I've had this camera since 2016. It's GREAT for zone focusing. Put in in Manual Focus and prefocus it at 1.5m or 2m, with aperture at F11 (on a sunny day), auto ISO... and that's it. No more focus worries and everything will be sharp. So much fun to use it like this on the street.
I LOVE my x70. It has to be one of my most used cameras. Beautiful sensor and glass in a small package. It’s still great and has probably kept me from buying a. X100 series camera because of its size and image quality. I use mine mainly for documenting family life so battery life isn’t too much of an issue for e but I can see how it would drain quickly if you gave it a real hammering. I take a spare battery and it’s never been a problem. Thanks for the video!
I do think the x70 hits that sweet spot perfectly, every day, family camera. The focal length of 18.5mm makes it so versatile and the battery life for me is okay as long as you stick to shooting (not tweaking menus). The x100 series are a different beast and the focal length is less of a sweet spot. And yeah it is over hyped.
I used to have one and I regret selling it but not because it is a great camera, but because Fujifilm don't make them anymore. I printed one personal photobook out of it. I recently bought a mint Olympus PEN-F ( €575 ) and Olympus 17mm f1.8 ( €200 ) and it totally replaced my thoughts of owning back the X70 as well as plan of buying a used X100V. Ricoh GR II/III is its competitor and now taken over that niche market. Still a nice camera, thanks for the video!
MFT cameras are great aren't they and still affordable on the used market. X100V I used to own as a successor to my x100 and it didn't agree with me. Love my smaller cameras, but the X100V/VI are not it. Like the x70 also because of the focal length. Ricoh GRIIIx is awesome but a lot pricier. Lumix GX80/GX85 with the pancakes (14mm/20mm) are awesome too.
This has been one of my favorite cameras! Unfortunately mine just died and can't be repaired :( Only had it for 10 months. But I love it so much I might be just finding a new one.
Sadly the camera is not an action camera when it comes to build quality. The used prices of this model are crazy at the moment. But if you, like me, search and scout carefully there is always a good deal to be had somewhere
The +1-2 in bright daylight in auto mode is because of your spot metering. Spot metering measures your whites as mid-tone grey & causes +2 overexposure. Set your exposure comp accordingly when shooting in similar environments & you'll be sweet.
@@PaulTakesPhotos Delving down into the 'photometry' settings on a Fuji may also help. You can swap between spot metering the entire frame OR just the subject. Depending on the vibe of your image it can be a handy setting to put on your speed menu or programmable buttons.
If only cam manufacturers would listen then Lumix wouldn't have released the S9, Fujifilm wouldn't have released the xm5. Oddly Sony RX series are actually fully packed, okay battery and sensor size not always good. Lumix LX100ii is also an excellent one
My battery last forever and I’ve had mine since 2016 . This camera is a great camera the price has gone up drastically cause it’s a cult classic now I got mine deep discounted back in the day cause ppl hated it when it came out .
My batteries are dying quickly sadly. The X70 type of camera is what a lot of people want nowadays. Back when it was release the sentiment was different
Got one of these as well this year! Love the convienece even if it has some obvious drawbacks. Probably will share my thoughts after some more use as well. Really enjoyed your photos!
It does have some drawbacks, but it wasnt released as a premium camera. Affordable point-and-shooter. Do post your take on it. Tag me and I'll happily watch :) happy you enjoyed the photos I took
I've got one and have used it fairly regularly over the past couple of years. Yes the battery life is dreadful. I always stick a couple of spare charged batteries in my bag ready to swap out. And to be honest, I often bring a charge pack and battery charger out with me too to make sure i always have one charged. Great light little camera though. Always stick a metal hood on it for lens protection when its dangled around my neck. If you update the firmware, and get the fujifilm camera remote, you can ping pics from your camera to your phone for viewing/editing.
With some of its pitfalls mostly the b-life it still begs a mark2. Better battery, same sensor, not more MPs and maybe an f/1.8 18mm lens and small evf build in.. So small, so easy to carry and use
Sold one, re-bought, and then lost. Wah. Will buy another I guess. Not seeing them for less the 700 in EU at the moment. You're right about the focus hunting. I must say, as an artistic-minded photographer like yourself, I found the X-70 to be really great. I Look at those pictures and say yeah, that's what I wanted. The siren song of Ricoh calls. Maybe the lost one will turn up, but I doubt it. Probably left on the table at a cafe.
Oh such heartbreak donating the x70 to the table. Ricoh GR series are great, especially the image quality. That said the xtrans III sensor is probably one of the best Fujifilm sensors in terms of colour science and also sharpness. I hope Fuji will realise that the x70m2 would be a camera with an even broader reach than the x100 series.
I have been looking for a copy for two years. My main criteria was price. I didnt want to pay more than €500. I found this copy on a local buy&,sell platform and I would suggest to avoid mpb.com to buy these types of cameras. Way to expensive in general. Be patient and you will find one for a decent price
Yes. I love the GRII (and the previous that was almost the same) and used it for a long time, but I ended replacing it with the X70 for the tilting screen and the awful blackout after each photo on the GR. Ths fuji doesn't have this blackout so shooting many shots quickly feels snappier.

It sure is currently trying to perfect my own zone focussing.

My favourite Fuji. It was my first and im never letting it go. I pretty much take it everywhere.
Well it has surprised me. I actually am considering selling my Ricoh GRIIIx...

Believe me i know them all too well just assumed the camera would default to auto. It doesn't hahah learned something today :)
It's insane how there's no compact camera with flash and flip screen today. It's a steal but I would love that camera
I have gr3

@@michaeldavies650 thank you very much
If you can find the leather half case it improves the grip nicely. Downside is it doesn't have a tripod mount.
Thanks for the tip!

Could use the x-m5 and the voigtlander 18mm f2.8 as a little expensive alternative.
Better get an xe-2 or 3, same lens, no AI disfuctional AF and no overheating :)
I've often though this was the perfect form/function factor from Fujifilm. A modern release of this would sell like hotcakes.
I would agree that Fujifilm should relaunch preferable and 18.5m (27mm) and a 27mm (40mm) xtrans II sensor, with a better battery :)
Correction: you said a previous owner put the front hand grip on. But actually it’s part of the camera when new!
Thanks for clarifying that one
Spend ages trying to remove it.... Not a smart thing to do

Hoi Paul. Cut a bit too soon at the end? But great tips thanks. Prob going for the xt30ii
Yeah maybe, but last 20 secs were kinda fluff, but thanks for the feedback appreciate note: better outro :)
My favourite camera with my XT1...... best sensor ...... just sold my 100V as images nowhere near as good in my opinion.
I used to own the x100 and upgraded x100v before the hype... Sold it quickly camera didn't agree with me
Correction : you said X Trans iii but it's actually ii
I stand corrected. I noticed when I already posted the episode

The X70 is Fuji’s answer to the Ricoh GRii.

Could indeed be, if Fuji just would release a x70ii add viewfinder traditional battery, same sensor and improved af I'd be happy :)

too bad, Fujifilm discontinued the x70 series
Yeah for some reason Fuji got caught up into the rat race of more mp's and artificial intelligence whilst offering reduced build quality
