It's about time Prof Tony does the heavy lifting for the class and let the TAs take a break. But now I raise the question. . When will that sexy furball Fluff get a break?
This game is one of my guilty treasures. Always checking to see if someone does a playthrough with commentary on it every once in a while. Thanks for doing so. Too bad this game wasn't longer.
It definitely is, but this was one of those ones that unless you owned it or put every waking second into it as a rental, you probably didn't make much progress before it was time to take it back.
@@VideoGames101 I do own it but I guess I never gave it too much of a chance back then. You're definitely right about that rental window, though. Some games definitely were not made that short of a timespan.
This was one of my favorite games growing up. I was such a big fan of Star Trek. I always had trouble getting by the bouncer you gave the credits to; I kept trying to combine the medicinal plant with the Saurian Brandy. Anyway, I would slip by him when he was drinking the brandy.
Have you noticed that in the store on Sigma Iotia (When you go back in time) inside the store where you shoot the thieves... there is a few very familiar consoles sitting on the shelves in the store there... Deliberate plug? Or just a little homage by the developers as an Easter egg? ;-)
At the end, not using the marked cards just means you lose the card game and have to go back to the room where you got the money and get more. You can keep doing that as often as it takes. The only way I know of to get a definitive game over is to lose the fight against the Romulan ship.
There actually is a way to soft lock the game in Iotia. When you enter the store that is being robbed, if you stun the robber on the left but let the one on the right get away, the shopkeeper still thanks you for stopping the robbers and gives you the marked cards, but that robber doesn't have the diamond, and since there is no resetting that scenario, even by beaming up and back down to the planet, there seems to be no way to get the diamond in that scenario, so it seems like starting over is all you can do if that happens. Hopefully you took down a password or are using save states!
Okay - I have played this game a LOT over the years and I never knew you could use the credits to get past the bouncer. I always mixed the Saurian Brandy with the Root to make a sedative to make the guy pass out. I then used the credits to buy the Scanner from "Crocodile Dundee" which showed the way into the Romulan base. I thought without the scanner you couldn't find or enter the base. Always something new to learn.
Yeah I like how they put multiple solutions to some of these puzzles in like that. Not something you saw in a lot of NES games, though admittedly there weren't too many which could fall under the "adventure" genre.
Rented this one back in the day and never got off the first planet. I like the fight music with the robots, nice touch. So, a question: Can you explore all the planets shown, or are you only allowed to go to those certain ones?
You can pretty much only go to the planets we visit, which is expected considering when the game came out but that would've been very cool were you able to visit more of the visible planets. Basically Spock tells you the planet is too dangerous to visit.
Interesting game, although given the release year, maybe it would have been more popular if they used the Next Generation characters. At that time, most fans of the original Star Trek series were probably in their 30s and 40s and probably not NES gamers.
That's a great point, actually. If they did want it to be more relevant they should have focused it on a property which was fresh and on air at the time.
Dat walking animation... 44:59 - Of course there's a hot green-skinned woman. At least Spock kept Kirk on mission. 47:38 - Classic ADD. 1:08:03 - Spock is into locksport. Who knew?
I remember from my childhood there was something about the orange thing on the console between Sulu and Chekov that was flashing orange during a fight but I can't remember anything more specific than that and I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet...

May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bless your walkthrough channel.
Ha thank you so much BBJ!
In TOS holding the handle in the turbo lift activated the computer. Then you had to keep holding onto it for it to move.
Ah so that's authentic there, I figured. Thank you!

Glad to see you've got some love for this underrated title, as well.
I tried playing this game on the NES and i had no clue what i was doing. Cant wait to watch this!
Ha I know, my first time I never got off the first planet. Thanks Matt!
@VideoGames101 you're welcome. Still enjoying your vids. 👍👍
I never made it very far in this one years ago. Definitely an interesting and nicely put together game overall.

Ha nice, yeah it's kind of ahead of its time in there being a couple few stretches where there are multiple solutions.
lol that transporter guy, I wonder if the Federation has random drug testing.
Haha I never considered that angle but yeah, I can see it.

Ha I didn't notice that before; I love that little nod.

Good call, yeah I kind of appreciate that it's (almost as you said) impossible to actually lose this one.

It's not Star Trek unless you find 20th century humans everywhere in uncharted space.
Haha very true.

The interplay point and clicks on PC were incredibly successful and did so well they did cd rom

Anyone else reading these cutscenes in the actor’s voices?
Haha I will from now on.

Yeah I don't know beyond a "Red Alert" type situation.
PARA MI LA SERIE DE 1966 LA MEJOR PARA UN VIDEO GAME 😊
