Since you are living in West London, I suggest you check out these areas: Chelsea/Battersea, Chiswick, Richmond/Kew and Kingston/Teddington. You'll find art and craft shops there, along with gorgeous parks, river and canal walks and delightful delis and bakeries! Or for North London places - you may also want to check out Queens Park, West Hampstead/Hampstead Heath, Highgate, Belgravia, Muswell Hill.
I’ve just found your videos and you’re such a pleasure to watch - love your quiet sense of humor! The Cotswold video was so gorgeous that I was eager to see more and you’re doing a great job filming the parks, shops, tube trains….. Fabulous! Hello 😊I’ve just found your channel - and just want to say “Welcome to England” * waving flags 🏴🇬🇧*. I hope you are happy here and getting used to our funny, odd and weird ways 🤓 I too enjoy “crafting”, I like to knit, cross stitch and making things from “kits” etc. I am going to teach myself to crochet soon as I was bought a kit to crochet a sloth two Christmases ago! 😳 (I love them….). I love going to Hobbycraft! - could easily spend half a day in there just mooching about! I’m not sure where you are living but the John Lewis department stores often have a decent range of craft bits n bobs - especially around Christmas time - to craft all kinds of decos etc. I love your little doggy ☺️ - does he now bark with an English accent?! I can’t believe it’s been half a year already! Are you planning to stay out there? A lot of what you said about England sounds like Milwaukee. We have a lot of parks, older architecture, and busses. And that thing where in the winter the sun sets so early and then summer hits and it’s still bright out after nine. I guess it makes sense why so many Europeans settled here. I hope you continue to adjust and find new things to love out there!
I found your channel a little while ago and Binged everything in like a day. I'm so chuffed to see this video in my feed! If I can be selfish, I'd wish for TH-cam to be your source of income so we get to get more videos 😃 Anyway, thank you for brightening our days by sharing yours.
It is so lovely to see another video! I'm so relieved that everything has been going much better. The beginning is always rough for anything. Glad you're starting to enjoy your time there. ☺️ Here in the US we literally didn't leave our apt for a month because it was 100 °F and heat advisory every single day. Jealous of the long sleeves for sure 😅
I just came here from your flat hunting video and my vicarious stress level was high, but this is a nice antidote. Glad you’ve settled now and seem to be enjoying your new life. I live in Suffolk, but lived and/or worked in Camden for eight years. Gotta say I don’t miss it, but London’s a great base if you’re young and can afford it. Also, you could totally take your dog on the Eurostar! Get that pup a passport :)
Hello and welcome to the UK! 😊 a bit late to this video, but if you like sprawling grounds and castles, I would also like to add to your recommendations Blenheim Palace in Woodstock close to Oxford. I also immigrated a while back to London and found myself in a similar situation as yourself, especially with the stress of finding a place to live and adjusting to the culture and life here... But I'm glad to hear you're getting to know a routine which suits you. Also, I live in South London which is a completely different vibe to where you live!
So happy life has gotten easier over there since the move!! It's been a lot of fun seeing England through your lens on here and instagram, thank you for sharing!! 🧡
I just found your channel- I loved this! Your commentary was interesting and insightful. Especially loved the footage of Bath. Plus, Odie is ADORABLE ❤!
For sweet tea you could try Iced Tea I don’t know if it’s the same as I’ve never had sweet tea in the USA . It comes in the usual 500ml bottles or 1.25 litres and is available in lots of places. Starbucks and Costa do it in the summer unfortunately not in the buckets.
You mentioned the difficulty of flying to mainland Europe with your dog, and eurostar. Have you considered catching a ferry to another country from here? We recently nipped over to Dieppe from Newhaven for a couple of days and it was lovely, Dieppe is an interesting town. Other countries are available: Santander in Spain from Southampton, Holland from Harwich, the ferries are cheap and fun in themselves.
If you hire a camper van you can take your dog with you on the vehicle transporting train to France. Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany are easily reached from France. Also inquire about dogs on the ferry from Plymouth to Santander in Spain which you can get to northern Portugal, Southern France and Andorra using the camper.
Not sure where you are, but if you are west of the city then you are close to probably the best 'palace' experience in the UK which is Hampton Court. Check ahead, there are some days of the week when the kitchen is open, it has period correct musicians - not only period correct, but put in the context of the areas of the palace, so near the royal chambers you get very 'classical' styles of music, in the knights hall etc. you might get more medieval yacht rock type music, and down in the kitchens some pretty raucous music - the medieval equivalent of walking past a building site and hearing 'classic rock' blaring. If you happen to have watched the recent tv series Wolf Hall, then there is a connection, the Palace was owned by Cardinal Wolsey and he gave it to Henry Vlll to try and stay on the right side of him. Henry built huge extensions to the palace - it was one of his favourite places. A number of historic events happened there, Anne Boleyn had her own apartments there, Jane Seymour died there. Certain events were well chronicled, some like the birth of Edward Vl also had music written for them, these are sometimes re-enacted - complete with music and outfits. There is another palace not too far from Hampton court, and one that’s a bit creepy, much smaller but within the grounds of Kew Gardens is where 'Mad King George' was kept. Kew gardens are amazing. They are hundreds of years old and still the most important gardens in the world. When other places around the world are having problems or need knowledge or experience, they call Kew. There was a series called 'A year at Kew' that you might find in iplayer or somewhere, it’s a truly incredible place, it has an incredible history and is still the most advanced and involved institution in botanical science.
For castles - recommend Warwick Castle, very well preserved but also a bit “Disney-ish” as they have lots of stuff going on - but still worth it! Also, Windsor Castle…amazing and an hour on the train from London.
A great trip to take is the Warwick castle when I was there it was fun... and going to Cadbury where they make the chocolates that is another great place....and dont forget to go to Stonehenge sometime....I do believe in England there are alot of yarnshops and needlework..glad to see you are doing better I miss England...hope some time I can go back...
Thank you for your gentle and thoughtful reply. I'm sorry I'm so stupid. My sister Olivia and her husband worked as medical consultants for two years in St Paul, Minnesota, my father-in-law came from Long Island and joined the British Army aged 18 in 1940, his father joined the ,French Artillery in WW1. When I wasn't at war somewhere, I spent the last 15 years of my career in Russia, Ukraine Georgia, Moldova and all over Central and Eastern Europe. When I was young (19) I led an expedition the length of Central America, and with the Army visited Argentina, Peru. There is so much to learn. Everywhere. Thanks again.
You still have to learn when to use a bus, when to use the tube or walk. Tube stations look close together geographically on the map, but the actual line twists and turns whereas walking or using a bus is mre straight forward and just quicker, not to mention cheaper.
We live in Brooklyn New York and we travel with our dog a Moorkie. To get to London we took a ferry from France into London. She was with us on the ferry. We got her status as emotional support
Oh! For other idea's, checkout Daydreamer's Barn with Jess, Chris and their two kids. Chris is in the USAF at RAF Lakenheath and doing a 3 year tour here. They live off base and travel around the area visiting farms, antique places and various sights. They both drive so you'll see that driving here isn't so scary as you think. Enjoy xx
for castles I would suggest warwick castle. Also worth going to see a couple of industrial heritage sites - Black country museum and the Iron bridge gorge in Telford where there about a dozen museums - blist hill is excellent
Check out Chilham used to run Jousting events and a medieval night with full on serving wenches its great. Chilham does have a railway station you go to canterbury change there for Ashford it half way between the 2 towns. There maybe even Bus tours that encompass the whole day.
You can travel as foot passengers with a dog on the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland. There is a train station outside the ferry terminal, you can travel into Rotterdam or Amsterdam and from there all over Europe. If you get the overnight ferry, they let you keep dog with you in your cabin.
I don't go anywhere either without Wally. He is almost 12 and I want to spend every available moment when I'm not working with him! I need help as well.....lol!
The Hungarian Museum at the royal college of surgeons (if you have a strong stomach) is absolutely fascinating and extremely popular with artists, I thoroughly recommend a visit with your sketchbook. You need to check opening hours carefully. It’s a science museum about anatomy but when it was redeveloped the designers were insanely creative and made it beautiful. Please visit. Museums keep statistical data on their visitor numbers and theirs is heavily weighted towards artists, obviously as well as those who are interested in anatomy. But it’s disproportionate when compared to other museums enough that it’s famous internally in the museum sector for that art bias feature.
Just heard you explain your difficulties re accessing Libby audio books. I think you should be able to use Libby if you register with your local library and ask them to link you up with the Libby site, that is if they use Libby. Some libraries use another free audio site but I can’t recall its name, but I assume offers a similar service. Ask at your nearest library to help you with this.
Oh I did. But your Libby library is linked to the collection of your public library. So you only have access to the books that your library provides. Unfortunately our new library doesn’t have a great audio book selection. 🥲
@ interesting! I can access the entire Libby library 13000 plus via my registration to my local library. Not to have the full service seems pointless. I can only guess you’ve been misinformed..if so maybe checking with other nearby libraries will get you the right advice. Good luck…
Hi many years ago I needed a job (baby 6months old and needed money), ended up working in retail mw but in Boots Store, so staff discount more than made up for mw. I can relate to your problems.
What you might find better for you, is to perhaps live in a village or small town outside of London. It’s only because you may find more of a sense of community than in London. I am in rural Essex, but I can drive to central London in an hour and half. If I get a train it’s 45 mins to London or about the same on the tube, depending on where I want to go. I think you are doing so well coping in a new country xx
18:41 man! You're in the UK where you speak the same language, here in France you have the added "benefit" of needing to know French even if the job is in English, lol, and jobs here tend to prefer someone at the very least B2 level, but usually higher (Emily in Paris would never happen, lol). So many English speaker here that are desperate for work have to resort to lower paid jobs like tutoring or nannying, even if they have a bachelor's and are in their 30s, until they can build up their network and language level, or they try to become a content creator and try to monetize it. If you go through a temp agency, they ALWAYS send you to French classes first, no matter your level, because if you don't "sound" French enough, they won't think anyone will hire you. I'm honestly too scared to go back to looking for work here.
There are a few libraries in the us that offer digital access cards to non residents, maybe free maybe for a fee I heard some free, but can’t confirm. Hope you can find something!
What kind of job are you looking for? One suggestion that I heard from another expat is to have a native professional CV writer compose your CV due to their understanding of what works. As someone who prides myself on my CV writing skills this makes a lot of sense to me.
Our old library revoked our cards, so I can’t even access their book selection on Libby anymore. 😭 I need to do some research to see if any other libraries will do digital memberships or something 🤷🏻♀️
I think you need to travel north or at least get out of the City and find the public footpaths around the countryside. Buy some OS maps and find the outdoors more. If you want game of thrones esk things I can strongly recommend Youk or Durham for a weekend away.
I don’t know which supermarkets you’re going to but I don’t recognise your comments about choice. My local supermarket has huge ranges of different foods. I’ve spent a lot of time in Trader Joe’s in LA and while it was huge, it much was pretty average.
Trader Joe’s (while I love) is more of a specialty grocery store in the US. Their products are rebranded with their own private labels so you can’t tell what company supplies them. More curated than other stores.
I don’t know which supermarkets you’re going to but I don’t recognise your comments about choice. My local supermarket has huge ranges of different foods.
The US is a sh!t show basically when it comes to public transportation and comfortable usable, outdoor areas for humans to congregate and get into nature. We are definitely car centric. Towns have cars speeding through main street areas where people should be walking and enjoying eating alfresco. We absolutely suck! I would live in Britain in a heartbeat, if I could. I have traveled to europe and absolutely love all of those things that make it comfortable and beautiful. Not to mention all of the beautiful architecture that we lack so seriously here in america. Everything slapped up with no taste, no beauty. Just a big effing sh!t show!😢
Would 400 types of cereals be better than 50? Why leave Murica? It's the best country on the planet. Apparently. Sweet tea is evidently a Southern delicacy. It's not really done in Blighty. Public transport is great in London. It's pretty dire elsewhere. London is humongous. It takes 2 hours to cross with any type of transport (er, except walking, which is way longer). Medievel castles from London? Try Leeds Castle (in Kent, not Yorkshire). I understand Odi is from Garfield, but you know, it's Latin for 'I hate'. Quite a joke really. Odi hates garfield.... Or Garfield hates Odi...
I think young people who move to Britain to live, should research the social history, post WW2.The visual & mental trauma of deprivation & rationing in the 50s is still working its way out of the Britons psyche. There was no largesse of choice in food & comfort. That mental austerity is still alive in the aging 50s generation & has influenced all aspects of Britain's post war development. - Just going to put another 'two Bob' in the meter - my moden has gone off. Bye yall!
I was a bit disappointed when you said Europeans didn't begin to understand the run up to the Superbowl, "God Bless America", thanks to our Armed Forces etc. To a Brit, that is vaguely repugnant. So confident are we that all men are equal in the sight of the Almighty (whoever), that we are much more comfortable talking to Russians, Chinese and those from our old Colonies than telling everyone how good we are, or how strong our servicemen and women are, and how everyone else should be afraid of us. Everyone being equal means only one thing to an Englishman, nobody can be better than him. Even Americans : think on it.
Re American's applying for jobs in the UK, I saw somebody recommend getting ChatGPT to re-write their CV in a more 'British' way. They were in a similar situation to you, they tried it and worked straight away. Worth a try?

If you want a dog friendly holiday try the Isle of Wight, it is super dog friendly, and a great place to visit.
Or Keswick in the Lake District, it’s full of dog friendly hotels, restaurants and pubs and it’s lovely.

Thanks so much ❤️ I do envision us moving further out if we stay here long term
I can recommend the John Soanne's Museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields (it's free but check which day it's open)
We went! It was lovely
@@briisokayHow about Dennis Seaver's House?
Glad you aren't letting anyone yuck your yum on the foxes - as far as I'm concerned they're loud mangy little angel creatures
they are! mangy little street gang bbs ❤️
The foxes in the country re much better no mangy critters
There are a few libraries in the us that offer digital access cards to non residents, maybe free maybe for a fee I heard some free, but can’t confirm. Hope you can find something!
I need to research further. I know you can pay a yearly fee to access the NY library. It stinks that library stock varies so much!
"briefcase of Oreos..." Ha ha ha!
Try the BBC for books/podcasts
Hi have you tried borrow box for your audio books.
You will need to join your local library for access it's all free.
The way your voice quivered at 17:29 suggests that maybe it isn’t fine? Lol
What kind of job are you looking for? One suggestion that I heard from another expat is to have a native professional CV writer compose your CV due to their understanding of what works. As someone who prides myself on my CV writing skills this makes a lot of sense to me.
Great video 👍 If you want to network and meet more people try joining the Women's institute and local craft groups and get
to share your cv😊
Still quicker then driving by car which is hellish in London
Take a trip to the Lake District you won’t be disappointed
That’s on my list! It looks beautiful
I can use libby in Denmark through my library. Have you checked if you could do the same in the uk? ❤
Our old library revoked our cards, so I can’t even access their book selection on Libby anymore. 😭 I need to do some research to see if any other libraries will do digital memberships or something 🤷🏻♀️
@@briisokay im thinking of your uk library.
Don't forget Wales and Scotland
Follow up….where is Tayto?

Or Garfield hates Odi...
do you know about borrow box?
Son your such a Muppet
I was making fun of Americans and our silly overconsumption
Re American's applying for jobs in the UK, I saw somebody recommend getting ChatGPT to re-write their CV in a more 'British' way. They were in a similar situation to you, they tried it and worked straight away. Worth a try?
