Well done Laura for trying the real ale! It is a 'cask beer' which is like a fresh beer, recently fermented and has to be used quickly. Never heard it described as 'yoghurty' though!
But she did say when entering the second pub that she was going to have some lagers, which is what he was drinking! Then she had a Guinness! And yes, a UK pint is a proper 20 oz not a wussy 16oz US one! (In some US taverns we have been in, they call it a 'pounder' ! )

You mentioned being surprised that Buckingham Palace is in the middle of of the City. The royal family owns several homes and Buckingham Palace is known to be their least favourite. The late Queen actually died whilst at her beloved Balmoral which is a castle set in 50,000 acres of Scottish countryside. The Queen had to be persuaded by Winston Churchill to move to Buckingham Palace when her father died and Charles was similarly reluctant. It is, however, an expectation of the British public that their monarch spends the majority of their time in their capital. In fact, one of the reasons King George VI (Elizabeth’s father) was so popular was because he and has family remained at Buckingham Palace during the Blitz (ie when the Germans were targeting London with bombing during the War).
Buckingham Palace is more of an office than a residence. They spend more time at Windsor. Don’t know where you got the expectation bit, the expectation is that they try to visit out of London as much as they can.
Hiya ,glad you're enjoying London, the King wasn't in Buckingham Palace ,if the flag you saw (Union Jack ) is flying means he's not there, the flag known as the Royal Standard is flown if he is in residence, enjoy the rest of your stay ,have a good time ❤❤.

Maybe things are a bit better now with comfier seating, but flying back from the States to the UK always exhausted me, especially from the West Coast and Florida. So much so, that after the lagged zombie trek home from the airport first thing in the morning, I'd always go straight to bed when I got home, for however long I wanted. Apparently it takes a day for each time zone crossed to fully recover from international air travel. It never felt so bad going west though.
