6 months living in London update (+ a little trip to Bath 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿)
Hi friends - it's been a few months since I posted a life update + we recently passed 6 months since moving to London. (TLDW - I'm doing better!) So I wanted to sit down and chat and answer some of ya'll's questions. I also included some footage from a little trip we took to Bath, England last month.
Thanks for watching!

Hello weary traveler. Thanks for stopping by.
My name is Bri. I’m the artist and keeper behind this channel.🐛
I make arts & crafts related videos with my dog Odin (bb Odie) by my side.
My work is inspired by whimsy, fantasy, and nature. I started this channel during the pandemic to share my hobby and connect with other makers. Since then my partner and I moved from the US to the UK, where I started making vlogs about art, travel, and life in my 30s.
Have a seat, stay a while.

Haha. Most of the world uses symbols for things because they are more universal. The US is the weird one where they write everything in English, like even road signs, which to someone who doesn't speak a language with romanised letters wouldn't even be able to make out words well... Like us looking at Chinese.

Sorry you got ripped off by the lettings agent and sorry for the mean comments from horrible men. You will look back and laugh at yourself for staying in Canary Wharf and shopping at Waitrose when you first arrived :) I hope your apartment is beginning to feel like home and that life in London is treating you well :) Your dog is gorgeous! :)

I think young people who move to Britain to live, should research the social history, post WW2.The visual & mental trauma of deprivation & rationing in the 50s is still working its way out of the Britons psyche. There was no largesse of choice in food & comfort. That mental austerity is still alive in the aging 50s generation & has influenced all aspects of Britain's post war development. - Just going to put another 'two Bob' in the meter - my moden has gone off. Bye yall!

I felt really sorry for you fighting your way through the London rental market. It is often crazy, and high interest rates and the Government's years-long crackdown on landlords is only making things worse, because so many LLs are selling up and leaving the market - they are making no money and are terrified of having a dodgy tenant, because it is becoming so hard to evict people. Initially you were not helping yourself at all by trying to search the whole of London. The city is a network of villages linked by public transport hubs, so your location should first be driven by where you earn your income and by the most cost/time efficient means of transport to get there, followed by obvious issues like size of flat, aesthetics etc. If your partner is working in Canary Wharf and you can't afford to live locally, you should look East, and look west along the lovely new Elizabeth Line to leafy outer London, Burnham, Maidenhead, even Reading, all vastly cheaper. Looking in Tube Zone 1 is just crazy (sorry) if you are on any kind of budget. That letting agent has ripped you off and you should threaten to sue them through the Small Claims Court. Look for advice online and at Citizens Advice in person. If you paid the deposit using a debit or credit card you should also be able to get help from Visa or Mastercard to recover the money. "Holding deposits" and other such rubbish unethical practices are illegal in the UK!

18:41 man! You're in the UK where you speak the same language, here in France you have the added "benefit" of needing to know French even if the job is in English, lol, and jobs here tend to prefer someone at the very least B2 level, but usually higher (Emily in Paris would never happen, lol). So many English speaker here that are desperate for work have to resort to lower paid jobs like tutoring or nannying, even if they have a bachelor's and are in their 30s, until they can build up their network and language level, or they try to become a content creator and try to monetize it. If you go through a temp agency, they ALWAYS send you to French classes first, no matter your level, because if you don't "sound" French enough, they won't think anyone will hire you. I'm honestly too scared to go back to looking for work here.

Wow i didn't realise it was so competitive with jobs and houses there. I lived in London 2004-2009 then returned to Australia and loved working the book store at Tate Modern. I think you should look into bookstore jobs like Waterstones or even Art supply stores, you meet some cool ppl with similar interests that way. Even some bakery/cafe jobs you get to meet community and make good coffee.

Oh! For other idea's, checkout Daydreamer's Barn with Jess, Chris and their two kids. Chris is in the USAF at RAF Lakenheath and doing a 3 year tour here. They live off base and travel around the area visiting farms, antique places and various sights. They both drive so you'll see that driving here isn't so scary as you think. Enjoy xx

For sweet tea you could try Iced Tea I don’t know if it’s the same as I’ve never had sweet tea in the USA . It comes in the usual 500ml bottles or 1.25 litres and is available in lots of places. Starbucks and Costa do it in the summer unfortunately not in the buckets.

It is so lovely to see another video! I'm so relieved that everything has been going much better. The beginning is always rough for anything. Glad you're starting to enjoy your time there. ☺️ Here in the US we literally didn't leave our apt for a month because it was 100 °F and heat advisory every single day. Jealous of the long sleeves for sure 😅

You need to take a look at Kew Gardens. It's our national world seed bank, lots of greenhouses which are very old and beautiful. Go there sometime in every season, especially at Christmas. Another place to visit is The Eden Project.

You still have to learn when to use a bus, when to use the tube or walk. Tube stations look close together geographically on the map, but the actual line twists and turns whereas walking or using a bus is mre straight forward and just quicker, not to mention cheaper.

Sainsbury's is pretty good. Use the large stores if you want housewares, the smaller ones like Tesco Local only sell groceries and are for those people who have forgotten something on their weekly/monthly shops. Brits usually shop for the week/month. There is also The Co Op, Aldi, Lidl, you know about Waitrose the most expensive of all, they're the food arm of John Lewis department stores, Tesco, Asda which is part of Walmart or was part of Walmart, Marks and Spencer (M&S) for clothing and food. Most of our stores are mixed as in they sell food, clothing and housewares under the same roof. Something not done in The States. The equivalent to Home Depot here is called B&Q, there is also Wickes. how you getting on with our electrical system in houses? Found somewhere to dry your hair? 🙂 We use ring mains in this country and the voltage is 240 volts. Evrything is fused. Bulbs we use two types a bayonet fitting and screw caps. British Heart Foundation collect 2nd hand furniture and stuff only in their larger shops though. There are things here called 'Car Boot Sales' something akin to a very large yard sale except from car boots, vans and trucks at larger venues. Some will have public transport running close by but youwill need avehicle to obviously transport anything you buy unless you negotiate.

You.ve probably already been informedon this or at least Googled the subject. Have a look at a place called Hobbycraft. It covers pratically everything arty. At least until you find maybe a more dedicated art supply shop for your particular interests.

Hello 😊I’ve just found your channel - and just want to say “Welcome to England” * waving flags 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧*. I hope you are happy here and getting used to our funny, odd and weird ways 🤓 I too enjoy “crafting”, I like to knit, cross stitch and making things from “kits” etc. I am going to teach myself to crochet soon as I was bought a kit to crochet a sloth two Christmases ago! 😳 (I love them….). I also have a Cricut cutting machine to make cards etc and I’ve also bought all the necessary “vinyl” that will make pictures that can be put on clothing like tee shirts etc - I just don’t have a heat press at moment and I do not trust myself to do it properly with a hot iron! I love going to Hobbycraft! - could easily spend half a day in there just mooching about! I’m not sure where you are living but the John Lewis department stores often have a decent range of craft bits n bobs - especially around Christmas time - to craft all kinds of decos etc. I love your little doggy ☺️ - does he now bark with an English accent?! Stay well and happy crafting! Xx ❤😊 0:16 0:16

Would 400 types of cereals be better than 50? Why leave Murica? It's the best country on the planet. Apparently. Sweet tea is evidently a Southern delicacy. It's not really done in Blighty. Public transport is great in London. It's pretty dire elsewhere. London is humongous. It takes 2 hours to cross with any type of transport (er, except walking, which is way longer). Medievel castles from London? Try Leeds Castle (in Kent, not Yorkshire). I understand Odi is from Garfield, but you know, it's Latin for 'I hate'. Quite a joke really. Odi hates garfield.... Or Garfield hates Odi...
