  • Hi friends - we’re freshly moved into our new flat in the city. I’ve been documenting little moments over the past month to share ~ ie settling into a new routine, exploring London, looking for a job, and getting back to creative hobbies (also spiraling into self doubt, I’m working on it)
    Thanks for watching!

    Hello weary traveler. Thanks for stopping by.
    My name is Bri. I’m the artist and keeper behind this channel.🐛
    I make arts & crafts related videos with my dog Odin (bb Odie) by my side.
    My work is inspired by whimsy, fantasy, and nature. I started this channel during the pandemic to share my hobby and connect with other makers. Since then my partner and I moved from the US to the UK, where I started making vlogs about art, travel, and life in my 30s.
    Have a seat, stay a while.

    Hope you get a great therapist! It can be hit or miss. I tried quite a few before finding the person who really helped propel me forward. Well done finding your way back to making. Love the beret!

    Just a headup on some London Parks. Some have herds of Fallow deer roaming in them so just be aware with Odie.They can be aggressive during the rutt.

    Sainsbury's is pretty good. Use the large stores if you want housewares, the smaller ones like Tesco Local only sell groceries and are for those people who have forgotten something on their weekly/monthly shops. Brits usually shop for the week/month. There is also The Co Op, Aldi, Lidl, you know about Waitrose the most expensive of all, they're the food arm of John Lewis department stores, Tesco, Asda which is part of Walmart or was part of Walmart, Marks and Spencer (M&S) for clothing and food. Most of our stores are mixed as in they sell food, clothing and housewares under the same roof. Something not done in The States.
    The equivalent to Home Depot here is called B&Q, there is also Wickes.
    how you getting on with our electrical system in houses? Found somewhere to dry your hair? 🙂 We use ring mains in this country and the voltage is 240 volts. Evrything is fused.
    Bulbs we use two types a bayonet fitting and screw caps.
    British Heart Foundation collect 2nd hand furniture and stuff only in their larger shops though. There are things here called 'Car Boot Sales' something akin to a very large yard sale except from car boots, vans and trucks at larger venues. Some will have public transport running close by but youwill need avehicle to obviously transport anything you buy unless you negotiate.

    I feel for you in your job search, Bri! It's brutal for creatives. I work as an admin assistant and want so badly to transition to a more creative career in something like editorial design or general graphic design, but your girl is over here with no connections 😂
    I was glad to see that you were feeling a bit better at the end. I have gone to therapy a couple of times in my life and I will say that if nothing else, having someone who can look at your life situation with no personal stake or connection to you outside of that session is oddly helpful. They have a more practical view of your experiences and can suggest different ways of thinking about it that you may not realize on your own because of your own emotional investment. I was very skeptical when I started my sessions too, but I don't know, my therapist is someone who is very kind, but also was not there to bullshit me and just coddle me and make me feel better, you know? I haven't done group therapy before but I hope it helps! If not, you could always try a private session too.

      It certainly seems like you need a connection to get ANY job these days. It makes me 😫🤢. I’m so glad therapy has helped you. I was hoping to find something similar to that - a practical third party perspective to reign me back in. Such a daunting task though to find someone you actually like

    I don't know about London, but British Heart Foundation charity shops normally do a lot of furniture etc. if you find a bigger store.
    Also, TV licensing is the bane of every Brit, it's such an old and antiquated idea. Worth having a quick read up on the rules on that one and then your rights should they turn nasty (you have lots of rights and they have very little).

    • @briisokay
      @briisokay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe that’s it, I need to find bigger stores? I keep striking out with small shops nearby. We read up on the tv license and I think we’re good since we don’t stream any live tv. But confusing none the less 😅

    • @Thetasigmaalpha
      @Thetasigmaalpha 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The BBC licence fee pays for quite a lot BBC Radio The tv stations the BBC news channels. Several festivals the Proms without adds.All for 157.90 a year. Many people moan at this and are willing to pay far more for satellite/ streaming services they interact with far less. People’s habits have changed but the beeb still tries to fill their needs.

    You spoke to a stranger in London?! wow how very cosmopolitan of you (joking (kind of lol))....... Londoners do have a bad reputation throughout the rest of the UK for being standoffish, walking with heads down and avoiding eye contact as much as possible, don't worry if you ever travel up to the North (oop narth as the locals say) you'll meet much friendlier folks...
    The standard greeting you may hear is "Alright or Alreet", this isn't actually a question as to how you are, just a basic greeting meaning hello (I don't expect you to hear it much in London though) and no answer other than heya/hiya or alright is expected in return.
    Don't worry about the trolls on your channel, some people will be "d@$%'s" just because they have nothing better to do, just live by the English adage "Keep calm and carry on".
    You only need to have a TV license if you watch any BBC channel or BBC show recorded live, and any TV shows or Live events as they are happening, if you are watching cable TV, You Tube video's things like that you don't need a TV licence, as an Example if you watched the Superbowl live as it was happening you would need a TV license, however if you watched a You Tube video of the Superbowl an hour after it had finished theres no need for a license.
    Therapists are a difficult question to answer, generally all your health issues primarily go through your General Practitioner (GP), the GP will listen to your issue and then if needed will refer you to a specialist that can help you with that issue (this is where the wait times that everyone complains about come into effect) for non emergency referrals you could be waiting weeks but more likely months before getting seen by anyone, and if it's for mental health you may be better off trying to find a local support group or consider paying out of pocket for private therapy sessions.
    I hope everything goes well on the job hunting front, and if you do have difficulty finding work, but need to do something that will get you out of the house and socialising with human's (i don't know why you would want to though lol), then you could consider volunteering with a local "charity" (Thrift Store?) shop, they often need volunteers and it would look good on your resume (Curriculum Vitae (CV) as we say in the UK) for any prospective employer in the future.
