  • Got a few things to do around the shop, but if that all goes well it's time to introduce you to a new member of the fleet. I have been after this 1976 Mustang II for years. Now that the paperwork is square it's time to see if it will run and drive. This may be the ugliest and least popular Ford Mustang in existence, but I kinda like it...

When I have a tire that has stiff side walls I usually keep a little starting fluid which is either and it spayed into the rire opening and a barbique lighter pop it's seated if you do not have starting fluid you can use allitle bit of acetylene and then light the torch wave it at the bead and pop its seated works great on bus tires and pay loader tires.

1975 Mustang II was my very first car, red, 4cyl and a automatic. I went through a couple of motors and transmission rebuild before it got retired to the field. My daughter saw it recenlty and decided she wants it, it's really too bad its been neglected for so long, it's mostly a big pile of rust now.

My first Mustang II was a 74 hatchback with the 2.3 and 4spd. It was a fun little car and i beat the snot out of that one...literally. My 2nd one was a 77 Ghia with a 302 and automatic. The wife torched the engine on that one. Not a lot of new body parts available for these cars but they are fun little get around rides and yes they are just a rebodied Pinto...but fun. Now Pintos...I've had a number of those and a couple were V8 drag cars. Hope to see that one resurrected soon!

The Mustang II is the Rodney Dangerfield of mustangs. It gets absolutely no respect. But it’s actually a cool good looking little car. It’s compact, looks like a mustang, had a lot of new stuff on it when it came out and was not a bad car overall. And they built a zillion of them in all kinds of flavors.
It’s about time they get the recognition they deserve before they are all gone. Not to many are left because they were never sought after. So they were just trashed and thrown away.

Sorry rant over, Love your content Dave I'm sad that DED got canceled but I'm glad to have you on TH-cam!

You say its not much of a mustang, but you pop in a performance 302 and a built c4 and a few performance upgrades, uou have a fun little car that will scoot. I had got one just like this in 1988 except it was emerald green with a white interior. I drove it stock for a few years before i hopped it up. In addition to the engine and trans, i did a five bolt coversion on the hubs and axles, put a narrowed ford 9 inch in (factory axle WILL break, i kniw from experience) rear lift kit and ladder bars (kept breaking leaf springs from the torque)

Think of them as heavy Pintos. I've avoided V8 swaps in mine, because the engine is in front of the front spindles, but a Lima 2.3 turbo would be right at home (I've built 3 of those).
