Thanks for this. I conveniently have a 17mm Allen key to remove the filler and drain plug. I have fulfilled with 80w90 gl4 oil and the gearbox took 2 litres. Unfortunately the owners manual does not give the above info which I fpuld put from research AND much reading.
Hi There. There are various brands, but just ensure its EP 90 Gear oil... With regard to the intervals, the vw mk1 manuals says never to change gear oil, unless you topping up. Many Fellow Golfers will disagree with this, and say every 50 000 .kms.,.. But if you hearing strange noises, grinding, difficulty selecting gears, have it checked out. You may be low on Gear oil. Not sure If I understand your question.... But same principle Applies here when loosening a nut,.. Anti clockwise is loosening, and clockwise for tightening
Hi there. There is always leak stain coming from my gearbox wherever I stop. Also when I engage the fifth gear it is always a noise but in other gear the noise is not there. Can you please advise what I could possibly do?

What oil can I use
I was filling up my golf 1 on that sport.but it was just flowing out underneath what could be the problem??

You will wet your Flywheel and Possibly develop a Slip
But how do you unscrew filler Nutt forward to the direction of the car as it drives or reverse towards the car reversing

Hi .you have a leak then...It is common to leak at the gearbox seal .it' sits between gearbox and engine...have to take gearbox out to fix it ..
Also when I don't accelerate in the firth gear, it stops.
How many litres does the gearbox take?
Approx. 1.8 to 2 liters
