    Over heating can also be caused by not enough water/coolent in the system.
    Best way for filling up (what works for me) is to have the interior fan running on full and having the heat set up high as it helps getting coolent in the entire system.. Air-conditioned I believe is different entirely.
    Thank you for vid, it has helped me out with the different names for the sensors.
    Now just the coolent sensor...

    This is true, replaced thermostat 80 degree. And then replaced radiator fan, and also sensor. Saw that my fan did not go on. So I checked the radiator sensor it was a 95-90. So my radiator started pushing water out, as the fan did not switch on, looked on the old radiator sensor it was a 88-74 degree. Put back the old one as I knew it was not faulty. Put water in it, bleed it and after it reached I think it was about 84 degrees boom on went the radiator fan. Please guys listen to this good advice and save yourself a lot of headaches. You know your car. If it does not seem normal it is not normal.

    Hi bru i had experienced something weird last night my fan stopped working so i replaced it with a lukas thermostat 2pin and i checked wiring for relay and fuses are good getting power to the fan switch and fan but not kicking in automatically normally it should

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi .when you say not kicking in normally. Do u mean its not coming on at all,or coming on too late ..if it coming on too late make sure you have the right thermoswitch which should kick in around 92 degrees Celsius.. There should be that number stamped on the switch

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You either have an air lock in cooling system.. Or begin signs of a blown head gasket... Or you may have a water leak on the external parts of engine., like hoses, water pump...Welsh plug. You will have to hunt for it..

    Some mechanic's say that you must take out the thermostat and run the Golf1 with out it. Especially if you do lots of stuck in traffic stuff. As long as your fan kicks in at the right temperature. Manual choke cars they say you don't need a thermostat. Only on Electronic Choke cars this is not recommended. What is your take on that?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Thermostat was put in an engine's cooling system for a specific purpose, so my take is, don't take it out. The car won't run at its optimum performance, and you can cause long term engine damage, and use more fuel etc.. I have a video on my channel about the Thermostat . You could view that one. I go into more detail therein

    Excellent.. thank you!! Question:
    ...any experience of erratically water guage that shows rising temp starts even flashing red light when the water is actually not overboiling? I changed now 3x the top sensor with the one wire on it
    ...and face same problem. Changed both fan sensors and even thermostat too. Can you advise? Golf mk1 cabrio 1986 1800cc?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have replaced all those parts ,maybe time to check out the cluster in the dash..I also have an issue with mine working erratically,also replaced temp sensor ,but still the same.., I really don't want to fiddle on that cluster .will have to get someone in The know .I'm also thinking it could be an electrical issue like a bare wire touching metal somewhere..I thought it would be as simple as changing a sensor or removing corrosion on contacts ,but I still haven't solved mine.

      By the way have you replaced or checked the Thermoswitch on the radiator..This activates the fan at the right temp , usually around 92 /95 degree Celsius

      If u take off the thin pipe running to the filler bottle is there coolant coming through? .. That's a sign of the water pump being finished, or maybe u have an air lock.

    Howzit What do I look for why my heat gauge not working?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be the fuse, or the connection behind cluster, or the sensor which is situated on the front of cylinder head. The wire could have come off, or corrosion causing a bad connection.
