Hey Blockhead. Awesome video and a great setup. Just a note from a professional Audio Engineer. It’s not great to “tap” the mic for your test. It can damage the capsule as it’s a mini condenser mic. Damaged capsules could lead to audio drops, crackling or distortion. Like you mentioned on the ride, rather scratch the mic as this won’t put pressure on the mic capsule. Much love all the way from South Africa🇿🇦
Appreciate the heads up! Yeah I don't usually tap it like that, that was just for the demonstration of this video, usually I just lightly scratch over the surface of it before rides to test.
I’m so glad you put this video out. Just last week I rode down to Tampa and on my way back I set my phone up on my handle bars and was recording and live streaming some of my riding. This got me thinking about starting moto vlogging, if not for TH-cam then for myself. Thanks for showing your set up!
Something i do want to point out. If you find your mic not working with the gopro mic adapter, make sure you are using a TRS mic, meaning it has 2 rings. Most vloggers dont mention this, just mention what mic you should use. If your mic has 3 rings, its a TRRS mic and you will wither need a TRRS to TRS adapter or a TRS mic. If your 3.5mm jack has 3 rings, you need to get a male to female adapter with 2 rings or buy a lavalier mic with 2 rings
YES, exactly.....no one mentions this! Luckily I'm a Guitar guy, so naturally I noticed all the Mic's for sale were showing TRRS.....and I'm looking at my GoPro thinking, yeah this is probably TRS.
My thing is hidden camera’s right now. All my vehicles have them, so I’m beginning to work at doing my bikes. Never know when an OathBreaker might need some attention. I plan on adding something decent for videos, so thx for sharing. I haven’t bought a GoPro, but I have a old ION that I like because I can watch & control it from my phone as I use the camera. I don’t even think anyone sells them in stores anymore, so GoPro is coming up.
To avoid the strain on your cpu while editing, you can still record in 4K, then make proxies of the footage which are smaller files you can edit with, then replace them with the 4K files for the export. That’s what production companies I’ve worked with do. Hope that helps in some way:)
@@tamas9402 4k is pointless cuz the human eye can't even resolve 1080p. Which is why to this day Hollywood movie studios also shoot their movies in 1080p then upscale the footage to 4k in post.
I bought these products from your video for my motocross helmet. Sounds great! I also have done it with the chest mount and clipped the mic to my chest strap.
I've found the lav mic cable an absolute pain to squirrel away so I've actually made my own custom microphone specifically for motovlogging, even manufacturing the case to hold the mic capsule in the best direction to avoid wind and pick up voice. Will be doing a video on these soonish.
Just sent my 4.0 commander back to exchange for a bigger size, hopefully it doesn’t take months for me to receive the replacement back, I love the helmet feels good fits great looks amazing
I always mount the gopro upside down. This helps me to turn it on/off with my left hand thumb without taking my right hand off the throttle. For me that's a lot easier. Also the quick record issue in my experience can be resolved if you opt to never put the gopro to hibernate or standby.
Nice. Very timely video. I want to get a GoPro and do vids for myself as well in the future. I was going to look up a ‘how to’ video about it, but you have saved me the time looking it up.
Like a lot of people here, I would like to know how you set up your Sena with this too. I know you could splice cables and solder everything back together, but is there an easier way you’ve used to do this?
Exactly! I’ve asked so many motovloggers this question. No one answers. I know how to do it with splitters and multi Chanel stuff but the editing is hard. Seems like it should be easier. And taking the other persons footage is a pain in editing too.
This! I’m pretty sure he mentioned he would go into it when he did his helmet setup and I was super pumped when he posted this but no sena tutorial or mention of how to get the crispy recordings :/
Excellent my friend, love that setup. I will be motoblogging soon on my first adventure ride. This for me is so simply , no high tech, and all you need is a good helmet location for a nice road capture, and an easy listening sound. Cool
That's pretty much my set up. The last month or so I have been having audio problems. Audio completely unintelligible when bike picks up speed. I think I figured it out. My Gopro Hero 7 Black lost Protunes. It was gone. I had to do a factory reset. Once Protunes was back I set audio to wind reduction. Everythig is back working great.
6:55 Have the same issue on my Hero 7 black, quick record = no mic. My Hero 5 Black works every time though. "Progress" LOL Nothing worse than going to edit and realizing your main camera files have zero audio. :/ Also should note you want to make sure you mount the camera so your visor will easily open. Hindsight.
Great video and information here for newer content creators such as myself, thank you!!! Though I personally prefer the handle-bar mount POV to see what the bike is going thru(lean angle/whoops/etc), I guess most people prefer this helmet style POV to watch moto-vlogs from? Would help if I were more vocal too, heh!
Yes most viewers prefer helmet mount, chin position preferably. Side mount can be distracting, and top mount, can be acceptable for MX racing. So I was told...
Bar mount means you can’t record audio unless you have another device to do that, and then you need to dub it over that footage. Bar footage is great, but you have to mix it in with other footage.
I do use the media mod, I do use an external battery, I also use the usb port, running a 6 ft cable to the external battery, this does a couple things, It allows the gopro to stay cool, and I never run out of battery, the only downside is it's not a water proof setup.
Hi buddy 👋 we’re in the same dilemma: did you come up with something? We were thinking that we only need to cover the battery and the section with the connections for the media mod: why can’t we cover them in some sort of plastic wrap and just leave the lens uncovered?😅
Great video! Good to know that the older mic adapter works with the Hero 10. I really didn't want that whole media mod adaptor. Just starting to pick out all the parts for my new ATV vlog setup. This will help! Cheers!
I’m starting to film again and want to put out some motovlogs and I use pretty much the exact same setup on one of my helmets per one of your earlier vids about setup and it is a great setup. Thanks for doing vids like this it helps out people wanting to do better content. 👍🤙
I live in southeast Georgia just a few miles away from Florida, and I know you ain't lying, I can see them rain clouds @ 15:12 and it is the same thing here in Saint Marys Georgia, I got trust issues with the weather man 😂😂
One thing I always wondered about is how you record the audio for your Sena. Is it just picked up from the speakers from the Sena by the mic connected to the GoPro? Thanks!
True with the beard. I have no beard, so on my old MT-07 you could hear wind no matter what I tried. I haven't recorded anything on my Road Glide yet, maybe the full fairing will take out the wind noise for me.
Check out the new enduro GoPro batteries for your camera. It lasts a lot longer then the standard stock one when recording at 4k or 5k 30/60fps. I just bought 2 of them.
I've just ordered a mic by turtle beachads for gaming headphones. Will be giving it a try when it arrives in a couple of days. It is about 5" long so might be a good alternative to all that long coil of wire.
Hay man just a quick one I don't recall a simpon review I remember the undoing review I have one so I'd like your input like the video man as always high quality 👍
Cool looking helmet but wouldn't recommend, incredibly loud with wind noise, and the overall fitment of it always lead to some plastic rubbing plastic sound, even when sitting still and just turning my head.
The more 'cover' or wind protection you add to a mic, the less mid to high frequency passes, and the more low tones are present. I've had good results with mic cover vs dead cat, but your experience may vary

You already have the extended arm, 90° adapter and housing together. I just bought one of those housings for my microphone, but I’m curious of how it actually attaches. I can’t get it 🤦🏼. Hero 8 with a purple panda mic with the foam cover and the GoPro mic adapter on a ruroc 4.0. No matter where I put the mic or which side, all I get is wind noise. Good audio sitting still with bike running but as soon as I go my voice can’t be heard.
Great video as always. I'm still rocking the GoPro 4, but will be upgrading at some point. I never did the heat gun or vise grip thing and I've never had an issue with it coming loose.

Great video I’ve subscribed. Quick question your carbon fibre Atals is it black or grey I’ve seen some videos where it looks grey ? Many thanks 🙏 pug man
Good video. Newbie question. Are there wireless mic products that you've tried? I have a flip up helmet. And so would prob bar mount my camera (getting one soon!). Ideally would like to avoid a cable running all the way from the camera to my helmet.
Would you send me a link to the exact same gopro mount for your helmet and what kind of mount for the Gopro adapter? Do you know how my Cardo Coms work to bluetooth in where my wife and i communicate where it comes across my V-logging?
Have you found a way to enable quick capture with audio when using an external mic? It’s too difficult to turn the GoPro on and then begin filming while moving, and you’ve normally missed the moment…
Thanks for the video, well done and helpful. I like to have my Go Pro (haven't gone to a 360 camera yet) on my handlebars (actually, I attach it to the handguard). So for me to do that and be able to blog I would have to run the microphone cord from the Go Pro up to my helmet. Have you tried that? I suppose the wire would be flying around from the wind and be annoying. Would be nice to have a svelte wireless system! Thanks.
I forgot to say I use a Shoei Neotec II so it isn't possible to add the Go Pro to the chin bar. Don't really want to get a new helmet so that I could do that.
Hey man! Love your videos. I’m an iron rider myself. Why don’t you recommend the GoPro hero 9? Lmao that’s what I have. Been thinking of setting up my helmet, but don’t want to do it all if there’s a problem with the model I’m using haha.
@ 19:48 I can't believe you run a tac reload and index your batteries!!! This is Gold thanks for the tip!!!
As a fellow audio/broadcast professional, I endorse this comment!!
Appreciate the heads up! Yeah I don't usually tap it like that, that was just for the demonstration of this video, usually I just lightly scratch over the surface of it before rides to test.

I haven’t bought a GoPro, but I have a old ION that I like because I can watch & control it from my phone as I use the camera. I don’t even think anyone sells them in stores anymore, so GoPro is coming up.
I like my ION. At the time I bought it, I felt it was mucc better than the GoPro option.
I haven’t seen any ION in a store for years.

Do you use a second giant squid mic for the audio from the Sena? And if so how do you get two mic inputs into the mic adapter?

Can you ride with that in the rain? Isn't the gopro vulnerable since there is an opening at the charger port?
I’d like to see your camera set up that you use right now when filming in the shop.
On your gopro do you leave the camera set to wide 16-34mm?
I still can’t believe we’re in 2023 and none of these companies have come out with something to make this lighter and easier on us 😢
