    Job well done. I felt the same way with my aluminum ramps. I built a similar design . Worked well. I also used the plastics from the aluminum ramps lol. For traction I used old worn out Teflon slides from my snowmobile rails. Worked well. My truck has an 8’ bed so my ramps and deck were a little longer. I tapered the flip up part like dove tail. When I pulled out my ramps they lined up perfectly with the dove tail angle. I used a couple of steel pins to secure the ramps for loading the snowmobile I added a couple of the Teflon traction bars I made to the top of the deck to avoid spinning when backing the snowmobile out. All the best to you and your family in the new year.

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have seen the dovetail design as well Lloyd. I would have done it here but that was all the 2x6 I had on hand. And I’m a long ways from a hardware store lol. Worked out cuz the ramp hooks in the top but also is supported by the edge of the tailgate. So it shares the brunt of the load. Just a fluke.

    Great job. I built one a few years ago never used it tore it apart and made something else with it I also have a set of aluminum ramps don’t use them either lol. I don’t like how far the big sleds stick out of the 6.5 boxes would rather use my snowmobile trailer this way I am not scratching up the sleds and I still put my pelican and whatever else in the back of the truck but to each there own. You did an amazing job building it I hope it works well for you. Take care and we will see you in the next video

      I used to own a small trailer years ago as well. I thought about reinstating it but then I’d have to find a place on the highway to turn it around etc. unless I unhooked it and turned around by hand etc. I’ll give this a try and hopefully all works out.

    Love it, I've considered making one too - my truck has one of those multi-pro tailgates and can't bare the thought of messing it up with the weight of a snowmobile. This kind of thing would take the weight off my upper tailgate.... great idea. I was reading the comments and I liked the idea of edging a short piece of 2x4 along the inside of your ski boots to keep the ski-doo from potentially slipping off the platform. Great video - good mix of construction and cooking/cabin things - the transitions made for great storytelling - well done!

  • @SoleEpiphany
    @SoleEpiphany 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That dog’ll hunt. We used to have balusters instead of the aluminum on ours. Yours was much more refined though, I used to see fellar’s let the tailgate tethers go so it would drop down on an angle and cut slots in the tailgates themselves, but that was when they were all metal and not really complex and expensive tailgates like nowadays. I wonder if this setup is mostly a Newfoundland thing as like you said it’s a very common setup on pick ups around here. Certainly better than having to back up to a snowbank😉

    Hi Chuck! You have a great rig there now. Guess your only other option TIL you get more snow is a trailer but dragging one of those around isn’t fun. Your old cabin sure makes a great work shop. When we burnt lots of wood,I also liked to get r done early. Never know what the winter has planned in a few weeks time. TIL next time, take care

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes and it’s hard to find a place to turn around on our highway. You can literally go 20 kms before finding a driveway. Otherwise I’d have to unhook trailer and turn around by hand etc. even that has its hazards. I’ll give this a try for now and see if I like it. If not, on to the next project lol

    • @KChandler9362
      @KChandler9362 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know you have your boughten sleds but think if it were my thing I’d build a work single sled that would be able to use as the part that goes on back of your truck and you skidoo would ride on it . Just so it’s multi purpose. Yet still have the ramp to go on for loading.

  • @acdatz6222

    Any issues with the carbides hitting the hinges when backing it off? You could have moved them towards the middle by about 8 inches. Great build.

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No because the skidoo is in the “pivot” stage at that point when the carbides meet the hinges so there’s little to no pressure. I thought about adding another couple of hinges in the middle just in case tho. And I still can. They cost $4 for a pack of two so well worth it lol

  • @mooseguyable
    @mooseguyable 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Measure the distance from the ground to the truck bed or trailer. This will help you determine the necessary length of the ramp.Use a circular saw or jigsaw to cut the wooden planks or plywood to the desired length for the ramp surface. Cut 2x4 or 2x6 lumber to create the frame and supports.
    Create a frame using the cut lumber. The frame should outline the edges of the ramp and provide additional support. Attach the frame to the underside of the ramp surface.
    Install additional supports beneath the ramp at regular intervals for added strength. Attach these supports perpendicular to the frame.
    If the ramp needs to be elevated, attach legs to the underside. This will depend on the height needed for loading and unloading.
