Chuck has always said it’s an ice fishing tent - he’s upfront about it. But he has modified it and I saw one vid where he camped out in -42 Celsius. Sounds like some great adventures in Alberta. Would love to camp in that area that straddles the BC border. 👍
Great setup. I enjoy all your videos. I did notice your carbon monoxide sensor is to high. Carbon monoxide is heavier than air and tends to fill the room from the bottom upward. You should place your censor a little lower.
Wild game is the best for sure. I learned something off you today Chuck. Those poles to keep the sleeping bag away from the stove is a great idea. I'll add that to my bag of tricks. I love winter camping too. I've used wall tents, and now have a teepee made out of some high tech material. I've been in it with winds up to 90k with no issues, and like you, I use the Winnerwell stove as well. Breakfast looked great, used to have all the time, beans and bologna. Really enjoy your videos. Keep 'em coming!
Im from manitoba and all i knew called growing up is a ski-doo never heard it called till i was a older adult. I'm 62 years old and I still call it a ski-doo. Sure enjoy your vids keep them coming
Great tips in this video that I hadn't thought of before. I mostly winter camp at Provincial Parks where we can't cut wood down so I either bring two extendable tent poles to keep my ice shelter from caving in or I set an alarm every two hours to go take a peek at how much has accumulated and then I use my shovel to lightly scrape it off the roof. If I ever get to crown land I'll be using your pole hack for sure! Thanks for taking the time to make this great video, I've recommended your channel to a few friends. I can't wait to get out in another snowstorm!
I grew up in New Zealand and outdoor survival in part of our culture. Awesome video. Im living in Scotland we have awesome winter outdoors here as well

Im from the Upper Michigan and had snow machines since almost day one.. yep.. It didn't matter if it was an arctic cat, Scorpion or whatever. It was a "ski doo". And really still is to me. And Im 75
Awesome video to start a Sunday morning with the sun coming up and a cuppa tea. Must go put on breakfast "da once" or is it early brunch... Lol. I still love a treat like a custard cone, or now it's a soft serve. I absolutely love our slang and still use the old words even if it is not "proper" and I get corrected. The stubbornness comes out in me then and I pull out my totally newfunknees slang at that point. Oh yes ... Why is it so hard to pronounce Newfoundland... "Properly"... Lol.
Same here Chuck. Skidoo all the way. I will never call them Sleds. No matter the make, they are all skidoos. Like you, I ride skidoo brand but it wouldn't matter. Looks cozy in the tent.
Hard to change some things hey Stephen. If i called it a sled I’m sure everyone in the room would turn and stare as it would somehow sound ridiculous coming from me lol.
Yep, the old “skidoo” or “snowmobile” terminology confusion. Actually a lot of us in the north do call snowmobiles “skidoos”. Another crazy, newer one is when guys call their four wheelers “bikes”. 😆
Haha it is the same for me...I had different makes and models over the years and we always said we were going out skidoing...it is great to see just how well the eskimo does in those conditions...I bet your pillow made all the difference...great video

Great Video...... I still call them skidoos, I can't get use to the term sleds. To me a sled is something you tow behind or slide down a hill on. I grew up in Corner Brook but spent many of my summers with my grandparents in Birchy Bay. Occasionally going in boat to Gayside as it was known then. Growing up my father (from Birchy Bay) occasionally use to have a snack in the night time but he called it getting a "Little Lunch". So I guess some of us Newfoundlanders have 2 lunches in the run of a day depending where you are from. Breakfast, lunch, supper and Little Lunch. And of course the Little Lunch is anytime after 9pm.....lol

Interesting about skidoo vs snowmobile. Like(at least in the USA) saying Skil saw for every circular saw, the most common version of something becomes the name for all in the type. I recently learned that in the US south, a Coke is ANY soda... Someone will say "want a coke?" then ask what brand/kind/flavor you want. weird as heck to me, but that's how they do it. This is actually one of the reasons I really enjoy your channel; We live in 2 places about as far apart as you can get in north America, and still be in the same climate, the same basic land, (the "north country"). I've lived off grid, and off the roads, and generally an outdoors sustained lifestyle, and can really relate. But at the same time, the cultural differences, and differences in doing things, and yes, the slang and terminology are great to see and learn about!! In Alaska, at least in the interior and northward, for the past 60 years at least, its been snowmachine(yup, one word not two). I was in my teens before I ever heard the term snowmobile, and then on TV as I recall. Then as we gained people moving here, that was always a lower 48 thing, you could tell the cheechako(tenderfoot) instantly in the wither cause they'd say snowmobile. Somewhere in the 90s it became Sled for anyone under probably 30. I figured it came from the "sport" riders, racing or mountain riding, as a "cool" term. Heck, I've been known to use it when I want to sound "cool" with the younger kids lol Although, for here, Now, Snowmachine is still the most used term. Only place anyone says sleigh is in reference to what horses pull! If its behind a snowmachine ;) its a sled. Never hear toboggan either... Not locally. If you ride it without power its still a sled. (so yes, the sentence "we're taking the kids sledding" can be a crap shoot as to what is meant.) From some old timers, I've heard the term sledge too, but that's getting Very rare. Then there are the dog mushers, and they have sleds, or specifically called a dogsled usually. Here's one for you, "Termination Dust", ever heard that one? Refers to the first dusting of snow on the mountains in the fall, and usually the first that "sticks" or stays without melting off. Signals end of summer, termination of the season so to speak. I never heard it till the late 90s, but have been told it was in use back as far as the early 70s at least. Glad you got some snow too, should make the firewood a bit easier. I've been there hauling wood on those ROUGH trails with little to no snow, never any fun. Extremely mild winter here too, warmest I can remember(I've been here almost 40 years--born here), verry light snow year for us too. But Anyway, thanks for the video Chuck! Looks like your having a good time, keep it up. :)
Nice to hear from you my friend....when we grew up, when you asked someone if they wanted a "can of drink", it meant soft drink (Coke, pepsi, etc) We still call them "Skilsaws" lol As well, ALL paper towels were called "Scot Towels" I think it may have been what you first heard growing up and the brand name was evident on the side of the package. Neat to analyze tho hey... Never heard of Termination dust tho!! I like the perspective of the term "DogSled" Glad you tune in buddy. Cheers
I was laughing not smiling when you start the Skidoo stroy,, always call those things the same as you LOL Had an Evinrune and an Artic cat ..No Snow here in Nova Scotia but heavy rain abnd winds
I grew up in Maine in the 70s & 80s not only were all snowmobiles “ski-doos” but you had a ski-doo suits and ski-doo boots! Coincidentally my grandfather helped a local businessman start the first Ski-Doo dealership in town…so at 52 I’m still partial to the BRP products!
Finally getting some snow here stuck on night shift till Tuesday morning hope to get out tenting and fishing next week. Your right how names of things change over time I think we call it whatever we’re feeling at the time . Great video I shared it with my daughter and told her to watch it with the children when she has time waiting for her feed back lol stay safe and we will see you in the next one Ian
First time viewer. I grew up in central Ohio (born in ‘54) and my faulty memory makes me believe we would start getting snow in December that would get regularly replenished until mid-March. We still get the occasional snowstorm and Canada sends us some bitter cold a few times a year but winter is just not what it used to be, or so it seems. I really enjoy “wintering” vicariously through videos like this and I’ll be visiting your channel again. 👍👍👍
I grew up like you, village at best, watching Lloyd n Bryce. Your doing a awesome job and keeping the Newfoundland Outdoors alive for those of us that love it but cannot enjoy it right now
Breakfast dinner supper...bed lunch and don't forget the stopper after dinner and supper.(cookie something sweet aka stopper) Another fabulous video oh I calls my Yamaha bravo a skidoo....take care.
I grew up in Connecticut and we always called the ski-doos no matter what brand name. We also used to go sledding downhill and carry our sleds back to the top. Down here in northeast Tennessee, they call a beanie or winter hat a toboggan. A toboggan to me was the long sled we ride down hills and “bailed out” when we thought we’d crash into a tree or something. 🤣 Love your channel. Just found it!
I was camping during the winter in home made shelters when I was 13 years old....1974. -25 F sleeping in a lean-to was no picnic! lol I had an axe, army winter sleeping bag my uncle gave me and my back pack with my hunting knife and a ferro rod. Todays bus crafters and more like camping in store bought shelters eating gourmet meals and drinking craft beer....lol
That was allot of snow in a short period of time. Looked so cozy in the tent with great food. You're fun facts was so true and funny Lol Thanks for the video!
Your camping experience is a joy to watch. I subbed right away because I sensed your video would be great. I must enjoy everything vicariously at my age, 75. Years ago my friend told me Nefies like to drink "screech". Thank you so much for your good work. Stay well and safe. From the Outer Banks of N.C USA.
Haha. Screech. Glad you tuned in my friend. Screech is a rum that Newfoundlanders use in a ceremony to make someone an “honorary” member of the province. The whole performance is called “screeching in”. I have only performed one of these ceremonies myself, however, I have seen countless others performed. Ironically, I know no one who actually drinks this rum on a regular basis lol
Videos like these make me appreciate my warm apartment. Late September, early October is the latest I've ever camped. Never had the opportunity to camp like this. It's fun to watch. Made me a little chilled. Had to eat spicy Noodle soup and a cup of hot tea.
The first time I tried it years ago, I was quite nervous. Now that it’s been a few years I feel much more comfortable (comfortable enough to try it in a blizzard).

Heck, I've been known to use it when I want to sound "cool" with the younger kids lol
Although, for here, Now, Snowmachine is still the most used term.
Nice to hear from you my friend....when we grew up, when you asked someone if they wanted a "can of drink", it meant soft drink (Coke, pepsi, etc)
We still call them "Skilsaws" lol
As well, ALL paper towels were called "Scot Towels"
I think it may have been what you first heard growing up and the brand name was evident on the side of the package. Neat to analyze tho hey...
Never heard of Termination dust tho!!
I like the perspective of the term "DogSled"
Glad you tune in buddy. Cheers
Love watch your videos
Always good to see another newfoundlamder on the tubes.
Take her easy boss.👍👍👍
Sound like where I grew up. Kimberly West Virginia. Tiny little wholesome town.
I was laughing not smiling when you start the Skidoo stroy,, always call those things the same as you LOL Had an Evinrune and an Artic cat ..No Snow here in Nova Scotia but heavy rain abnd winds
Sometimes it’s the simplest things become the funniest things in life lol
Northern Quebec boy and yes the Sno Jet and Skiroule were always called ski doos. You know how to warm the soul Chuck
Good comfy tent and great grub.Chuck you got it made!!
Haha. Skidoo suits and boots!! Completely forgot about that!!!
Finally getting some snow here stuck on night shift till Tuesday morning hope to get out tenting and fishing next week. Your right how names of things change over time I think we call it whatever we’re feeling at the time . Great video I shared it with my daughter and told her to watch it with the children when she has time waiting for her feed back lol stay safe and we will see you in the next one
Ian
Haha. And thanks so much for the video!!!!! That was so cool to insert lol. My mother thought it was the sweetest thing ever 👍❤️
Same thing growing up in very small town New Brunswick 🤣 when it comes to the skidoo and supper
Looks so enjoyable
First time viewer. I grew up in central Ohio (born in ‘54) and my faulty memory makes me believe we would start getting snow in December that would get regularly replenished until mid-March. We still get the occasional snowstorm and Canada sends us some bitter cold a few times a year but winter is just not what it used to be, or so it seems. I really enjoy “wintering” vicariously through videos like this and I’ll be visiting your channel again. 👍👍👍
Tks for tuning in my friend.
Great video looks like you have a nice life see you next time ❤
Call them skidoos here in Northern Ontario, lol😊
I grew up like you, village at best, watching Lloyd n Bryce.
Your doing a awesome job and keeping the Newfoundland Outdoors alive for those of us that love it but cannot enjoy it right now
Tks Tim buddy
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors oh and nothing can beat the old 12 elan SKI DOO, indestructible
Awesome video Chuck I especially liked the funny facts so true and I laughed just as hard.
lol...gotta chuckle at ourselves don't ya bhy
Breakfast dinner supper...bed lunch and don't forget the stopper after dinner and supper.(cookie something sweet aka stopper)
Another fabulous video oh I calls my Yamaha bravo a skidoo....take care.
Yes sir. I owned a bravo and it was a skidoo as well. But man, when those bravos first came on the scene, what a game changer that was!!!
I'm from near Liverpool UK and we whilst not having the need for motorbikes on skis called them skidoos! 😂
Love your channel. Just found it!
Great comment! Love the lingo. Thanks for tuning in
I was camping during the winter in home made shelters when I was 13 years old....1974.
Yes. I'm originally from Ottawa, and they are skidoos and sleds, lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing..... Oh... And it is supper, lol.
lol. I’m surprised to hear so many people share the same lingo to be honest. Good stuff
Thank you for sharing your adventures. It really helps those who can't because of disability.
You’re more than welcome Amanda. Really glad you are tuning in my friend 👍❤️
we call them a SLEDGE but we have no snow so i guess we are sledgeless thanks for the funny facts its only a warm minus 2 here in the UK
That was allot of snow in a short period of time. Looked so cozy in the tent with great food. You're fun facts was so true and funny Lol Thanks for the video!
Awesome video. Love watching you, your family and the doggies. Keep them coming.
Sure was a good way to spend a stormy night.
lol in the Yukon and in AK a lot of people call them snow go’s, not snow mobiles.
I use a Gloy's Heat Pal 5000 Swedish alcohol heater and cook stove safe. Origo 5100 newer model
Nice. Will have to look that up 👍
Your camping experience is a joy to watch.
Chuck
Awesome job with your channel, from the content, great camera angles and most of all your humour!
The um um um um ummmm cracks me up and I even catch the wife doing it!
Love your genuineness and how you come across, keep up the great channel! I enjoy putting your channel on while working in my shop or in the kitchen, keeps me close to home!
Thanks again
Dion Hancock
Tks bud. Glad you’re tuning in dion
Keep up the good work ❤
So good. 🏕️
Chuck it's a good thing it's almost supper time when I'm watching this, you're making me hungry. Another great video my friend, and I can't wait to start winter camping here, but more rain coming tomorrow... Oh well, no sense worrying about it. Perhaps a hike, hunt, and boil-up is in my future.
Thanks bud. I’m sure you will occupy your time in the woods like you always do. Love your videos my friend 👍
I have a feeling you guys call it a ski doo is because it's the first machine that got introduced to you guys.
I myself just bought a 1970 ski doo olympique. I was born in 71!😂😅
I think you're right!!
As a kid in Northern Ontario we called them all Ski doos too.
Really, over around North Bay, we called em snow machines...interesting, I must be ancient lol.
In BC the sleigh is called a skimmer. All snowmobiles are called skidoos here too, no capital S - skidoo. Clothes for snowmobiling = skidoo suit.
skimmer! wow - first time hearing that - makes sense tho! and yes!!! skidoo suit!!
Heard you say "Lok at that, luh!" and instantly was back in the woods with my Dad, checking rabbit slips and trouting. Good times! Thanks for the excellent content.
😂😂 funny play on words for sure! It will always be called "Ski-dooin' " by this guy.
Great video 👍👍
