    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
    Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
    These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    Great to meet you yesterday, Ryan ... despite the early hour and the I'm-not-in-Savannah-anymore temperature. And great to see that you seem to be enjoying the machine. I just wanted to jump in real quick to correct a quick point for your viewers. At 4:15 I meant to say the machine has a ROC with the boom retracted of about 3,600 lb (and about 2,300 lb with the boom fully extended). I'm enjoying reading everyone's comments. Talk to you soon. -Ashby

    JCB is one of those up-and-comers that produce excellent machines that are very clever. Not just a standard skid steer, but with a telescopic arm. Their backhoes are also very well thought out and cleverly designed. So far the only knock I have heard against them was the availablity of parts. They are improving, but the rental shop repair tech I know (in my fantasy league) says when they get a return on a machine that needs parts, sometimes it takes much longer than, say, a Cat or Deere part. But this machine is badass.

    I'm from the UK and so have driven a lots of JCB products over the years on construction sites, mainly Back Hoe type machines and 360 deg turn excavators. JCB continue to improve and expand the product range, and move into other markets as in your case farming, there range of fast trac tractors are seen zooming through the lanes hauling all types of trailers at a fast speed. Doing away with trucks and trailers.
    The last machine I drove had a electric kettle for hot tea & coffee, though I did hear Health & Safety wanted them banned. The nanny state.
    Near Rochester in Kent there's even a Thyme Park dedicated to JCB run by a JCB Dealership, young kids can get the feel of driving an excavator and the parents seem to have as much fun as the kids. There also a formation team doing displays with the Back Hoes, Telly handlers etc. as near a dance as they can make it.

    Just a word of advise Ryan for the tracks, really read the manual and check online as well but make sure to keep an eye on that track tension and make sure to add it to your inspections list because it's easier than you think to walk your track off and believe me unlike metal tracks where you can just break track and redo it rubber tracks can be a right pain to get back on the rollers just something to keep in mind.

    They are extremely nice skid steers. The price goes with that. Maybe they will give you a good deal with good terms. Volvo also sells a single arm skid steer. It might be made by JCB. I suspect all companies will eventually go to it. Just like telehandlers have replaced larger forklifts and loaders.

    PRO TIP: If the dealer didn't do so already, in your H-Pattern/SAE control selection, start your operational usage out with T (Travel reaction speed) and L (Loader reaction speed) in 1-1 then play around with the speeds later.
    A lot of people find the electro-over hydraulic controls "jumpy" till they get used to the feeling in the sticks. I assume since you are going to run the H-pattern since you run bobcat, but get used to the stick reaction speed first and go from there. The confidence level will go up quickly

  • @jacobo565
    @jacobo565 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    They're junk. The boom controls are clunky/jumpy. Simply traveling in the machine exposes the same faults in the drivetrain. Their breakout power is a joke. They cost like a new Cat while being half the machine. You want your side door? Fine, go get it. I know a lot of people that are on board with JCB for that feature alone.
    If you can function without the side door, buy the Cat. It's a better machine.

    Who's fn farm works this way? Do you demo land also? Is your house rented or you demo that as well? I bet your neighbors are mad as hell trying to compete with people who are freeloaders. If I had a neighbor "demoing" all this equipment I'd go tell him he's a sack of sh@t. Farms don't work this way in the real world people like me drive crap we have to fix and pay for. I'm disgusted. then when us paying customers go to a dealership their cost of letting you freeloaders use equipment is passed on to us.

    I guess I don’t understand how this works and I’m not trying to be a jerk or a troll here but if these guys watch your videos then they already know that this machine is way above your budget so why would they let you demo it knowing full well that your not going to buy it. I’m in the water well drilling industry and I wish these guys down here would let us do that hell, I could demo equipment year around and my overhead would be close to nothing. I do love your vids Ryan and like I said, I’m not trying to be an ass it just seems you guys demo a lot of stuff and rarely buy any of it

    Hey Ryan! Yes, you will have some fun with the JCB...but I imagine the ease and timeliness of feeding cattle will be the real selling point. It's probably very expensive with all of its' necessary features but you know, sometimes you gotta spend money to make money. Good luck this month with the JCB and, as usual, thanks for sharing your world with us...take care Ryan.
