    Ford is the pickup truck innovator. Yes, Ram upped the interior threshold, but outside of that, Ford has literally been a pioneer for everything else on the current pickups we've seen in the last 20 years.

    I seriously think Ford has just built the best half ton truck that’s ever been made I’m so impressed and the funny thing is everyone that has anything negative to say it’s because were overwhelmed with his goodness it has so much goodness we don’t know what to do with it it’s kind of like a man complaining about being tired of counting his money he’s got too much money so he complains how tired he is staying up at night trying to count his money that’s how good this truck is

    I gotta say, I'm not a Ford guy. However, I can be objective and say that Ford did hit it outta the ball park with this F-150. The technological advancements, features and hybrid powertrain are pretty amazing. Clearly, I have no need for a truck this size right now but if I ever do this will probably be at the top of the list.

    One twist to the towing portion of your tests I'm sure a lot of us would appreciate, is to include an enclosed trailer in your fleet. Towing a big box, even at a lighter weight, can test the truck far more than a flat deck due to wind resistance, etc.
    Either way, love the channel and can't wait for future reviews!!

    The truck tech in the new F150 proves just how much more innovative Ford is than the other manufacturers. I didn't feel like spending the coin on the hybrid so I settled on an STX but it's still an amazing vehicle and tons of functional truck technology.
    Excellent review sir.

    This is really a fantastic half ton. You get insane power, fuel economy, generator and properly equipped truck capability and offloading. Raptor and all is great but this will do 90% for 1/3 or less cost over its lifetime and things that truck could not do.

    12:40 - Hybrids have a "mandatory" beep when in Reverse gear.
    17:35 - Fair point, it's a "busy" cabin … I just got one two days ago. The drive today (200 miles) put a total of 500 miles on the odometer and was only my fourth time behind the wheel and the first time I was confident the touchscreen and steering wheel controls were helping me and not distracting me.
    Driving with nothing in the bed, the ride is comfortable and even luxurious on the freeway. I feel the rear suspension reminding me I paid for max trailer tow, but the FX 4 springs are longer travel and softer, so even on bad city streets, this is not a "kidney belt" bruising ride of a typical half ton with leafs.
    I'm at "day three" and greatly impressed. Hauling a full bed of heavy equipment, every seat occupied in the cabin, gaining over 6000 feet above sea level, up to a 75 mph, not sparing the horses for overtaking, averaged 19 mpg. Driving with the distance-keep and lane-keep cruise control is confident on winding mountain freeway curves and the cabin is quiet and calm, so a four hour drive was enjoyable.

    Stephen, since a lot of us here are dads or new dads, could you possibly start adding a 30 sec segment on backseat child seat room. Forward facing and rear facing to back of driver or passenger seat. That’s would help a lot. Thanks!

    • @brightymcbrightface
      @brightymcbrightface 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The back seat in this F-150 is great for child seats (LATCH) and space/access. I'm 6'1" and the space behind the driver's seat is ample for rear-facing.
      I agree it would be useful for new buyers to see a compilation of photos and measures to compare.

    • @brightymcbrightface
      @brightymcbrightface 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Given the current chip shortage, waiting is the better option if you don't need a vehicle. I was lucky to get one and will roll the dice on reliability. So far, so good, but I wouldn't want one of these out of warranty with computers and motors everywhere. Beside cost, the other factor in reliability is the problem of having a vehicle off road - can an individual or a business afford to have a vehicle out of service. If my pickup was live-or-die critical to my business, I'd be more careful.
      The way I see it, the 2021 F-150 is 90% the same as previous years, so all the reliability risk comes in the hybrid which is itself an already proven technology (in Lincoln.)
      So far, the only problem I've read about is underbody rust in vehicles driven in regions where winter road salt is a problem - that's something Ford must fix, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.

      So it’s been a year, so far the most complains are about the Sync4 which is kind of a big deal as this truck is pretty much wrapped around this system and other electronic modules. I’m still scared to pull the trigger on it as I don’t trust Ford when it comes to their complex systems. Also somebody posted out a video of the underside… so many wires, connections, relays and it’s all exposed to water/salt. IDK, I love the truck but I can see it being a headache for those who keep the vehicles long term.

    I really love what Ford did with this truck, it is incredible how much they packed into it. In my opinion the styling is great too, interior / exterior it looks great, power, comfort, it seems to have it all. I do have that mindset of the electronics breaking but mine is more of a functionality question. If the screen does go or the shifter motor goes do I still have functionality to at least drive and be productive or will the truck be so dependent that it basically say nope sorry you have to get this fixed before you can use it or be in a limp mode that is basically useless.
    Side note in 2008 my office moved locations and my commute to work quadrupled in distance so I got a small Toyota Yaris for the gas milage. It has absolutely no bells and whistles and of all things is has manual crank windows LOL. I still have it and it still runs great. Like your show. You and your dad share a lot of the same questions regarding vehicles as myself. Maybe because we share similar environments (far northern Wisconsin)? Mud, spring thaw, heavy snow, heavy salt use, dense woods, wetlands ,very cold weather and ice have different challenges than the west (rock climbing, sand). We don't have the awesome views or mountains, which are spectacular to watch. I think Ford has a homerun with this hybrid/generator F-150. Too costly for my farm, even the larger generator can't handle my vacuum pumps in the barn, but still Ford always seems to be ahead of the innovative game. Currently I run an old Dodge 5.9 Cummins. My old F-350 dually was great (7.3 IH), but the the salt just destroyed the body.

    You can hear the "pedestrian warning speaker", at 8:49, everyone's been asking about if there's a problem. Apparently it's normal. Would like the ability to change the sound to something more "fun"?! Kind of disconcerting at first discovery. Still discovering my Powerboost. So far, great truck, great video!

    Most complaints of the console shifter should be reminded that it's an option on anything below lariat. Column shifters are more regular on XLT and that's what I have on my 21 f150. 0 complaints of it, and it gives you more room in the console itself. (we have 40 console 40)

    I would love to have some lighting on my personal vehicle. I’m a paramedic and I get used to flicking on the side lights in the ambulance to look for house number plates. Often in my personal vehicle I find my hand going to the dash for the lights and miss having them.

    The antennae is for the farmers and the folks that live outside of town. The crappy shark antennas does pick up long range FM very well. Having the long mast gives them the ability to still listen to their favorite tunes far away. If you look the trucks are the only vehicles with the long antenna anymore.

  • @jclemond

    The sound when you were backing up was not the parking sensors... it is because it is hybrid and doesn’t make any sounds... it makes these beeps for warning people you are backing up... very annoying and it can’t even be turned off from what I know. Hopefully enough people will provide feedback and since it has over the air update, a new option to turn it off will arrive soon.
    My new F-150 Lariat Powerboost should arrive within 1 month. It is my fist full size. I am a two times Ridgeline owner. I loved that “truck” but the technology in the F-150 moved me for the first time in my life away from Honda to Ford. I ordered it with assist 2.0 package that will give me Ford self-driving (Blue Cruise) with an over the air update later this year.Looking forward to a test of that from The Truck King.

    Thank you for an excellent review. I wonder what happens when the hybrid system hits the 10-year mark since we generally keep our vehicles past that age. I have two friends with older Prius models who had expensive battery repairs around the 8- to 10-year mark. Would it be better to buy the F-150 with the 5.0L V-8 and avoid having the pickup sidelined by repairs later on?

    Didn't expect a rant about crank windows as an added bonus! My 2013 has them old school windows and my E-350 also. Somehow I'm able to survive without infotainment, car play, blue tooth or any of that other crap. When I don't like what's on the radio, I shut it off and drive! If technology was so good, why does my cell phone force me to go out in the middle of the road and find the spot where it works? From what I see, the part of the smart phone that's smart, is the marketing that convinces idiots to stand in line and spend a grand on them, freakin sheep. Did I accomplish my goals today? That's all that matters. Now back to our regularly scheduled program, good job as always men.

      Before everyone starts attacking you, payload is GVWR - curb weight. Curb weight is dry weight + features. This Lariat has more features (including the hybrid power train) and the Ridgeline does not complete with F150.
      NOW. Compare Ridgeline with 1500 lbs payload to similar Tacoma with 900 lbs payload. Way better argument but still 2 very different types of buyers.

    That payload is the same as my 08 jeep grand cherokee, that's really sad since its coils all around and is unibody. The max payload package is available with XL and XLT trucks with the 5.0 or 3.5ecoboost only, but you can get it with any cab and either a 6.5 or 8 foot bed, and I believe it gives you over 3000lbs of payload in all configurations, but now you have a 5,000lb truck with 3,000lbs payload
    For the screen they just didn't want to be the same as ram, because in the expedition they are putting in the stupid vertical screen from the mach-e where the wagoneer, grand cherokee-L and durango have the horizontal screen. Also the explorer has a vertical screen
