I’ve got a 2017 Ram 1500 that fits my Dakine pad pretty well. I didn’t run into the issue with clamping the buckles onto the plastic coating on the straps. The one thing I noticed right off the hop is that the TRX tailgate is WAY taller than my truck tailgate. So I think that’s why you had issues with not getting enough length out of those straps. Which is fair. The TRX is a pretty niche/new size for 2020/21. I wouldn’t give up on Dakine if you’re watching this and still on the fence about purchasing one! We all run them on our trucks at work because pads from EVOC and Race Face haven’t been as durable in the past.
You have installed this tailgate pad incorrectly... Adjust the pad so the padded area cover both the front and back of the tailgate (at least 8inches of padding on the backside).

Yep you need the curve model for the RAM just ordered one today the camouflage pattern for $119 on Amazon.

Yeah not digging the tailgate pad too much. Toyota has bike mounts that you can bolt onto the bed of the truck and work great. Fits any truck.
