What totally amazes me (apart from how everything you do just works out to look REALLY good), is the fact that you don't have more subscribers and views! You are so talented and have such good ideas. I hope more people find you, you really deserve more recognition.
@@StiltbeastStudios I agree with every word of the comment above, I found the channel by chance and I became a fan, I'm from Brazil and I'm starting in the area. Thanks for your videos!!!
What I love most about these videos is I always start out thinking "oh this is going to look cheesy," because of the "cheap" materials. And then, without fail, I am completely impressed with the end result. It's a testament to Alan's cleverness that he makes me think "oh I could do this," and a testament to his artistry that makes me realize, no, I can't.
And artistic skill! But perhaps his greatest skill is the ability to explain it to a non-visual person like me, whose forte is with the electronics. Left to my own devices (pun intended) my stuff would look cheesy because of cheap materials and no f'in clue what I was doing.
Indeed. I wish someone would come up with a quick-drying paint. I think though, that most of your humor, at least that I am talking about, comes either at the beginning or ending of your video. Regardless, it is enjoyable. Keep it up.
I'm sure the green thicker foam is not going to be cheap here. Since I'm going to make them for next year the heavy foam flip flops I saw at the dollarstore might work. Just hope they have them in this summer and in green.
THIS WAS THE VIDEO I WAS LOOKING FOR. OUTSTANDING. I love the flexible hose. 3/4 in. x 6 ft. Rubber Self-Seal Pipe Wrap Insulation? What gauge of wire please? I am SO using this idea in my project of building twin snakes from spray foam or maybe not since I saw your pose. LOL
I'm so glad I found your channel. I just wish it had been a lot sooner. I am making my grandkids a haunted path and your ideas are fantastic and I love that you make stuff with everyday stuff, not things we can't get our hands on. I know next year my path is going to be awesome using your ideas. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Thank you Allen, I've just started doing a paper mache snake head and was trying to work out how to put scales on my pool noodle. From someone across the pond in Australia thank you for your videos they are wonderful and very easy to follow to a newbie in the haunt industry, doing my first big haunt this year and I'm so looking forward to it :) Chris
awesome video!!! I didn't realize the loofa was a tube. I did know that car painters use fish net pantyhose to make scales on custom painted cars though.
Awsome video! Thank you Allen. If you were going to make a few hero snakes with a lot of detail and wanted to use an airbrush to paint them would acylic paint hold up if you used glossifier to seal it? Again thank you very useful info.
How about "Ingeniously easy"? If your not the Einstein of haunt-stuff you're at least the MacGyver! www.gstatic.com/tv/thumb/tvbanners/183939/p183939_b_v8_aa.jpg
+StiltbeastStudios LOL yeah a snake does seem pretty high on people's phobias list. Maybe a Google search for top phobias make sure you didn't miss anything else lol.
I also forgot to mention that when painting scales onto the body I'm gonna stick to using fishnet fabric to drape it around the body as a stencil because it creates better scale patterns than using a Bath scrubber. Then again this is such a great tutorial so thanks again! lol
fishnet makes bigger scales that read easier to the eye, I wouldnt call them better just bigger. The shape of the scrubber scale I like. I found a heavy nylon net that works really well for bigger snakes.
Have you done any Cobras or other hooded snakes? Would you use the same material as the head? It will have to wait til next year, cuz I already have too many projects to finish this year, but I'd like to try that. Also; one that has a section in the middle that's made of a larger diameter insulation, is stuffed, and has the tips of the scales around the largest part traced with the soldering iron, so they stick up a bit. I'd use a larger scale pattern though. An old set of fishnets probably. Lol One other idea I had was to paint the body with glow in the dark paint before putting on the stocking and spray painting the scales, so the lines between scales end up glowing
If it helps, I always call them shower scrubbies. I thought loofa's were those tube shaped sponge things? :) But anyway, paint one and I bet they'd make a good shed snake skin.
Fantastic video Allen! Does the Armacell Rubber pipe wrap material have a generic name? I would like to make a much larger diameter snake like an anaconda or python than would be possible with the pipe insulation product so hoping to find just rolls of this material to cut to width needed and roll my own tubes so to speak. Any insight greatly appreciated!
could you of used the cut out parts (the neck and tail area) to make smaller snakes? and use some of those in a setting further away from your customers?? Great video
What timing, my theme this year is a campsite gone wrong, and what's more wrong then a bunch of snakes. Thanks. Are you going to finish your airbrush series??.
So, I've got everything but the .5in EVA foam. I'm 60 miles from the nearest Harbor Freight, and everywhere else seems to be 4 times as much. grrrr... I'll keep looking.
I'm trying this I've got everything and did the painting part I used rust-o-leum paint and let it dry for 24hours .2 things has happened, the loofa peel the scale look of and now the paint is flakeing .any Idea on if he pimered fist or different brand of paint
Doesn't your editing software have an audio mixer, so that you don't have to keep stopping the music every time you talk? I think it would be better if your music ran continuously in the background, under your narration/instruction in the foreground. Cool snake prop! You re-inspired me to create a "serpentarium" or snake room for Halloween. I just wish I had more time to plan it and construct it, but Halloween is next Saturday.
Nooooo please don't run continuous music. Makes it very hard for those of us with hearing challenges. (I'd prefer no music at all. It adds nothing to this tutorial). JMHO
It's actually not a Loofah either..loofah is a natural material, from the inside of a loofah gourd, grows on a vine...people think its a ocean sponge...but its not...
Anyone else annoyed that he didn't use the cut-out tail wedge to extend the tail/made the pupils round and constrictor-looking after all that sculpting a viper head?

Thanks for the snake tutorial Allen. Lots of helpful time-saving ideas. And it looks cool to boot!

Wonderful! I love that you do this!
I want to thank you for sharing this! I can probably make a few more of those Snakes, plus one of them can be used as a pneumatic animatronic!
WOW! I cannot believe how great those look!
thanks!

I have used these bath scrubbies as a "clay stamp" when I sculpt snakes.
I have a few nets I use for that also!
Snakehead! that would be a great name to a metal band. Great things as always to help us all MAKE STUFF!
glad you liked the video!
I'm bringing back the voodoo on the bayou theme this year for my home haunt, so this is going to work perfectly for it!
Oh! You could use those outdoor ball string lights to make the eyes for a glowing effect. Well, now I know what I’m doing for my haunted forest
you could indeed!
Remember those old school marbles?
I have to admit I would have never thought of a loofa for a snake scale pattern...another awesome tutorial Mr. Hopps
thank you, glad you like the video!
I think it is great the way you show how to do it all. Start to finish great video.
thank you so much!
That would make a great eel, With some fins and the right paint job.Maybe a different held sculpt ?
Heck yeah!
awesome video!!! I didn't realize the loofa was a tube. I did know that car painters use fish net pantyhose to make scales on custom painted cars though.
You are so awesome, thanks for sharing everything that you do.
I wish I had the time/ staff lol to share everything, I get to make a lot of stuff! but filming is hard!
Ohhh the cleverness of the bath scrubby... I was thinking “Fruit netting?” But you whole ass got something for the whole length. Crazy
luckily it worked out!
You never disappoint!!! Amazing!!
I need to make the snake look like it just had dinner, and I need a fake cat tail.
Awsome video! Thank you Allen. If you were going to make a few hero snakes with a lot of detail and wanted to use an airbrush to paint them would acylic paint hold up if you used glossifier to seal it? Again thank you very useful info.
Plastic Loofa for scales- GENIUS!!
Thanks once again, Mr. Hopps!
Not genius just easy lol

Looks cool! Only thing I'd change is the eyes. Should be a vertical slit for the pupil.
yup, easy fix
Would love to see the snake room!
as always incredible end result, thank you mighty beast.
Lol glad you like the snakes!
Thank you! Sending hubby to Home Depot, these are going to be great in my swamp!
go make stuff!
would love to see what you and hubby have for halloween and that swamp
adding one as well. these will be great
1st try done.. ty ty, love it..

awesome!
That turned out awesome, I have to try this!
You should!
Another great video! Thank you for taking the time to show us.
I can't believe in five years I haven't done snakes!
+StiltbeastStudios LOL yeah a snake does seem pretty high on people's phobias list. Maybe a Google search for top phobias make sure you didn't miss anything else lol.

Really cool snake, especially the head!
smh..so simple. I love it Allen, definitely need snakes for my swamp. you're a genius
Crafting at its best
Hum, I will have to try to make a few of those for Tracy...
do it!
This man is unironically a genuis
thats pretty strong language, but thank you.
How about a mesh laundry bag for bigger scales, makes great camo for air soft equipment or even pattern a marshmallow shooter with 1/2" pvc pipe
Sounds like a great idea!
Can you spray great stuff over a mesh or wire project and then trim it down with the razor blade to a specific shape
you can, not the easiest way to do it, but you can
Have you done any Cobras or other hooded snakes? Would you use the same material as the head? It will have to wait til next year, cuz I already have too many projects to finish this year, but I'd like to try that.

+trieva mcbeth Cool ideas I'd love to see your snakes! I would make a cobra the exact same way.
thanks very much, right I'm time for my swamp build, keep up the good work allen!
thanks man, let me see if you make any!
+StiltbeastStudios I will make some for sure. I'll message you in fb pictures
It Looks Great! But as my wife is afraid of any kind of snake, I doubt I'll ever get to try and make one.
Dude, the bath floof is made out of tulle, which is pretty inexpensive. Get you a package of small binder clips, also not too expensive, and violà.
another suggestion if you don't have a belt sander ?
If it helps, I always call them shower scrubbies. I thought loofa's were those tube shaped sponge things? :)
But anyway, paint one and I bet they'd make a good shed snake skin.
yeah, they are a cool material- Im sure they will pop up in other videos.
hey Allen. can you do a video about latex burn prosthetics
Perhaps I can down the road.
+StiltbeastStudios thanks Allen

Hey can u use wood burner is that like or almost the same as soldering iron
Can even use scrunchy as skin shed
indeed!
could you of used the cut out parts (the neck and tail area) to make smaller snakes? and use some of those in a setting further away from your customers?? Great video
As small snakes or as filler I sure could have, but the longest piece was about two ft.
Love your work
thanks, glad ya like it!
You are the MAN Allen Hopps! Thank you soon much!
Allen, I'm so unworthy but love the work...I'm gonna give this a go for a couple....great job.
Cool, glad you like the video, Id love to see how yours turn out.
It's almost that time again Allen! Maybe we should just take a road trip and honor your work ;)
Come see me!
I think we all want a snake without weird lumps...
What timing, my theme this year is a campsite gone wrong, and what's more wrong then a bunch of snakes. Thanks. Are you going to finish your airbrush series??.
I will, I had to bust this out for a friend who needed to make snakes!
ur snake gave me an idea for a dragon. thank you
old crone
”Hero snakes." 🐍
I love snakes. These are great. 😁❤
SSSSssss! that was thank you in snake.
I almost forgot to ask, in addition... where did you purchase the textured foam for the snake head?
the eva floor mats are from harborfreight or home depot. many places have them, the textured side varies a bit..
It looks good
Awesome! Did you glue the wire inside in any way to keep it from just free sliding around?
Great video. I'm going to make haunt in I want to make a bunch of snakes hanging down to walk through
these should work great!
Thumbs up! Excellent tutorial. I have saved all of my loafa thingies...now I know why.
Scale everything!
Love it!!! Would you recommend the tubing for tentacles? or something else?
You can use them for tentacles 6ft or shorter.
+StiltbeastStudios Thank you! My boyfriend and I just recently found your channel and we love it! you rock!
Pool noodles snakes 🐍 …
You could add a spike on the windshield wiper motor then stick the spike into the body to make it move side to side ….
there are a ton of sweet snake options!
So, I've got everything but the .5in EVA foam. I'm 60 miles from the nearest Harbor Freight, and everywhere else seems to be 4 times as much. grrrr... I'll keep looking.
camping mat at walmart.
+StiltbeastStudios You Da Man!
THANKS! Now I know how to make large snakes on a budget for our kid's haunt!
Yeah, these are pretty healthy snakes, right at the top end of realism for most north american species.
Is there a dremel attachment or type of disc for a 5 or 6" angle grinder that could be used instead of the belt sander?
+trieva mcbeth yes the barrel sander for the Dremel will work just as well.
Great job🙂
Love this tutorial! Quick question, what gauge wire did you use? I looked at Lowe’s and they had 12 and 18 gauge ceiling wire.
I believe it was the 18 gague
love the snake
this looks awesome could totally see this in my punk / metal apartment! just one question... why does he have puppy eyes?
cause Im to cheap to buy some!
but could you just have painted the eyes with the classic slit pupil or is there a technical problem with that?
no, just paint the slits when you make yours.
awesome thanks! :D
Love it!
i havent needed any snakes... but your tut has me wanting to make them, see what you do to me? lol awesome job
Sometime we have to make stuff cause we want to!
will be perfect for this years toxic swamp. thanks allen
cool! go make some!
FYI, all snakes eyes are slits good job love your work
Nope, most snake eyes are round, many venomous snakes have slits- but most snakes are not venomous.
Great video as usual. You're my Yoda.
lol... Mmmmm.... Make stuff you shall!
I'm trying this I've got everything and did the painting part I used rust-o-leum paint and let it dry for 24hours .2 things has happened, the loofa peel the scale look of and now the paint is flakeing .any Idea on if he pimered fist or different brand of paint
+james l. savage II I used a paint for plastics the 2x from Home Depot, but brushed on house paint works fine.

do think a pool noodle will work too? for the body of snake
Wow epic cool snake makes very life like
snakes are fun!
@@StiltbeastStudios Yes definitely snakes are definitely fun
Yes we do want to see the cockroach !

yeah, it looks a lot like a cucumber if I recall.
could you possibly do a live stream sometime? if so that would be awesome
surre, I do them ocassionally on google hangouts, but I might try a facebook live sometime soon.
You used Pipe Insulation for the snakes' bodies - couldn't you also use pool noodles?
not really- I used Isoflex pipe insulation which is supple and flexible pool noodles are really not that flexible.
DIY Brilliance.
wow thanks!
Anyone else annoyed that he didn't use the cut-out tail wedge to extend the tail/made the pupils round and constrictor-looking after all that sculpting a viper head?
I am, never even realized it till you mentioned it. But...when you make yours you can correct my mistakes!
You ever get the stolen taco issue resolved?
thanks for bringing that up! Now Im angry and hungry all over again!
that is awesome.. thank you
tanks for taking the time to comment.
Hey Allen. Why did you do bugs just askin. Can't wait 4 #DARKHOUR
Bugs? no, these are snakes. LOTS of creatures swarm.
+StiltbeastStudios Oh. Well maggots are pest and creepy. 🐍🐜
STOP TESTING HOT THINGS WITH YOUR HANDS!!!!
NO! lol
awesomeness... even guys are scared of snakes... lol not me!!
No one is a fan of surprise snakes, but planned snakes are not bad at all!
