Awesome just fantastic!! Going to attempt this for my pumpkin contest at work. Put my pumpkin in a straight jacket locked inside this. Ohhhhhhh yeah baby. Love this and your channel!!
I don't know if you get enough credit for being so damn brilliant. Not everyone can think the way you do Allen, making really cool, realistic things out of almost nothing. This is awesome, thanks again!
I’m an old guy , thank you for waking up my creativity young man. I am hooked on your videos, dusting off all my shop tools and preparing to make stuff,
I could easily fall asleep to your videos. That's not an insult or jab saying your videos are boring. Quite the contrary. Your voice is... Oddly soothing. And the quality of the things you produce always keep me interested.
Great work very inspired. For anyone wanting to recreate the painted bars... if making horizontal brown shadows on the outside, then make vertical shadows on the interior. Very picky I know - habit of being an artist.
not if there are strips inside and out as opposed to just one set on the outside, I was following the tower of london example which was made by coopers with barrel rings, they doubled up inside and out. but either way works.
This is really awesome. For the time invested this looks great, would be perfect if you were bashing a bunch out for a set. I think the one quick thing that would help if a really light sporadic sponging of either dark brown or a steel paint. I find it helps sell simulated rust really well giving that flaked off effect without having too spend forever trying to use chipping medium or something similar.
I just “discovered” this video today and now I want to find a plastic drum and get started. Plenty of time to make one for this Halloween season. I got lucky last week and bought a full sized male mannequin from a department store and made a life sized Michael Myers fro the front yard. This hanging cage design is AWESOME!
Your paint job is awesome! Well, the whole thing is, but making it look so realistic... you’re amazing! I can’t wait to make one of these! Thanks so much, Allen, for sharing your talent with us.
We made 4 of those out of steel. 3/16 2” flat stock as the main material, got a machine shop to roll lengths of it into 36” hoops. Then we welded the entire thing up into a 6’ tall cage with a little entry door. Welded an eyelet onto the top to hang it from chainfalls and the whole thing was strong enough to put actors in.
Wow! This is exactly what I was looking for. My neighbor and I have a Pirate Theme Battle every year for Halloween and we keep adding on to keep people coming back. I want to do this for this year and so glad I came across your video. Great job and thank you!
I've made a hanging cage out of 2 laundry baskets, but I like the dome top better. I may have to try to figure out how to dome the laundry basket. I also love how the googly eyes and the dark lines really add to the realism. Will have to try that also. Thanks for all the great ideas.
Super cool! i plan on making a hanging cage but just using PVC instead. I wish i had my hands on a barrel like this i would definitely go this route instead!
Another awesome TH-cam Wednesday. I was thinking about what I was goi* to do with the drums I have. I’ve got and can build stands and put on both sides of the side walk heading to the porch. Add a fog machine and it’s getting their..Thank you again Allen.you and Shannon are the best..
WOW. You are awesome at what you do. I’ve been doing a lot of your projects. I’m in love with what you do. Wish you were my neighbor. Wow wow wow. AMAZING. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. will be making this. Love it. ☠️
This is so cool! My one critique/question would be the lines on the inside for the bar contrast, shouldn’t they have gone the opposite direction of the ones on the outside?
Great video and I loved the idea so much that I tried it. For the top of the cage, instead of cutting the pieces and drilling a hole through them, I left them in tact. I put some heavy weight on the bottom of the barrel, suspended it, and used the heat gun to elongate those pieces to get the bends out of them.
Awesome work- it has a lot of possibilities-, glad you were able to make it work for you- and people throw these barrels away all the time, keep an eye out for them.
Came across your site about a month ago. Huge fan. Just to let you know I’m creating a Stiltbeast Studio themed display with Gibbet, Spooky Tree, and Weeping Angel. And I will let everyone know you were the inspiration. I am building stuff!
Thanks for this, I built one of these for Halloween 2021 and it turned out awesome; I always wanted skeleton in a cage prop but could not find what I as looking for, now i do :)
I think in your initial inventory of the hardware, you forgot to count one of the nuts - the one doing the amazingly creative work! ;) Thank you so much for sharing your talents. Your videos are very enjoyable.
Dude, this is so awesome you never cease to amaze me in your videos. My Daughter Julie was born on Halloween and gets so excited when October gets closer, she's 27 now and just got her own house and is always looking for something cool and creepy to decorate her new home inside and out for the Halloween season...she's going love this. Thanks for sharing your talents and posting, I know its a lot of hard work in creating and posting so I thank you for taking your time to share much appreciated Bro. Hope all is well with you and the Fam. and have a great weekend :)
Love this project! I would do mini ones for hanging around with little skeletons from Dollar Tree. I also would use Finnabair rusting and metallic patinas and waxes to achieve rusted effects for small projects. New sub!!
Hi, I'm almost done with this project but would love input on other paint color options as I can't seem to find a couple that you mentioned. The stores here are out of so many things. Thanks!
yeah, just look for anything that will get you that rusty look. red primer (its actually a brown) is a great base. Walmart seems to have the most spray paint right now.
THANK YOU! This is really awesome! I found your brain in a jar video (also awesome) so decided to see what else you posted out here in cyberspace. I wasn't exactly thinking of the GIANT cage when I first clicked on this, but wow, so glad I watched. This is truly brilliant (along with the brain video). I'm wondering if you think I can scale this down to use for a much smaller version. I ask because my husband--who knew all those tools he has--passed a couple of years ago and while I think he has many of the tools you have, I'm certainly new to using any of them (but I'm learning). I thought to try smaller not only because I'm unsure I can handle the larger one by myself, but also for the beginner in me. I'm finally coming out of the dark and oddly wanting to plan a Halloween party for next year for my family so I'm looking for a lot of Hocus Pocus ideas. I've already re-created Winnifred's spell book and am quite proud of how it turned out (very authentic--even added content to the pages!). I plan to try my hand at the black candle which looks easy, but this cage is off-the-charts cool. Thanks!
this exact same thing can be done with a five gallon bucket instead of a barrel, Proceed carefully and im sure you can handle it! I bet you have an awesome party.
Awesome just fantastic!! Going to attempt this for my pumpkin contest at work. Put my pumpkin in a straight jacket locked inside this. Ohhhhhhh yeah baby. Love this and your channel!!
awesome!
I have been doing a Harry Potter themed Halloween for 10 years. I made Harry’s pet owl, but he needs a cage. I have to try this! Thanks!
I don't know if you get enough credit for being so damn brilliant. Not everyone can think the way you do Allen, making really cool, realistic things out of almost nothing. This is awesome, thanks again!
Im not special in any way, I have just done this long enough to have trained my brain.
I totally agree these videos are so inspiring I cant wait to make some of this stuff
Well done. If you follow all your tutorials, I think you could really do a professional haunt on a budget. Gave me ideas for sideshow gaffs. Thanks!
I’m so glad you enjoy the videos! I’m really trying to build a nice library of techniques. Thank you!
I’m an old guy , thank you for waking up my creativity young man. I am hooked on your videos, dusting off all my shop tools and preparing to make stuff,

Loved it, very helpful for my haunted dollhouse tutorials. but the best part of this entire tutorial is when you said "it can hold a kid in it" lol
lol.... yeah well, I like making things that can multi-task. :-)
I found your channel today and IM HOOKED ! You are so talented , fabulous just freakin awesome!
Awesome cage amazing art and very cool tutorial thank you for the inspiration !

yeah we made six of them for a set, they needed to be UV actually.
This is fantastic! Something the kids could actually help me to make.
awesome!

cool, sounds great.
Wow!!! After spending 3 weeks with pvc, you show the easy way. Lol, Great Job 👍
sorry, I like this way because of how stable they are.
Buying a jigsaw just became my first priority in life thanks to this video. I really want to make two or three of these by Halloween! Great job!!!
Glad I could help!
This gave me the idea to use reclaimed rusty rebars to make the same thing
cool!
I love the voice over Allen, It's like Bob Ross had a newfound love for Halloween. :)
I record them so late my wife is sleeping, so I whisper talk lol.
Fan of yours for years. I love how you don’t over think it, you just do it!
I call over thinking Paralysis by analysis, not something I suffer from lol.
Another great looking prop Allen! So looking forward to being there in the shop where it all happens at Monster Camp 6!
For sure!!
Incredible!!! Is all I can say. Now I’m on the hunt for barrels. Just amazing. Thank you, Thank you, for sharing.
facebook marketplace and craigslist always have them
The pups are getting huge!!!!
its what they do- they eat and they chew things.
Freaking awesome Allen
Thank you, Brandon- I appreciate it and your support this year. Happy Halloween, Sir.
Your cage looks awesome... thank you for sharing.👍
Wow!! I absolutely love this idea. I think its a must try for me.
You should!

Very nice. I'd love to see the rivets dry-brushed with a ring of dirt at the base of each one.
yup, that would be good.
Thank you so much for these free videos
Glad you like them!
Absolutely awesome! Got to add this to my haunt. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yep, that could totally hold a kid!
its disturbing when you say it lol

Excellent job!!!! Going to have to try this, this upcoming Halloween. 🎃

We found them on Craigslist- people throw them away all the time, you might try there. Hope you can find one!

This is so cool! My one critique/question would be the lines on the inside for the bar contrast, shouldn’t they have gone the opposite direction of the ones on the outside?
yeah, I didnt notice till I was editing.
Lol, they're optical illusion bars... Simultaneously inside and outside the cage.
@@StacyHawkins M.C. Escher cage........
Still works
Great video and I loved the idea so much that I tried it. For the top of the cage, instead of cutting the pieces and drilling a hole through them, I left them in tact. Awesome job! Purchasing a barrel today! Let’s make stuff!
do it!
Note for those copying this project: Those inside 3d effect paints should make vertical bars on top, since the outside had horizontal bars on top.
yup, I was caught in the frenzy of crafting!

Thanks for this, I built one of these for Halloween 2021 and it turned out awesome; I always wanted skeleton in a cage prop but could not find what I as looking for, now i do :)

Great! Another fantastic project!
Thanks Hugo!
Have 3 barrels... guess I need to go make stuff!
you mean you have three hanging cages ready to be set free!
Very cool. Im gonna build a stand up version in metal one day!
sweet, until then here is a plastic one!
Loved it. Heading out to get a couple of drums now.
they become good looking props.
you can do the same with five gallon buckets, they are just smaller.
Awesome
We used ALL of our 5 gallon buckets making bucket buddies. But when we use up the latex might make a couple of those as well
Awesome better than store bought cage.
thanks Paul!

cool stuff! to test my theory I made one from a five gallon bucket, it worked well.
I was thinking the same. Wondering if I could use milk/ water jugs and some dolls or the DT skeletons
Amazing!!LOVE IT!!!

Do you use spray adhesive on all your plastIcs and PVCs before you paint them? Is this the trick for getting paint to stick to the surface better?
