- Today I'm playing through Batman on NES. It was published by Sunsoft in 1990 (North America) and it's one of my favorite Nintendo games. I'm playing on a Retro USB AVS.

Oh man! I remember playing this back in the days, the opening cut scene, the music, the color scheme, the atmosphere, one of the best NES games.... Famicom though in my country :)

Your 3rd person dialog, potty mouth, and self instruction make your play through truly authentic and hilarious! I can hear myself talking the same way to myself while playing whatever on my PS4, NES Classic Mini, etc. Doesn't hurt that you are easy on the eyes.

This game was just fantastic. The gameplay, the music, the graphics.. everything!
I remember as a kid thinking the music and the graphics in this game were so awesome. And man, all these years later, the music and the graphics still look great. A very early entry in the history of video games. It just shows that the time the NES was around was when video games began to become more complex.
I've been meaning to play through this as an adult, but watching you play is just as fun!
First time i played this game was on an NES emulator on my PC ten years ago. Having real retro games and playing them on original or good clone hardware makes for a better gaming experience in my opinion. The little robots are also in Batman game on Game Boy. This game does get tough in the later levels. Great video Erin.

I always found it weird that you lose a Batarang with each use, despite the fact that you clearly see it return to you.

This is in my Top 5 list. A tip that really helps in the Joker fight: in this game, when an enemy is blinking, it's you who is invincible to it. So when the Joker runs towards you, you gotta keep punching him! He will pass right through you ;)

Batman: The Video Game was one of my favourite games for NES. It was a very hard game, but still very fun to play. Awesome music and great looking graphics. This was a well done Batman-game.

Great video , amazing game. Batman is the general sense is my favourite thing in the world. I spent all my birthday money watching it eight times at the cinema. I remember my friend Ryan getting this game for his birthday and me flipping out. I didnt know how or when , but i did know i had to have this game.

Love this game and It's really my favorite nes game of all time based on my favorite movie of all time.
I don't think it's hard cause I've played it so many times without dying (400 times). The music is fantastic, the gameplay is tight and good, and the cutscenes are glorious.

I bought this game when it was new by saving my change in my batman coin bank that I got from a box of batman cereal back in the day. Still have it, still play it 30 years on.
This is my favourite NES game of all time. Perfect control, not too easy / too difficult and just awesome music and theme. Btw. saw your comment on Cinemassacre-video and found your channel that way. :)

I still think it has the best wall jumping mechanics for a 2D platformer. I don't know why other games haven't borrowed from it?

Nice video Erin. Played this game last year, really challenging and The Joker must be one of the hardest bosses on NES.
You got way farther than I ever did! Even if you lost to the Joker, simply reaching him is a massive accomplishment in itself.
I never beat this game when I was a kid. I tried it not too long ago after an eternity of not playing it. It was embarrassing. Hard NES game, but still so much fun to play. As for your question midway through, no clue when half the terms for things arose. I don't recall ever hearing or reading in say Nintendo Power terms such as "Farming", "Grinding", or calling genres such as vertical or horizontal shooters "Shmups". I think they came into use when retro gaming started becoming a thing in the mid 00s. On message boards or MySpace groups probably.

Batman on the Nes is a rare breed of good movie-videogame adaptations. Back in the day (1990) I used to play this game to death and it was one of my favorites on that year along with Ninja Gaiden 2.
Only Erin can make wall jumping with Batman look so cool 😎. Reminds me of Samus wall jumping on Super Metroid on the SNES.

Half way through this video and you've already gotten further than I ever can. Love this game. used to play it as a lad. Got myself a copy last year when on a nostalgia trip. It's one of the best NES action games and the music is so rad.

I beat this game when I was younger. It is really hard.. brutal. Love your videos Erin. Maybe you should do the mega man series next😊
2:26 so the reason why you press start to change weapons and select to pause is that it's much more awkward to press select with your right thumb, so most people would just press it with their left thumb, taking the thumb off the directional pad. So by doing this you can select a new weapon while moving.
This is my favorite nes game. Brilliant music brilliant gameplay. Its hard but you get to learn the way.

great job getting that far! i thought you were going to beat the joker, he is pretty hard. one strategy is that you have to jump over him shooting at you and use your punch like crazy on him.

Awe yes, Batman the Video Game for NES. I logged many hours playing it. Very good wall jumps Erin 🤘😁🤘. Timing and practice. One of many NES games I go back and play. On a good day, I can beat it with one man, no cheats. The trick to beating the joker is finding the sweet spot when he's bringing down the lightning. You duck and pummel the crap out of him, he'll walk right past you, no damage, rinse and repeat 😄
You definitely have the skills to beat the Joker. If you keep cool and time your jumps, you'd eventually have him.
8 bit heaven. When 16 bit came along it blew my mind as a kid.

This is one game I've never even played, but watching your playthrough makes me want to lol. Always been a huge fan of castlevania 1-4 and the original ninja gaiden trilogy.

One of the best NES games. The music track to the first level is on my music playlist that I still listen to.
The prototype to this game has cool additional & different cutscenes than the version we got. Also Firebug, who we fight right before Joker is the prototype's final boss. They included Joker for our version which I'm glad for.

My cousin used to have this game back when I was a kid and I remember playing it a couple of times and enjoying it, but I don't remember much past the first level, so I'm not sure how far we went in that game (but then again, we were just kids and that was many years ago :) )
I feel like the batarang should refill your ammo by 1 when it comes back to you, that would make sense, wouldn't it ? Much like the Quick Boomerang in Mega Man 2 !
Games like Batman, Castlevania 1 & 3, Shadow of the Ninja and Contra & Super C, have a legit difficulty curve which motivate you to become better at them, until you best them, completely.
First time I ever heard farming use in a video game was on World of Warcraft.

Attacks a guy which you can beat easily with your fists with Batarangs. That was actually pretty funny.

That wall jump you was having trouble with. You have to leap off the top platform and not the bottom. Just have to be quick. Loved the play through, very enjoyable.
In my personal top 5 for NES games. The music in levels 1 and 2 are so memorable. Contra and Felix the Cat are up there too. :)

The weapon select button actually makes a lot of sense. It allows you to change weapons without obstructing your movement.

This is a pretty good NES game. It kind of reminds me of the NES G.I. JOE games, which are also really fun. The music, control, graphics and gameplay are pretty darn good for Regular Ass 8-bit Nintendo. Soooo funny how when this came out is was "Soooo state of the art". P.S. I didn't read TOO many Goosebumps books, but that Green Slime, "Monster Blood", was my favorite. Werrrrd. Lol. "Batman, .. yer cray-zee."

You can do it!
I try to play fair with those annoying jumping enemies in that I let them start to move. It lets me feel good about myself. I try to move underneath them when they jump if they get too close. But I try to overwhelm them with boomerangs as quickly as possible to save life as well as weapon ammo. I can usually get them before they're close enough to land on me.
Batman is one of my absolute favorite NES games too. Top five easily, if not top three. And I agree, the wall jumping is just so much fun. It's just as much fun in Shinobi 3, which is another fantastic game, especially for those who like the NES Batman. This game has such wonderful music as well which is a big part of what makes it so good. Shatterhand is another great NES action-platform game that feels similar and is another of my favorites on the system. I assume you've played it, but I had to mention it. No wall jumping, but lots of punching, and fence grabbing. Good times!
That's awesome that you have the jumping enemies down! Sometimes I can do it, sometimes it's a total mess :p And Shatterhand is totally on my list of games to eventually tackle, as well as Shinobi 3. I have them down-ish. They can still get unruly from time to time. There definitely is a similar feel to Batman and Shatterhand. I have a feeling it was intentional on Natsume's part when they designed Shatterhand. Actually, it's worth pointing out that the Japanese version, Tokkyuu Shirei Solbrain(Solbrain...what a name that is) has a number of differences and is a bit easier. I'll keep an eye out for any videos on that or Shinobi 3. I liked your style on Batman and Shinobi arcade.

I never played this one growing up. Throughout the video it reminded me of something I'd played, and I eventually got it: Kabuki Quantum Fighter. I think Batman came first but I had Kabuki. Ever played that? Kabuki guy whipping stuff with his mane of bright red hair. XD

I never knew that you didn't have to duck to punch those little purple robots; I learned something today! In exchange, did you know that you can kill those ceiling robots that infinitely dispense the little ones? I don't remember if you can punch them or not, but when you're done farming, it's a good way to keep the hearts that you've earned.
If you're looking for cute robots, there's a PC game called 2064: Read Only Memories that's absolutely packed with them; my favorite is the cleaning robot in the hospital, but your robotic companion is pretty adorable, too! The gameplay is very similar to Shadowgate, but with more emphasis on conversation than on finding creative new ways to die. It's easily the best game I've played in a very long time.
I always forget that you can kill the ceiling robots! And thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to look it up if cute robots are involved :) Your food game recs were great, by the way!
