No really - it depends on your security policies
You can maximize your security but as long you are on the internet, there is no privacy. Your own devices are sending info out there like cookies and stuff

Thank You, sincerely, for not just exposing the countless things u do but for showing us what to do, in order, to protect ourselves from all the various wrongs u have exposed.
That's honestly the problem. Yeah I get experts and stuff are expensive, but most people just go "Oh yay, thing does thing now." and don't stop to set things up properly which causes problems. I'm all for DIY, but not for imprtant things. I know people who've gotten seriously injured because instead of taking their car to a mechanic they went "Pfft. I can buy the parts and do it myself." Great reporting, very informative. A real public service, thank you🙌
Hiring a security company that installs door & window contacts, glass breakage detectors is better than a live camera. I understand that people hate paying for a service but it’s safer than this. I pay $95 quarterly and if anyone tries to break a window or get into a door an alarm goes off so loud it’s deafening. Gives you enough time to grab your gun and protect your loved ones.
I wouldn't say that a security system is better. They have their flaws as well. A loud sound might scare someone away. But don't you want to know who is trying to break in? Don't you want to stop the person before they break in? And yes, the monitoring company will call the police. But all of that takes time. Who's walking up to your front door right now? Did you know three people are in your backyard? Glass breaks, the alarm goes off, and they're already in your home. How many people broke in? Where are they? Surveillance systems are safer. They, too, have alarms, and they're built into the camera. You're wasting $380 a year on outdated services. And people don't only use cameras for security. They also use them for in-home surveillance. Like if you want to keep an eye on a pet, babysitter, or an elderly family member. Home security cameras have come a long way in the three years since this video was made. And I think the lesson here is not to be goofy with passwords.
Luckily i dont have security cameras.. i have 5 dogs surrounding the house.. 😊😊

True. The worse are baby monitors. Anyone with a baby monitor picks up what's going on in the other person's house. It's like they speak to each other. The best privacy is not to have cameras and monitors get a dog and a tall fence or trees around the perimeters.
When ordering items online, certain stores, including grocery stores, sell giftcards. Never use my bankcard, only giftcards to order.
The problem is most people don't know or understand the technology. I'm an IT Network Specialist, I have cameras around (outside) my house that do not connect to the internet. I have a surveillance computer that records everything and that can be connected to the internet when I'm on vacation. However all cameras are on separate networks, everything has to go through the computer that gets constant updates to keep it secure. Even though I take precautions, as unlikely as it is, getting hacked is still a possibly. Hence no cameras inside my home. If you don't know what you are doing you should never let your tech have access to the internet.
Who needs the NSA when people put cameras and and listening devices in their own homes?
Two words....Hard Lines.
Dont make your house connected to the internet when it comes to things that simple enough are to do yourself. Intellectual complacency leads to a forfeiture of your security, liberty, and freedom.
But at the same time, if you are not connected to a cloud service and someone finds your camera storage, the evidence is gone.
I'm so sorry for those people who were voilated. I hope they justice and the rest of us people who depend on these devices to protect their Love Ones and property. Thank You for letting these people and the rest of the public. Great Job!!!
Being a Cyber Security specialist made me realize how easy is to hack normal people.
The best hacker-proof method is not to use over-the-cloud surveillance system.
The proper ones are called "closed-circuit" for a reason, as long as your system does not have the ability to connect to external networks, no hackers could hack in, no matter how hard they try.
Unless, they come to your place in person
The convenience of viewing your home while away is the reason why no one uses closed circuits. That's y a lot of ppl but IP cameras these days, for private broadcasting.
@Timothy Two Gun Thompson closed circuit would be good for robbers, they'll rob away that recording as well.
We (the people) will tend to find the easiest way to do things. "Being lazy"
I used to be a Telecom equipment installer and also installed satellite dish's on residences. A friend asked if I was going to install a security camera system would I choose CCTV or wireless? I told him I would install a closed circuit system, but it takes proper planning, installation of equipment & cable management to ensure any physical attack will be very difficult. I then heard his wife say that wifi cameras would be easier & cheaper. I told her that I agree with her statement & left it at that.
Once they got a system it took me and a friend sometime but we did manage to compromise their system. LMFAO.
Thanks. More research needed.
And they do! Go out. Someone with a cell phone is reporting your house is empty. Oh, those guys in green vests? They are just workers. Fixing leaks? Fixing street lights? Etc. PLEASE take this seriously.

@@johnsampson6387 thank u 😀
If your broke and can't afford these devices, then it's easy to say people are lazy to turn on light switch. It's more about convenience, technology, etc.. and ease of use. We have a 6 year old who is quite petite and it helps her to turn lights on as she just asks Alexa to do it. As for the door lock, we mainly picked that one because of the Wink app. Say my Mom stopped by and I wasnt home yet and its too cold/hot to sit out front I can unlock the door for her from where ever I am. Also, have you ever gotten into bed and thought "Did I remember to lock the door?" Now I don't even have to get out of bed and just shout "Alexa, lock the door". Overall it was just a fun experiment we did with Marketplace! :)

Yeah but it was done in the most intrusive manner. I get they need sensational footage for the show, but why confront owners with a camera pointed in their faces? I was in my living room and suddenly, but strongly, felt someone could see me through my phone. It was so uncomfortable that I had to place my phone down so only the ceiling was visible. Better safe than sorry.
Turn off your location services, notably the GPS radio/sensor. It is a serious drain on the battery anyway. Especially if you share photos on the internet, your photos should not have GPS latitude and longitude information. Photos can be downloaded, that data access, leading a stalker with turn-by-turn directions to your home.
In a moral and trusting world, that info might be useful. But in the current world, who on the internet needs to know where the photos were taken, as if your descriptions doesn't already tell them all they need to know? Is it not enough that photos are date and time stamped?
If your camera app has a relevant setting, tell it to not store any location info on your photos.
