    Oh thank you so much for this video. I've just cleaned some carpets and after spraying the ripples appeared before doing any actual cleaning. Problem is the customers are blaming me for the problem and won't listen to any other explanation.

      The backing in certain types of carpet will shrink when it gets wet while cleaning and then it relaxes again when it dries. The customer always calls after I've left the job and they never believe me when I tell them it will lay flat again when it dries. But it always does. Of course it shrinks because it's jute backed then there's no saving it.

    Well I have officially 1/2 of billion square feet cleaning surface area personally and 1.2 billion sqft in s supervisory capacity. What you said is correct about re-stretching, however there are certain cases where there is carpet delamination happening. this happens with very old carpet on the floor. I've done a lot of mid century floors with carpet 40+ years old. And that is a whole other issue. It is better to just replace however a lot of the older carpets I've done are wool based with often a burlap backing and a actual horse hair underlayment.
    You have to weigh in the actual cost of replacement based on wear and material used. But yes! good job on explaining what you do!

      Yes , I once had to buy 1600 square feet of new carpet because I made the mistake of turning on my vacuum to fast and it sucked all of my carpet off the floor immediately. I was dumbfounded, couldn’t believe what I witnessed.

    My carpet installers how much would you charge if you had a basement re stretch of 850 sqft. And had to re make 3 seams bc of the re stretching bc it was by passing doorways and creating other bubbles into other rooms which in return you had to stretch out those as well. now then on a 20ft by 4ft hallway you had to patch a 2ft by 2ft piece of carpet you had to cut out of the middle hall and re seam a new piece in. How much would you have charged.

    Help! I have 3 carpeted bedrooms and one without.
    2 carpets are probably quite old, 1 is 5 years old. 2 different kinds.
    I don’t use the rooms. There is almost zero traffic. Seriously, probably less than 39 steps in each of the rooms.
    This year, all 3 have ripples. The newest, largest one feels like it’s floating on the padding.
    The have never been cleaned.
    Why?
    I live in the desert, but the indoor temp only varies by about 10 degrees. They rippled during 60 - 70 degree weather.
    I’m on a slab. Maybe it
    I’m terrified. This can’t be cheap to fix.

    • @HowToCleanLikeAPro
      @HowToCleanLikeAPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The subfloor doesn’t make any difference when it comes to stretching carpet. But if it tack strip is loose and needs to be tacked back down or replaced you could run into trouble because the nails they install the tack strip to the subfloor with tend to blow out the concrete and it can be difficult if not impossible to get a nail to hold again. I’ve gone so far as to drill a hole in the concrete and screw the tack strip down with tapcon screws. But as long as the tack strip is good you shouldn’t have any trouble stretching the carpet

    Somebody please help ! I used to have a mini fridge in my one bedroom and on a couple of occasions spilled water trying to get ice cube trays in the freezer. My carpet has formed a buckle which is ( approximately ) two feet long and maybe a few inches wide. This never would have happened if my landlord installed a " normal / traditional " rug a few years ago. Instead the carpet resembles an office / commercial type carpet. I really need advise ( the mini fridge is gone ) but now I'm starting to trip over the buckle and temporarily moving all the furniture out of my bedroom isn't an option 😥

    A big box store installed the carpet in one room of my house. Became very loose in just a year and a half. I don’t remember seeing them use a long stretcher like in the vid, just the knee kicker. Had to restretch myself, as there was only 1 year warranty on installation.🤷‍♂️ That was the first, and only time I’ve ever gotten carpet from the big box stores. Now I stick to my local carpet place that’s been in business for over 70 years.

    • @audnbob1
      @audnbob1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@profloors147 I have to agree. I'm a 55 yr old woman. I recall my parent's getting new carpet when I was 10. To this day, it is still tight, not a buckle anywhere and has been vacuumed and shampooed more time's than I could count through the year's. Skip ahead now to our home here. We JUST had new wall to wall installed throughout the entire home through Flooring America. We moved all of the furniture for them to make it easier on them thinking it was a nice thing to do, as kicking is hard and we get it. However, when the two kid's showed up at our door about a week and a half ago, I knew it was going to go down hill because it was a young guy and his female friend. He was on his cell phone in and out of the house constantly the first hour. As soon as I was nice to them and down to earth, they ran with that. I tried to stay out of the way yet wanted to keep an eye and ear open because they were as playful together as a couple of toddler's. Clearly, he could not focus on what he was doing and sure enough,...it went badly. He left way early and left behind a HUGE seam that could be easily seen from the other room, as well as another issue (and more as of today). I had earlier asked if they used the stretcher's. He said, 'no, better to kick it.' Maybe,....if you're paying attention to your job?? Well, the 2nd day of install, two new people showed up and I said, 'thank God!' then proceeded to fall apart in tear's from the stress of the prior day. When they found out what had happened, then saw the results of it, one of them was on the phone to the owner immediately. They then had their head installer here in an hour to 'figure out how to fix it.' They did fix that but now, only a week down the road, we have buckle's showing in a few area's. Our living room is pretty empty as we tried to plan our new furniture delivery around the install of the carpeting to make THEIR job easier (which will NEVER happen again) pretty sick of being nice when you get this in return. So, the install has a warranty as long as the carpeting itself. Now, we have to deal with calling them to say hey,...your install is buckling already and we do have the furniture due here in a couple of day's. Don't even know how to feel at this point and they'd told my husband as he made the final payment to them,.... 'that kid is one of our best installer's, we don't understand how this could have happened? (like it was OUR fault somehow). Again, he and his little friend were too busy playing like toddler's and I'm sick to death of having to babysit people we hire and pay a lot of hard earned money to, to end up in these situation's. I'd go back to the old school day's in a minute. The 2nd crew of installer's knew their thing and knew we were not happy so it was all business and it shows, at least where they worked anyway.

      @profloors147 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@audnbob1 very sorry to hear that.. unfortunately, things like that seem to happen where I’m from as well… To sum things up, unless that carpet was restretched with a wall to wall power stretcher, you will most likely continue to see buckling in the near future. When I first started stretching during my apprenticeship, my boss always said is “if it’s bigger than a phone booth, don’t kick it in.” Nearly 2 decades later and I’ve realized what wise words those were. Watch out for what’s called a “spike” if you have it restretched as well. It’s a little “tool” that that connects to the back of a power stretcher. Make sure it’s stretched wall to wall, with poles.
