You're not hallucinating, there's thousands of others who agrees the same way. I personally fucking adore it to no end. They made a serene angelic robe flower dragon into a magnificent deep sea creature reminiscent to Namielle. And it fuses the water with *dragon* element. I couldn't ask for more
This Amatsu looks like it's a deep sea variant that you would encounter if MH brought back water combat~ It also 'visually' reminds me of Namielle! Like, can you imagine the 'base camp' being on an airship in the middle of the ocean, it's dark because it's stormy, and the waves are huge and crashing, and between the waves you see multiple colossal whirlpools dotting the ocean surface that's causing the waves to crash into each other, but just below you, as if it's the eye of a hurricane is the only spot of calm, seemingly unmoving water, and it's where you will have to enter. You interact with a sort of anchor that you will jump on and then be dropped into the water, and until you reach the ocean floor you will just watch as the waters around you darken as you get deeper, and every now and again, in the distance for brief moments are glowing colors that follow you. Finally a cutscene plays, you have reached to ocean floor, and it's pitch black,.. your character is then seen throwing 'or shooting' underwater flares to illuminate the ocean floor, and as they are doing so 'WE' see those same glowing colors except this time they appeared behind our hunter, and as our hunter move around throwing 'or shooting' the glowing colors move along with our hunter and 'WE' notice that it's getting closer,.. and finally, in the one patch of calm ocean floor yet to be illuminated, our hunter is face to face with the dancing patterns of glowing colorful lights, and as the final flare is thrown 'or shot' we finally see the Deep sea Amatsu completely visible, and it is not happy that we have just interrupted it's dance.
God this form of Amatsu is just gorgeous. Of all the element combos most people wouldn’t think dragon/water but damn it works well. And just think about how stunning this form of him and his dragon/water attacks in Rise’s art style would be with the watercolor like effect most elements have. I really hope he returns in Sunbreak and hopefully this version of him

I honestly prefer Amatsu's regular color scheme. The white and gold is just more unique than the red and black he gets in his "Frontier" mode. The blue underside does look cool though.
