Hyujikiki: The literal and figurative difficulty spike in Frontier's G Rank progression. And with pure genius build up. At first it starts off basic and easy, but then the defense mechanism kicks in and suddenly turns the battle into it's own unique obstacle course when the monster is in critical health. I personally love this fight. Also fun fact: Guarding the lightning strikes from the Highlands lowers your sharpness

Outside of poison and sleep I think all this makes sense. Hyuji is a very much later game threat so his moves being scaled up is just natural, if you were to take his base moveset he isn't hard to see as pretty believable if you were to just imagine him in low or high rank with a lower projectile count. All in all would deffo have this guy replace Sand Barioth's existence in mainline if possible.
The summary of this experience seems to be "Hmm well this doesn't seem too ba-WHY?! WHY DOES THIS EXIST!" Also second Cotton: "And not just the male goats but the female and child goats too! THEY WERE ANIMALS! AND I SLAUGHTERED THEM LIKE ANIMALS! Anyway let's go Master, I'm happy now."
Upon first seeing this monster, I thought that it was going to go full Iceborne/Rise barioth difficultly somewhat but after seeing that weather change display, it has definitely solidified that thought! Is this a case to say that the monsters from this point forward are going to go full Frontier?
You could balance it by making him like the lamprey/blood-draining monster from earlier. By that, I mean have his quills act like syringes. When he rages or gets low on health, he attacks any Gendrome, Iodrome/Great Wroggi or Great Baggi in the area with his back slam, then his quills temporarily have whatever ailment/status effect they had, with a color indicator on the tips (purple = poison, yellow = paralysis, blue = sleep).
This guy kinda reminds me of a porcupine Decepticon with quills that cause random 'status'. Like making Bumblebee act like a child, or cause hysterical laughing, or magnetized the other Transformer. He was also an extremist protestor and con.
As far as the feline Flying Wyvern goes...Hyujikiki is the best. He's Sand Barioth done right with a bonus of Nargacuga, he ADDS HIS QUILLS to his tornadoes! Can't get over him just flopping onto the ground to leave patches of pain behind. XD

There was no weather control. All creatures of the Highlands have adapted to fight *with* the brutal weather that exists there. The spikes are quills, so Nargacuga and Tobi Kadachi would be a more fitting comparison.

i imagine a cross breed between hyujikiki and nargacuga would be pretty cool. one i ability it could have is the nargacuga's tail slam with hyujikiki's tail spine blast so when it slams its tail and it gets stuck after a brief window for the player to hit the tail it blast the spikes in it's tail to get free. another idea could be that nargacuga's feather become thin like hyujikiki's spines but when it fires them they fan out making the attack range wider. idk how the naming scheme for hybrids works but i would call it nargajiki or hyujicuga. thank you for coming to my ted talk

From an evolution stand point, the reason things grow spikes/"armor" is they're REALLY low on the food chain. Turtles, porcupine, hedgehogs, crabs etc. So, I'm wondering if these guys have a exceptionally powerful predator. Besides hunters of course. Lol
