Thanks for the new info esp about disc sizes, had no idea! I'm an OCD reseller of all old stuff, so I'm very experienced at cleaning. Bestine is your friend. It comes basically in a gas can. Not cheap, wear gloves and no sparks. Instead of paper towels, try cotton rounds, they are great and cheap. Bestine is like magic glue remover. Instead of Lysol wipes, use name brand Windex sprayed onto blue auto shop paper towels. Squeaky clean finish with no residue & shop towels don't disintegrate. I re-use my towels and even cut them into smaller squares, very economical. Windex is great for just about surface that's mildly dirty.
That's Blue Gold your talking about, they use that stuff in mechanic's shops, eh? We'd steal it from them and take it back to our drills underground lol, better than rags, not as good as burlap though for gripping.
Thanks so much for the content. Since i found your channel its reignited my passion for my physical media. I have so much and its allowing me to get back into working on it. Appreciate you and your videos.
I usually just pull out my disc and then grab a yardstick…..😂 that works well for me when determining size. But seriously, my immaturity aside, this is TRULY a great and helpful vid. Absolutely love it!
To remove stickers with a heat gun or hair dryer use a small thin scraper when it's hot and slowly scrape the label off and it should also remove most of the sticky residue
It took me 90 minutes to remove all the stickers off the lenticular case for Meet the Millers (SO MANY STICKERS), but it turned out perfect. Thanks for the video!
💯 best way to remove adhesive is to carefully remove the sticker without tearing it, then use that same sticker and quickly dab it on and off the remaining adhesive on the cover. The sticker will slowly and safely pull the rest of the adhesive off. May have to do this for a while, but safer than any other method.
A good tip for removing sharpie marks and sticker residue is to use lemon oil applied to a q-tip. I just used that method to clean up a bunch of blu ray and dvd cases. Also, lemon oil is cheaper than Goo Gone.
I personally haven’t tried this yet. But they make plastic razor blades. I’m planning on trying them with a heat gun to get stickers and the re residue off of cases and slipcovers. Great video keep them coming!
Goo gone is the best adhesive remover , works great even on those lenticular covers, I also use a black sharpie for edges on slipcovers and cover art to keep it clean on corners and edges
I would not use a heat gun. Goo gone is the best way to remove stickers, residue. Q-tips, and paper towels are the tools to use. It will remove the most stubborn of residue and stickers.
I actually really like this video. It’s super helpful. That being said, can someone please turn this into a music video about him talking about rubbing it off, rubbing it out using your thumb and saliva oops😂 I just subscribed, you’re awesome.
I like using Goof Off and a microfiber towel for the marker on bluray cases and the last bit of sticker residue (being careful like you said) on cases and slipcovers. It doesn't work for CD jewel cases though, as the different plastic doesn't like Goof Off - it causes haze on the jewel case. I can maybe try the alcohol. Thanks for the tips, especially the bar code rings!
A couple ways I clean up permanent marker & remove stickers. Use a dry erase marker over the permanent marker , wipe and repeat until gone. I use a pocketknife at a slight angle to get stickers off. If it doesn’t all come off a little goo gone and use the knife and wipe away.
Great video man! I never knew the bar code trick till you mentioned it. Never had that plastic bunching problem bc slips go in the box haha. I do the simple clean, but one time I used rubbing alcohol very lightly and it took the paint too.
You can use lighter fuel, like the Zippo type, to spray on the sticker, let it settle in, and then they get rid of the stickers quickly. It works on certain stains too without damaging the cover.
You can also use Goo Gone (an orange oil based solvent) on water varnish (gloss finish) slip covers to remove sticker residue. I apply it sparingly dipping a Q-Tip then squeezing out the excess by pressing the tip on the bottle's inner rim... Let it work for 30 sec to about a minute, then blot the area with a clean paper towel. Don't use this method on matte finish slip covers as it will soak into the card, darkening the ink colours.
In the eco cases i cut out a piece of a 12pack box or a folder and put it on the inside of the plastic behind the art paper. It gives the case a little more support and not so thick of paper it makes it more bulky and thicker.
I use a little dab of goo gone to take the old sticker residue off. And when I take off a sticker form a new slipcover I use a X-acto knife. Just carefully use the knife to lift the edge. Just enough where you’re able to lift it yourself. I also put my movies with slipcover in plastic covers. It protects the movie over time.
For stickers i use lighter-gasoline… it dissolves the glue and you can clean it up as if nothing was ever on there… soak it and easily remove it without a trace…
If you don't have a hairdryer/heat gun nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, vodka etc dabbed onto the sticker so it soaks through the sticker (using a cotton bud is good) makes it easier to peel off.
As far as it goes for the Stickers on the Covers .... Lighter fluid works amazing. Just squirt a little on the sticker let it sit for about a minute that will dilute the glue then peel off. Repeat if needed You're welcome. 😊
A few years ago, half my DVD collection ended up under a foot of water in my basement. Crazy that some of the cases dried out undamaged, and some were totally destroyed. The snapper cases were obviously totally borked.
Taking stickers off like this i usually breath heavy on it and give it slight moisture and it come off much easier. Never heard of anyone doing it but give it a shot. Breath like you're saying "haaaa"
I would avoid using any type of solvent (like Goo-Gone) as it will remove some of the printing ink as well. I hate sticker residue as well, and what works great is spritz a little WD40 on the sticker, wait 5 to 10 minutes for the sticker to absorb the fluid. It will start to break down the adhesive and peel away easily. If all that's left is residue, apply a little WD40, wait a few minutes, then take a dry piece of paper towel and wipe it away in gentle circular motions. Works awesome! I also recommend removing the slipcover and just work on a hard surface (without the case or media inserted). This method also works great for those irritating stickers like barcodes that are stuck directly on the plastic overlay on the case. You know, the ones that are on the case and there is a die-cut window on the back of the slipcover? Those are the absolute worst!

Also there was a guy online that would actually put a piece of paper between his movie and the slip to make sure it slides without snagging..
About stickers residue, I have my grandma’s technique, and as weird as it might seem, it’s using olive oil… I tried on a dvd cover, just a bit of oil and a paper towel, rub it and it’s damn clean.
I done jacked up one time and wrote with a Sharpie on a white trailer display menu and my boss was furious. How you deal with Dust i have 3 dogs and 3 cats and i have to keep my movies in my living room for now and they usually get a thick layer of build up dust on them that's hard to wipe off because usually I'm up most of the time running around or at work between 8am and 4am and don't get much free time to just spend time dusting but every vacation or 4 to 6 months I take a few days off and I spend a few days dusting every shelf and case individually and was hoping there was a easier faster way
Yea it is! Lol a lot of people have said that in the comments so I bought some & have a video coming (hopefully this week) restoring more physical media with tips yall have suggested in the comments
If you have some permanent marker run over it with fresh permanent marker first. Then wipe it with alcohol. Running over it with fresh sharpie dissolves old one better than alcohol itself
Another trick to remove sharpie writing on cases is to spray some lynxx men's deodorant spray ( I think you guys in the USA call it axx ) then wipe off with a kitchen paper towel
I don't like stickers either use goof off. If it's just on plastic cases, it comes off some or harder to come off than others. Goof off takes sharpie off with no problem long as it's on plastic, not paper it will take it off the disc art to without any damage.
Anyone have any tips or tricks for removing those god awful color/number stickers that get plastered all over releases from the UK? More specifically on a steelbook. It's funny because I have OCD too and that actually keeps me from collecting slip covers. I'd rather have every movie have the same blu ray case look on my shelf. If every movie had slip covers, that would work for me, but since they don't, I actually threw all the slip covers I had away 😅
@@OliverGrandt I know a lot of collectors who do that too, I love slips but I’m not too ocd about having them for every movie, but if it’s a franchise & 3 have them & 1 doesn’t, it’s bugs me 😂
@thelastmoviestanding Yeah, that would bother me to no end. Franchises need to have a similar look. Sometimes, the actual style is different on the spine for like one movie and the rest is consistent... That's the work of sadists!
@thelastmoviestanding yeah and I take a q-tip and soak the tip with lighter fluid and rub it all over the top of the sticker and then pick a corner with my fingernail or sometimes a razor blade and depending on the size of the sticker, it takes very little time. Well, if you really wanna nitpick, it’s not the bottom or really the center, but just the “backside” of the disc lol the center backside
@@thelastmoviestanding My bad. You were not wrong. It was just my own bias on the meanings of terms like top/bottom, front/back and center when referring to a disc. My brain latched on to the center as a preferred point of reference. Thanks again.
That's what she said.
How you deal with Dust i have 3 dogs and 3 cats and i have to keep my movies in my living room for now and they usually get a thick layer of build up dust on them that's hard to wipe off because usually I'm up most of the time running around or at work between 8am and 4am and don't get much free time to just spend time dusting but every vacation or 4 to 6 months I take a few days off and I spend a few days dusting every shelf and case individually and was hoping there was a easier faster way
Goo gone is your friend for stickers 😉
I love rubbing it out a little bit, especially with dry hands!
I clean my second hand stuff with rubbing alcohol 👍 you could try WD 40 on stickers or glue
A lot of people have been saying WD40, never even thought to try that but I for sure will now
Halfway through the video an the amount of masturbation references are insane already lmao
Great video! Now I know how to rub it out
Another trick to remove sharpie writing on cases is to spray some lynxx men's deodorant spray ( I think you guys in the USA call it axx ) then wipe off with a kitchen paper towel
Hand sanitizer works great for sharpie or permanent marker marks
All the innuendos and double entendres, this ain't cornhub😂
I put my DVDs and blu rays OPP Plastic Bag for Standard 14mm DVD
Some. Of the bags fit over the slip covers too for added protection
Jim wasn't safe with the superglue also ouch!!!
@@HisNameIsRobertPaulson77 I thought about that as I was editing 🤣
All you need to take off glue residue is liter Fluid. Does the trick and doesn’t leave residue
I cannot stand those stickers but I don't want to risk damaging the steelbook and I have zero experience with these stickers. Anyone got any ideas for these eye sores?
The Exorcist slip needs some glue not damaged, you’ll see.
I totally forgot that was coming hahaha
Disc rot! I just got an email from the seller saying that the disc's are cloudy! This is from SHOUT. SOUNDS like disc rot. The dvd is RHODA first season.Anyone heard of this?
I have two blow dryers, no heat gun 🤣
you also have nail polish remover, heard that works too, don't have that 😂
@@thelastmoviestanding It's good for removing yellowing on old nintendos as well lol
“I’m just gonna rub one out here.” 😑 *Checks video url*
You have to junk the eko case for a proper case
@@TrevUk yea I hate eco cases
What’s the benefit of knowing what size the disc is? 😅
@@mrbrit6746 lol I actually get asked quite a bit how to tell the disc size. The benefit is just knowing if the disc is the best it can be or a compressed version to save money
Tips on collecting- Buy stuff you want. The End.
Facts!
Gonna go rub one out right now
I would remove the tape before heating the sticker, if you don't you are also heating the tape, not good.
Eco Case.... KAHNNNNNN!!!
Hate those cases.
@@Franksmediaandreviews they are the absolute worst!!!
I use Zippo lighter fluid to remove stickers all the time. It evaporates quick and don't damage.
@@cbcarmack128 i never knew that worked 🤯🙏🏻
@thelastmoviestanding yeah and I take a q-tip and soak the tip with lighter fluid and rub it all over the top of the sticker and then pick a corner with my fingernail or sometimes a razor blade and depending on the size of the sticker, it takes very little time. I also have used zippo fluid to remove sharpie marks also.
I’m taking half this video out of context and there’s nothing you can do to stop/save me!
