It's definitely a baked in issue I think, not a disc glitch, the director's commentary goes right over the double shot without interrupting. It's a cool helicopter shot, I guess seeing it twice isn't too bad. Maybe the director wanted the eagle to dive bomb her twice? 😅
I just contacted Arrow UK (my provider) and told them about this. My "cell" is on its way...we'll see, but if the master is wrong, all disks will be...Thanks for letting us know.
Thanks for the review. Haven’t seen this one so I might pick up during the Barnes and Noble sale. Also thanks for showing the disc error. Helpful to know - not a deal breaker for me.
I’m so excited to get mine. I still own the DVD, never upgraded to Blu-ray and I’m glad I held off, this release looks fantastic. Hoping Arrow does in fact send out replacement discs for anyone that has the error.
Just now picked this up. It’s a favorite that i just don’t seem to watch as much as others. Maybe because the imagery sticks in the mind. Does the error appear in the theatrical cut as well?
Here is video context/proof comparison between the WB bluray and the Arrow 4K. Missing frames and duplicate shot with the error. th-cam.com/video/_kas3bKn188/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hwhV4eg--MGm1Fd7
There's 3 cuts of the movie. Theatrical and Director's on the 4k disc and an unreleased version of the Theatrical on the bluray and, finally, the special features disc.
Arrow never responded when I emailed them about their release of Hugo lol. On the 3D disc, for the right eye they used the 2D version instead of the actual right eye, so the stereo image is warped incorrectly and is cropped to a different aspect ratio in each eye 😭 The original Paramount 3D Blu-ray is correct luckily, but Arrow never fixed Hugo... I guess because 3D is obscure and most people don't notice, but man it is so bad.
Very good review, thank you. I hate that the disc error is somewhat overshadowing your other opinions and analysis, but the good thing about these reviews is they will be relevant long after manufacturing issues are resolved.
The problem is they never tell you when the editions in stores or online is the fixed version. I still don't know if they ever fixed the issue with DONNIE DARKO or if they just didn't recall the flawed versions that went out to stores.
I ordered mine from The Atomic Movie Store and received it on the 6th. Idk why but I'm not complaining. Maybe certain brick and mortar stores had priority over big conglomerates? Idk.
Misss opurtunity from arrow video like always not getting the main actors involved No new interviews with Jennifer Lopez and Vince caught and Vincent 😡😡🤬😡😡🤬😭😭😢😢🥺
@@RobertQuant there’s very little chance that they would come back for this. There isn’t enough of a budget to get those stars to come back and talk about their experience
@ it’s only 3 actors 😀😀😀 it’s not like it’s a big budget movie I mean Jennifer Lopez is a busy actress she’s everywhere she’s doing everything I’m pretty sure she would of love to make interviews for the cell I mean she is the main star of the movie as far as Vince Vaughn goes he hardly makes movies any more so I’m pretty sure he’s not that busy

With the main stars Stallone and Wesley snipes and Sandra bullock
I was just at Barnes & Noble this afternoon and saw it on the shelf. I am glad I didn't pick it up.. I picked up only Trick R Treat and Inglorious Bastards in 4K. Inglorious bastards 4K supposed to be sold out at this location but they had 2 copies out to sell. I almost gave up. I bought a copy.
Worse error I’ve experienced on a disk is on the film “Visitors from the Arkana Galaxy” released by Deaf Crocodile. The subtitles are closed caption. Got that? You turn on the subtitles and you get closed caption with sound descriptions and all. What made this purchase worse is that Deaf Crocodile argued that this was intentional so they could be more inclusive. When I pushed back, because this was obviously a disc error, they resorted to slander. When I talked to them on the phone and I called them out for scapegoating the guy broke down saying how they were only two people running the company. I told him they should have said that originally. It’s unfortunate but I hope they learned their lesson because Deaf Crocodile is definitely a label we should all be shopping.

The cell is an underrated masterpiece.
While they haven't made an official announcement, Arrow has responded to emails regarding the error saying to look for an announcement in February.
Thanks for the review. Haven’t seen this one so I might pick up during the Barnes and Noble sale. Also thanks for showing the disc error. Helpful to know - not a deal breaker for me.
That "error" was also on the DVD - I'm curious who is calling it an error, as it's been there for almost 20 years...
They had the same type of error on their 12 Monkeys release. Arrow does great work, but this kind of thing shouldn't keep happening.
I’m so excited to get mine. I still own the DVD, never upgraded to Blu-ray and I’m glad I held off, this release looks fantastic. Hoping Arrow does in fact send out replacement discs for anyone that has the error.
Arrow is looking into it.
Donofrio had a similar haircut in The 13th Floor.

If they'll do a disc replacement, I'll buy it. Nothing I haven't dealt with before.
They're usually pretty good about disc replacements. They've had some practice after all. ^^
Not with the donnie darko standard version...
The directors cut issue is also in the blu ray edition too.
Not the WB bluray. But the Bluray from Arrow yes
Cancelled my pre order, shame.
Cancelling now
When you purchase something touted as the definitive edition of a film or the director's intended vision, that vision has to be correct.
Arrow are really slipping. I found a "file transfer complete" MacOS sound effect halfway through their recent Critters blu.
That's like the Kid Cudi vinyl that has an iPhone screenshot noise during Pursuit of Happiness.
I got my the cell last friday

Sooo this glitch is only happening on the directors cut disc 😮😮😮
35mm film, naturally has 4K resolution, so originally, the theatrical version was the best the film would look until the 4k release.

If there is an error I think that is a deal breaker but I’m sure arrow will fix when they find out about it.
This is my favorite performance from Vincent

@@bleachedwhale that’s what I was gunning for with this review. It’s such a solid review besides that minor blemish.
I’ve never seen this. I’m interest cause of Vincent and Vince Vaughn.
I hope the error isn't baked into the master provided by the director of photography.
The Warner Home Video Blu-ray has the 109-minute director's cut and it doesn't have that error.
@BoysBearsandScares But that doesn't use the master provided by the DOP.
My movie came in a broken case Why is it so difficult to get in touch with them?
Waiting to get this until I’m sure the disc flaws have been fixed and redistributed.

Have you seen Existenz? That's a better comparison because it feels more like a video game world than a real life simulation.
How are people getting the cell early it don’t come out till next Tuesday December 21

What’s the best way to know you have the proper disc. Will it have different serial numbers?
I usually use a mini-post it note on a white sleeve that says "original. error." and put the replacement one in the case itself.
