Being nice is more likely to get you free/cheaper things. There was a thrift store near me and the guy who owned it and worked there had it open one day while I was hanging out by myself in town. I walked in and it was *trashed.* I helped the guy out with going through about half the building and talked with him a lot. Found out that he had been in the hospital and the 'friends' he asked to work at and man the store while he was in the hospital didn't really care and they trashed the place. They had apparently refused to help him out as well, and I was happy to hear he had dropped them as friends. After awhile, he had asked me if anything caught my eye and I had mentioned liking the fur hats he had (I thought they were faux/fake fur tbh, I hadn't touched them or gotten super close. They were real fur though, which maybe I should have realized with how nice they were.) He went over and grabbed the softest looking one and brought it over to me and asked how much I would be willing to pay for it. I said something like $10 and he told me it was free and gave it to me. I helped him close up the store and I haven't seen him since. The store hasn't been open anytime I've been in town again. The price tag on the hat said $36 and I still have it. It really is the softest fur thing I own and it's still my favourite fur I own :D!

The promise ring story pissed me off. "Only 70$!!!!" I was engaged to with a 30 dollar ring. 30 bucks. Engagement not promise, but you know what? I was fuckin ecstatic because it was my favorite stone (Lapiz Lazuli,) it fit perfectly despite not knowing my ring size, it was in a style that I absolutely adored and everyone and their mother thought the ring was gorgeous. The amount of confidence boosting compliments that I got felt incredible and I felt like..while it wasnt very expensive and he admitted that, the ring represented who i was as a person and I adored the amount of effort he put into getting it just right despite not having a lot of money to spend on it. Some people will never be grateful for anything, and it shows.

    • @serbiansleeperagent
      @serbiansleeperagent 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@gadgetsage yup, gold is actually rarer than diamonds because it is theorized that gold came from outer space via space debris and asteroids, which explains why we only find it near surface layers. Diamonds are a naturally occurring variation of carbon which is so abundant that all life on earth is carbon based. You can thank the De Beers for having a grip on the nutsack of the diamond market.
EDIT: In addition, diamond prices really demonstrate how most people base value on the material itself rather than the value of how its formed or harvested.

As awful as the story about the person looking for a free wedding photographer is, the person that agreed to do it for free is even worse.
They made it clear they put no value on the time, effort, skill, or talent of the professional taking the photos, they defended their entitled position and called the people trying to help her understand rude. She's clearly an entitled monster. But what's worse than that is the enabler who taught her that her actions were acceptable and made sure she would NEVER learn her lesson. That's why we have such a ChoosingBeggar problem, because people enable them, reward them, or give into their tantrums. You have no one to blame but yourself if you choose to do that. And you're not only hurting yourself and hindering the growth of these stunted babies, you're hurting everyone around them who has to suffer because they choose to enable them.

@Crima art (my dear friend) has been around for so long and built such a community that if she didn't put limits on her auctions it would've gone way higher howev that may not be what someone wants.

Think it through, speak to people about it and grow from it. The choice you make now for that doesn't need to be permanent and can be changed at any time... (just keep in mind that when someone has paid... that's not the time to change things as thatd be scamming)

I remember getting hounded for a lower price on my art.
I don't charge money, because I don't have a banking account set up yet (as I'm a teenager) to even receive money. I said this multiple times before they got the message. I spent a good three hours on a completely shaded pfp of their character (which had a fairly complex design) for their account, and when they posted it, they clowned and criticized my FREE artwork that I put a lot lf time into. They complained that the lighting wasn't like a friend of mine's, that my proportions were off (a part of my style, which they were aware of as they sent me a piece of mine to reference for a clothing piece they wanted their character to wear), and just straight up were being extremely rude.
They then went to one of my friends and hounded them for free artwork, saying that since I draw for free and did such a bad job, that they should refund it. My friend is much more lucky than me and had her parents set up a bank account for her, so she charges money (a redo of MY piece would've costed CB around $35). After not getting their way, CB started harassing us both. And then we mass reported them and all their stuff was taken down. Happily ever after ^^

As somebody who does do these things, it’s precisely because of these reactions. When people say “Aww, you didn’t have to do that for me!”, that’s why I do them. I’m bored, and giving someone a bit of joy in their lives isn’t going to hurt, is it? It’s usually not that much anyway, and the prime function of that is to make sure you remember them. People usually hang on to the bad memories, wishing for something else. If you provoke negative reactions, like guilt, people will hang on to those memories longer, and thus, remember me for longer.

The amount of entitled beggars that waste all their money spoiling themselves on luxuries instead of buying food and then act like some hotshot that is owed the world at a foodbank was the definition of idiotic.

Listed two different cards at or around $500 and got about 25-30 responses before one guy bought both of them. Everyone in the middle was a clown trying to get them for less than 20 dollars and some of those "negotiations" were pure gold. Here are 2 that I can remember that stood out
1.) Had one guy who fed me two different stories on both of the postings but he didn't realize that I was the same person selling both cards until I said the exact same unique thing in both of the chats within seconds of each other. At that point, I think he knew he was caught trying to dupe me cause he ghosted.
2.) Had a lady tell me that she was so excited about finding one of the cards that she got into a car accident and I should help her out with a low price (free) cause she didn't have car insurance.

At 39:05 CB legit tried to sell a 15 year old television thinking that it didn't work, and he still tried to sell it. Like what did CB think the buyer was going to do with the monitor? Add it to his robust collection set of monitors?

19:44 I was once in a similar situation, differance being i was about 20 cents short, and not 3 bucks. The cashier was nice, considering i was really young, and offered to pay the 20 cents. I will never forget this act of kindness and it has inspired me to be nice and helpful to people who need it.

I want people in these situations to just go: "fine, I am sending this to r/choosingbeggars. Swear all you want, complain all you want, I won't have a choosing beggar to move me out of my current position. Oh and to add the cherry on top, I won't be seeing your messages until you accept what I instruct you to do. Thank you."
