Because of you helping Abby, I now communicate my feelings more often instead of only reacting. I hear you saying 'use your iPad, talk to me' and imagine my own talking menu in my head and pick from those simple phrases- 32yr female autistic.
It seems like Abby understands everything. I guess since she's non verbal...I'm SO curious about what she's actually thinking. She's so amazing and so sweet!!❤
@@georginacat7667 huh I didn’t say anything about fact I said factors lol. Idk what you’re talking about. There are things can affect people like a full moon and he has said that full moon can affect autism
@@aliciabellante6643Absolutely agree!! I worked in group homes working with adults for 12ish years...A full moon definitelyyy effects moods and behaviors for sure!!! 💛
Watching Abbie and how you take care of her teaches me how to care for myself and my potential future kids (autism is passed down in the family and both me and my fiancée have it)
Hey!! Many autistic people myself included also deal with alexithymia which is a struggle to connect feeling to both recognition of feeling and source or reason. So I can be stomping around my house and have a family member be like “what is wrong with you??” Long before I even realize I’m upset. Then it can take a while still to figure out what made me upset. I’ve heard you say before that she every once in a while will randomly lash out and I was thinking that sounds like alexithymia also. I will sometimes randomly get so upset about something I genuinely thought I was fine with or over like a year ago. It’s just only then did I realize I’m hurting over it as much as I am. Hope that helps shed some light! ☺️
What an amazing insight from verbal autism to non verbal. That's powerful and can aid those families that can't speak for their self. Ty for sharing this.
Also forgot to include, it also causes an issue discerning between physical sensations and emotional feelings. So for example, I am hungry can genuinely feel like I am angry and you don’t know which is which.
That’s so interesting. And eloquently described. Do you find it easier to write your thoughts and feelings than to speak them or are you equally gifted. A dear friend’s daughter has apraxia and is a phenomenal reader speller etc but spoken language is more echolalia than spontaneous speech. Again we ALL are so different in skill sets. Just wondering if the emotional disconnect you describe here is easier to broach via written communication?
Hi abbie and family,we had rain here today in st Louis its rain all morning on and off till afternoon,i love when it rains cause its makes you sleepy, hope y'all are having a wonderful thursday and stay safe out there ❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗
Priscilla, Sounds yummy!....Asa's right, you are creative...I follow the recipe on back of can of green enchilada sauce for chicken enchiladas.....super simple and you add cream cheese and green chilies and shredded cooked chicken...You can add spices to it to make it your own....Wrap in flour or corn tortillas and sprink and pour another can of green sauce on top and sprinkle cheese on top....Bake at 350 until cheese is melted and bubbly....
That recipe ,meal ,cooking slot looked fantastic, when it came out of the dish and you said shut your mouth my tongue was under it I could feel the food on it .🤤👏😀👍Thank you .
I use the green chili sauce blended with cream of chicken soup and a little sour cream for my chicken enchiladas! The cheese varies, but i like using Monterey jack, or Colby jack.
I have a recipe I lovingly call "White Girl Enchiladas" it's one from the 70s with canned soup. Cream of chicken soup, 1C sour cream, shredded chicken. Heat that, spread a little in the tortillas, add cheese and roll. Then, any extra sauce goes over with cheese on top and bake. If we're feeling spucy, I add the canned chiles. Now I want that!
We are working on not gaining weight which is important for our health and for being alive for our children. We then work on losing the next 10 lbs as a goal. It is slowly being reduced as we are not crash dieting. We have comfort foods periodically so we don’t feel so deprived and angry. Friends who don’t see us often have noticed the difference. Peace to all. Wish we had Priscilla cooking for us. 😍
Enchilada recipe sounded delicious…. A great recipe for enchiladas is buffalo chicken enchiladas. I am not a red sauce fan, but loved the buffalo chicken ones. I also look a recipes for ideas, but do them my own way. 😊
Is this program associated with the school system? Here in MN - after typical ‘senior year’ - there is an extended program via public schools/district for up to four additional years which sounds a lot like what A is doing in her new program this year. Firmly rooted in life skills … prep for part time work etc. - of course specific to each student/young adult. Is this similar or the Florida equivalent? Since it’s part of the public school program it’s also paid for. Really interested in all options for young adults - for the transition from school to work Story/life skills/college type programs with lots of scaffolding (all of course, dependent upon specific person) … it just takes so much research to find the few programs that might be available. And so varied depending upon what state you live in … whether rural or urban. I have friends who’ve needed to send their young adult children to other states to find a program following high school. It’s such a critical time … I feel like I’m the world of disabilities - there are tricky times - diagnosis/finding therapy … puberty … ‘graduation’ and post high school options is another … which also hits at same time as guardianship/legal matters/health care and financial control… living options. And as with everything in life; the more we can share information with each other - the better off we all end up. Thank you for sharing what works and sometimes doesn’t work, for your family. It’s a very generous thing to do. I appreciate people who recognize that hoarding information to yourself doesn’t keep resources protected for you/your child and family … it actually restricts knowledge and options for everyone - it’s not a pie with only so many slices … the more we share with each other and support each other and trade ideas with each other - the more accessible the world becomes for everyone. ☮️ the chicken-bell pepper enchiladas looked amazing!!!! I bet that’s a dish which is tasty as leftovers too!
Cilla your creative IMO in many ways. YOUR STYLE (my fav. ;) ), cooking, decorating and just the way you speak and come up with ideas... your very creative!!
My white sauce on chicken enchiladas is sour cream based. Make a roux then add 2 cups chicken broth stir a couple minutes till thickened then add 3/4 cups sour cream and a 4oz can green chilies
I was wondering if you know why autistic children keep their head down? My son drags his on the floor sometimes and it frequently looks like it weighs 20 pounds.
Those enchiladas looked amazing. I haven't been watching very long, but I see a big improvement in Abby. She is a lucky girl to have such a wonderful family. Love from NC.
Me too. I'm originally from San Diego so didn't really experience thunderstorms. Then I moved to a place with monsoons every summer. The very first summer our house got struck by lightning so now I'm terrified of thunderstorms. I already have severe anxiety so that doesn't help. Every storm my friends are trying to tell me it's ok, it won't happen again. They even do the counting thing after lightning and say it's so and so miles away. But it's been 24 years and I still freak out during storms.
I love your videos!! Longer ones are even better 😉. Thank you for letting the TH-cam community get to know and have fun with Abby day in and out. I love watching Isaiah interact with his sister. It's a look into the flipside. My brother is high functioning Autistic so I grew up with it as well. As a sibling, sometimes you feel isolated and alone. BUT - I WOULDN'T HAVE MY BROTHER ANY OTHER WAY!! You can see that between them as well. ❤
Cil we need a cookbook girl!!! I will never not be impressed by Abs continued growth in communication. She has come so far ❤ I'm so bummed. I fully expected the dance party to be an after the beep! 😅😜
Kiziks shoes might work well for Abbie. You put your foot in and the back pops up and you're in. I've had both hips replaced and I love my Kiziks. Just a thought.
Many times these intense emotions and feelings are her hormones as a teenager. Teenagers are very highs and lows of hormones and how to deal with all the feelings that come with hormones. Funny that Audible book I am reading is for me to help my granddaughters through these same issues.
Hey I have said that we needed the rain when it rains since I was a kid. So don’t call us old. I’m holding on to 39 for as long as I can.😂😂😂The fact that I don’t have grey hair yet helps. And I can get off the floor without grabbing onto the couch or whatever is near my reach.😝
I have never made enchiladas with a red or white sauce...it's always a brown beef sauce. A white one would be interesting, now I really want enchiladas lol
?🧐What do you mean? She no longer wears harness it’s just a regular seat belt. On the chest strap there is a red “I have non verbal autism” thing in case of an accident so that it notifies the first responders. She used to have to be in a full on booster seat with a 5 point harness. Then asa installed a 5 point “racing harness” in the car to eliminate the need for the booster as she would unbuckle the seat belt whenever Priscilla was driving making it super dangerous. However I believe when they got their new car (the new one before this new one), it obviously didn’t come with the harness, but before nada got around to installing it they noticed that she stopped doing that behavior. Then she started always pushing the button so that the belt would unbuckle . They would prompt “put back on ur seat belt” but she would just hit the button again over and over eventually bringing back the behavior when villa was driving and just doing it to be naughty. so they got these plastic things off Amazon that go over the push button so that she was unable to keep pushing it, unbuckling her seatbelt. When she started riding without the harness summer was teaching her how to buckle her own seatbelt when getting in the car and now I’m pretty sure that she buckles it on her own with no problem. 😊
