I love how this video very much feels like a “How to be a great father tutorial”. The communication and patience you show Abbie is not only perfect for her but it shines through in Isaiah. I see so much of you in the way he moves in life. You’re doing an amazing job Dad (& Momma Cilla too!) ❤
That was VERY AMAZING to see her try to use her shirt to wipe her face. That’s a cognitive skill; she’s like maybe if I use my shirt, it’ll get cleaned off. It may not have worked but my that was the cutest and most amazing deal!!! Coming from an Autism mom, every little thing is major! ❤️
I have never heard Abbie do her fish lip stim for so long, she really was enjoying herself. Just this morning I happened to make that celery /peanut butter snack with my grandsons. We use blueberries on the bodies, a raspberry for the head, and I know you didn't have them but what we do is take this a tiniest bit of peanut butter and put raisins on for the eyes we call them yummy bugs. Messy fine motor skill fun! Keep up the good work Dad you're being a great teacher
This was an awesome video, and you did a great job as teacher today! The love you have for Abigail was palpable throughout this video, great job Dad/teacher!
This is so cool watching your day with Abbie. As a home care nurse I’ve taken my CP young adults to life lessons classes that also had Autistic and Downs adults and it’s so cool seeing you do the same things with Abbie. I wish there were more parents like you and your wife. So many parents will let them do whatever at home and they never knew what their child/young adults were able to do bc even though these kids/adults have a disability they are also smart.
That's the joy of homeschooling. Make the schedule around what works for you and your family. Our kids usually only schooled from 9 AM to 12 PM. They got all of their school work done in 3 hours a day because we didn't have to wait on a class of kids to catch up. You, as her parent, knows what works best for her. Great job! We homeschooled for 24 years.
I love how when you guys are making the snack, when you are showing an example for her, she shows that she is paying attention and learns by putting her hand over yours.
I like that Abbie keeps going to the drawer. It shows she knows that's part of setting the table. It might be a bit regressive, to put it all out for her, if she already knows where to get stuff :)
I was a nanny for 13 years. A year of that time I was an aid for a young lady who's been in an accident had brain damage and loss of all mobility from neck down. People don't understand the patient and understanding you have. The love you show your daughter for having that patience and trying and trying again no matter what to make her better. It's beautiful to watch truly.
ASA, you are the epitome of a DAD. You are so patient. I had such a great laugh with you and Abbie. My name is Dunkin Donuts. LOL She is so amazing!!!!! I love your whole family!!😻
No you are a really good dad. The love you have for Abby just flows out of you. I think you are a much better Dad than you were maybe two years ago. For some reason there's a difference to me. I've been watching for a long time and I really enjoy your videos, thank you.
Asa I loved this vlog. ❤️ I did homeschooling for a year and it can be extremely difficult yet so rewarding. I could tell you felt comfortable and in your zone with her. Great work!! You've got this. Also try the Colgate re: collection. Cool bottles, great flavors, and a more gel like paste with a different glide because of bottle design.
You could put rectangular placemats, even colorful ones she chooses, so she knows where to place everything much easier. With cutting it would be more natural if she places it then pulls towards her to saw the food rather than her pushing away. Just helps with natural movements when it works in your favor. And like utensils that are easier for her to use, like smaller tongs so she can have more control and a better grip when fishing out what she needs.😊 the peg board is brilliant. I don’t know if you made that, or if it is something you bought and multipurpose sit, but that’s something that could help many learning to cut, etc for use in culinary areas along with other areas of life
I absolutely love the idea of you being her teacher! Plus I love the the new content of watching you work with her. I use to love watching the videos of watching abbey learn and doing things like putting up groceries and such. I love seeing how far she comes! Its amazing! Watching these videos and y'all working with her on her name and saying Hello... you can totally see that she has the same sacrarium as like you and Isaiah and I love it! I can tell by watching the video that she knows the information your teaching, she's just like "yeah dad I know, so I'm going to push the button 100 times so you stop asking".... I really love seeing this type content, your able to catch these moments that many of us don't get to see. Which is Abby's true happiness with her family!!!
The smile that Abbie gives when she is doing the tiles, is like she is saying “Dad, I have the right tiles on the right spot but I don’t really care if it’s not in the right direction.” Lol. Thank you for sharing your families day.
Love to see the progress in the kitchen! We have been most successful with that cutting board when we put a piece of Dycem underneath (stops the movement -promotes independence). Great job!
Asa, I starting watching Abby 5 years ago when you were still in the old house. I don’t have a autistic child but you have educated me about autism so much. I cried when she was saying her name on her device. A little tip try putting a wet rung out wash cloth under the cutting board it should give it more grip. I am a chef and we use this in the kitchen all the time. Another way to sent her up for success is put a couple of scoops of peanut butter in a small Pyrex dish so she can get it better and she will know she uses that all up.
Love this video. Loved when Abbie pressed Dunkin Donuts for her name lol. The most popular incentives for Abbie are food, music or going for drives especially in the cart. Maybe have Abbie help make small pot of fruit, veggies, nuts or a special drink etc then maybe use those has incentives to reach the goals then expand the steps to reaching the goals has needed. Blessings to you all.
Abbie rocking her Billy Bong shirt doing an outstanding job staying on task. Asa, I have a new found respect for you. I always thought you were an awesome dad, but this video showed just how dedicated and patient you are with Abbie.
Loved the longer video, I can never get enough, Abby reminds me of a student I worked with as her school aide for 4 yrs, miss her terribly. I'm curious what you were talking about when you saw a vehicle & said "there are 2 of them" ? You guys are the best parents!
Asa: What's your name? Abbie: Dunkin Donuts. I absolutely just died laughing at how cute yet sassy that answer was for her. True teen. 🤣🤣🤣 You need to make just a clip of that part for TikTok or TH-cam Shorts so that I can just replay it on days i need a little burst of happiness.
Does Abby get distracted by music? Like wind chimes and birds singing? I also hear an owl….or some kinda bird. Maybe that is why she keeps looking up? Might be scared of birds? Or bigger birds.? Just a thought. There’s a waterfall sound. And her dad is totally having the time laughing at her. Lol I haven’t caught up on all the videos yet…but so far. She seems happier than even last year. You are doing a great job! Editing has vastly improved since covid as well! Send love from 🍁 🇨🇦 ❤
It's awesome to see Abbie's growth. She let you wash the shaving cream off, even though the water started off a bit cold. That alone is awesome. It is pretty amazing to see how much Abbie is excelling.
He should show more of what Abbie is made to do vs just talking about it. He could get a lot of helpful suggestions from his viewers who have a lot of experience as well with autism. It might make Abbie’s like a lot easier. He can just ignore the judgy a holes or those just hate watching.
I appreciate how you explain things. I wish when I was previously direct support. They explained what stinking was. Or sensory needs were. I appreciate when you explain these.
Try adding couple drops of food coloring to the shaving cream when teaching stirring, seeing the results of it mixing will help....also maybe not as much in the bowl - easier to stir contents...Also a adding a rubber band to make a visible fill...Abby can touch and see
You are correct however Asa addresses this in another video and said that it wouldn't work as the board isn't meant as a chopping board and it could absorb the water ruining the board. I think that a grip mat that you can pick up for cheap will do the trick as it makes the task harder since the board is moving all over the place. I hope this answers your question.
This is one of my favorite vlogs! You can tell Abbie is learning so much! It helps that it’s her daddy teaching her! That apple cutting was amazing! She knew that she had to put in a little more effort into cutting the apple! I know that I’ve edited this twice but I’m so far behind on vlogs because of the hurricane and losing internet! I hope the Brazee’s are okay! I’m going to go lo Lauren’s channel and watch the vlogs
i vote Abigail as Dunkin Donuts best posterchild ever - thanks for the big lol Abbi girl❣️i will never forget that heartwarming moment with her tender loving Daddy
I really enjoyed the longer video today. You really do have a gift with teaching Abbie. I loved the moments of humor, too…especially when you asked what her name was and she answered with “Dunkin Donuts.” 🤣 I feel like sometimes she is totally messing with you and has a bit of a sense of humor peeking out. You can see it in her smile…a bit of mischief in it. 😂
I know you have taught her for years because I watch your videos. 😁 I agree. Having a reward even if it is just very high praise.sometimes really works. I always tried to find something to praise the kids for.
When Abby was cutting the celery .. it reminded me when the kids would use those wooden Velcro fruits and veggies they sell .. where you cut through the Velcro .. I’m thinking now this was a way kids can learn cutting throw foods … hmmm lol. Great job Abby! AmazIng dad ❤️
Question: When you were working on "hello" and things, after the horn honking, you asked Abbie to look up high, low and raise her arms, was this done to help redirect her back to the task you were working on? Or was it something else? Sorry for asking, I just recently got custody of my neice who is on the spectrum and I am rewatching your videos more closely to see if some of your ways would help is! Thank you
Yes, exactly. It’s called a compliance drill. Easy things that she knows how to do so we can set a pattern of “ok, I’m going to ask you to do these things and then you do them” then you follow it up with the task you’re actually working on.
Regarding the more runny toothpaste, Basically you want to look for a liquid gel toothpaste. It comes in a small plastic squeezy bottle. So it looks different to all the other toothpastes that come in a tube. The 2 brands that I know of are Crest and Colgate. Both Walgreens and Walmart sell them.
A lot of parents would just do these things like making snacks for their child whether on the spectrum or not because it's easier, less mess and quicker. I do admire how Asa takes the time to teach and let Abby do these things with the help needed. At this point the thing that will most benefit Abby is learning life skills. For example stirring the shaving cream is repeated when she stirred her macaroni and cheese. These are all related and innovative in that she learns a skill in many different ways.
Suggestion: I noticed Abbie could use some more resistance and stability with her kitchen supplies. I am a chef and taught monthly kid classes at a school. One thing that helps are heavy bowls or bowls with loop handles to hold on to. Another solution is a wet dish cloth or shelf mats under the bowls. It keeps the bowls and cutting boards from moving and will most likely increase her coordination and skills. I absolutely love how much you talk to Abbie during her tasks and the positive reinforcement she is receiving. I think it makes a big difference in her interest in the activity! I also like how you offered multiple options for leading the task: hand over hand, modeling, verbal prompting, and non verbal prompting. This is an exceptional video!
As a retired flight nurse I have been exposed to all kinds of people with just about every ability under the sun. Unfortunately, I know very little about autism except for very basic things. Abby is so beautiful and is such a joy. My question is, when she is involved in all kinds of activities, she often looks up and to her right. Is that unique to her or is it part of her autism. Lastly, why does she do it? I have learned so much watching your beautiful family over the years. Thank you so very much for sharing and informing this not informed lady. Love, hugs, and blessings!
Asa my son isn’t autistic but he has neurological issues but we used things in his classes with puddings and jello so you can paint with it! All you need is blank paper! She is doing so amazing!
Asa - you have more patience in your baby finger than most people in their entire body. What a wonderful dad - but please don't burn yourself out - it is so draining. You won't do anyone any good if you can't be on your game, and you have so much else to do that you also love. Finding Abbie a wonderful teacher that fits is critical - or my hope would be to get her out of the house and enrolled in a day program in the community. Good for Abbie to be around others, good for you and Priscilla to have some time for other priorities knowing she is well taken care of and learning important skills. Frankly, you already look a little worn out. Take good care. ❣
why not let her continue at 12:00? she already had the knives in separate hands about to set one down, why stop her to focus on pairing them? I have a son with nonverbal autism also so I understand the need for explanation and wanting to pair them for her but she was so close! she’s definitely a smart girl though and the progress she’s made since I started watching (over 3 years now!) has been incredible! so you’re obviously doing something right
She would probably have a real teacher come to the house and teach her the things that they aren't qualified to teach her, because they aren't actually teachers so the mother and father would teach her the life skilled lessons she needs to learn, but a professional qualified teacher would teach her the other things that she would learn in school
@@carmencitadavis9043 you don't need a qualified teacher to teach her life skills! A lot of parents that have typical children home school they're not teachers!
Also, my son used to use the Crest Cinnamon Gel one. It sits upright and is red. It used to have big glitter looking particles in it. It was a bit more runny and easier for him to apply to the toothbrush independently. I googled it and this is what popped up on Walmarts site. "Crest Complete Whitening Liquid Gel Toothpaste, Cinnamon Rush, 4.6 oz. It says it's like almost $6
What have you had the most success with? Public school or homeschool? I’m just interested. Great job Abbie!❤ 13:32 how are you not scared that she might accidentally cut you?
It's hard to say. We saw the fastest growth with her at home skills with homeschool but that makes sense because sometimes it's hard to transfer those skills she learns in school to home. That doesn't mean she doesn't learn a lot in school, we just don't see as much of the obvious progress as parents. She is certainly happier at school though because she is a very social person.
You should only brush twice a day because the chemical in toothpaste wears down the enamel and causes sensitivity to food and drink hot and cold foods and drinks I use to brush my teeth 4 times a day but now I suffer from sensitivity
I’m sure someone has already said this but you can make your own texture for toothpaste. What I do for my kids is take whatever toothpaste they like and add the mouth wash they use and get a squeeze bottle from dollar tree to put it in. I’ve also seen people put it in a hand soap dispenser. But that way you can control how thick or thin you need it. Hope this helps. 🙌🏽Love watching y’all’s videos. ❤
Abbie is doing Great with you Asa and it looks like you both are having fun....I have noticed that she often looks away when doing things up close...Do you think Abbie might need glasses?..Just a thought....Way to go Abbie and Asa!
Asa you are an amazing Dad and teacher! The growth I have seen in Abigail over the years is amazing. Ya all are doing an incredible job. I hope you find a teacher for your girl soon but in the mean time your smashing it! Your patience and Attitude in working with Abbie is powerful to watch! Keep up the great work
So first, this video is incredible for So many reasons. Try buying her toothpaste in a squeeze bottle. The texture is a bit runnier and the opening is smaller so when you do one good squeeze, a much thinner line comes out. Asa, you are an amazing father and teacher. As for you, Miss Abbie, you are doing so great! So proud of you! Isaiah, go App! Tell Dad you want him to buy the house for sale in Avery County so they can visit often…lol. Just look up most expensive house in Avery County! Priscilla, you are SUPERWOMAN
Learning through play is th baseline of teaching children through academic studies. I did a course in childhood studies 24 years ago. 101 is creating educational activities that allow learning to develop with out absolute focus on just the learning!
Abbie seems to Keep initiating tasks with her left hand before being switch to right. What would happen if you let her continue with using her left instead of switching?
Runny tooth paste... my hack 4 my son ... we put tooth paste and a little bit of mouth wash mixed [ u can test with more mouth wash 2 make it the consistency u want ]] i put it in a new soap dispenser *** hope this works or helps.
Absolutely LOVED seeing your entire day with Abby! Thanks so much for the longest video I have ever seen you post! I enjoy them all but the long ones are my favorite
When you said to Abby "Abby what is your name?" Abby's response "My name is Dunkin Donuts" I laughed out loud!!! That was the best ever!!!!!!
What a patient and loving father.
I loved when Abbi said her name was Dunkin Donuts!! Love that girl!
Making a schedule and having abbie do it is work for both,I applaud all the blood, sweet, and tears put into it

I like that Abbie keeps going to the drawer. It shows she knows that's part of setting the table. It might be a bit regressive, to put it all out for her, if she already knows where to get stuff :)

One trick for keeping the cutting board from slipping is to dampen a towel or paper towel and put it under her board and it helps keep it in place. 😊

Well done Dad n Abbie use done great, use will soon get into a routine n find new activities to make learning more fun xx
I have a son with nonverbal autism also so I understand the need for explanation and wanting to pair them for her but she was so close! she’s definitely a smart girl though and the progress she’s made since I started watching (over 3 years now!) has been incredible! so you’re obviously doing something right
Great first day. I just suggest using her left hand for cutting cause I remember that Mom said she is left handed.
Is returning to school(for adults)advisable for her?She would get professional teaching with a lesson plan
She's not going back to school! She's being home school so she can learn life skills!
@ wow amazing words thanks you inspire me
You should only brush twice a day because the chemical in toothpaste wears down the enamel and causes sensitivity to food and drink hot and cold foods and drinks I use to brush my teeth 4 times a day but now I suffer from sensitivity
I don’t comment a lot, but I’m so proud of you Abbie! You are amazing! Keep up the fantastic work👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Abbie is doing Great with you Asa and it looks like you both are having fun....I have noticed that she often looks away when doing things up close...Do you think Abbie might need glasses?..Just a thought....Way to go Abbie and Asa!
Keep up the great work
Thank you for taking us with you i your homeschooling journey! ❤️
Been watching your vlogs for 2 years now.. y’all are so AWESOME!! You’re doing an amazing job Abbie!!! Love from KC ❤
You 2 r a good team!!
I love the improvement in her cutting! Just a thought, a wet paper towel under her board may stop it from sliding so much!
My fiancé uses crest pro health sensitivity and that is a little runnier, not a thick gel
Does Abby like to listen to music while she walks? Maybe that would make her walks more interesting.
She loves music from what I have observed
Great idea
You are so correct. Her whole body needs sensory input.
It looks as though you're both having fun while learning to have towels or wipes on hand!🙂
Runny tooth paste... my hack 4 my son ... we put tooth paste and a little bit of mouth wash mixed [ u can test with more mouth wash 2 make it the consistency u want ]] i put it in a new soap dispenser *** hope this works or helps.
I know it's late..but started just recently and working my down the line in vidoes []]
Absolutely LOVED seeing your entire day with Abby! Thanks so much for the longest video I have ever seen you post! I enjoy them all but the long ones are my favorite
Hey Asa. Get one of those non-skid kitchen mats for under your cutting board…or four of those little rubber feet..
"That log is over populated" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love your decorations on the table lol 😝
