Also with Arbok in the Manga it changes its mark to be faster or attack power is raised. I remeber a fangame put this as an ability or you can capture its marked form like Pumpkaboo.
I saw a meme about the lapras extinction thing, someone posted “As a kid, I continuously breed, hatched and released Lapras because I read in a dex entry that they were going extinct” and then it shows the Pokémon moon dex entry saying they were saved, and then someone put that clip from Jurassic park that said “You did it, you crazy son of a b*tch you did it”
i remember hearing about that too. wasn't it's X or Y dex saying that "due to the interference of people, it's numbers have grown" or something like that?
Real life vampire bats actually have a habit of drinking so much blood sometimes that they can't fly away. I'm pretty sure that's where that Golbat fact comes from.
@@christopherfu2169 Alakazam can't learn amnesia, slowbro can. it should probably stay that way considering alakazam having amnesia in gen 1 would be horrifying
Yup!! In the SWSH DLC pokedex, the Lapras entry said something like ‘thanks to dedicated effort, they are no longer endangered’. Which is so touching after the entry in RBY lol
Judging by the fact that Oak sends out ten year olds to complete Pokédex entries a plausible theory I heard is that all the Pokédex entries are written by ten years olds so it makes sense why a lot of them are batshit insane. Like a ten year old isn’t gonna know what Mach 2 speed is, but knows Pidgeot flies freaking fast.
This is wrong and annoying, the physics of the Pokémon-world are different, the professor obviously deals with the data and 10 year olds are functionally adults in this world.
For dratini's or dragonite's case I am sure that it is all a rumor cuz Professor oak created the data for the pokedex at a young age and ofc lance wasnt an elite 4 during that time
Dragons were sacred Pokemon originally, they make a point out of that in Johto. I imagine the guys who see them as sacred might take insult to the idea of someone studying them thoroughly.
12:12 The Victreebel entry is more terrifying when you remember how many times James' Victreebel tried to eat...or at least it looked like it was eating him
Mikey's increasing frustration every time diamonds are mentioned was great. It feels like the person who wrote the Dex entries in the early days could only think of diamonds for examples of toughness but thought they were much softer than they actually are.
With as many times as I heard diamond I started to think of Rihanna’s song “Diamonds”. With that have a fabulous day and try to “shine bright like a diamond”.
For some reason in the 90's, EVERYONE compared things to diamonds as the benchmark of hardness. I mean yeah, it's true, but it was some sort of oversaturated meme back then, and I guess it was in Japan, too.
I know this probably wasn't intentional, but the Dratini line discrepancy makes sense when you remember that LANCE IS NOT FROM KANTO!! Lance is from Johto!! In KANTO Dratini are so rare they were thought to be a myth, and in fact the only way you can catch one is by fishing in the Safari Zone! But in Johto, Lance's family cares for Dragons in the Dragon Den and therefore has access to as many as they want. The out of universe reason is that they didn't want to spoil Lance's team lol
@@Ryodraco probably for the same reason no one in Kanto knows what a steel type is despite magnemite being there lol or dark types despite pretty much all the dark types in Johto being actually found in Kanto. But seriously, you'd be amazed how limited access to travel and such could affect the ability to understand wildlife. I didn't know foxes were omnivores until I was like 11 and they live literally everywhere. If I didn't already know what they were and you described an armadillo to me, I would think they were fake. And they are far from the weirdest animal out there, but I have never seen one irl, despite the fact that they live in the neighbouring country. Considering that Dratini is still rare in Johto, but isn't rare to Lance because he literally lives in the town where they ARE found (and remember that Blackthorn is extremely isolated. It's hard to get there!) it's just an everyday thing to him, but to everyone else it's incredible!
@@myheartismadeofstars thing is the info the dex gives here is from the perspective of people who research pokemon, not someone uneducated about wildlife. Even centuries ago scientists knew about pretty much every large animal that lived near their region, even if the scientists themselves never traveled outside it (remote places on other continents were a different matter). The whole idea of Steel and Dark types being "recently discovered" seems to me like something that was retconned out. More to the point, Lance is a member of Kanto's Elite Four, so Dragonite's behavior logically should not be written as if it is unknown what is true. It's not like he arrived yesterday.
@@Ryodraco Steel and Dark being "recently discovered" wasn't retconned out per se. The scientific research just hadn't reached that conclusion yet. It was likely a theory beforehand. Similar to how in Kalos, Sycamore theorizes on the origin of Mega Evolution coming from the ultimate weapon energy because he doesn't have enough proof to say its a fact.
fun fact, there was a huge dear that lived during the ice age. it went extinct because when the ice ended and things warmed up, and more dense forests started to grow. it's huge antlers kept getting suck in the trees. the omastar entry reminded me of that one.
"ooh uh...kinda graphic Nidoking..did you REALLY have to smash, constrict AND break the bones? I feel like one of those wouldve been sufficient" love that line lol 😂
14:22 The best reason I can think of why you can’t see Doduo/Dodrio’s wings is because they’re not only based on dodo birds, but also kiwis and other ratites (ex. ostriches, emus, rheas). Kiwis have such short wings that the loose feathers on its body cover it up, so I assume that it’s the same for Doduo. Also, fun fact: Did you know kiwis STILL have a thumb claw on their wings like the Archaeopteryx?
Ninetails cursing people for a thousand years is probably the only way it can stop them from grabbing all those fluffy tails. Imagine falling asleep in that pile of tails. They tried asking Lance if Dragonite can really fly, but he told them he spent tons of time training his and he's not going to overwrite a perfectly good move with Fly.
Fun fact: In the Pokemon manga Arboks versions were shown and mentioned and Agatha had one that can switch its patterns to get stronger for example one pattern for speed boost and another pattern for Defense boost etc
That’s really forward thinking of them, considering that back in Gen 1 pokemon only had five base stats (Special attack and SpDef were a single Special stat)
Yep! Koga’s Arbok was part of a breed whose pattern was associated with increased healing ability. You know how everybody always points out “yoooo the arbok got cut in half in the Manga!”, like it’s some big edgy thing? Yeah, that was Koga’s Arbok, and it survived.
@@Hadaron people really fixate on that aspect of the manga for some reason. Honestly though the callback to that scene later on is genius and I will be difficult to convince otherwise.
6:48 Ninetales is based off the “kyūbi no kitsune” (literally “nine-tailed fox”) In ancient Japan, it was believed that when foxes got older, their tails split and they began to display supernatural abilities. A nine-tailed fox was the most powerful and had lived for 1,000 years. The “cursing” is just a reference to how much power it has. Another fun fact: Vulpix and Ninetales element is fire because all kitsune yokai are proficient with it, as well as lightning.
@@ianfinrir8724 They both describe the same thing, likely ball lightning, or swamp gas. However, they are not the same magical figure. A will o’the wisp is a mythological creature, likely a kind of fairy or goblin. Kitsune-bi happens because kitsune yōkai naturally control fire.
My theory for the Wheezing Evolution Pokedex entry, is that a Wheezing that's being trained by a trainer will evolve in that instantaneous manner because it gains the ability to self-reproduce. The Pokedex entry version of the way Wheezings are created, could be what happens to them in nature without the influence of trainers.
There are diamonds artificially made that have green coloration, gamefreak musve studied diamonds alot considering how much they like putting it in their pokedex entries lol
On one hand, we'd lose gold steelix. On the other hand, alpha Obsidian Steelix. Honestly I think it'd be worth it. The coolest option though would be them adding a second onix evolution that's rock ghost and coal dark. Maybe it could have an ability that gives it fire STAB because of looking like coal, kinda like steelworker!
12:52 it makes sense when you consider that Machamp and Golem might’ve been intended to be a proto-Escavalier and Accelgor situation. Machoke goes from two hands to four and loses its reptilian maw as Machamp, and Graveler from four arms to two and gets the reptilian face that Machoke had when it becomes Golem!
Fun fact there was a kid who played the gen 1 games and he spent his time breeding Lapras and releasing them because he saw the dex entry that said it was nearly extinct so a single child single-handedly brought back a species from near extinction
@@Notreallymyusername918 which means if a trainer wants, it can reduce the popularity of every pokemon to 0 as they can't breed, so everytime you can a pokemon, just remember it's slowly becoming endangered
I like how the thumbnail is just a thing pitcher plants do in real life. Better yet, the bugs return because they get high off of the scent. And some bats are metal enough to use these dudes as HOUSES.
"How big can a wigglytuff get?" With out limit means with out limit. The only reason the universe still exists is because wigglytuff has has not decided to inflate to be bigger than it.
So I only recently read this. Apparently the reason that Golem and Machamp look the way they do is because they take aspects of each others pre evolutions. Like they got crossed in trading. Hence Machamp getting 4 arms from Graveler and Golem getting Machokes head.
a lot of dex entries are contradiction, Wartortle's states that it's tail sticks out when hiding in its shell even though we see in anime that there is no tail when it's inside the shell
Mystery dungeon blue rescue team elaborates on Ninetales curse, the narrative of the game is built around the mistaken belief that the player was turned into a Pokémon by being cursed by Ninetales. So Ninetales curse is about transmogrification.
I was coming here to say this And in case people who played this game were unaware, it does actually tell you who the trainer cursed by Ninetales is (but I won't say because of spoilers)
Except that turns out to have been a lie, and we also get to see what the curse actually does: it makes its victim fade into a sleeping spirit that can only communicate through dreams.
Fun fact about diamonds! They’re incredibly hard, meaning that they’re impossible to scratch, but they’re only fairly tough so they idea of using a horn to shatter one isn’t entirely unrealistic :)
13:46 It did actually happen in 2 Journeys episodes, but with Slowking instead of Slowbro. The Slowking actually de-evolved back to Slowpoke (then re-evolved when the Shellder crown came back to it), and the Shellder kept that pale, cone-shaped appearance.
@@theamazingspooderman2697 in the gen 2 beta, there was a sprite for slowbros shelder tail. I think it was called turban or something? So that'd be what it is now
The whole Dratini thing reminds me of how we discovered the Coelacanth. We thought they had died out 66 million years ago during the KT extinction, but a fisherman hauled one up in 1938. We looked closer where they were hauled up and we found an entire colony of African Coelacanths still swimming around.
Well, if you take pokemon mystery dungeon into account, the curse that the ninetales puts on you is turning you into a pokemon like what happened with Gengar.
Actually, that's not exactly true... Because Gengar didn't actually get cursed. He was _SUPPOSED_ to be cursed, but his Gardevoir took the curse upon herself instead. The Ninetails was actually going to break the curse and let them both go free because of how much his Gardevoir cared about him, but Gengar ran away so Ninetails didn't break the curse. That being said, Gengar _DID_ turn into a pokemon _BECAUSE_ he ran away...but chances are that it wasn't actually related to him grabbing Ninetails tail. It was just because he ran away and abandoned Gardevoir that he was cursed to turn into a Gengar. The real curse is more like going into a spiritual coma.
@Tyranitar. Yeah, pretty much, lol. There are probably other variations of curses (like how the Ninetails possibly also turned Gengar into...well...a Gengar (the Ninetails said that it wasn't responsible for it and that Gengar did it to himself but that could also just be the Ninetails way of saying "yeah I cursed you but you kind of asked for it so it's not _MY_ fault since you brought this upon yourself" which would be a very Kitsune way of thinking lmao and since Ninetails is based on a Kitsune that adds up) It might also be worth noting that in mythology, Kitsune are sometimes said to be able to manifest inside of/manipulate peoples dreams, so Ninetails curse effectively, putting you into a coma could potentially be kind of like saying that they're effectively haunting you in your sleep and making your life miserable for 1000 years for disrespecting it. Might not have been what the intended perspective was, but when you look at it like that, it does kind of line up. Also, they sometimes feed off of souls, so I guess theres another interpretation of what's happening/what they could be doing...that one's probably worse though lol.
@Vigriff I mean...fairy doesn't really make as much sense for Kantonian Ninetails. The best argument for it is probably that kitsune are mythological creatures (so kind of like fairytale in a way), that they can have some fairy like abilities (like some of them can have power over nature by way of plants or something and they can control certain elements found in nature like water and wind and whatnot...but regular Ninetails isn't really one of those since it's element is fire which isn't as associated with nature), and that they're tricksters which is common among the fae. On the other hand ghost type would make a lot more sense since Kitsune are: Spirits (not exactly ghosts per se, but they're spiritual creatures) Some of them feast off of humans (be it like a succubus would (the most common way), literally just killing you and consuming your soul (not necessarily in that order), just kind of passively stealing your life force here and there to get by but not necessarily trying to actively harm you, some combination, ....literally ripping your pituitary gland out of your head and eating it because some people say they need it to survive (can't tell at this point if that's included in the original myths or not and honestly some of the stuff I've already mentioned have probably just been retroactively added to the myths but whatever...and anyway judging from the fact that their Chinese/Korean variants LITERALLY EAT PEOPLE/THEIR ORGANS it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case here to just on a lesser scale) you get the point. They also have a tendency to possess people. And not to mention they can literally be killed/defeated/have their illusions seen through and subsequently broken by people of faith and holy magic/blessed weapons and whatnot. And kitsune are actually known to be the _NICE_ ones in comparison to their Chinese/Korean variants! Some of them don't even do most if not any of the things mentioned above and if they do it's usually either because they literally have to in order to survive and/or because they just want to prank people but aren't actually intending to hurt anyone. They can also potentially just keel over and die if they get too depressed (supposedly negative emotions can weaken/kill them if they dwell on them long enough...but that's just what google tells me lol) or if the magical ball they carry around breaks (maybe....depending on the myth). Anyway, my point is that while they may seem like they have a lot in common with the fae and while their personalities might seem to match up better with the fae they're really closer to ghosts especially considering that kitsune literally are spirits.
Yeah, but Gengar wasn't the one who got cursed. It was his Gardevoir because she sacrificed herself for him. Gengar was only turned into a pokemon because he ran away and abandoned her because the Ninetails was actually going to break the curse because of Gardevoir's sacrifice, but because Gengar ran away the curse wasn't broken and he turned into a pokemon. Which...I mean...if nothing else that shows that not all Ninetails are completely unreasonable, lol. After all, this one was willing to let bygones be bygones soley because the trainers pokemon cared about him enough to sacrifice herself for him and the only reason it didn't was because the guy was so cowardly that he ran away and abandoned the pokemon who saved him. Plus, if you think about it...if Ninetails was the one who turned him into a Gengar...and if they had the ability to choose which pokemon he turned into....choosing for him to turn into a Gengar could potentially be a form of mercy. Because since Gengar is a ghost type, he would potentially be able to live for the 1000 years it takes until the curse breaks so he could potentially be able to live long enough to be reunited with his Gardevoir...or at the very least live long enough to realize his mistake and repent for abandoning Gardevoir and save her by seeking out Ninetails and breaking the curse (like he did in the game).
About 6:45 where you ask about the ninetails curse we could always use the Pokemon Blue and Red Mystery Dungeon games where the game does circle around a legend about the ninetails curse! 😃
11:20 I can answer this one The power-save belt is a necessary precaution for Machoke due to the fact that their “immeasurable” physical strength is not only a threat to others but to themselves and need to be regulated in healthy intervals however there are instances where Machoke willingly remove the belt in order to face truly mighty opponents Its one of those situations where just because you can have all the power in the world doesn’t mean you need it
The more I watch these videos of Michael talking about Pokémon dex entries, the more I realise that these videos are basically the Pokémon equivalent of CinemaSins ‘Everything Wrong With’ videos, except it’s also showing interesting, funny & creepy moments!
I recently discovered this in replaying Red and Blue. Mr Fuji owned the mansion on Cinnabar Island and founded the Pokémon Research Lab. Apparently he was also the one who discovered Mew and wrote the journal entries in the mansion. So it’s assumed he was the one that also created Mewtwo and subjected it to all those horrific experiments.
Poliwhirl did the whole "frog that can do the breaststroke and front crawl" thing back in 1995, 19 years before One Piece's Water 7 arc, where the sumo frog can do the breaststroke and the front crawl. One Piece was either inspired by Poliwhirl or else there's some kind of inside joke about frogs that can swim that I don't know about in Japan...
20:19 fun fact: ironically this has happened irl, more than once, smilodon actually went extinc becuase it adapted to eat so much, but after its prey ended up dying and becoming smaller, it ended up dying, same with megalodon
Fun fact: The thing going on with Lapras is happening IRL with elephants in Botswana. There's a huge controversy about them starting to allow elephant hunting again in order to control the population.
Fun fact, as a child playing og Blue in GBC, I never used Doduo or Dodrio in my team. Why? I thought it didn't learned Fly. Never once i thought "You know? I think I'll try teaching it." For me it was just nonsensical. It turns out i found YEARS later. Like, after being 22 years old. That it could fly.
12:34 Now I’m wondering how acidic Victreebell’s digestive juices have to be, because I’pretty sure the hydrochloric acid in our stomachs can dissolve bone. However, a pitcher plant’s prey doesn’t have bones, they have an exoskeleton.
I think there are two ways to interpret the Ninetales 1,000 year curse. Option 1: you’re forced to live 1,000 years after the tail pull. That doesn’t sound bad at first but you got to think of the implications. The human body isn’t designed to last that long, your senses will fail you, your body will go lame, you’ll lose your memory, you’ll be reduced to a husk counting down the seconds praying for death until you are finally released from this curse. It’d be kinda like Porky Minch in Mother 3 where he becomes so old that he needs a mech to do literally anything. Option 2: it’s a familial curse that will start with you and continue through your bloodline until the 1,000 years ends. Both of these options are horrifying because you either become a living mummy or you ruin the lives of your descendants before they’re even born.
"PokEmoN FaNs WiLl MakE a heAdCanoN oUt Of AnythInG" It said 1000 year curse and literally nothing else with no explanation what do you expect people to do
I choose option 2 bc I don't want kids so it wouldn't work anyway 👉😎👉 I would only hope that the ninetales doesn't know that and automatically go for option 1-
According to this legend, a greedy Trainer once entered a sacred dungeon, known to contain many rare Pokémon. The Trainer encountered a Ninetales and crudely grabbed one of its tails. The Trainer was supposed to receive a curse as a result of this action, but his Gardevoir took the curse, doing its duty as a Gardevoir by protecting its master, which startled the Ninetales. The Trainer, horrified, fled the scene in fear of the curse. Ninetales told Gardevoir that the Trainer would one day become a Pokémon, which would bring on many natural disasters.
“They saved Lapras from extinction” Sir? Sir. It’s US. WE did it. I actually remember people being saddened by its original Dex entry when Gen 1 came out and when Gen 2 brought us Breeding, a lot of people I know (myself included) took that chance to breed and release Lapras like crazy. We didn’t know if it would actually have any results but we enjoyed hoping… and it’s nice to know the developers took notice of that and actually canonically changed Lapras’ fate as a nod to our behavior there. XD
12:33 Pretty sure Golem's "shed shell" entry is closer to an invertebrate like a tarantula shedding its exoskeleton and then being soft and vulnerable until the new one grows and hardens. Reptiles only shed the first layer of skin and do not change color or hardness substantially. It makes more sense that it's based on a bug since Pokemon was inspired by bug-catching.
19:00 ish I remember a little while ago, like a few years now, someone on 4chan said they breed and released their lapras back into the wild because, "they were endangered" so I guess it kinda worked a little too well
Concerning the Speed Stat, I've always interpreted it as the Pokemon's close quarters reflexes, how quickly it can react in the pitch of battle, rather than an indication of the top speed it can achieve.
still doesn't make sense, how can pokemon designed after jet planes react slower than a fat cat, have you seen how lazy a fat cat is, how does Decidueye shoot arrow that fast using his reflexes when he has speed stat of 60
@@theamazingspooderman2697 1. The pokemon was designed after jet planes IN THE REAL WORLD, not in the game. And jet planes don't have reflexes, dude. 2. Cats are well known for having quick reflex. What are you on about? 3. Reflexes have nothing to do with how fast arrows work. Have you never seen someone shoot an arrow?
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme ofc they don't have reflexes but if a jet plane had reflexes it definitely would be faster than a fat cat reflexes are literally required to shoot arrows fast and precisely, you need to perceive your enemy to hit it, how will you perceive your enemy if you don't have fast enough reflexes? example? Hawkeye could shoot Loki with his arrow in Avengers 1 even when he was flying on an alien vehicle bcz he wasn't that fast but Hawkeye couldn't shoot Quicksilver with his arrow bcz Quicksilver is way too fast for Hawkeye's reflexes
6:45 Well if the first Mystery Dungeon games are to be believed, one of the possible curses is being turned into a pokemon. This is NOT how the player character became a pokemon, but is rather the backstory of a different character.
When I was a young lad, I read this pokémon entry on my red version. Immediately when I found out about pokémon breeding I bred hundreds if not maybe a thousand laprases. I released every single Lapras but my original😂! I thought I was bringing the population back!
"Who lives for 1000 years?!" That's part of the curse! Also, rooming with 8 other guys in a pokemon's body sounds like a pretty cool fate! Especially if they're all saints.
Especially since these are the first games; I feel like half of what Mikey is saying reflects future games GameFreak hadn’t even considered yet. I mean, it’s nuts to remember there was a whole two years between the first two generations and all the stuff the second generation added that negated older Pokédex entries.
Let's give OG Gane Freak props for basically having zero story in Gen 1 other than beating up Team Rocket, but they baked in 151 paragraphs of text into the Pokédex for flavor alone.
1:55 This actually happens to cats in real life too, their whiskers actually work as sensory organs and if they're cut the cats get clumsy and a bit disoriented (I think it also applies to dogs and mice since they have whiskers too but haven't actually checked)
6:36 The Original Mystery Dungeon game and the DX remake has this as part of the plot. The Curse may be Random, but one Curse would be turning into a Pokemon in a world only for Pokemon. This is what Team Meanies Gengar had happened to him.
7:30 Somebody never saw Jigglytuff's special move in the Super Smash Bros games, where it can inflate itself about as big as the fighting arena. I think THAT'S what they meant by that. As for Machamp, I think the belt is used to control it's overall strength. Machamp should've had a Hisuian regional variant that would make sense for this dex entry, especially if the Machamp had somehow found a way to control it's strength. But that's just me. But since Professor Oak created the Pokedex in the Red, Blue and Yellow games, maybe he was pulling the Hisuian professor and went by what he observed before the dex entries were corrected later on in future games.
I remember Dusclops' Violet entry sounding interesting to me, since it says that Dusclops' true form might be a bright red eye inside it, but no one has seen such a thing
Btw Mikey, the imperial/other world metric thing is also why the specific number 220lbs was used for Tinkaton and stuff - that's just what the very normal rounded 100kg is in lbs. Also, completely forgot about that Muk entry - yeah, Muk apparently was made as a toxic-sludge-covered monster in mind at first, and they just dropped it and made it made out of sludge? Funny how some sentiments changed in just one generation.
1:19 (Un)friendly reminder that the Speed stat doesn't necessarily equal to the top movement speed of a Pokemon. A jet plane has a much higher top speed than a race car, but a race car can accelerate from a stop, and turn much quicker than a plane. I don't think it's confirmed anywhere, but I'm sticking with the headcanon that the Speed stat refers to reaction speed/mobility.
Possibly, but there are some entries like Vikavolt that specifically mention quickly darting around, suggesting quick turns and mobility, despite being VERY slow. I do think you're generally right, but there are exceptions that can prove or disprove either case.
But if something like vikavolt or escavalier has terrible reaction speed, wouldn't them quickly flying around like their Pokedex entry says just cause them to fly into the nearest wall?
@@ryuuronin9852 Lmao, the Scarlet entry literally mentions "exceptional mobility". I think the only way to justify/rationalize Vikavolt's slowness is from its attack speed. The dex mentions that it needs to build up/concentrate electricity before it fires, which means it attacks later than the opponent. Escavalier I'd imagine works like a vehicle (or a Rhyhorn). Unless there's some anime moment where Escavalier turns or accelerates on a dime.
...yeah this is probably just wrong, so i don't why you had to make it an unfriendly reminder. you mean to tell me that mega manectric, mega aerodactyl, electrode, etc. are all at the top of the speed list because they... have fast reactions? this can only really be made as an argument for mewtwo, alakazam, etc., and it's still pushing it a bit considering those guys can basically fly.
@@charlesruteal9062 True. That said the charge up only seems to be a thing for electricity (sounding alot like Archelodon's Electro Shot ironically). If it were using physical moves like U-turn it should still be quick.
0:30 The weird part about all of this is that in the anime, VENUSAUR, the same mon with a TREE on its back can stand on its hind legs, twice in the anime, where one fuses with Blastoise to become Venustoise, and when it’s guarding against Combusken. Crazy stuff

Imagine if there's a Pokemon version of Mythbusters, where they test out all the different Pokedex entries.
This is wrong and annoying, the physics of the Pokémon-world are different, the professor obviously deals with the data and 10 year olds are functionally adults in this world.
That's actually my headcanon, also explains why the Pokedex doesn't update until you catch a Pokemon.

To be fair, Lance could be being secretive to protect the Dragonite line.
Oak had a Dragonite himself before becoming a Professor!
Friedrich Mohs is turning in his grave
Diamonds aren't Tough, they're hard. They're difficult to scratch, they're pathetically easy to break.
With as many times as I heard diamond I started to think of Rihanna’s song “Diamonds”. With that have a fabulous day and try to “shine bright like a diamond”.
Maybe that's why the *Diamond* & Pearl regional Dex is 151...
Thing is Kanto and Johto are neighbors. Why would the wildlife of one be considered mythical in the other?
The Will o' Wisp is a sort of ghost light seen in forests and whatnot. The Japanese name for one is "Kitsune-bi" or "fox fire."

@@diamondseraph9369so basically ninetails’ curse just kills you until it’s lifted
@Tyranitar.
Yeah, pretty much, lol.
There are probably other variations of curses (like how the Ninetails possibly also turned Gengar into...well...a Gengar (the Ninetails said that it wasn't responsible for it and that Gengar did it to himself but that could also just be the Ninetails way of saying "yeah I cursed you but you kind of asked for it so it's not _MY_ fault since you brought this upon yourself" which would be a very Kitsune way of thinking lmao and since Ninetails is based on a Kitsune that adds up)
It might also be worth noting that in mythology, Kitsune are sometimes said to be able to manifest inside of/manipulate peoples dreams, so Ninetails curse effectively, putting you into a coma could potentially be kind of like saying that they're effectively haunting you in your sleep and making your life miserable for 1000 years for disrespecting it. Might not have been what the intended perspective was, but when you look at it like that, it does kind of line up.
Also, they sometimes feed off of souls, so I guess theres another interpretation of what's happening/what they could be doing...that one's probably worse though lol.
@@diamondseraph9369 Makes me wonder why the Kantonian Ninetales never got that Fairy typing after the Kalos games.
@Vigriff
I mean...fairy doesn't really make as much sense for Kantonian Ninetails.
On the other hand ghost type would make a lot more sense since Kitsune are:
Spirits (not exactly ghosts per se, but they're spiritual creatures)
Some of them feast off of humans (be it like a succubus would (the most common way), literally just killing you and consuming your soul (not necessarily in that order), just kind of passively stealing your life force here and there to get by but not necessarily trying to actively harm you, some combination, ....literally ripping your pituitary gland out of your head and eating it because some people say they need it to survive (can't tell at this point if that's included in the original myths or not and honestly some of the stuff I've already mentioned have probably just been retroactively added to the myths but whatever...and anyway judging from the fact that their Chinese/Korean variants LITERALLY EAT PEOPLE/THEIR ORGANS it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case here to just on a lesser scale) you get the point.
In one of the mystery dungeon games, a gengar in it was once human, but grabbed one of the tails on a ninetails

Yeah, pokemon can be horrifying sometimes....

I would only hope that the ninetales doesn't know that and automatically go for option 1-
According to this legend, a greedy Trainer once entered a sacred dungeon, known to contain many rare Pokémon.
“They saved Lapras from extinction”

3. Reflexes have nothing to do with how fast arrows work. Have you never seen someone shoot an arrow?
That's been my take as well. That Speed in Pokemon is more akin to Dexterity in DnD, than actual Movement Speed.
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme ofc they don't have reflexes but if a jet plane had reflexes it definitely would be faster than a fat cat
reflexes are literally required to shoot arrows fast and precisely, you need to perceive your enemy to hit it, how will you perceive your enemy if you don't have fast enough reflexes?
14:45 Magnemite: "HE HAS THEM? FEET?"
I think they meant trail
7:10 I love all the mikey characters 😂
Same! :]
Not all of them but it was nice cameo indeed I wonder if this will show up on meme review 😂
They fuse together and become mega Mikey the god of all good Pokémon content
When I was a young lad, I read this pokémon entry on my red version. Immediately when I found out about pokémon breeding I bred hundreds if not maybe a thousand laprases. I released every single Lapras but my original😂! I thought I was bringing the population back!
Grunty boi is having back pain he’s evolving into a grunty man!
7:12 someone needs to screenshot this and make it into a meme format lmao 😂
Already being done I'm sure
Live mikey reaction
infinite food glitch
> get a staryu
> chop off it's limbs
> as long as center is unharmed, it will regenerate
> keep on chopping off limbs of staryu
"You mean to tell me this BBBBird..!!!" had me screamin!!!😂🤣😂🤣
6:51 Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Dx might give an explanation of what Ninetails curse is. If you want to count spin-off games.
"Who lives for 1000 years?!"
That's part of the curse!
Also, rooming with 8 other guys in a pokemon's body sounds like a pretty cool fate! Especially if they're all saints.
10:48 "It never forgets what it learns.....unless it happens to learn more than 4 moves"
“I feel like this has never happened, and they’re just making stuff up.”
The Pokedex in a nutshell
Especially since these are the first games; I feel like half of what Mikey is saying reflects future games GameFreak hadn’t even considered yet. I mean, it’s nuts to remember there was a whole two years between the first two generations and all the stuff the second generation added that negated older Pokédex entries.
Let's give OG Gane Freak props for basically having zero story in Gen 1 other than beating up Team Rocket, but they baked in 151 paragraphs of text into the Pokédex for flavor alone.
20:01 fun fact porygon actually did that in an old anime episode
if ykyk :(
17:40 I like this one because it's literally just something real starfish do
6:33 ads end (Officially) 😅
20:56 : The fisherman was Lance, and he turned into a dragon specialist afterwards
That’s my headconnon
the belt on Machoke is holding back HIS MASSIVE SCHLONG. Without the belt, hes just whipping it around. the sheer girth makes him unstoppable
1:55 This actually happens to cats in real life too, their whiskers actually work as sensory organs and if they're cut the cats get clumsy and a bit disoriented (I think it also applies to dogs and mice since they have whiskers too but haven't actually checked)
6:36
The Original Mystery Dungeon game and the DX remake has this as part of the plot.
The Curse may be Random, but one Curse would be turning into a Pokemon in a world only for Pokemon.
This is what Team Meanies Gengar had happened to him.
I didn't think you'd do this for the older games but to quote Bruce: I see this as an absolute win"
6:56 the curse is you live 1000 years 😂
7:30 Somebody never saw Jigglytuff's special move in the Super Smash Bros games, where it can inflate itself about as big as the fighting arena.
Its probably obvious that he is not taking super smash bros into account.
@@bossbrozork3022 That’s true.
I remember Dusclops' Violet entry sounding interesting to me, since it says that Dusclops' true form might be a bright red eye inside it, but no one has seen such a thing
You misunderstand. Alakazam has an impossibly high IQ AND perfect memory. It excels at more than one aspect of intelligence.
Metaphorically speaking if the dungeon games are semi canon...the ninetails curse is literally turned into a pokemon and sent to that world...
0:30 The weird part about all of this is that in the anime, VENUSAUR, the same mon with a TREE on its back can stand on its hind legs, twice in the anime, where one fuses with Blastoise to become Venustoise, and when it’s guarding against Combusken. Crazy stuff
Venustoise doesn't count, it was just an illusion caused by Gastly.
This is a odd comment in 6:30 when grunty boi was saying "I'm very sweaty." I skipped 5 seconds to Mikey saying "and very vengeful"
Soo what I heard was grunty boi saying "I'm very sweaty and very vengeful " 😄
… Yeah, GB is a vengeful boy
Hunting Pokémon for sport or food is a concept I think goes over so many peoples heads..that people do anything with Pokémon but catch, train, etc is a topic rarely touched on
