Actually super stoked for more Prop Hunt. The Relekka bit made me cry the first time I watched it. Keep making the content you want to make! When I run out of good content I'll just go watch 9rain
the way they kept trying to replace tutorial island, only to end up back at tutorial island is reminiscent of that goblin mail quest where the goblins have you dye their mail different colours only to settle on the default brown
15:57 I remember a quest in Runescape 3 called pieces of hate. The player needs to go to prison intentionally, then you have to tell the crime you commited, one of the options is "I spacebar through quests".
Wow, after 19 years of being a runescape player I can finally decide which game I actually want to play! It was a hard choice, but I think I'm going to play RuneScape Classic.
@@bellywood7688 unless you have like 1 million dark crabs, or something like that, it's really not worth it, unless you plan on playing the game. Rs3, is not something you will probably like, unless you like games with hotbsr combat. The problem is, it is a COMPLETELY different game from what it was.
I read every single dialogue box of every quest in OSRS on my main. Some of the quests are boring but I think most are pretty good. It is nothing too serious most of the time, but the lighthearted and humoristic way they tell the stories and introduce you to the lore is very entertaining and I think questing is one of the best parts of the game alongside bossing/raiding.
100% agree, the lore is honestly getting better, especially with Grandmaster quests but even the newer ones, i hope they keep at it, and honestly i love the questing cause the rewards are insane compared to 99% of other mmos out there. Other games are just “talk to X” “kill X creature 10 times” until you reach endgame where youve done that for about 30 hours repeatedly
Yeh for sure. I skip my way through majority of the dialogue. But everytime i do have a read it's usually just kinda fun. The writing in this game is fun. Not neccessarily worth getting invested in, but it worth just reading sometimes i guess.
oh come on the lore is so lame you can barely call it lore whenever they really take themselves serious or try to they just copy any other games story but told in a super cheesy and childish way with 0 depth to it. I'd say the game is great but you really can't take the lore, story or quests serious in any way
I played RS3 for a while because I wanted to continue the same character I'd been playing for years, but I'm starting to get back into OSRS and despite all the new content and changes made to it, it really does feel a lot more like the RuneScape I originally fell in love with.
I did the opposite. I played a little bit of osrs. Then tried to come back and discovered rs3 (back when that was the only game) (is that when its called rs2?) But any way. Got confused and quit like 20mins in. Id come for the nostalgia and it wasnt there.
It's so true too lmao. When you actually play through the quests following the dialogue, you realize that your character is a complete dumbass who has no idea how he ended up where he is, and is constantly falling for the dumbest schemes imaginable. It's my favorite part of the game lol, the writing is honestly so good, especially the troll series of quests imo
The best way to enjoy RS3, I think, is as an ironman. Account progression is satisfying and attainable for just about all play-styles and you don't have to worry about treasure hunter. And regarding community, most players either find it in a clan or socialize in more heavily-trafficked areas. War's Retreat is usually pretty bumping. And with the new Fort Forinthry update, there's likely to be a lot of players there at all times.
This is what I tell all my OSRS buddies that want to give RS3 another try. Ironman gave RS3 a whole new breath of fresh air when Main-scape got old for me
ปีที่แล้ว +1
I play IM RS3 as well, and if you want to talk to people, there are lots of friends chats, but I also regularly find people chatting around hubs (So yeah War's Retreat and Fort Forinthry). There are also several Ironman clans if that's your thing :)
Agreed. And for new players any friendchats of the YT/twitch streamers are a good choice to get into the community. I'm personally in Sick Nerd's and it still had a strong community after he quit for a while.
The only thing I miss as an ironman in RS3 is no group finder. I just find it rather tedious to use FC and such to find a group. Therefore I simply don't and solo everything instead, which is also kind of a pain, but it's a Dark Souls kind of pain where you still want to keep going.
I read the quest dialogue in osrs simply for the humor 😂. Idk why, but I find the random jokes funny. My favorite being the navigator in bone voyage telling what happened to the previous ships. "The ninth version was built with magic logs. The barge gained some form of rudimentary sentience. It developed serious depression and ran itself aground near Crandor."
My answer to this question is the same one I've had for years; I genuinely believe that if you enjoy one of these games, you will enjoy the other one too if you just give it a chance. The games have a lot of shared DNA, but are enjoyable for different reasons. In OSRS the grinds can feel more rewarding mentally but in RS3 the rewards are much more tangible. A great example is Sins of the Father vs. Lord of Vampyrium. In both of these quests, you unlock Darkmeyer and a weapon that whoops some vyrewatch ass, but in OSRS the best reward for doing so is a blood shard which requires an amulet of fury to even do anything with. In RS3's Darkmeyer, you unlock one of the best methods for training prayer and combat in the game for ironmen which is also 100% afk, gives enough supplies to replace all of the super restores you use during the method and still profit on them, and on top of all of this gives decent firemaking xp as well. Completing quests in OSRS feels good because you completed the quest, completing quests in RS3 feels good because you get some bomb ass rewards.
Im sorry but your assessment of reward in osrs is lacking. Unlocking darkmeyer in osrs opens the path not only to great combat xp, which can make you a great amount of money via said blood shards, but also some of the highest gp per hour money per skill via thieving and agility, with the hallowed sepulcher also being the highest xp rates for agility in the game. It's not nearly as flat as "you can get a blood shard that you cant do anything with" and your comment reeks of bias.
@@mjavon12311 if you play osrs more then you would know theres more to darkmeyer than what you mentioned in your comment, thus making it completely disingenuous.
@@christ8048 nah he right, especially about the tangible part rs3 you genuinely feel like you've unlocked something game-changing osrs just feels like another thing to do off the bucket-list
it's not even just shared dna, 90% of osrs updates are just shit that's been in rs3 for years, hell desert treasure 2 and it's rewards are literally copy pasted ancient curses from temple of sent in rs3.
I would recommend ironman on RS3. It is a lot of fun and the game is set up to allow meanings progress even if you can only play a few hours a week. I wanted to get into OSRS but the amount of time needed for grinds is not something I can do as an adult.
I want a speudo ironman. Like you can buy all the trash, limpwurt roots and grima harralanda. Just let me g.e the shit. But the main drops, the micros. Dont let me by them.
With OSRS you should treat it as a lifelong adventure. That may not sound appealing, but I've seriously been playing off and on for years, and to see how far I've come is really heartwarming. While RS3 might give you that immediate dive into end game, you'll lose out on that sense of progression. It's similar with WoW nowadays, where in Classic it took 100s of hours to reach end game, but in retail it takes one session. I am more connected to my WoW Classic character than I am my WoW Retail one for this very reason. I can remember all the little moments and things that happened, areas I explored, but in Retail WoW it feels like a blur of constant shit. RS3 feels that exact same way to me. Also if you play OSRS on phone, you can easily get 99 woodcutting, fishing, or 99 in bank standing skills, all while you're out at work, on break, etc. Even if it is the slowest methods, you won't really care as long as you reach your goals.
A few hours a week? Any real adult only has 2 seconds to game per full moon in a leap year. 'Cause only real adults can't manage their time properly. /s
I actually learned last month that Guild Wars 1 not only still is playable through Arena net, they also sorta "upscaled" the game to work with current gen graphic cards, added 4k resolution and greatly increased the render distance. So I decided to give it a shot. Miraculously, my Arena net account that I made back in 2006 was still there. I got a new password and bought the "all of the dlc content" bundle box for like 20 dollars or something. I briefly scimmed through a new player (speedrunner) guide on the best class and story to get OP as quickly as possible and away I went. Its pretty fun, but Guild Wars isn't like other MMOs where you see players everywhere. You only see players in the main town areas, and there are several channels like runescape worlds, and each channel has a cap on how many players can be in there. But when you are out in the field where all the quests and monsters are, you're either solo or with whoever is in your group. What was shocking was the fact that Guild Wars still has a very healthy player economy, with trading, cosmetics and everything else. I can't believe a game this old that hasn't had a major update in over a decade still has so many players playing. While I didn't continue playing it, i'd say its worth the 20 dollars to explore the game and get to enjoy some real good internet gaming history. I played a lot of different MMOs over the years. But runescape is the MMO that I always come back to. I still pay $4.99/mo to this day.
GW1 was the first MMO I played. And I also tried to come back to it a few years ago. And nope it wasn't just nostalgia, they way the gameplay of GW1 works is just so different of any other MMO out there it still feels fresh. Sure the movement feels clunky compared to new stuff but the dual class system with only 8 slots makes such rewarding gameplay sandbox I love. I tried GW2 but the gameplay is really different, has nearly nothing to do with GW1. Besides some fun with classic WoW or before that private WoW Servers I didn't found any MMO that hooks me.
I miss the in between RuneScape. When that visual update in 2010 or 2011 came out. It was old school but it looked a little more decent. That's my RuneScape I truly miss.
Yes! I'm so glad more people are talking about this. Now that that generation of players are becoming adults and becoming a larger portion of players, we might one day see a OSHD mode in the game officially. 117 just isn't the same and HDOS isn't really finished. It would be nice to see an official HD client.
@@HamiltonHerper Yeah but the models are still 2007, it's a shame it doesn't upgrade the models too. I'm hoping HDOS becomes more of a thing since it offers the true 2008+ experience
Jimmy, I just want to reinforce a feeling that a lot of us have. We're here to watch your content. Not just By Release. We enjoy listening to you talk about things you're passionate about. Doesn't matter if its Runescape related or not. If you make it, we'll watch it. Much love dude ❤️.
Fun fact I started watching because of the other videos you made that were like this. By release is fun and everything but this is the kind of stuff that keeps me checking back in
The solitude is part of why I play RuneScape 3. It's relaxing to just sit and skill or so some quests without having to worry about social interaction for a few hours.
Can confirm, there's whole guides for Friends Chats in particular that were eye opening to me. Found one for PvM called "Boss Guild" and all of a sudden I can just go "hey, who wants to go do a bunch of elite dungeons together?" Previously I mostly did the singleplayer bosses, which rs3 still has _a ton of_ but you miss out on a good number of them.
I played EVE Online for 11 years. At the peak I was the "CEO" of a manufacturing corporation with 112 players. I was never actually any good at the game, but thanks to my disabilities I had the time and motivation to plan logistics and was almost always available to quell issues and manage relations with rivals and allies. Ended up earning enough trust to get tipped off that an internal power struggle was coming thanks to the integration of a Russian mining corp into our chain of operation, and I liquidated nearly everything silently over a week long period of when many players had IRL obligations with finals. I made about 5K USD, used that to help solidify my hold after emigrating to the USA, and to this day I cannot leave Jita due to the amount of still active players willing to sui*ide gank me. The hate mail, kill mail, inquiry mail, and threats made to my life have been saved offline and remain cherished to this very day
@@olie567 I was very fair and honest, but the drain of the deceit of others and inherent aggressive mindset of once friends as you succeed just couldn't be managed anymore. I truly believe that to go further than I did, you'd have to be a sociopath. My options were to press on and inevitably get punished, or to accept the reality of capitalism and at least make out on top with an exist strategy. I didn't completely screw everyone, I'm still friends with some people, and I couldn't seize everything nor did I lock out equipment to most players that would gets scrapped by opportunists and the same people looking to screw me
If OSRS had the lore and quests that Runescape has, I'd never quit playing. Hoping they at least add some of the older ones like While Guthix Sleeps in the future.
Agree. I love OSRS, but sometimes I wish there were more quests with good lore attached to them. I don't neccessarily need to be "world guardian" or whatever that is. I like that you're just a regular adventurer with your own agenda and a simple mindset who just helps people for the fun of it.
Holy moly that timing was perfect. I just heard of the game an hour ago and now started looking at the games. Then I found myselve with that dilemma and instantly found the video 1 hour after you posted it.
You've ALMOST convinced me to play RS3 just for the quests. I am one of those rare players that enjoys learning about the lore of the game. I even read the books in game, and didn't use quest helper for the first two years of playing the game(except for the occasional puzzle, and clues I guess). Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't have the level of appreciation for the quests that I do without your content, and I thank you for putting out the top tier content that you do, even the non RS content, you're just a funny guy. Much love brother, keep it up ❤️
Yeah, sometimes I feel like the only runescape player in the universe who reads dialogue, lol. After like a 15 year "break", i decided to just make a new account instead to try rs3.... And experiencing all the new quests and old reworked quests has been awesome. And the new quests actually have interesting puzzles you can do without a guide. Whereas a lot of old quests are just... Well, I understand why so many people need guides, me included.
I personally highly recommend both games. Since you're already deep in the world of osrs, starting an ironman on RS3 wouldn't be as daunting. The first big chunk of quests is mostly the same as oldschool's, but once you get to a quest called While Guthix Sleeps, it fully moves into the modern storyline of RS3. And I love the lore in RS3, and if you love lore then you should immediately try digging into Archaeology in RS3 if you try it out. I played RS3 up until the day group ironman came out in osrs, me and some good friends have been going hard on that since it came out, and I haven't looked back yet. But lately I have been craving starting an ironman on RS3 to play through the game as it is today.
Don't listen to the kids who have decided that liking OSRS and hating RS3 is "cool". It's just groupthink on a massive level. Yeah, there's some microtransactions you can buy. It's not a competitive game, it doesn't matter, and if you don't wanna buy them.. don't buy them. :-) RS3 is essentially OSRS with better graphics and more detailed combat (if you want it.)
Same here! I play leagues every year just to redo the quests and read the text. Wish OSRS had the same amount of quests and lore and RS3, but maybe one day.
@AlissahKat I feel this. I am the lore guy in my cc. I read all the quest dialogue, specifically turning off quest helper on newer quests. I love the lore of runescape amd feel like I need to play rs3 just because of how in depth it is
Man, it's really fascinating to *understand* small things you never thought of before. Like why some content creators don't have a specific statue on its plinth anymore when they do shots of certain towns.
Recently got a nostalgia hit and came to watch this. Which in turn lead me back to the same issue I’ve always had with this game. I want old school, but it was dungeoneering which drove me into staying with the game towards the end.
As someone who plays both games but mostly plays RS3 I think you portrayed both games pretty well. I agree that ironman is the more rewarding way to play RS3, I only log into my maxed main to use my daily treasure hunter keys at this point. My hardcore ironman progression is leagues more fun than my main.
That 'seeing lumbridge for the 1st time' hit hard. I was 7 years old man, 7 fricken years old... killing some chickens not knowing wtf I was doing but damnit I was having a blast
As someone who tried to get into OSRS after years and years on an Ironman on RS3 (Superior way to play btw) I personally prefer RS3 because you can get stuff done faster. When I only have so many hours in my adult life to waste playing games at least 500k xp/ph methods actually get me somewhere where OSRS I have to spend 5 days at 40k xp/ph to get the same accomplishment. And yes put on blinders and play RS3 ironman but find a clan to interact with. Interaction isn't dead it just doesn't really leave the clan chat box or wars retreat
I have played both and nearly maxed my RS3 and recently started with OSRS and am about to hit base 70 ish and I have gotta say I love them both because I grew up with playing it back in like 2010 or something and stuck with RS3 and just started OSRS the past couple of months have been an absolute blast to play :D Love them both!
You're honestly one of my favorite creators for this MMO info. Every video is well made, edited, informative, fun, true to your brand, funny... You educate new players and give unified head nods to the players and really nail the nuanced differences when you do comparisons. Love it man, good stuff, keep it up.
I've just stuck with my one account for 20 years. I play RS on and off, not really caring about maxing everything. Just enjoying quests...(not so much now, because i'm free to play). Some times I just hang at the exchange buying low , selling high... playing like i'm trading stocks for fun. Skilling a bit when i'm bored or feel too overwhelmed to start a more involved game. RS has always been a comfort game for me to have something to do while i'm thinking about other things. Runescape was the game I could play, while making homework. While watching youtube, tv series, or even while reading a book. Just me being a filthy casual.
Common misconception. Plenty of people play OSRS who have a family, job, and responsibilities. You don't have to grind all day to enjoy OSRS, and its tiring seeing comments like these. OSRS is a marathon, not a race. You can log in for 30 minutes and make progress towards any goal that you'd like in OSRS. RS3 is just unfulfilling in comparison.
I returned to RS3 on a fresh account in 2013, after quitting when EoC was announced. Unfortunately Ironman wasn't a thing yet, but regardless, it's been the most fun I've had in RuneScape since starting in 2007. The bossing is fun, the new skills are the best they've ever made, especially Invention. The quests are really nice, though there were some duds. I actually enjoy the faster EXP rates, because it allows you to focus on the endgame more, instead on mindless grind.
I'm in the same boat. My old account from the early 2000's still exists but I wanted to experience the game as a new player. Started a regular RS3 account and I like the progression there more. I quit the game originally because of the grind and found out after spending 20 F2P hours that there is less grind in RS3 even without microtransactions. I will say it though that the P2W is very dominant. I also find the base treasure keys you get every day is more than enough for the grind. I also stayed for the lore because it's awesome. Unlike 20 years ago, I do read the dialogue...
I mean yeah you can skip to end game quickly, but therefor in OSRS, the mid game doesn't suck and is just as enjoyable as the end game. RS3 just went down the route of neglecting everything but end game content, while OSRS adds a lot of content that is irrelevant for the end game. Like the Ruins of Camdozaal. I think that's the main reason OSRS is more popular nowadays. This and that it's not full of predatory p2w mechanics.
The high XP rates aren't a strict negative, even though they're a thing many OS players like to bash them for ruining the "accomplishment" of someone who gained 99s 10 years ago. High xp rates lower the barrier of entry If you want to get into OSRS bossing you need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your combat skills before that. If you want to slay some low to mid level bosses in RS3, you can take a fresh account and level it up enough in one evening. I actually asked an OSRS mate of mine to try out RS3, we leveled up his account for an evening in ED3 and went to some entry level bosses the next. It was fun but he decided RS3 wasn't his thing which I respected. Nevertheless, that wouldn't have been possible on OS xp rates
@@exantiuse497No wonder why he stopped. When u rush the leveling. And go directly to endgame. Ur ruining his progression, wich is the base of an mmo. New players should advance slowly. The faster u progress, the faster u get bored. When u eat a little, u want more. When u eat too much, u had enough. Its quite simple. And its the reason OSRS and old mmos were way more popular than modern mmos. They knew how to make an addictive game. Instead of a game u get bored in 1 week.
Something really important to point out in videos like this is you can play both RS3 and OSRS with the same account, you just can't play both games at the same time.
@@Turnpost2552essentially what's being said if you have a binded account with an email steam whatever else you can use to login don't need two separate logins to get access to both versions of the game whether that's osrs or Rs3 you can use either one with one main activated account but however you can not play osrs logged in with RS3 account you are only allowed to have of the two clients open and logged in at any one time. ( for instance you can't be afk skilling in osrs whilst actively bossing in RS3 at the same time the client doesn't allow it) I'll add if you have membership with either Osrs or RS3 your entitled to have membership across both games.
Coming back almost a month later from watching this initially and I just gotta say thanks a lot for convincing me to give RS3 a shot. Ironmanning on it has been a breath of fresh air, it's like experiencing Gielinor for the very first time again, even though this is technically the game I played in 2005 to 2009. Even managed to recover my very first account, but we're sticking to Ironman cuz I'm a hella gambling addict and I spent like 60 bucks immediately when I recovered that old account lmao.
Man, I can't believe the Jagex psyop worked and people are actually calling the world "GiEliNor". When you first experienced the world, it was not Gielinor, it was Runescape. That's why in the evil bob fishing event, the world you are transported to is "Scaperune" Not Norgieli or something. Gielinor sounds like some cringe-ass Lord of the Rings name from a made up language. We don't speak a weird language in Runescape, we speak English. So we should have English names like Angle-land, or RUNE-SCAPE. Dios f***ing mio!
J1mmy is honestly just super good as a voice in the RS community that for once isn't just moaning about EoC and RS3. Might actually inspire more to give it a chance and maybe eventually lessen the echo chamber hate everyone has for it
@@TheVenhammer Community really isn't that bad. They're mostly bitter that the OSRS community is so hateful to them. You can also just ignore the MTX. Just don't use them lmao
@@115UndeadAnarchy115 You can't ignore MTX, their presence factors into the development of the game. The game is literally designed around making MTX appealing, so the game is baseline going to be a worse experience if you don't engage with MTX. Given the choice, why wouldn't I just go with the game that doesn't have MTX, and therefore doesn't have a marred experience.
@@TheVenhammer It isn't designed around it though, the xp rates are either the same as OSRS or slightly better with newly added methods. If you want to spend money on xp, that's on you If you have no self control, it's your issue
@@115UndeadAnarchy115 Lol you're being so willingly ignorant. People can go from 1 to 99 extremely fast in RS3, J1mmy even made videos about it before. The game does not have the same design as OSRS. MTX in ANY game change how devs go about design, or else there would be no reason for the MTX to exist, so then again, why would I play a game that intentionally worsens the experience when I could just play a different game that doesn't have MTX? I love this fucking projection you're trying to pull as well. "You want to spend xp, that's on you" The whole point is that I DON'T want to do that, so I would rather play a game that doesn't have that option, that is designed around normal xp rates.
Yeah as one of the people who actually does play runescape for the lore and quests i will say rs3 is where you want to be, however i will say the quests that were created for osrs (i.e ones that are leading to payoffs that wont happen) are actually really good as well such as a kingdom divided and a taste of hope and in some cases its reallly interesting to see each team use the lore in different ways.
J1mmy I mean this in the most sincere way possible; Make more videos. I dont give a crap what kind of videos you make; whether its runescape, shooters, commentaries, I dont care. Your way of telling stories, your way of commentating, its the best thing. Make more essays, be creative and do whatever - just bring us along for the ride for the love of god Please. If I had the money Id shovel so much money into your patreon account and your youtube. I wish I could. Your content is what got me back into Runescape.
ur too big to see this but awesome video man. I started playing OSRS a couple days ago and its been hard to find videos on it that keep me engaged cause frankly most videos are about content I havent reached/even know about. Your videos are OSRS related but not too deep that newbies like me cant understand, so thanks broski.
Even playing RS3 as a new regular account is great. I don't feel at all constrained to doing meta strats because gratification is much faster to come by, I can take my time, do the more inefficient method and still get my results in a reasonable time frame. OSRS basically forces you to minmax if you want to complete anything in a timeframe realistic for an adult. And RS3's focus on story content really lets me immerse myself in the world like I used to as a kid.
as someone who just started on osrs a month ago and played like a 3 years on rs3, the start felt EXACTLY the same. no idea what to do without someone recomending a progression guide.
Hey wtf j1mmy first you kill me in the wilderness now your dissing the blender thumbnails what the heck man your lucky your so handsome and well groomed
I play on project 1999 it's a emulated everquest server that runs the original game and the 1st 2 expansions. The new player experience built into the game is atrocious it's a hard game and nothing is explained very well however the community that has been built around it is super kind and and is what has made me sink hundreds of hours into the game so far. Basically anyone you meet is willing to stop and help you out or explain something to you, experienced players stand in newbie zones giving buffs and free items all the time the community is really what makes the old mmos so great
My favorite thing about rs3 is all the quality of life improvements. Bank presets, massive amount of teleports, bossing hub, unlimited run energy, magic notepaper for bossing trips, etc. etc.
Presets would make OSRS playable, even if it came with a cooldown. I hate how much time it takes to change equipment every single time I want to do another skill.
started osrs 3 days ago, i tried rs but after seeing the player count i realized osrs was probably the better option to spend my time, the game absolutely reminds me of ultima online and im in love with it, experiencing everything for the first time and the community is so helpful
Same, I actually held off for many years because of the art style and that it technically is a flash game, but it’s just so brilliant. Everything feels so fine tuned and it’s easy to get into. To have a game that’s this many years old still have this many players just shows it’s an undeniable classic.
The ironman point is absolutely correct, I came back to playing RS3 to play an ironman and its a completely new game, it feels like the correct way to play RS3, suddenly all the progression makes sense
Ragnarok Online is like a 20 year old game that is really only played on private servers, and I only have about two months worth of game knowledge and I'm still learning so much about it. It helps my wife is a veteran of the game but there's an impressive amount of nuance to the mechanics
I started in 06 and have kept playing through RS3 because that's the account I started on. But you and other OSRS streamers have inspired me to keep grinding on OSRS. So I actively play both.
I checked yesterday and I have had my account for 7,605 days. May 29th 2004 was the day I moved to Gielinor and started on my lifelong journey. I played religiously all the way to the EOC where I promptly quit playing because the RuneScape that I knew and loved was murdered right before my very eyes. I was on my journey to 99 slayer which was cut short at level 86. It took me a while to move over to OSRS because all of the blood, sweat and tears that I put into my account would be completely gone. I started within a year of the release of Old School and played up to 2019 where I quit again after losing 1b at the duel arena. After my 5 year hiatus I finally decided to log back in and get the final 260k experience that I needed this past week. 99 slayer was something I always wanted from the day of the skill’s release and finally achieving 99 was more satisfying than I could have imagined. Now I’m going to continue finishing all of the quests! Remember, you NEVER really quit RuneScape, you will ALWAYS come back 😜
I like and enjoy them both. They're very different games at this point. I find RS3's combat more engaging but osrs gives me much more of that "anything is possible" feel, idk how to explain it
The combat style for RS3 was the last straw for me and caused me to quit playing. OSRS definitely gives off an "anything is possible" feel. I miss that sense of wonder I got from doing mundane things and walking around.
I like it when J1mmy talks at me about things. Also thank you for a non-biased view at both games. As an Rs3 Ironman player, I am glad you brought it up in the vid, I also tell everyone that will listen that it's the better way to play RS3 if you're seeking that feeling of achievement
I just downloaded RS3 last night and logged in with my 16 year old account, which hasn't been used since 2012. It's surreal seeing how familiar yet different everything is. I was f2p back then, but I finished every f2p quest. I logged in last night and I still have full Rune (and scimmy), fancy boots, an anti-dragon shield, and the food my classmate gave me for Elvarg. I only have 48 Attack, 50 Strength, 49 Defense, and 47 Hitpoints. I also only have 11 Prayer, which is 99 on my OSRS character. I mean, I was f2p back in RS2 so I got those levels by burying bones. It feels so weird playing this character again.
@marcellc6833 I just logged in using my old username (not email) and password from way back then. I'm also using the same account in OSRS but I had to make a new character in 2013. Hans dates my character back to March 2007 though. This also isn't my first account because I was playing since 2005, but I can't remember my original account.

In RS3 there will be more people bankstanding in the max guild then in the starting area of burthrop on 99% of the worlds. Saying its dead is a little hard because of how the existing rs community is. Typically you reach people in discord and go into instances. The rs 3 community is extremely tightly knit, to the point where if one account scams a preasul in a discord raid, all the major ones will have the player blacklisted within a day.
Yeah that’s what I’ve found too. There’s also very specific places that have very high concentrations of players like lumby market on w83 or wars retreat, or priff/maxguild and there’s definitely people talking there. Skilling spots too even I’ve had tons of conversations at places like artisans workshop or arch spots. I do think a clan is almost necessary for rs3 to get the full benefits out of the community but most of the clans I’ve seen are hella dope (s/o Asgarnian Empire)
Yeah god wars 3 as a dungeon is amazing for lorehounds because you get to see everyone from the enitre story in one place fighting together and you know who they are and why there are here
started off great but I think it ended a bit anti-climactically as they couldnt pull off such high stakes, was a really exciting time to play though im glad I was on RS3 to experience it
a massive selling point for rs3 for me is gear progression is amazing. you can instantly feel every upgrade you get whereas oldschool you dont really feel the upgrade as much
@@TheVenhammer you feel that power spike between every rs3 weapon tier. 60->70->80->90->92->95. whereas osrs you feel it once per combat style when you get bis. there is more of a presence in every upgrade.
@@TheVenhammer wow 3 steps where rs3 has 8. You can really feel the difference between abyssal whip and abyssal tent. Or the massive difference from tent to rapier/salad. You are pointing out jumping from dragon to bis. rs3's tier jumps are that same feeling and theres way more of those steps. Progressing gear in osrs is boring rs3s is chefs kiss.
They chose the "300 million players" tagline mainly for RS3 because despite what it is now, that is the version of the game that has existed, and/or evolved since classic. The OG players accounts are still there and intact, and so are the old items, and things like vet capes and untradable event items that make players feel special for being there from the beginning. OSRS has a more active and engaged player base for sure, they also have more bots for sure. Despite RS3 having a lot of issues, it is more accessible and the more modern paint job is more attractive to new players. Players who care about their original accounts and "prestige" or whatever you want to call it, prefer RS3. New players are more likely to be drawn into RS3 because it is not nearly as grindy/time sink, and looks better, and has a more familiar, modern "ability bar" (but IMO an inferior) combat system. The vast majority of people playing OSRS, are people who played back in the day, and have huge nostalgia, but never acquired or don't care about the legacy items or account cosmetics etc that "main game" players hang onto. New players are much less likely to be drawn to OSRS, even simple things like walking everywhere with limited run energy, compared to lodestones, practically unlimited run energy etc QOL that RS3 provides. OSRS players are one of two mindsets. 1. People who correctly recognise that RS3 is barely RuneScape anymore, and they want the old and unique experience they had when they were a kid. 2. People who genuinely love the grind, the game isn't objectively more difficult, in fact of end game PvM RS3 is objectively harder. But things like 99's skills, maxing accounts, diaries, questing etc while mechanically simple, are difficult through being tedious and time gated. The challenge (at least in PvE and account progression, PVP is a different beast.) isn't generally in things like quick reactions or physically demanding mechanical skill, the difficulty is in the players own mind, their endurance and fortitude, their battle against monotony, entropy, or bad RNG, that feeling you get when you finally reach a goal, or obtain a rare drop, that you have spent hundreds of hours grinding for, that dopamine burst, that validation that you rode out the grind, refused to quit, powered through until you succeeded. That is a feeling that is missing in a lot of games these days. But RS3 is the game where people who started playing in 2001 can flex their "veteran capes" and their discontinued items, the whole 300 million accounts marketing push had two targets. 1. The original players, from classic or RS2, as a flex of longevity rather than popularity. 2. A grab for new players, a disingenuous but technically true statement to create a facade of popularity and activity, to draw in new people.

mmorpg fun stories: came back to maplestory (sometime during covid) a game which i played from 2004 to 2012. Played a class that developers hated and decided to nerf it to the oblivion even though it already was bad, to the point that after 600h i was unable to do bossess that i could do after 30h of playtime on any other character, the only reason this game is alive is addiction by nostalgic people.
Yaaa... I never got into Runescape cause I was grinding maple at the time. These days maple is just a rush to end game with no real feeling of progression. Definitely gonna give OSRS a shot and see if I can get that spark again 🙏
@@pentaragon Kanna, removal of a lot of damage, into few 'fixes' that broke a lot of things, with a finishin touch of removing spawn enhancers from her skills on top of that this class still is unable to crit with her summons whiles getting +5% crit rate or dmg for leveling skills on 5th job.
I started playing OSRS at New Years from watching you and Settled. I am in a group iron man and it's... a ride but it's actually really gratifying. Thank you for your content and helping me resolve to flush my free time down the Gielinor toilet 😂
thank you for this! you're so unbiased and gave good points for both games, i was frustrated with other youtubers who clearly had biases so i really appreciate how informative this video actually is!
Just wanna mention since you said there's no microtransactions in OSRS, you can buy bonds which can MASSIVELY increase your progression especially in buyables and combat.
I don't know why this isn't mentioned enough. Most of OSRS players play at the GE as well. Nobody in either game is mining 100K+ ores to level smithing themselves. It's not just a RS3 thing. And the portable skilling/dummies are not efficient and people who actually care about skilling efficiently aren't spending money on treasure keys. It's mostly junk. You aren't getting 99s in anything in 2 hours. Maybe 20 hours and $10,000 later, but it's just not an efficient method and nobody does it.
No one ever talks about the 1996(Korea)/1998(North America) Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds. Which is probably why I only recently found out about it. It was created by Nexon the company who made Maple Story and is still running today(though by Kru Interactive in NA).
100% agree if anyone wants to try out RS3 do so as an ironman. But one main downside is the amount of dailies for upkeep as an ironman but other than that it's a lot more achievement fulfilling
RS3 combat goes incredibly deep. I've played it for like 6 months on ironman and understand like 10% of end game pvm. Really recommend it if u like challenge/learning new things.
I tried jumping back into Maplestory in 2024 after taking a break on my Lv 19X Kanna that I had quit like 10 years prior. I had absolutely no idea where I was anymore or what I had been doing (Probably mindless grinding). Uninstalled it like 2 hours later because it just felt so foreign. I had thought about starting on a new character with the new hyper leveling system they added, but it just felt like it went against the spirit of the game from back in the day to hit like level 140 in under an hour.
For me the biggest difference is: You will log in after a few years break. Sooner or later. And for Osrs you can just do that and continue like nothing happened. For RS3... You might as well log into any other mmo. It well never be the game you left.
On the achievements and buying capes, I think at least for me even though im not on an ironman my achievements became more personal. I have spent money on mtx but that was only for bank expansions and cosmetic sets never on keys. So when i get a 99 or any other achievement me and my clan have a little celebration, on top of that a lot of accounts on rs3 are older accounts or long term players so 99's become more meaningless on a time frame where high end players push for 200m xp and skills get upgraded to have content up to 120. Overall solid video though.
Rs3 has been improving, and in all honesty when I'm burnt out from osrs, I just get on rs3 and I enjoy the bossing, questing, graphics and I have been enjoying being spoonfed xp at ed3
as a newbie, I love the osrs interface and the community is so much fun. When I say something stupid to people they always answer me with the same stupidity and that's true perfection :D
The best and most rewarding part of rs3 is PVM the feeling of getting a big drop and making money or progressing your combat prowess is so nice, also the rs3 community is way less toxic, and if you find a clan, people are incredibly helpful and nice, the toxic community in rs3 is almost completely non existent which is likely due to the way lower population
@@eatmaaddy2 it’s really not, this is how I know you’ve never played rs3, the abilities are in rotation to give you the best ability damage per second, when you line up different abilities you get better damage or worse damage depending on the order
>is about pvm and that's great! >less toxicity This is almost a bot tier view of the things, and I play rs3. Not very different from OSRS players and their typical posts about "why OSRS is better!"
I installed RuneScape classic on the steamdeck the other day after not playing in years. Seeing lumbridge again was really nostalgic, but seeing nobody else there was melancholic. I missed the days you could jump on, chaotic chats everywhere, and do whatever...fun times :')
I can tell you how it feels to see lumbridge for the first time. I have a photographic memory and certain memories or moments in my life which held great significance to me, have an even greater range of memory for the event. I remember exactly the I finally convinced my parents to let me play the game everyone was playing. RuneScape! The year was 2007 and it was a cloudy day on spring break of fourth grade. I sat down and played through the tutorial island with the advice my friends gave me in mind. I was full of excitement and curiosity, every click of the mouse and every word of dialogue pulled me deeper into the world I had heard so much about. Then, as I clicked the final stroke of the mouse button and witnessed my character teleport in that old pixelated animation with the whir and whistle of the magical audio…. I saw it. A castle with gray walls of stone surrounding me, people with strange clothes and dances hollering in the grounds and streets. I took a moment to look around and felt something different than before on tutorial island. It wasn’t the anxious feeling of impatience and excitement. It was a feeling of awe, wonder, truly I was stunned in silence, by the time I had finished simply exploring and observing this incredible place called Lumbridge, I looked to the clock and saw that I had spent the entire 7 hours left of daylight just wandering around a fantasy town. That very moment, I knew that I would play this game for the rest of my life. I’m 26 years old now, divorced, father of 3. My son started his first account yesterday, the looks on his face, the silence (he’s never quiet), I saw the same things in him. Thanks for being so awesome, this story is my gift back to you for the incredible content!
I'm 25, divorced, with 2 kids and RuneScape has been my God damn life. Getting back into it like a month ago after years of not playing. It was a totally different feeling seeing my 2 play it for the first time. A feeling I won't ever forget.
I originally quit RuneScape when eoc came out, and came back years later when I’d found out revolution existed and they’d fixed the hp and such. I ended up getting a lot better at the game, and really appreciate the depth of the combat/pvm, and also that it still feels like RuneScape. I’ve tried osrs, but I just can’t get over how so much stuff feels like it’s inconvenient for the sake of it. A developer saying they felt like drop-x was a mistake is the sort of thing I’m talking about. I like that it feels like rs3 actually respects my time in comparison to osrs. The grinds in rs3 are still insane and give a lot to look forward to unless you play 8+ hrs a day for a few years. The PVM experience in rs3 is phenomenal, and if you can get over the initial aversion, feels great to play
As a osrs player, if u want the same feeling u had as a kid playing RS, start an rs3 ironman. Thats what I did after maxing my osrs iron and god damn, I dont think ive ever had as much fun exploring the game as I do today. The amount of incredible content released over the last 10 years is insane compared to osrs, the newer bosses and skills are on a whole other level. So much fun!
@@JuggerKnockers you missed the video didnt you. Cant p2w as an ironman. Btw, osrs has bonds, p2w babyyyyyy. Also rs3 is the only thing protecting osrs from major mtx for mains. Better hope rs3 stays as good as it is.
I just tried OSRS a few days ago, after several years of RS3 and I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere of it, I can see why so many people, new players and Runescape veterans alike like that game. Not saying RS3 is worse, the two appease different type of players and you can like and enjoy both. Buuut, OSRS feels more like an MMO than RS3 does.
I know I am reaching here, but wouldn't OSRS technically have a small form of P2W/Micro-transactions? The only form of P2W I will use on RS3 is buying a few bonds here and there and then selling them for in-game money. I believe you can do this on OSRS as well. Not a huge game breaker, but still a form of P2W.
I have a mid/high level Ironman in OSRS and it’s really quite fun. It’s actually a group Ironman (though my group hasn’t really played) but I can share my items with just the 3 other people in the group when they do decide to play
Iron man is great but it restricts you from a lot of content that you would otherwise access earlier. For new players, I would highly recommend a normal account as you will benefit greatly from having the ability to trade with other players and having acess to the gran exchange. Ironman is usually for people who have a decent understanding of the game. Of course, if you like a challenge then ironman is your thing, but it's going to be 1000x harder if you know nothing about the game.
You forgot the almost two-year span that Burthorpe was the starting zone for RS3. Which was really confusing for me, being a player from 2005 to 2008, then coming back to find this members-only zone with trolls and a grim color scheme now being a F2P area.
I enjoyed Ironman on RS3 for a while until I realized it turned into daily scape. logging in every hour,45 mins, 30 mins 15 times a day is the best way to gain EXP and it feels like a sin if you don't actively do the 20+ dailys

Not neccessarily worth getting invested in, but it worth just reading sometimes i guess.
oh come on the lore is so lame you can barely call it lore

The best way to enjoy RS3, I think, is as an ironman. Account progression is satisfying and attainable for just about all play-styles and you don't have to worry about treasure hunter. And regarding community, most players either find it in a clan or socialize in more heavily-trafficked areas. War's Retreat is usually pretty bumping. And with the new Fort Forinthry update, there's likely to be a lot of players there at all times.
This is what I tell all my OSRS buddies that want to give RS3 another try. Ironman gave RS3 a whole new breath of fresh air when Main-scape got old for me
I play IM RS3 as well, and if you want to talk to people, there are lots of friends chats, but I also regularly find people chatting around hubs (So yeah War's Retreat and Fort Forinthry). There are also several Ironman clans if that's your thing :)
Everyday i'm tempted to quit my main and play ironman, just sucks that i'm too far ahead with xp.
The light-hearted humor of OSRS made it so much fun.
i was laughing so hard about that line :')
Might actually be a Live-Ship trilogy reference since the ship Paragon is run aground and dragons are tied into the world
A ship gaining sentience, becoming depressed, and destroying itself is really one of the funniest damn things ever

Dont let me by them.
rs3 ironman is the best kind of runescape.

Omg!! This man is so beautiful!! I want to put my face next to the arch of his foot!!!!

Yes! I'm so glad more people are talking about this. Now that that generation of players are becoming adults and becoming a larger portion of players, we might one day see a OSHD mode in the game officially. 117 just isn't the same and HDOS isn't really finished. It would be nice to see an official HD client.

I agree bro, you're not going to like what you make if you don't like making it
Fun fact I started watching because of the other videos you made that were like this. By release is fun and everything but this is the kind of stuff that keeps me checking back in
Biggest RS3 tip: find a clan. You can bypass the crushing solitude and find people who genuinely want to socialize in-game.
im looking for a pvm clan, how can i find one?
Shadow Oasis tell em NSD sent ya.
Pvm bossing skulking and just overall fuckery all welcome. Except gingers. Ofc.
It is inefficient to talk to others
The hate mail, kill mail, inquiry mail, and threats made to my life have been saved offline and remain cherished to this very day
Holy shit that’s awesome

I didn't completely screw everyone, I'm still friends with some people, and I couldn't seize everything nor did I lock out equipment to most players that would gets scrapped by opportunists and the same people looking to screw me

If OSRS had the lore and quests that Runescape has, I'd never quit playing. Hoping they at least add some of the older ones like While Guthix Sleeps in the future.
hopefully
Its an alternative time line.
Agree. I love OSRS, but sometimes I wish there were more quests with good lore attached to them.
I don't neccessarily need to be "world guardian" or whatever that is. I like that you're just a regular adventurer with your own agenda and a simple mindset who just helps people for the fun of it.
And what do you know they just added it recently to osrs
You called it!
Holy moly that timing was perfect. I just heard of the game an hour ago and now started looking at the games. Then I found myselve with that dilemma and instantly found the video 1 hour after you posted it.
Which one did you choose?
Teke it easy and health awere
I hope you chose OSRS
i hope you choose RS3
I cant decide which one to start yet , never played Runescape before
You've ALMOST convinced me to play RS3 just for the quests.
I want old school, but it was dungeoneering which drove me into staying with the game towards the end.
i miss those times
As someone who plays both games but mostly plays RS3 I think you portrayed both games pretty well. I agree that ironman is the more rewarding way to play RS3, I only log into my maxed main to use my daily treasure hunter keys at this point. My hardcore ironman progression is leagues more fun than my main.
i would say the only thing he misses for rs3 is the endgame is quite expansive.
But did you enoy the journey to max on your main?
@@ianover6838 I did, but I'm enjoying it more on my hardcore.
That 'seeing lumbridge for the 1st time' hit hard. I was 7 years old man, 7 fricken years old... killing some chickens not knowing wtf I was doing but damnit I was having a blast
i first started in 2005 when i was 15 and from that first night that I played I was hooked, I'm still playing the damn game many years later at 34.
I have played both and nearly maxed my RS3 and recently started with OSRS and am about to hit base 70 ish and I have gotta say I love them both because I grew up with playing it back in like 2010 or something and stuck with RS3 and just started OSRS the past couple of months have been an absolute blast to play :D Love them both!
gz!
If you have a life, family, a job and responsibilities then play RS3.
If you have a lot of free time and stay home all day then OSRS.
Exactly they litterally left insane ed3 combat exp gains so you can get ur combat fast if u just wanna play and fight the really fun stuf
High xp rates lower the barrier of entry
If you want to get into OSRS bossing you need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your combat skills before that.
Something really important to point out in videos like this is you can play both RS3 and OSRS with the same account, you just can't play both games at the same time.
what?
@@Turnpost2552essentially what's being said if you have a binded account with an email steam whatever else you can use to login don't need two separate logins to get access to both versions of the game whether that's osrs or Rs3 you can use either one with one main activated account but however you can not play osrs logged in with RS3 account you are only allowed to have of the two clients open and logged in at any one time. ( for instance you can't be afk skilling in osrs whilst actively bossing in RS3 at the same time the client doesn't allow it)
I'll add if you have membership with either Osrs or RS3 your entitled to have membership across both games.
that has got to be one of the best ad intros ive seen in a youtube video

I mean dealbreakers for me is bs microtransactions and bad communities, and rs3 has both of those.

Part of the reason I personally love By Release so much is because you talk about the lore that I've missed the 15 times I've done each quest
Played osrs for around 3 years. Then switched to rs3 to give it a try for about 13 months. Honestly they're both alright. Pros and cons.
I quit gaming and fell in love with the woods now I train my skills irl. Gaming addiction is rough.
Broo is the perfect example of the love-hate relationship we all have with RuneScape
Best part that surprisingly didn't get mentioned -- If you get membership in one it applies to both games. :D
I didn’t know this. That’s really cool! Now I might actually give RS3 a try.
@@CC-bm3wbheck, the players clearly want it. RuneLite has it as a plug in and most people consider it a necessity.

Cool that ur open minded about, sadly alot of elitist on the osrs side whenever i bring up rs3

How did you get your old acc back?

@@pentaragon Might be Jet lmao
That "Oh good work.." during the like portion of the video actually makes me cry laughing everytime I hear it
For me the biggest difference is:
You will log in after a few years break. Sooner or later. And for Osrs you can just do that and continue like nothing happened.
For RS3... You might as well log into any other mmo. It well never be the game you left.
I love your vids jimmy! You, settled, and Framed all got me into OSRS and I can’t decide wether to love or hate y’all for it haha
"Old school has this but runescape 3 I don't know, it's something fancy." The whole video.
Thank you, I just started an R3 ironman (I played for a year when I was a kid). And yeah, I like the grindset, and am glad I watched your video man.
Rs3 has been improving, and in all honesty when I'm burnt out from osrs, I just get on rs3 and I enjoy the bossing, questing, graphics and I have been enjoying being spoonfed xp at ed3
Questing 💀
as a newbie, I love the osrs interface and the community is so much fun. When I say something stupid to people they always answer me with the same stupidity and that's true perfection :D
The best and most rewarding part of rs3 is PVM the feeling of getting a big drop and making money or progressing your combat prowess is so nice, also the rs3 community is way less toxic, and if you find a clan, people are incredibly helpful and nice, the toxic community in rs3 is almost completely non existent which is likely due to the way lower population
its because theres no pvp in rs3 saved u a click
@@eatmaaddy2 nothing wrong with no pvp, just like the pvm in osrs is watered down, rs3s pvm is incredibly complex and very fun pvm bossing
@@Tir33nts343 im saying the toxicity in osrs is mainly the pvp community. pvm in rs3 is just spamming abilities
@@eatmaaddy2 it’s really not, this is how I know you’ve never played rs3, the abilities are in rotation to give you the best ability damage per second, when you line up different abilities you get better damage or worse damage depending on the order
>is about pvm and that's great!
>less toxicity
This is almost a bot tier view of the things, and I play rs3.
Coming from your WoW video makes the first minute of this absolutely hysterical
Wow
You’re only 26 and divorced with 3 kids, that’s rough lol. You should be 46 with that life.
Wth is "Drop-X"?
As a osrs player, if u want the same feeling u had as a kid playing RS, start an rs3 ironman. Thats what I did after maxing my osrs iron and god damn, I dont think ive ever had as much fun exploring the game as I do today. The amount of incredible content released over the last 10 years is insane compared to osrs, the newer bosses and skills are on a whole other level. So much fun!
Rs3 is p2w sellout garbage.
I was 2 minutes in and realized I’d watch any video essay you make. Subbed.
Just a reminder. You don't quit RS, you just take a long break.
My hiatus is almost up
Kinda like meth
had like 240+ day break need another soon until summer if forest wc come out
try again
I finally quit in 2019 my main account and sold my whole bank for $2k gaming pc. Best decision👍🏽
I play both versions and genuinely enjoy both. I love the farming in RS3 for the animals, lol.

I loved that advertisement 😅
Ive never played runescape... might never play runescape... but i love video essays and yours was really good. thanks and also... nice shirt 🙂
This video is way better than a lot of the beginner type vids out there which are a bit hard to follow for brand new players.
I'm 6 hours into my first RS3 character, and I'm glad I stumbled upon this video now. I will now be restarting as an ironman. Thanks J1mmy!
So it's not the starting area anymore? I haven't played a fresh account in a long time.
@@Krankie_V Yes it is. I made a account 2 weeks ago and was confussed why i didn t start in Lumbridge..
@@Toku91 thanks for confirmation, I didn't think they changed it back.
@@Krankie_V I meant tutorial zone. Which it was from January 2012 to November 2013.
I enjoyed Ironman on RS3 for a while until I realized it turned into daily scape. logging in every hour,45 mins, 30 mins 15 times a day is the best way to gain EXP and it feels like a sin if you don't actively do the 20+ dailys
