By the age of 12, I was a car encyclopedia. I could identify the make of a car just by the sound of its exhaust as it drove by my house. In the '70s and '80s, my parents relied on me to check out all their potential new cars before they made a purchase. But still love Gremlin and AMC

Boy the commentator got a lot of things wrong. This is what happens when inaccurate stories are repeated again and again. The SV-1 was quite good looking for its era. It was poorly assembled simply because it was underfinanced and attempting to use bath enclosure materials for the outer skin of the car. Something not done before or since. With more money Ford or GM might well have been able to make this car work. The workforce is often blamed, yet some of the assembly workers were actually working in the Ontario big three plants, and returned to New Brunswick in hope of having a job close to family. In other words they were experienced autoworkers who knew how to build cars. They just had a lousy company, completely underfinanced to work for.

Really? The 1970 Riviera was unattractive, but the 1971 boat tail version was beautiful? That was one of Buick's worst botched styling abortions. It's hilarious that you (correctly, IMO) find the 1971 TBird beak to be ugly. But, honestly, it just transferred an ugly boat tail to the front and made it an ugly beak. BTW, On Porsche: It's pronounced por shuh, not porsh. On the Pacer, yes, quite unusual styling that didn't appeal to all. I, however, liked it when it came out and continue to like it for its aerodynamic shape and great interior space utilization. On all the others, I largely agree.

I'm not into non American cars, so I will overlook those. The ugliest American car of the 1970s was the 1979 Foxbody Mustang. The '78 and '79 Monte Carlo wasn't pretty, but I wouldn't call it ugly either. The Bricklin, while not made in America, used a lot of American parts. While it was a flawed car, it was absolutely gorgeous and is a highly sought after collector today. The Mustang II, both versions, were beautiful. Maybe their beauty is what made the hideously ugly Foxbody Mustang so disgusting. The Gremlin and Pacer were two of the coolest cars ever. The Olds Cutlass and Buick Century Aeroback cars were not pretty, and wouldn't have been my choice for a car. But as far as being ugly, the disgusting Foxbody Mustang has them beat by a mile. Oh and while the earlier Thunderbirds were certainly not ugly, the '77-'79 Thunderbirds were probably the most beautiful cars Ford ever made. "imf" bumpers? LB doors? You need to improve your AI. You should also probably pick some other topic besides cars, which you seem to know almost nothing about.
Wasn't Gremlin an air-force term for a mysterious fault on an aircraft ? So unexplained it could only be the work of destructive creatures ?.I seem to recall church carparks being full of Vanden-Plas 1500s . The Robin was merely different exploiting a legal loophole that classed it as a motorcycle and side car thus cheaper to tax and insure and enabling motorcycle licence holders to drive one with out taking a car test.

Great point! The Datsun B210 definitely had a polarizing design, with its unique 'fastback' look and compact size that stood out against the muscle cars of its time. But what’s really interesting is how it earned a reputation for being reliable and fuel-efficient during the 1970s oil crisis, which was a big factor in its popularity. While it may not have had the muscle car styling, it helped shape the direction of economical cars in the U.S. Let's keep the conversation rolling! What are your thoughts on other '70s cars with unconventional designs? Be sure to comment, share your insights, and don’t forget to subscribe to Muscle Car Masters for more in-depth car discussions!

It's interesting to hear your take! While the Leato's design might not be everyone's favorite, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. As for the Datsun, I totally agree-swapping out the stock rims can make a huge difference in its appearance. Car enthusiasts often personalize their rides, and rims are one of the easiest ways to elevate the look. Glad to hear you'd be proud to drive most of these cars!
@@CookeZachery Thanks for your thoughtful comment! You're absolutely right-personalizing a car, especially with new rims, can transform its entire look.

Yeah, AI is always wrong and UGLY !!!

Datsun B210 was butt ugly
Great point! The Datsun B210 definitely had a polarizing design, with its unique 'fastback' look and compact size that stood out against the muscle cars of its time. But what’s really interesting is how it earned a reputation for being reliable and fuel-efficient during the 1970s oil crisis, which was a big factor in its popularity. While it may not have had the muscle car styling, it helped shape the direction of economical cars in the U.S.
Let's keep the conversation rolling! What are your thoughts on other '70s cars with unconventional designs? Be sure to comment, share your insights, and don’t forget to subscribe to Muscle Car Masters for more in-depth car discussions!

only that leato is realy ugly the other are not, put a few nice rims under that datsun and it looks way better those stock rims are ugly, i would drive except one all these cars in a heartbeat and be proud of it.
Totally agree! A nice set of rims can transform a car’s look, especially with the Datsun. It's amazing how such a simple change can elevate the style. And yeah, while the Leato might not be everyone's cup of tea, the rest are definitely head-turners. I'd be proud to drive any of them too!
It's one of those small changes that can really make a big impact. And I agree, while not every design is for everyone, it's all about individual taste. That’s what makes the car community so great-there’s room for all styles and preferences. Glad to see we share the same appreciation for these classic rides!
