I think the Triumph TR7 did not look ugly at all. It had a wedge shape, but I don't think it fits in the ugly category. I think you should have included the AMC Pacer and the Pontiac Aztec.
The side styling crease bears no relationship with the striking wedge shape. It’s advisable for a European 2-seat sports car to look either cute or purposeful. The TR7 managed neither very well.

There were plenty of cars on this list that are truly unique but not all were ugly. The 58 Ford Thunderbird Convertible and the 58 Lincoln Continental were actually pretty sweet looking with the top down. That's saying a lot considering that I really don't like the style of cars from that era. The 76 Aston Martin Lagonda is a beautiful car for its day.
Absolutely. I have seen a few, having grown up near their factory. One of the things about them is the sheer SIZE. They are astonishinly big, so much of the impression you get from photos is completely and absolutely wrong. The Lagonda was/is magnificent. Pity about the (pretty much) useless electronics. They would have been difficult for a company the size of Ford to do, but timy Aston Martin? It was always a bit of a pipe dream.
thunderbird, continental and matador are actually beautyful lombardi, trumph, camargue and cimarron are alrighty mantis and lagonda are oki and rest is pretty okay as well. still better than overfuturistic pile of crap that is designed nowadays
With exception of the Subaru (Who has always produced unattractive buckets of garbage, anyway) ALL of those cars look better than anything made since the late 80's- early 90's. Even that ridiculous Cimarron. That T-Bird, Continental, and Matador are on my list of luxury cars I'd like to own. The European stuff is a little odd, but not ugly. Of course, most European vehicles are a little odd, anyway. That woody wagon thing was particularly cool. American auto design of the 50's- 70's was the best (though, the 60's did go through a boring period)
YOU may not like the Square Birds, but the public loved them; 1958 sales were up 54% from 1957, and Ford actually made a profit on the cars for the first time. Plus, the '55-'57 Birds were no better than the Square Birds to drive, as they were based on a 2-door Ford sedan. Now, the TR-7 has not aged very well, but neither have very many 1970s cars. Properly serviced, it was not a bad car and sold very well in the US because it was specifically tailored to that market (had great A/C, which was virtually unheard of in a sports car then). And it was far less rust-prone than any of its Italian competitors. But it was a bit tricky to service properly, especially the odd head bolts. The Cimarron would have been a big hit as an Olds or Pontiac...but it wasn't really a Cadillac, and the buying public could tell.
The Pontiac Aztec was stunningly ugly. It would make you burp every time you see it. I always thought it looked like an aphid, those nasty little green bugs that attack Roses.

Yes, the hardtop TR7 didn't sit well on the eye, but when they eventually got round to removing the roof it was transformed. That's not to say it was a great car though. It should have had the 16V Sprint engine (from the early 1970s - talk about being ahead of the game!) which made the Dolomite Sprint such a great drive, but for some reason it was instead gifted with a very ordinary 8V lump that did it no favours. And the V8 version was almost non-existent in reality.
I would love to know where you got this list? There are some cars on your so called ugly list that shouldn't be on here. Thunderbird really? You lost me on that one.
The proportions of the Marlin stem from AMC CEO Ray Abernathy wanting the car built on a longer wheelbase than originally planned. Plus he wanted enough headroom to wear a hat. The one year 67 Marlin actually looks pretty good.

Uh... some of these cars are, while maybe uglier than other models in the same series, definitely not even close to the ugliest cars ever made. Yes, a few of them are weirdly proportioned, but you've missed some (basically, a lot) of actually ugly cars. Quirky design features are not inherently ugly, even though they might not ressonate with either their own time, or modern design. The Lagonda? The Lincoln? The Thunderbird? Even the old Stout Scarab? The Cadillac Cimmaron? None of these are inherently ugly. You didn't include the Ssang Yong Rodius. The Fiat Multipla. The Troll. The Ford Scorpio MK2... so many to chose from, that are WAY worse than these.
Hi Dino. Thanks. I love your presentation and choice of descriptive phrases. You managed to select the Most Truly Ugly Cars of the 20th in one place. Now how about the Most Truly Ugly 21st Century (so far) Cars? Of which there are some real doozie's.
The AMC Marlin looks great from the back. The front needs work and the side view just kills it. way too long. If you take about 6 inches from the length from behind the door and the roof. over the driver's seat I think the side profile would be good. Might need a slight chop too.

@@maikschlo3613 Thank you for the insight. It bothers me greatly to see American companies lacking the foresight to develop, create and deliver quality products for deserving customers domestic and abroad.
WILLIAM DURANT had a vision when he consolidated BUICK and the various other brands into GM, and joked of the variety of vehicles to "carry you from the cradle to the grave "
@@nealbradleigh5069. ..
My mom had a Cimarron and I thought it was a fine looking and quite fun car to drive. Sure it wasnt a pretty car but for ugliest car I would place it in about the 200th place. lol.
And you didn’t mention the Aztec?
Ditch the robo voice. mispronounces WAY too many words!
We're looking into making the voice overs more authentic in the future. For now they'll still be a little 'robotic'. Appreciate the feedback
Everyone has their own opinions man.... some of those I wouldn't consider ugly at all and I dunno what vehicle that is in the thumbnail but I think it is downright sweet looking
I agree.
The thumbnail is a Brubaker Box. It's a kit car.
Most of these were rather Cool!
AMC stayed in the polycarbonate fray, with the JAVELIN and AMX iterations (there was also an impressive AMX/2 prototype that never made production)
PONYCAR, DAMMIT- NOT POLYCARBO....WHATEVER!
I so HATE stupid software assuming it's smarter than me!

AMX/3
Looked as good as the 66 and 67 Charger as far as I'm concerned! Or the Ford Torino of the same time.
Pontiac Aztec
You missed the car that Ford named for his son.
I'm happy to report that GM only has 1 car on this list.MeanwhilstFord has a few and there could have been more.HOW Edsel didnt make the list is unreal.I'd drive any of these except imports or Fords on list.Hey,they DO have an "ugliest dog" contest.
I had a 60 Thunderbird (same style as the 58) and it looked COOL, you insect!
I would take any of these over a Multipla that one should be the ugliest.
I agreed with every entry except for the Triumph TR7 which I have on two of. You dropped the ball on that one.
The TR8 was an improved version.
Hideous car
Uh... some of these cars are, while maybe uglier than other models in the same series, definitely not even close to the ugliest cars ever made.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I think most of these vehicles are not ugly. Probably just the announcer.
The announcer is a robot, but the writer might be ugly.
The Aston Martin Lagonda was in my opinion a very nice artistic design...
The Aztec better be here 😊
Who's to say what's 'ugly'.... Several in this video are so much more beautiful than any car that is more popular to the populus....
Hi Dino. Thanks. I love your presentation and choice of descriptive phrases. You managed to select the Most Truly Ugly Cars of the 20th in one place. Now how about the Most Truly Ugly 21st Century (so far) Cars? Of which there are some real doozie's.
Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate the great idea! The video will be up in November 👍
The AMC Marlin looks great from the back. The front needs work and the side view just kills it. way too long. If you take about 6 inches from the length from behind the door and the roof. over the driver's seat I think the side profile would be good. Might need a slight chop too.
This has to be my favourite comment 🤣🤣🤣
Amen. Pontiac aztek and that other Cadillac that has the weird back end
I owned a TR7. Loved it.
On the Plus side, car thieves would skip past most of these, too easy to recover....IMHO
Ridiculous.
