MY PORSCHE CAYMAN HAS MORE FAULTS | Porsche Running Costs | 4K

  • In this video I use a cheap OBD Wifi reader that connects to an iPhone to read some fault codes that my Porsche Cayman 987 has. For new viewers to the channel this is my 2006 Porsche Cayman 987.1 3.4 S which in recent years has had a full engine rebuild due to having the dreaded bore score. The whole engine needed to be reconditioned with new liners ect. This does not seem to have stopped the problem however, the car is now showing some faults and is not driving that well. Although I don't think the bore score has returned I do feel there is something quite wrong with the car and I can't wait to get it sorted.
    As I said in this video, by the time this video goes live the Cayman will more that likely be in the garage or at least waiting for parts but I thought before that I would plug in a really cheap OBD reader I purchased of Ebay a few years ago and see what codes come back, this will give me a little idea on what to expect.
    In this video I used the WIFI OBD reader on my iPhone, I used dash command which is available on the App Store. These clever little devices can be bought for android too but as far as I am aware you need to get the WIFI version for the iPhone. Here's the link to a similar reader to the one used in the video www.amazon.co....
    The faults found in the video are as follows
    P0030: The P0030 is an OBD trouble code that refers to the engine's primary oxygen sensor malfunctioning. The exhaust chute of your car houses the oxygen sensor (HO2S). It is responsible for monitoring the ratio of exhaust emitting from the vehicle at any given time.
    P0134:Code P0134 indicates that oxygen sensor 1 on engine cylinder bank 1 is malfunctioning. This sensor monitors the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases.
    U040: This code is logged when modules on the data network are receiving implausible data from the ECM/PCM. Modern vehicles use a data network that allows vehicle control modules to communicate with each other.
    The air fresheners can be found via ‪@DriftMist‬ they have an online shop where if you use my code below you will get 10% off!
    Code: JOE
    Lastly I would like to make a special mention to ‪@caffeineandmachine‬ we had the most wonderful stay before heading to the SMMT the following day which you will see the start of the journey in this video. The rooms are beautifully designed and the staff working there are super friendly and welcoming. If you haven't been to Caffeine & Machine yet then you need to make the trip. #cultofmachine #yardlife

    Hoping the gremlins were few and the problem is solved with the Cayman. If I get to go to England at sometime, I'd like to go to one of the events at Goodwood and the Isle of Man also. My grandfather on my mothers side was an engineer in Birmingham before coming to America back in 1915, settling in New England.

    I've had my 07 Cayman S for a year and I had to replace the shifter cables and the clutch, which I abused trying to limp the car home in 5th gear. The PASM button doesn't work and the button to raise and lower the wing doesn't work either. But I have taken the car on 5 and 7 hour trips and it runs flawlessly.

    Heater control circuit is to do with the O2 sensor, I think. The O2 sensor has a heater part.

    I am an audi TTS MK2 fan, bimbo brakes, similar weight to porsche , more storage space for touring, quattro system , you can see the corners, nice interior trim , no Bore scoring. Struggling to see why most car experts dismiss them, when so many other cars have big issues. I like the look of the Cayman but car ownership should be hassle free.

      Huge fan of the TTS. I know what you mean, I think it comes down to the badge. Car experts will always go Porsche as it’s seen to be the best. Granted nothing drives like one, having driven a TTRS and my Cayman there is no contest. However from an engineering point of view, Audi has this hands down. Porsche can be problematic.

      I have owned both TT and Porsche,Porsche is clearly better, prestige apart, however if cost effective car is your priority then the TT is your car, Porsche is a true adventure and extremely reliable for a sports car when paired with the likes of Ferrari. Porsche has that iconic midship flat six box engine and it far more exotic that a four pot with bolt on blowers. The TTRS is a better comparison I suppose.

    I have the same generic obd reader, you can get apps that will show some live data from sensors like the lambda. If you can interpret this data you can see where to start investigating a fault eg is it the sensor or wiring to the sensor?
    Good luck with getting it fixed and thanks for the video updates👍

    • @kw8757
      @kw8757 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably best just swapping out the post cat sensor, not really a difficult job just a bit fiddly unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one, and the sensor can be a bit seized in the cat,so heat and patience will help.

  • @MarcelSipkema
    @MarcelSipkema ปีที่แล้ว

    Told you earlier is most likely the second 02 sensor or the catalytic convertor

    It is no a brand new car but 15 years old. We need to fix it. Once everything has been sorted out, you will enjoy it for a while and then it happens again due to the age. It is normal for old car ownership.
    The car has been depreciated so much. So we gain from that but we need to loose by fixing it. Look on the bright side, you never pay for fixing it to be its original price. Of course sometime it is more than the current price of this model, especially Porsche. Some parts are expensive and the sum of bills keeping up. Keep watching from your experience since I am looking for Cayman 987 as well.

    I love Porsches, but they are money pits. And don't come at me with excuses about how Joe's car is old or whatever. A friend of mine has a '14 Cayman he's owned since new, and I'm horrified by the cost of routine maintenance. Not to mention actual repairs. I don't understand the fanboy adulation these cars get when they break so often, and cost so much. I love cars, and i can afford pretty much any one i like, but I'd rather do other less stressful fun stuff with my money. My fun car is a convertible Toyota Camry Solara. Great gas mileage. I sleep easy at night. Reliable. And i can funnel my money into building wealth, and enjoying life.

      Porsches do not like to cold start in cold climates.
      No wonder almost all complaints about Porsche cars come from UK and northern countries.
      Plus you guys over there have some issues with taking proper care about things: I’ve never seen cars so desperate for attention like UK cars.
      Most of you leave cars rotting outside with rain and moisture, not mentioning the amount of salt damage on the underside.
      It’s a car not a tank.
      In Italy when we get UK sportscars 99% they are rust buckets.
