  • In this video I am going to explain what is wrong with my car, all its faults and niggles that I need to fix in order to bring my Porsche Cayman 987 back to its former glory. I have owned the Porsche for 2 years now, since having an engine rebuild due to bore scoring it emptied all my my savings meaning some parts of the car have been neglected and it is now time to sort out a plan for getting these things fixed over the next few months.
    In my previous video with my Cayman 987 I asked everyone about what modifications I should complete on the car, it was always meant to be a standard car but since fitting the Zunsport grills to the car I have got the modifying bug back and feel it is time to make this car more unique and more me. You guys have been voting in the comments which is amazing as I want to make this car as much of a community build as possible.
    In this video I reveal not only what is wrong with the car in terms of faults but also what is annoying me about the car. I will then breakdown what I will fix first and then finally talk about what modifications I am going to start with on the Cayman going by the latest figures from the vote.
    I have some huge plans for this car, 2023 is going to be a huge year for my Porsche Cayman 987 with the amount of adventures and changes planned so please make sure if you haven't already please make sure to hit that subscribe button so you don't miss a single upload. I am within touching distance of 3000 subscribers on here and that is just so exciting, so humbling and I want to thank you all for your continued kindness and support over the last 2 years.
    Thank you once again and here is to an amazing 2023!

    Hello Joe. No matter what you have to fix I still see you are enjoying your car. The outside issues are just character scars that the car has acquired through the years. Listen, no sense spending lots of money to convert the car to a pristine example only to then be afraid of getting dings, road rash, etc. Fix the sensor, change the radio buttons, and get yourself an exhaust that is not too loud but not too expensive. At this point if your car is like mine (105 k and counting) you wont be making a killing selling it. You are just driving it for the enjoyment until it drops (waiting for mine to keel over to get that 3.8 or 4.0 engine). Enjoy the car and thanks for the videos.

      Love this point of view! I do think the marks and battle scars have come from using it properly. I’ve done loads of miles and great drive outs with other Porsches. The club I’m in drive them properly. I think you are right, get the light sorted, buttons and get an exhaust. Sounds good to me. Mind you the wheels are pretty bad now. Thanks for the comment! Glad you are enjoying the videos.

    I would fix the warning light issue, touch up the stone chips in the front bonnet, touch up the rusty, bubbling paint by hand or professional powder coat as you are planning. Not worry about the slight dent in the bonnet, or the radio buttons. I believe your oil is over filled, and to my knowledge it is better to have the oil to the 67 to 75% full mark so as to not over work the air/oil separator.
    I would not make it a perfect car so that I could drive it more and not worry about picking up minor imperfections or how many miles are on it. The main thing to me is to enjoy driving it, and it is fantastic, more important than what it looks like. Just my opinion. We should each enjoy our cars our own way. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Joe if you don’t already have one I would highly recommend you get hold of an ODB2 code reader. You can get one for only around £20. Then you can read (most of) the error and warning codes without the expense of going to a specialist. Some codes can flag up temporarily and you may be able to reset them yourself. Others will indicate a fault which does need fixing. Either way, one of these readers is invaluable. I owned a 996 and then a 997 and I don’t know what I would have done without one.

    Hi Joe, the check engine light can be caused by the second pair of 02 sensors for catalytic convertor, because they don not function right they do not get the right information of the mixture of air and gas. You can solve that by using little mini catalytic convertors on the second pair of 02 sensors, they place the 02 sensors a bit further away from the exhaust gases.

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a Boxster S 2007, it was wonderful, no faults at all, but I was wary due to the potential IMS issue. Anyway I got rid of it before it reached 50K miles, then stupidly got a mint low mileage 2012 Mercedes SL350, it was forever going wrong. This led me to the only logical refuge from German sensors, a Lotus Evora which has been great. However, I still see a 911 in my future, an itch to be scratched. There is something special about Porsches and the boxer engines, but German reliability… well that’s less special, a myth perhaps.

    • @JoeTalksCars

      Yeah got to agree on the German reliability 🤣 not all that it cracked up to be. Heard lots of similar stories on SL Mercs. I’d love one but can’t beat a little Porsche badge. I’ve got a 987 Boxster S, recently changed the exhaust for a design tech sports exhaust, sounds amazing and has increased the horsepower. Body work is always an issue in this country with the roads being so poor, mine needs attention in places as do the wheels, 20 inch low profile that look a bit curbed, they’re not because we haven’t got curbs this side of Wales 😂 There is always something to do as you’ve found, but this is the longest I’ve ever kept a car because they are so good! Temp issue (assuming the obvious and that the sender has been replaced already) is potentially related to what's been unplugged and plugged back in during engine out jobs. Could be a dirty and/or loose connection. Wiring diagrams will tell you where to look but RPM should know what they're doing on that front.

    I find owning the Porsche cayman 987 like you for the past 2 to 3 years is expensive but not excessive and certainly worth it. Just as you keep on top of regular maintenance and just get things fixed early on when they do go wrong.
