They were all great. What a lovely bit of music. The ibanez was my favourite which I didn’t expect. Followed by the 2nd D’Angelico.

They all sounded wonderful to me. What I loved about this video is the demonstration of tone for different sounds. I just got a Gretsch for ambient stuff because I love the high-end crispiness that pierces through delay and reverb. Thanks for the video.

They all have unique nuances and every one of them sounds great in the hands of a master. Absolutely love this piece of music. I hope it’s something that will appear on your next album. Beautiful!

Love my Strats for ambient music, so versatile.

Classic vibe Strat for me on this one. Great timing as I was just thinking of this question today.

If I’m not mistaken, he’s added Fishman pickups to that guitar.

It all sounded great to me. There was a hypnotic effect in the music. Just listening, not watching, I could not tell that the guitars changed but one time.

To my surprise I'm partial to the Ibanez. Great video 👍

Far Out. You kept your QX54. I based some of my purchase on your video and the clean sounds it produced. Thanks so much for all you do. It's appreciated! Best Regards and Best Wishes!

The D'Angelico's gentle resonance suits the piece nicely. Something I've discovered with pickups for ambient use are Epiphone's recent Les Pauls with coil split ProBuckers (not coil tapping as found in the Gibsons) which gives you the chime of a single coil but the bass of a humbucker, can get pretty massive. Sounding amazing as always 🎸👍

I really liked to sound of the D'Angelico deluxe baritone on first listen. Nice tune.

I lean toward liking the lower tuned guitars myself....but they all sounded great in your hands.

They all sounded great… I don’t think I could pick a favorite. I believe you could make a piece of dental floss sound good Bill.
The 12 string was my least favorite sounding but still sounded good.

Another vote for the big D'Angelico box from here. Lovely acoustic-ish tone which keeps it from all getting too muddy. It also looks fabulous. . But these things are subjective; here the LP didn't fare so well, but is anyone going to tell Fripp to stop?
What *is* interesting is just how similar they all sound once the distortion comes on!
I'd also say that for the outlay, this shows the benefit of virtual guitars such at the Roland system. I have an old VG-99 and it'll have a fair go at replicating most of these, even down to the tunings.

There used to be a saying in the camera community that the best camera is the one that you are holding. I believe the same thing applies to guitars. Somedays I have a better vibe with my Tele, on other days its with an LP.

Man, I have eight guitars. none of them collectable or anything. I got them because of the sound. How each one has its own voice. I have a Michael Kelly Phoenix Patriot, Godin Sessions, Fender Telecaster, Dan Electro Baritone, Eastwood Resonator, Hagstrom HL 550 Dean Bocca 12 string, and an Ibanez SG style guitar that I am going to have my way with and do some interesting, ambient inspired artwork to. Each guitar, even the Ibanez SG has an interesting tone in its own right.

They all sound great! But there's something particularly soothing in a neck humbucker.

I think I liked the telecaster most. I was surprised by how much I liked the les paul, I sometimes write them off. The (semi?) hollow D'Angelico was also an interesting feel.

These are all good guitars and they all sound good. All of these guitars have their own character. For my taste the Ibanez and the second PRS baritone are my favorites. 😊

I remain obsessed with your PRS baritones. I love P90s. But that Ibanez always shocks me given how it really isn’t a type of guitar or sound I would normally go for.

I assume you covered this elsewhere, but I am intrigued by your four string capo. Is this commercially available for electric guitars? If you have covered this elsewhere, could you provide the link. Thanks.

Upon first listening, at least the first few, did sound pretty simular. That should not be surprising, because of your magic threesome at the start of the pedalboard: Compadre, Riverside, and Iridium since these are providing a standard tone for the actual effects you use.
Then, as the sequence progressed, small differences became more clear. The most obvious being the 12 string Reverend Airwave.
Did a second run of the sequence, to concentrate on the differences and perform a first rating. First of all, complements for this piece and how you play it: building a loop in the first 30 seconds, then soloing over it with the higher strings in the second 30 seconds.
    Ibanez QX:
    - The lower strings used fo create the loop seem to mix with each other, creating a wood of picked low tones.
    - This of course affects the second piece where you solo over it. Although the solo is much brighter it does not stand out as much due to the mumble and rumbling of the loop.
    Gibson Les Paul:
    - Much brighter, and the individual notes are more isolated from each other. Liked this one very much, a pleasure to listen to.
    Fender Telecaster Baritone:
    - Similar to the Les Paul, but with a slight difference due to which there is still more separation between the notes and a larger frequency range. All due to your love for baritone guitars, which could immediately be recognized in this piece. i guess the longer neck and octave up for A and D are causing this. Sounded right at home.
    D'Angelico: poor thing!
Very well played, but somehow seemed very flat, no distinctive character or feature made itself prominentely aware.
    Reverend Airwave, 12 string:
When well played, like here, it sounds like a heavenly guitar duet. When constantly used in an evening long performance it becomes an overload to the senses, which should be avoided. The playing and pedals used clearly whisper "Bill, it's Bill playing" in my ear, but i'm also hearing Steve Howe during a live performance of Yes's Close to the Edge (which also is an ambient album, isn't it?)
    Squier Strat:
A tiny little better than D'Angelico, but not much. Sounds flat and lacking character to me.
    PRS Baritone:
Very much like the Ibanez and D'angelico, except it had more character and a warm lower string part.
    D'Angelico Baritone:
Still not exceeding in character, but certainly in some brilliance. An unexpected surprise after the first D'Angelico and the PRS Baritone.
    Fender Stratocaster:
Sounded exactly like it is intended to sound, except when your name is Jimmy H. or Ritchie B., in which case it also sounds like a stratocaster should.
So for me, for what it's worth, when each of these would be a unique part of a live performance, the Ibanez would be at the lower end, i'd be really disappointed. At the top end would be the Reverend Airwave (#1), the Gibson Les Paul (#2), and the Fender Stratocaster (#3). Actually i would have enjoyed all performances, except for the Gibson.
But Bill, in addition to all of the above i discovered a gift in this video. Not only for me, but likely for anyone. And the gift is: listen closely, listen to the details, listen to differences in instruments within the ambience you set with your pedals. i usually tend to do that only in the mastering phase, and then only with different sets of speakers. That's too late! You should have the details right as you want them before finishing each track.
Thanks for a great demo and a big education in this. Wonderful!
