    Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am a rock musician (and at heart a jazz head...) who is making the transition to writing for a potential television series that is in the vein of 'Top Gear' but more than just cars...This music is beautiful and has always been a complete mystery to me. You have really opened my eyes and ears.
    I believe that really good music is not only heard, but felt. There has been some atmospheric music that has moved me to tears because it was so expressive and beautiful...

    can't break the rules if you don't know them

    • @alphanumeric1529
      @alphanumeric1529 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure you can! Most rules are like you can't do this, but you can do anything else. Music rules are different, they state, you can only do this, and nothing else, if you want to sound "musical". So doing ANYTHING is almost guaranteed to break the rules. It is one in a million, or 10 billion, you do the maths (how many notes on a fret board x notes -1 x notes - 2 x notes -3 all that multiplied by (notes - 2 x notes - 3 x notes - 4 x notes - 5)^3 ... that's gonna be one in quintjilllion) to randomly pick 4 notes in combination for a chord, then another 4 notes in combination, then another 4 notes in combination, then a final 4 notes in combination to form a 4 chord progression that is within the chosen scale/key. Get me? You'd have a better chance of tap dancing on meth through a minefield than to play a 4 chord progression in key! So, everything else would be breaking the rules.
      So, what's a better statement of this cliche? Because there is truth to the notion, but how to better capture the idea in language to reveal that truth?

    You forgot the shimmer! Lol! So overused, but beautiful in occasional context. As always, Antoine, a thoughtful and helpful video.
    One thing I think about when playing ambient for the public (and not for other ambient musicians) is that the average listener doesn’t know what sounds and approaches are ordinary or overdone. They just hear it as beautiful. A common comment I get as an ambient street musician is that listeners tell me they can’t believe a guitar is making all of these beautiful sounds. So if we look at what you say in the context of comparing one’s playing with other ambient players on TH-cam, you’re dead-on correct! 👏🏻 But consider the people who your music reaches outside of this community. They hear it as meditative, regardless of the approach.
    Myself, I find my ears need more non-diatonic harmony floating around and a melody that recurs against ever-shifting chords. We have to keep ourselves entertained too! ✌🏻

      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @bohenian
      @bohenian 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the same question. I found out that there's a switch to kill dry inside the pedal. A problem arises when you need the dry sound again. Lol. I do think you can turn it off via software (toneprint) and have a specific reverb preset that has no dry sound. Or program your mash to kill the dry sound when pressed (regardless of pressure). I haven't done it yet. Just got the pedal but I think (?) I've read enough.
