One of the coolest ambient guitar tricks I learned was from Steve Hillage. He used a wah pedal, overdrive and delay, maybe some flange. He uses the wah as a filter, slowly cranking the wah back and forth. It creates a sound like an analog synth with the filter slowly opening and closing. I actually did think it was synth for a long time, but then finally realized what he was actually doing. there's so much that can be done with ambient guitar with very little gear. Even just overdrive, delay and a volume pedal can do a *ton*
Interesting. I gravitate towards plainsong/psalm tones such as Dies Irae, Pange Lingua, or Tallis' 3rd psalm tune (the inspiration for Ralph Vaughn Williams' Variations)
I've tried this before with a couple of old folk tunes, but I didn't consider how the structure of some originals will lend themselves better to Frippertronics than others. I have fallen into the muddy chord trap many times. It took me a while to simplify the chords. As for variations, I wonder if it would also work using chord inversions? All food for thought and experimentation. A great tutorial, Bill. Thanks!
Just to clarify. The techno-autotune-disco on robotussin that infests the radio waves more frequently than the dumb country-pop, or occasional rhcp or green day song that sneaks in..

Dude got so many cool guitars
Great vid! Love to see the Chapman back out!
man that chord progression you laid down to sound "bad" sounded effing awesome lmao
yeah it reminded me of a movie score
Polychords ahoy! That "Onward" is so flakey that it is great. GAS. Dang. Birthday 9 months away...
ahhh, but you still have 270ish UN-birthdays that you can use to buy something!!
Christmas is only 5 months away ;)
Beautiful guitar (and sounds!)
Thanks!!!

I see a project in the works... The Frippertronic Hymnal
☮
Play chords with add 9, omit thirds.... and yes wide intervals
Thanks
Now do "Simple Gifts".
and about 3 grand in effect...
Challenge: Deicide, skillex, and the worst song you can find in the top 40... The choosing won't be as hard as the task of listening to the top 40..

Looking for some solid barefoot shoes. What are you wearing here?
Those Xero shoes. Big fan here!
@@chordsoforion thanks! I dig your style. I think it’s the second time I’ve asked you about shoes. Lems and Xero.
