  • I am taking you to a trip back in time, this place reflects how was living in China 40 or 50 years ago. This is Wenheyou a place that recreates the vibrant local street culture of the 1980s in China. Over time, it has transformed into a captivating '80s culture-themed park, offering entertainment and restaurants that offer dishes from fried delicacies to crawfish and the famed fermented stinky tofu.

Most people are either completely unaware or neglected the fact that China went through over 110 years of nonstop foreign invasions since 1830s, which led to a destabilized society filled with extreme poverty, diseases, famines, starvation, and increased civil unrests that bred more warlords, bandits, gangs, and uprisings. China was forced into a very bad position with limited to no resources to rebuild the country after 1947 when Japanese Invasion ended. Then came the Korean War where US-led Allied Forces tried to invade China but was defeated by PLA, so US imposed a 22 year long Trade Blockade against China that prevented them from importing anything. Between 1960 ~ 1980s China had to stabilize economy, internal affairs, politics, geopolitics while simultaneously defending their borders against India, Soviet, and Vietnam. It was probably the most difficult period in China's history that was no fault of their own.

Korea war alone was not enough to make China to poverty. 20 years of Vietnam war from 1956 to 1976 with blockage of South China Sea, blockage of trade with outside world and threatening with nuclear bomb if supported Vietcong. Food shortages and machinery shortage caused slow development. Since it was in poverty nuclear bomb and thermal bomb and missile were made out of surprise. Yes could China be copycat when American was so strict to prevent in leaking of know how.

One thing that stands out to me in your videos is that innovation in China pervades every area and level. For example, the variety of styles, themes for the malls are astounding. Here in the US, literally every mall from New Jersey to Arizona all looks the same.

The rustic look is still way better and cleaner than many U.S. cities today. Not to mention.. The lack of bullet holes and zombies (drug addicts and people with physical and mental issues. who are left to Rot on the streets.) Which have always been a problem in U.S. cities [bullet holes and "zombies" not a new, recent problem (as some would like for us to think) in the U.S. places like Trenton NJ and many parts of NYC, Detroit, Chicago, L.A etc etc. Have always had these problems.

To be more accurate, this only reflects how was living in Chinese major cities in 1980s. As you said, Changsha is the capital city of Hunan Province and it is one of tier2 cities in China. At the same time, 70~80% of Chinese population were living in countrysides or rural areas and their living condition were even worse. No one could dare to imagine today's China.

Who told you that the yellow wall was due to smoking, why didn't you say it was due to getting wet in the urine. Use interrogative sentences more often when dealing with uncertain reasons, rather than affirmative sentences, as it may appear that you are ignorant🙂
