And before you ask "Why" it's because your also good at making what's ruinning/ruined... videos, also let me explain it to you like this. The Railway Series(book 1-42): F**k yeah, classic era(season 1-7): great, hit era(season 8-12): not bad but not so good either, Miller era(season 13-16): kill me now, Brenner era(season 17-21): finally it's getting better, BWBA era(season 22-24): What's happening here, All engines go(season 25-26): F**k this S**t I'm out. And as for the rest of you users, please don't shit on me for liking Thomas and friends, we all have our weird interest in things.

    • @ma.2089

This. It’s funny cuz one of the reasons that was stated that their value is going down is cuz of the reliance on originals. But they don’t advertise or make them easy to get to (bad UI). So they cancel good shows and they wonder why ppl r leaving the service in droves.

In the live action adaptation, they _at least_ clarified that the dogs can only talk to each other and other animals, not humans. I imagine they're following the same logic here but didn't bother to explain it at all.

The day before my dog died, I decided to watch this movie with my family while she laid by my side. And... I hated it. The plot was so boring and confusing, I couldn't get into it. Hell, I even feel like the characters were hard to understand at times, like they were speaking quietly. We just spent most of the time ridiculing the character designs. Don't even get me started on the trophy scene.. I got second hand embaressment from it. So yeah.. it felt like an insulting send-off to my dog.
Edit: Thank you everybody for your condolences under this reply. I know Saberspark lost his dog around the same time as mine so please give your best wishes to him as well ❤️ and yeah, still screw this movie. The art for the movie poster (which was shown in the vid) looks closer to his design in the comic than what they used in the movie. I have to guess it must have been from an earlier version of the film before they changed everything.
But using that makes it misleading because that's not the character design you see in the movie. It reminds me of the Dingo Pictures' cover art on their DVDs where it looks better than what is actually shown in the movie.

The way Marmaduke's body moves in most of those shots just makes my skin crawl. It's like they tried to go for stylized but missed and hit uncanny valley instead. I think it's mostly the way his limbs move and bend. It would look okay on a spider, but he's supposed to be a dog.

I agree. Especially in the scene where he jumps through the rings of fire, and then getting his tail caught on fire, and after getting rid of the fire on his tail, he ends up plumped on the ground and as you can see, his tail was moving roughly and not smoothly which to me along with the facial expressions on the characters looked uncannily awful and unfinished really shows how low quality the animation budget really is! :(

They were about about indeterminate masses that were either too large or too small to comprehend, moving along thin lines strung across an infinite space. I stopped having them as I grew up, and don't really think about them anymore, until something triggers the memory. The dog trainer did just that. For the Record: Marmaduke is a long running comic strip that dates back to the 1950's. Starring this big dog and his family, its humor is derived from having a pet dog, the series is essentially about "man's best friend" at it's heart, and to that effect it even has a side feature within the comic series called "Dog Gone Funny" which is dedicated to dog related anecdotes sent in from fans! The series creator Brad died in 2015, so now new strips are made by his son, Paul. I have no idea what they think of the movie(s), but as far as i know, Marmaduke fans don't care for them. (In my opinion, it deserves better than, this.)

This sounds eerily similar to what happened to "Boule & Bill", another slice-of-life comic about a dog and his boy. Your basic suburban family hijinx. You could read the dog's thought bubbles, but mostly he was just a dog doing relatable dog things for dog owners to point at and go "HA! So true!" ...until a few years ago someone decided that what the IP REALLY needed was an animated series with godawful CGI where the dog talks and he fights against a neighbor who's a supervillain with a secret lair for some reason??? I dunno. I couldn't force myself to watch more than 2 episodes.

I feel like the plot of the film should've had the family love Marmaduke despite his rambunctious nature, but the residents of the neighborhood threaten to call animal control unless the family gets Marmadukes behavior under control. This could lead to Marmaduke over hearing the parents talking about hiring a dog trainer, leading to him thinking they're ashamed of him and how he acts. The film could've just followed a generic "love yourself for who you are" plot, but instead it did...whatever the hell it did.

    Three things:
One- There was a Marmaduke cartoon in the 1970s or ‘80s (rerun by Cartoon Network in the ‘90s). It did not feel the need to resort to the nonsense these movies did.
Two- Notice the Marmaduke in the promotional ad didn’t match the one in the movie. The one in the promo actually looks good and the way the character is supposed to look. It’s like the movie makers realized after the fact how bad they’d made the poor dog look, then tried to disguise it in the ad because they knew no one would want to see the movie if they knew how the character really looked.
Three- Why is there this trend of using scatological humor (You know, jokes about flatulence and defecation) in movies about dogs? It’s not impossible to make scatological jokes that are actually funny, but these kinds of movies really don’t do anything other than go, “Hey, the dog is passing gas/pooping!” and expect people to laugh. Some even go into unsettling territory such as having food be contaminated. Not only is this trend not funny, it’s not original. I can’t remember the name right now (Edit- It was called See Spot Run), but in 2001 there was a movie doing the “Ha ha, you should laugh because the dog pooped!” thing, meaning people have been trying this joke for at least twenty years now.

Marmaduke is a bunch of non-sequitur comics, usually one panel. Him being a big dog is 3/4 of the jokes and he most certainly never talked. His family definitely loved him, but he got into a lot of highjinks.
If I was to make a movie based on Marmaduke, I would probably have the overarching story be about his human family. Maybe they are moving, or having trouble with relatives. Marmaduke is a bit like Dennis the Menace - he never means to be in the way or do anything wrong. The skit humor would be able to come out of the situations - maybe being left with a relative while the family is working on moving. Maybe they have a kid who's being bullied at school, and Marmaduke accidently freaks out the bullies. There's a lot of things you can do with it, but you have to be creative enough to actually pull it off.

@@saffi_taffi Yep, that one. Netflix acquired the rights for a Bone adaptation back in 2019, but had to delay things because of the pandemic. Then, back in April, they suddenly announced that they were cancelling the whole thing, with the reason being that they were reducing their animation department due to the recent loss of subscribers. It’s extremely frustrating because I feel like trash cartoons like Marmaduke will only just make more people cancel their subscriptions, whereas something like Bone would’ve garnered a lot of attention (and people were already interested when the original announcement was made, so I think the adaptation would’ve been successful). Oddly specific, I know, but that's the vibe I got out of this: this animation is just atrocious. I've been curious about Chip and Dale. I loved Rescue Rangers as a kid and one of them (I don't remember from the previews) having a procedure to make him CGI could have been funny if done right. It looks like a movie that could be ok or could be AWFUL. I'm glad to hear it's not as awful.
I'm disappointed that Marmaduke is this bad. Again another movie that could have been ok if the script and animation had been good.

I watched Marmaduke (the Netflix adaptation) and realised how jittery the animation and how the characters moved around. And I completely agree that this film is all over the place, like seriously. You have already covered this, but, there is a scene where Marmaduke travels around the world in order to prove him self to the dog trainer. Then he goes back to the trainer and the trainer isn't impressed. That whole thing was wasted and they changed the plot. What a movie.
