Given that jack’o’lanterns were supposed to scare off evil spirits way back when, I can respect a story about pumpkins fighting against monsters to protect humans as a premise. But damn if this movie didn’t do a poor job of it.

The sad thing is, it might've stood a half-decent chance if the art direction/character designs were better. I think it could've worked well in that old-fashioned rubber hose style. For an example, look up 'Mapleshade MAP* The Pumpkin Song' (MAP= Multi Animator Project)
Actually they were meant to guide the spirit of jack a greedy drunkard who cheated death three times by outsmarting the devil and when he was finally ready to die he cursed him to walk forever with only a turnip(this was before pumpkins were used) as his only light

This movie clearly doesn't understand the danger of monsters.
Shrinking a monster to the size of a pumpkin seed doesn't mean they're harmless.
If a vampire the size of a Pumpkin Seed bites you, you still turn into a vampire.
If a werewolf the size of a Pumpkin Seed bites you, you still become a werewolf yourself.
If a Capa is the size of a Pumpkin Seed it can still suck out your soul through your ass, it'll just be able to do so without getting noticed.
Just because a monster is made small doesn't automatically stop it being a threat.
There's no telling how many people have suffered horrible fates because those stupid pumpkins thought shrinking the monsters was enough and didn't bother to think how much more damage they could cause now no one could see them.
I'm getting way too worked up about this.

Hello, I have seen the original 2000 movie and I wished to inform y'all:
★ The witch originally wanted to marry the boy because she fell in love with him
★ Originally there were four kids in the story, the remake removed both of the non-white kids
★ There was a very short music track to represent the main pumpkin and it played EVERYWHERE on the main menu, in the main credits, during the dance scenes, during some action scenes, and the credits
★ Movie claims to have like an hour and a half of content but the movie itself is like 45 minutes and the rest of it is old '30s black-and-white cartoon shorts that were Halloween themed including CASPAR THE FRIENDLY GHOST

5:05 to be fair, Jack O Lanterns ARE traditionally meant to protect your house from evil spirits.
You know, a film about Jack-O-Lanterns fighting against the forces of evil on halloween would actually be a interesting idea. Once a year they are created, and once a year all hell breaks loose.
Maybe even have the dancing pumpkin be conflicted- he doesn't want to fight monsters and witches, he just wants to dance while he's alive for his short time on earth! Maybe his dancing skills come in useful for the battle against the final boss, somehow. I dunno, I'm the kind who mentally rewrites bad movies to see if I could make a halfway decent flick. Every story has potential, you know?
