As far as paying $58.00 for Garbage Pale Kids, don't feel too bad because I paid 60 bucks for that OOP Phantasm 3 Anchor Bay DVD years ago and then a few years later they released that Phantasm blu ray box set which I gladly paid 90 bucks for lol. So, I've paid a little over 150 bucks on Phantasm so far, I also paid somewhere between 20 or 30 bucks for that OOP MGM special edition DVD of Phantasm 1 before the blu set..... so, I've done worse. I still think that Phantasm 3 DVD is a treasure to have since AB is long gone now and it's a piece of home video history.

Going Region Free is the most wise thing a collector can do and I've find some Arrow Video, 88 Films, and Second Sight Region B titles for great prices. If you have the patience to shop the internet then it's worth it!
Sometimes you can find good pickups like that at flea markets and pawn shops. It's also worth checking with your local library. Ask when their next book sale is. Many libraries across the US take book and movie donations. Many people think the libraries incorporate the stuff into their collections, but most don't. What they do is hold used book sales and sell the stuff super cheap. I picked up some out of print things for $2. You don't see as much horror stuff, but still some good gems sometimes. I got a lot of super OOP music DVDs for $1 a piece. I got these old Chicago DVDs for my dad that were selling online for $30+ each used. I paid $3. Cheap stuff to throw in a bag of holiday gifts and he was thrilled. Picked up some horror that probably wasn't all OPP or valuable even if OOP, but stuff was cheap enough even if I watched once and didn't like them I could just give them away and not care.
Manhunter is the one film I've been keeping my eye on. The Scream Factory version sells for way too much all the time. Sigh. I hope a 4K is released sometime.

Last year death wish was released on 4k I bought the shout factory blu ray used for 9$ at Amoeba's music. Recently Amoeba's music had Texas chainsaw massacre 2 scream factory edition with the slip for 14.99 the 4k was released last year.
For movie collectors, having a Region Free player is a must have. You can get them at very reasonable prices now. It just opens up a lot of options for you. I got the Troll1/2 combo as an Umbrella entertainment release which I believe is Australian.
I just bought a region free player. I put it off but so much good stuff is coming out overseas and not everything is coming out on 4k. It's going to be great not being disappointed when I see an interesting title and it says region B.
A perfect example of what you say in this video. I found the Severin OOP blu-ray of The Stunt Man for $10.50 at my local 2nd and Charles today. For anyone near Gainesville, FL and interested in 30's, 40's, and 50's movies, especially westerns, they also had about 50 Kino, Warner Archives, Olive, and Shout Factory, blu-rays for anywhere from $1.95 to $4.50. I paid $2.95 for the Warner Archive The Yearling blu--ray.
The first pressing of troll 1 & 2 from scream only had the best worst doco, later scream released a edition just with the movies, so the one with the doco is the more exspensive one. Great video 🤟🤟🔥🔥

I bought the SF edition of Dolls for $50 recently and 3 weeks later, a new 2K scan is coming from Arrow. I’m still going to keep it since I love the artwork by Nathan Thomas Milliner.
The FOMO gets everyone in our community. My gotcha was Beyond Re-animator Mediabook from Capelight. I thought it was gone and then Arrow releases their version.
Yeah region-free really helps for access to movies. I notice a lot of Australian (Umbrella) and German releases are labeled Region B but turns out they're region-free. I doubt it's always a mistake. Weird. Non-region-free folks would get those if they knew they worked. Also, lots of times OOP movies still have cheap available DVDs and many times I'm good with those (like Twice Dead or Vagrant - DVD is fine for those). As for my confession, I've overpaid for Scream Factory slipcover releases, guilty.
As far as oop titles I got Lady in white, Evilspeaks,The Beast Within,nightmare at noon,the curse/the curse 2,Nomads,and The Eliminators/ Dungeonmaster got them 16 dollars each at my local F.Y.E. good stuff. I also got Dolls with the slipcover for 70 dollars. And got The Deadly spawn for 50 on bluray. If u find it cheap get it.
Some of my favorite slasher movies are/were only on low resolution VHS and very obscure. I've watched them many many times; Blood frenzy. Iced, and Dead girls. Ironically Iced and Blood Frenzy both star Lisa Lorring. You know, from my first and only viewing of Scream 6, I was able to spot all the plotholes and flaws with the writing. I would argue "at least it's plot holes, instead of a totally incoherent plot that the entire film is centered around." ie Scream 5 and Halloween 2018. But the main thing is, despite the plotholes, I can kind of forgive it because at least I found it entertaining. Iced. I LOVE Iced. I really do. I love the characters. I love the soundtrack. and I admire what they were able to do with such a low budget. Dead girls, some bad acting, but the point is SOME bad acting. I love Dead girls and I really admire the film for being as good as it is with such a low budget and everything else. And I was pleasantly shocked to find out Dead girls was finally out on not just VHS but on Bluray/dvd. I thought it was one of those cases where they threw the original negatives away because "why do we need this FILM for? This is going to straight to video." Can't wait to watch it in all it's glory. As you should know at least, I am a big fan of Giallo and a big fan of Sergio Martino. Martino is my favorite giallo directer even if he didn't make that many, and his gialli are incredibly repetative. I truly wish Martino made more gialli and had a better diverse gialli plots and stories. My favorite of his is Torso, but I absolutely love The case of the Scorpion's tail. The DVD was incredibly expensive at one point. Like $80.00 or something crazy like that. Eventually I got a DVD copy of The case of the Scorpion's tail, for very cheap, and it's weird because apparently the seller was in the movie industry. The shipping address was some Hollywood studio. For a while the DVD of The case of the scorpion's tail was super expensive. Then you got TV series. Like I'm a big big Facts of life fan, and I am like "I aint paying $60-$90.00 for a Facts of life DVD." That's why I only own Season 1 and 2 on DVD. All the rest are too expensive. There is apparently this "males won't watch female centered TV shows/movies." Facts of life, Laverne and Shirley, Daria, hell I'll still watch Clarissa explains it all if I can. I'm also a big I love Lucy/Lucille Ball fan. So I don't believe in that at all. Damn, paid $50.00 for the garbage pail kids movie?! I remember seeing them at the store. I remember even owning some of the cards. I did watch the movie when I was a kid and I barely even remember anything about it. It never made an inpression other then boredom apparently. Only seen part 2, one or twice. Maybe I'd like it more if I watched it a 3rd time. Part 3, not as good as the original but I do like part 3. I just wish the chopping off his leg was more graphic. Still really like it. I've watched it at least 4 or 5 times. I guess the main reason why I haven't watched part 2 as much as part 1 and 3 is because 1.Too slow. Takes a while for the psycho killer to show up. 2.Too different then part 1 and 3. 4.Too campy and goofy.
As of a few days ago, I went for a 60$ blu ray sealed of Near Dark. The movie only has a blu-ray and 1 or 2 DVD releases. No sign or articles dating anything about a 4K or new Blu-ray. Granted I’ve never seen it and it isn’t on any streaming services. I don’t understand why the film is being swept under the rug.
For resell value, do you think it helps to get a more rare disc signed up by some of the main actors, or do you think that actually makes it less desirable? I never know if it makes more sense to get a nice slipcover signed, or just go for the 8x10 at some of the cons.

For Scream Factory at this point definitely no because it certainly seems they are going to end up re-releasing nearly all their stuff in 4k. What sucks in my case is I just started collecting in 2020 and one of the first labels I bought up like crazy was Scream, so guess what I'm doing now even though many of the blus I haven't watched yet? That's right I'm replacing them like a chump with the 4ks ugh :(
i waited until Return of the Living Dead 1 got re-released for 4K. That is when I managed to finally have Return of the Living Dead 1 for blu ray is by buying it for 4K like last year. Sometimes I do think its worth the patience and money to wait til an old horror movies comes out for the first time or re-released again in 4K. That way youre not wasting hundred bucks or more on an old "out of print" blu ray from like 10 years ago or whatever
In Spain I bought Freddy vs Jason on BD used for around 7 or 8 dollars and now it is OOP. I got it for me, obviously, that being said most Spanish don´t speak English and don´t like to read subtitles, as such for friends that come over they could watch it. On the other hand I wanted the final Season of Game of Thrones in the big box format because that´s the way I own the rest. Well, in Spain it was extremely expensive yet I could get it from France for 20. And it comes with most languages. Just so you know, Spanish DESPISE the Mexican dubs on movies/series the same way Latin America DESPISE Spanish dubs. That being said, WB series on BD come with both Spanish and Mexican audios. It´s happened to me with ARROW and GAME OF THRONES. Game of Thrones bought in Spain and ARROW from USA.

Much of it is a wait and continually watch it game. I've found some stuff that I thought was practically extinct come on the market. You still pay but deals can come just be ready with cash when they do.

I think I got lucky when I bought the Halloween Deluxe box set. It was pricey but nowhere near the 500-700$ price range some are asking for it. I spent around 150 including shipping on it from Amazon marketplace, but I was waiting for a reasonable price. The oop Sleepaway Camp trilogy with their slipcover art was a little harder to come by. Sleepaway Camp 2 in particular, That was a Bullet to take in asking price. But I own the trilogy now, so I never have to repurchase them again.
I only do Blu ray but invisible maniac I went 4k bc of the blu ray only bc there was no available blu but 99% of the time is rather spend more bc my collecting ocd wants uniform lol I get rid of slips for same reason
Dude....i have gotten hosed out 2 times and both movies i totally got screwed on the price.....first one was the blob 1988, i paid like 65 on the twilight times release and scream factory and umbrella released blu rays with tons more special features and better picture quality. The other title was the old my bloody valentine special edition blu, i think i paid even more....like 80 bucks with shipping and of course scream factory released it maybe a month and a half later lol totally sucks but im the most impatient person in the world and i have to have things like yesterday.

I agree there other ways of purchasing movies that are currently out of print shop around be smart don't just jump on the first one you come across.

The only OOP Shout/Scream title that I have ever paid a high price was the Shout Select To Live and Die in LA, without a slip, 45 bucks

I think I got lucky when I bought the Halloween Deluxe box set. It was pricey but nowhere near the 500-700$ price range some are asking for it. I spent around 150 including shipping on it from Amazon marketplace, but I was waiting for a reasonable price.
The oop Sleepaway Camp trilogy with their slipcover art was a little harder to come by. Sleepaway Camp 2 in particular, That was a Bullet to take in asking price. But I own the trilogy now, so I never have to repurchase them again.

I have garbage pail kids, ghost town and disturbing behavior from shout I got em when they came out lol got lucky
I only do Blu ray but invisible maniac I went 4k bc of the blu ray only bc there was no available blu but 99% of the time is rather spend more bc my collecting ocd wants uniform lol I get rid of slips for same reason

Dude....i have gotten hosed out 2 times and both movies i totally got screwed on the price.....first one was the blob 1988, i paid like 65 on the twilight times release and scream factory and umbrella released blu rays with tons more special features and better picture quality. The other title was the old my bloody valentine special edition blu, i think i paid even more....like 80 bucks with shipping and of course scream factory released it maybe a month and a half later lol totally sucks but im the most impatient person in the world and i have to have things like yesterday.
What region free player would you recommend? I'd love to get one.
