Thanks Brad for these great posts! I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Kate in the mid-1980's and she was very friendly and likable. I hope she's well and happy all these years later. Cheers from Canada!
Kate is one of the very few players to beat Chris. Chris had taken a break and played Chris at Boca Raton in 87. Chris was flat all of 87 , playing poorly at French and at Open losing in QF to McNeil . 1987 was first year she didn’t win a slam event since 1973. She divorced Lloyd in 87. The only good match Evert played in 87 was Wimbledon SF against Navratilova , losing 6-4 in the third.

thanks
Has to be one of the last tournaments Chris won
She won more after this....
If I remember correctly, Chris' official last pro singles title was the Virginia Slims of New Orleans in 1988.
Sweet Mother of Mercy, Not the Great GOMPERT 😮🫢😫
when the guy doing the play by play, does not know the difference between a drop shot and a drop volley, he needs to leave that task to someone else.
Gompers just returns the ball , doesn’t give Evert a target
aka counterpunching
@@1stGeorgiePie aka boring
Am I correct in assuming that you are also a counter puncher?
@@1stGeorgiePie or pushing
Clever. The player making the least mistakes usually wins in tennis. Besides, she plays for herself, not for the audience 😉
I'm pretty sure Kate Gompert beat Evert in 1989.
No-87 last time Evert 83,61-in Switzerland.
