Weakest stories would be ones like The Dark Tower, Dreamcatcher, The Lawnmower Man, and Cell.
@@76marexWe can read your prior comments and know to take what you think with a grain of salt, bud. Go cry about wokeness and snowflakes on the Fox News channel.
What about CARRIE or SALEM'S LOT?
cujo is the one film that needs a remake they ruined the ending of that
Often in horror, the viewer learns the lesson by witnessing the consequences of the characters not learning the lesson.
Apart from films where they are aware of death and evil lurking places yet choose to go anyway ultimately ending in their demise. I call those types of horror 'serves you right horror '
Same goes for Seinfeld. 😂
Yes, horror is about characters not learning. It's the hubris of man always making the same mistakes expecting better results... like marriage.
"Yessss, lets go it again, I know I just destroyed the other one but huh huH!"
@@YodatheHobbitwith comments like that, you don't deserve to ever find a significant other. Destined to be alone for life, & that makes us normal people smile😊
Fred Gwynne aka TV loveable Herman Munster and the judge in My Cousin Vinny (1992).
"What is a 'yute'?" 😂
As a proud Mainah (resident of Maine) I have to say that Fred Gwynne *PERFECTLY* got the Maine accent right. Everyone else that tries it in movies makes it sound too much like a Boston accent.
If he did voiced it as Herman Munster he'd still sound better than a Maine accent
I thought the proper term was "Mainiac?"
@@bl8388 wouldn’t it be spelled Maine-iac?
"The soil of a man's heart is stonier" and "Sometimes dead is better", two amazing quotes.
oh my gawd, for real...
I always took it to mean that the soil of a man's heart is stonier than the dirt of the pet sematery and micmac burial ground. I take it to mean sometimes people are too hard for their own good.
What does it means?
My brother and I have used "Sometimes dead is better," many times over the years.
@@aquibmohd Ive always thought that its harder for men to open up, show emotions, share thoughts. Have to put in more effort to dig them out.
No…it isn’t Hellen Hunt haha. It’s Denise Crosby, also known for playing Tasha Yar in Star Trek the Next Generation.
Did you guys not think that the toddler who played the baby Gage was an amazing child actor he deserved an Oscar! Have you ever seen a child that young acting so well? how did this little toddler understand how to behave in such a scary way
As awful as him being hit by the truck was, for me the saddest part of the film is when Lewis injects him with the syringe and Gage says "no fair", coupled with the utter heartbreak on his face (even though Gage is just a soulless monster now) as he watches his boy "die" for a second time 😭😭
Really sad was the fence company missing out on the opportunity of building a fence around their yard to prevent "Scooter," from getting hit by a truck.
Rachel was set up to fail with Zelda. They were both of an age/state of health that they needed competent adult guardianship. Blaming kids for their parents' neglect because she failed to rise to the standard of an adult with a more developed brain is a weird take Kristen :(
I'm listening to Kristen say that this second and I agree that Rachel was set up to fail. The movie itself is about an inability to handle grief.
Yeah, honestly, I see a lot of these kinds of responses calling out toxic behavior in old films, but the response is often times more callous and self-centered than whatever it is they're complaining about. Within a week or so, dude lost his cat, kid, wife and local best friend while having his father-in-law blame him for everything and attack him at a funeral causing his child's body to fall out of the casket while also dealing with an inundation of supernatural events like a zombie cat and a kid at school with his brains falling out of his skull giving him some crazy message and causing him to lose his fundamental understanding of the universe....
But yeah, can't understand why dude's not thinking straight or why a little girl doesn't have the emotional maturity and cultural appreciation of an adult taking on the caregiving role for another person. It's just mind-boggling...
ehhh its horror, fictional, and supernatural. The ideas interpretated have no defining on her character.
I totally agree with you. Her response was extremely off putting.
@@jvig7353 I had a reasonable answer but nothing as defined and encompassing as yours. Literally THE comment.
What a good neighbor would say: “You two dummays should get ya selves a big tall fence. Can’t believe I gotta tell ya this. What kinda parents are ya?”
What a bad neighbor would say: “How about ya bury that cat in the haunted burial ground? Did it to my dog, I did. Came back insane and rotten from the sour soil. I don’t foresee any problems for ya. Let me know if anyone else in your family needs any help.”
"It's weird his wife calls him Doc."
Amusingly enough, my paternal grandfather's nickname was "Doc", and my grandmother called him that most of the time just like everyone else.
The husband is not stupid. He has gone mad with pain and despair and at least wants his wife back. No matter what the consequences.
Next movie. Clive Barker's - Cabal - Nighbreed.
Yes he is.Being wrong once is understood twice is foolish.Thrice is American😂 Plus that old guy isnt wise in anyway. He just pushes guys into hell thats why he got what he deserved
That's a great movie!
What's captured much better in the novel than the movie is how the forces behind the burial ground are capable of clouding people's judgement. In the movie it comes off as character's acting dumb, which is unfortunate. In the novel though, it plays as this malignent force completely consuming the character's minds and behavior. Their fate is not truly in their control, and it's harrowing to watch them spiral to a near certain doom.
That's why I love this novel. It's one of Stephen King's darkest and is just super nihilistic.
He wasnt an idiot just grief stricken with a choice. He wanted to get what he deserved. His mind had been shatter. Most people would make the wrong choice simply because they had one.
In the novel Louis' hair turns completely white, indicating that he's gone utterly insane. For King, all white haired insanity was akin to looking into IT's deadlights. It's a representation of complete mental shattering.
@@EWall1498That explains Belch's hair turning white in Stephen King's IT (1990).
the little girl has "the shine".
I was thinking the exact same thing
It's been a long time since I read it but don't they mention it in the book??
@@user-nt8lq4rp3z No and I've read it a few times.
It's a fan theory. People love spouting theories as "facts" and it annoys the hell out of me.
Yep
I love this movie, is literally one of my favorites, and I've seen it thousands of times, but it was new to me with you two! it was super funny to see your reactions, so genuine! and believe me you are thinking exactly what I did the first time I saw it! amazing company! thnx!
Watch Christine, it's also written by King and directed by Carpenter.
In the book they explain his actions better, with each of the deaths and coming back from the dead, it drives him more and more crazy, by the end he is fully insane and under control of the burial ground. It’s supposed to all be about not accepting death as a part of life will wreck you mentally. Rachel not being ok with death is a huge part of the book.
This is a movie about grief. The loss of a loved one, and what would u do if u could bring that loved one back. If given the chance, most people, would do anything to have more time. If shown how to, people would probably deal with the consequences than have to live with the grief day by day. So, u have to ask yourself, if u had a child that passed away in a horrible way, would u bring him back, or deal with the loss forever. Also, the reason why Ellie can see what is happening, is because she has the shining. I read that somewhere.
Omg you dry heaving was priceless 😂😂😂 now you guys have to watch the rest of his movies especially cujo
Her reaction takes me out EVERY time ! ! !
Is it just me or was Zelda's appearance the most terrifying thing about this movie? Like I remember watching this as a kid and she scared the shit out of me. lol
Gage was wearing the outfit of a person in a painting when she was telling the story of zelda
43:09 - "The soil of a man's heart is stonier". This phrase speaks about the core character of a man's heart; that all it knows is what it wants, but doesn't consider the consequences, heck, even despite the consequences. And he will constantly try to rationalize his actions, to himself and to others, to justify his insistence on getting what his heart wants. Like his proclamation to Paskow at the end when he said that he waited too long to bury Gage, but Rachel just died, so it'll work out this time. The irony is that him being a doctor, it should be him of all people who is prepared when comes to death, clearly he didn't handle death well, especially losing those closest to him. He couldn't even deal with the idea of letting his daughter grieve over her cat, Church. So, when Judd introduced him to the power of that Indian burial ground, his already "stony heart" became even stonier, having been corrupted by the power to overcome the very thing he was unable to handle: death. There's also a reference in the Bible ot men having hearts of stone, which means their hearts are "dull", that is, being way past feeling and even common sense. Like y'all said, he was so grief stricken that he was past even basic sense, and just continued to make it worse, and worse, and worse.
Well put.
Wow thank you for this clarity 🙂 as a man myself i was pondering it
to be fair if jud said it would bring church back i think he would not have done it. but he did not process grief well. then was scared of the consequences of that putting him at a physiological stress level that impaired his decision making and it snowballed with each new tragedy and bad decision. by the last one he couldn't process that his son died, he killed him a second time, his wife was dead and it was his fault. he had to try anything that could make it better. and if it didn't the pain would end soon when she killed him. what did he have to live for at that point with noone left
@@johnpaullogan1365 - So you're saying part of his decision at the end, with burying his wife, was also as an act of suicide? Something of a dark, twisted penance, knowing full well that she would only come back to try and kill him? Likely having guilt for killing her/their son twice, and like you said, ultimately causing her death and destroying their whole family? Very interesting.
@@Whitebrowpriest he may have been clinging to hope she would come back properly knowing it was unlikely. if so what are the two outcomes. he gets his wife back or it ends. going on was no longer an option in his mind and this way there was a chance in his mind.
I was hooked on the book, One saturday mornin I couldn't sleep, so decided to finish it..... from about 3am onto 8-ish.... was right at the end....... layin in bed just right into it..... then I heard a loud scrambling thumpity thumpity thumpity thump, just heard it, my door opened up didn't see anyone, and boom, Basset hound Charlie jumped on bed with a big slobbery grin on me, I yelled and threw the book across the room...... whew, freaked me out. Charlie got a big blanket smothering wrestling match and a gentle scoldeing for scarin me.
LOL, - 1:40 - No that's NOT Helen Hunt, that's Denise Crosby, a notable TV actress, most famous for her role, Lt. Natasha Yar, on the Sci-Fi TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Once someone even _knows_ about the old cemetery it has a hold on them that they can't shake.
And it's a kind of cost of using the place, that they pass it on to others. Even though they definitely don't want to.
So awesome to see someone react to this movie for the first time
Every parent in the world should watch that scene with the kid and the truck, to make sure they pay attention,
Thanks for the react ^-^
I agree, but I have an example. My brother has 2 daughters. Before they were born, I showed him this movie and he could watch it all the way thru. After he became a father, and the scene with Gage happenend, he told me to stop the movie. He had to go outside and have a cigarette. When asked why, he said that that scene hit's alot harder when u are a father. I could understand what he meant. He didn't want to watch the movie anymore and just wanted to be with his daughters.
Unfortunately, they kinda leave out the fact from the novel that the Wendigo that haunts the forest is influencing Judd, which is why he takes Louis to the burial ground.
After I saw this, I had to scream myself awake when I went to bed that night. Somehow, I was convinced Timmy Baterman was in my room.
Timmy Baterman is a hundred times scarier in the book. In this he's basically just a stumbling zombie. In the book it's more like a possession.
i remember the guy who plays the dad, he was Elvis one time wasn't he? and i remember him in a show called Time Trax.
Yes. The movie was called Elvis And Me.
Fred Gwynne is absolutely fantastic in this.
There is so much story to the other characters, both past and present in the book. The movie is CONSIDERABLY shorter than the book. The book itself is THICCC and many think of it as as being too long (almost 400 pages), but that being said it is NOT Stephen King's longest book. For a singular story that does not bridge across other books, "The Stand" (over 1100 pages) seems to be the longest stand alone King book.
This movie ranked at #32 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo
In the book, a Wendigo, tainted the soil of the burial ground.
Denise Crosby "Rachel" will be attending our Scarefest horror convention in Lexington Ky this October. Hope we get a few more Pet Semetary actors.

Stephen King Sliver Bullet is my favorite 🐺
Mines sometimes they come back 💗
i saw this when i was 16 at the movies....it freaked me out.
the road to hell is paved with good intentions basically sums up this movie.
When this movie came out on video tape back in the day, the small town I grew up in had this little mom-and-pop video store that my friends and I visited pretty much all the time. We became fairly friendly with the owners, and they got this HUGE cardboard standee (about 7’ tall, and about 4’ wide at the base) of parts of the cemetery with a big tree in the middle. In the tree, Church was crouched, and its eyes would light up when you plugged it in. The first night I had it, I put it at the foot of my bed, mainly because it was so big and my room was pretty small, but I plugged it in to see what it looked like, and then I went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night, and all I saw was something big by my bed with glowing eyes, and it absolutely scared the s*&@ out of me, before I remembered that I had fallen asleep and forgot to unplug the standee. My friends and I got a lot of humor out of this, for many years.
Does Ellie have the Shining?
There are theories that she shines like Danny does and that’s why she can see and sense all the stuff that’s going on.
I read the book before seeing the movie, and what scared me the most was the first appearance of Victor Pascow after he died as a ghost. The mental image of Pascoe’s burst head and dead eyes haunted me, and the film did not disappoint either.
Also just wanted to add, god bless V neck sweaters...
I saw this in the theater. That Achilles scene
Stephen King Is The Best 💯 Period, Great Reaction Ladies
If you guys like horror movies, then check out the 1981 horror called The Entity. It's terrifying.
Damn…..”sometimes….dead is bettah…” I thought this movie was bleak…the novel is wayyyy more dark 💀💀💀💀💀…..even Stephen King was hesitant to make this into a movie. Great reaction & classic King flick 👻👻👻👻
Miko is amazing in this.
And Kindergarten Cop
Book was pretty damn scary. Salem’s Lot was as well.
80's horror loves those cheap jump scares. Had to rewind and watch that cat jump out again, it was funny!
13:40 'Plastic bags aren't biodegradable'; well, there's the true horror of this movie!
Fred Gwynne was also the judge in My Cousin Vinny.
what an amazing like 3 year old child actor...WOW
It would be great to see you two do more Stephen King adaptations. Achara already did "The Shining" so maybe its sequel "Doctor Sleep" could be next?
Of all the Downeast accents I've heard come out of Hollywood, Fred Gwynn does the best. It actually sounds natural. And, no. Not everyone in Maine has that accent. It's pretty much regional.
3:41 had to replay it multiple times 🤣
The movie paints the characters as stupid, but there's a lot that the movie left out from the book that didn't translate well. The reason the characters didn't make the best decisions-the MC reburying his family, Judd telling the MC about the sematary, even the actions of supporting characters-was because there was *something* driving them to do it for its own gain. I won't say what to avoid spoilers. As flawed as the movie is, I still find it pretty creepy. The cinematography and music is great, really nails down King's vibe. I still find Pet Sematery the book is some of King's best work
Great reaction! lol. Enjoyed it as much as the movie itself. 😄
If we're doing The Master King's work.... Next should be Needful Things, Thinner, Dreamcatcher, Cat' Eyes n Sleepwalkers.
This is the first movie that genuinely scared me as a kid, specifically because of Zelda. She still gives me the chills. I still like the movie, but it definitely does not hold up quite as well now.
I think reading the book in the years since has also negatively impacted how the movie hits me too. The book is so dark and dives so much deeper into the grief and fear of death. An example is the sequence where Lewis digs Gage up and buries him in the Micmac burial ground is really great in the book because: 1) Stephen King is a great writer and 2) It gets us inside Lewis's head as he slowly rationalizes his actions and slips further down into insanity and grief but in a way that almost gets the reader to rationalize it too. You just cant get that kinda depth in a film.
Also, I suggest listening to the audio book as well. Michael C. Hall narrated it some years ago and he did a phenomenal job capturing the characters and emotions of the story.
Oh man, now I definitely have to hear the book in Michael C. Hall's voice.
@@jacobmercer3705 It's definitely worth a listen!

"The soil of a man's heart is stonier, Louis. A man grows what he can, and he tends it.” He is basically believing that a man's heart is harder to penetrate with love and emotion but also how tough his heart is.

The metaphor with "The soil of a man's heart is stoney" is that it's harder to see, harder to get through and dig up"
Yes, basically Judd was saying men are better at keeping dirty secrets, which like the opposite, is strangely also sexist.
The problem is that the movie misses much of the book explaining the mom's reaction. She was nine and her parents left her alone with her dying, clinically insane sister. NINE! She has PTSD from the event and has never had counseling to help her deal with the trauma. It's her parents who are the monsters. I think the mother just has a lot of issues.
Sorry, eight. That's even worse.
Til this day... No horror movie has made me cry. Every. Damn. Time. 🥺🥺🥰
It really is a heart breaking story.not scary.the book is just as good too
25:00 "love death, hate living" Jesus Christ, never noticed that line before...
But let's be honest, isn't that what HUMANS do best ? People are warned not to do things , but they find a way to justify still doing it
The book fills in all the "more" story that y'all are looking for.
Watched this in the theater in 1989, I was 11 years old and it scared the crap out of me😂.
They did give you a background story on hom of what happened in the past when got his sons dog back from the dead what more did you want a deal with the devil or demon
The book is really, really good. I'd never been interested in the movie because I heard it was bad. This certainly doesn't seem great
This version is definitely scarier.
Agreed but the remake did have a couple of redeeming moments

Love this movie, they did such a great job on the book adaption imo, convinced my mom to take me to see this in the theater when it came out (I was 15), I don't think she knew what we were in for haha great reaction! love Jud he was so perfectly cast
also I know some of the killer kid stuff was a little silly but how else could they really portray it. the 'never get out of bed again' zelda scene was the worst when i was a kid lol
The man who plays Judd played a character called Herman Munster from an old series called The Munsters.
One fact it´s that the old man (Jud) was played by Fred Gwynne, who also played Herman Munster in the Munsters (Gwynne size was 6´6´´) . There is also a cameo of Stephen King, who wrote the book (the priest).
Oh my god this movie scared me soooo bad as a kid!! Trauma mama

"Nothing worth while grows in stoney ground just like his heart."
Sometimes grief overrides everything, logic, morals, can all of us actually say we wouldn't try bringing a loved one back if we thought it would be ok? Sorry but if you say definitely no then I don't believe you
Listening to Jud, all I can think about now is South Park.
We didn’t get the end of your sentence - “apparently in a hospital you’re not allowed to say --“. We need to know!
Fred Gwynne was born to play the part of Jud.
Yeah Hes perfect, i Love him!
Pet semetery 2 was good as well they also made a remake
Highly recommend the audiobook. There's one narrated by Michael C Hall that's soo good.
I love this movie. The child that plays Gage, appears in Kindergarten Cop and the last Nightmare on Elm Street movie that Robert Englund did, New Nightmare. He is the boy that talks about private parts of girls and boys. Judd Crandall actor is Herman Munster, Fred Gwynne. He plays the Judge in My Cousin Vinny as well..
Basically the moment you bury something in that place is takes hold over your mind and makes sure that you loose someone so that you are tempted to bury them there too. It's pure evil and it knows your deepest desires. I am reading the book now but from what I read so far this is pretty close to the book and for the record the remake was just awful and so far away from the book it just pissed me off. Stephen wrote this when he lived in a house by the road and he started to think what would he do if anything happened to his son at the time. Gabr's death is always painful and it was hrad to read about in the book as well. Judd isn't evil he was just desperte to be free of the pull the place had over him and to do that you have to convince someone else to bury something there and so the evil moves to them and you are free of it finally. I love this movie because of how creepy it was and because of how well done it was..it gets you yelling at the screen and telling the main character what an idiot he is and that is a sign of a good horror movie. Any way there are three movies in this series but I only saw the first one and there is also a new one that came out about Judd when he was younger and his expiriences with the Cemeray it's self but again I don't know if it's good because I never saw it. Stephen King wrote a lot of good books IT being one of my favorite, this one and the Mist book is good too. Grate reaction girls and glad you did this one over the remake.
Is their cat carrier a toaster oven? 6:35
The world is full of people who stay in their patterns because they for various reasons can't learn from their mistakes, or that their toxic patterns are comforting in some way.
Another one is " Children Of The Corn ". And no , not the remake. Also " Needful Things "
*I don't get the man heart ♥ is stonier part, it doesn't make sense to the story,*
- Men love is unconditional - meaning a men can love someone that has nothing.
- Women love is Conditional - meaning you have to be something or someone for a woman to love you.
- The man heart was jello for his son and family, he would do anything to bring them back to life, it's just that sometimes dead is better.
I also recommend Pet Semetary 2- Clancy Brown gives a chilling performance in that film!
12:53 Native American. Indians are from India
I knew this would be fun to watch as soon as the two of you came unglued the first time Curch came down the tree and shocked you! Kristen's gag reflex at the end was hysterical as well! Thanks for the share. Always a great time.
Nice reaction ladies, this is one of those Stephen King novel films that's perfect for Halloween. This movie makes me not want to live next to a cemetery or at least find out if the home is built on one. The little kid was in Kindergarten Cop and Spawn (1997). I do suggest the latter film based upon the Dark Hose comic character. Michael Jai White played him good. Fred Gwynn aka the old man neighbor is from The Boy Who Could Fly (1986) as Mr. Gibb.
The two of you had a pretty good discussion about this one. I think the story is supposed to generate discussion about how we deal with grief. Over the years I've seen people greive, I've dealt with loss more than a few times myself. There's a wide range of how people respond to death. Even the actions of the characters in this movie seem stupid or terrible, sometimes grief brings out dark impulses in the best of people. Louis was a good, rational man. Yet grief drove him to madness. I think there are a lot of parents who would do anything to have their deceased child back and would ignore all the warnings just for that chance.
The sequel is also worth a watch, although it is a lot cheesier.
Great choice as always! Hope you ladies will react to Kickboxer soon!
“The soil of a man’s heart is stonier”. Just means rougher I guess. Harder. Not saying it’s true. Lol. Just saying that’s what I take that quote as. I dunno.
When I was 4 I saw this and to this day was the only film that scared me.
