  • Spiders are everywhere! Which should be obvious from the title of what kind of horror movie Achara & Steph get scared of reacting too. Can't imagine being in the protagonist's place (Jeff Daniels - Dumb & Dumber & The Newsroom) who already has a huge fear of spiders, only to confront them when they come webbing into his new home.
Arachnophobia (1990) also stars: John Goodman (The Big Lebowski & The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Sands (A Room with a View & Warlock), Harley Jane Kozak (The Favor & When Harry Met Sally...) & Brain McNamara (Army Wives)

_Arachnophobia_ is one of those movies you don't really think about much, but when someone brings it up you instantly remember how good it was. It was pushed like a summer blockbuster and it delivered something that was unique in horror at a time when the genre was heavily slasher based. And at the time it was prety unique for a company owned by Disney.

I was so surprised, and disappointed, to learn that this movie was just a modest success worldwide, because here in Sweden it was an instant classic and I saw no reason to assume that it wouldn't be regarded as such everywhere else. There were a lot of movies from this era that seemingly met with this fate: "big in Sweden, but that's it". "The last boyscout", "Darkman" ... Sure, it's a credit to our good taste, but I feel like we really shouldn't have to tell other people how good these movies are, they really should have been able to figure that out for themselves.

Holy mackerel! He’s the one?? I live here in Ca near the mountains and I both read the articles and heard my family mention his disappearance and then finding his remains. • @Vulcanerd
      @Vulcanerd ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@VengefulPurity Yeah, sad to say. He was, by all accounts an accomplished hiker, but I think he was out at a time when avalanches were reported in the vicinity and his subsequent search was hampered by storms.
He was in a lot of things, some of them kinda risqué/spicy like A Room with. View, Boxing Helena, but also in bigger more mainstream stuff like Leaving Las Vegas, Ocean’s 13, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo along with keeping himself busy with tv popping up here and there or for short stretches. Hope his family and friends are ok and they’ve got a bit of closure.

There's a really great movie with John Goodman in it titled, "Death Sentence" (2007), also starring Kevin Bacon, Kelly Preston, and Aisha Taylor.
2007 was a really good year for movies. With films such as: "Live Free or Die Hard", "28 Weeks Later", "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", "I Am Legend", "Trick 'r Treat", "There Will Be Blood", "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead", "Reign Over Me", "No Country For Old Men", "The Bourne Ultimatum", "Rush Hour 3", "Transformers", "Death Proof", "3:10 to Yuma", "Dead Silence", "The Invasion", "The Mist", "30 Days of Night", "Rec", "The Hills Have Eyes 2", "Halloween" (dir. by Rob Zombie), "1408", "Wind Chill", "Planet Terror", "Superbad", "Hannibal Rising", "Cleaner", "Vacancy".
These were all excellent movies, and very entertaining to watch! But if you are fans of John Goodman, and Kevin Bacon, I HIGHLY recommend you both react to "Death Sentence". This movie is intense from start to finish.

If you want a genuinely funny spider movie watch Eight Legged Freaks, it’s hilarious, and *somewhat* scientifically accurate.
Also keep this in mind, the worlds most venomous spider, the Sydney Funnel Web Spider lives only in Australia (thank god) and the venom takes longer to kill, but it does kill not by caused heart attacks or paralysis but by necrosis (meaning rotting your flesh).

There are different types of poisons here's a small list I can think of: Hemo, Neuro, Pheta, Necrosis, Water-Poisoning(it causes swelling of lymph nodes that don't go down blocking oxygen, its not fast but it is very painful) 😖. There are two poisons produced by several plants, animals and insects that "Induces powerful psychedelic hallucinations, if left untreated can leave you catatonic until your body starves while you are fully aware you just can't move or talk." The other is for hives, like a powerful opid, if left untreated you can scratch yourself death.. pretty grotesque stuff 🫰😧

The spiders are deliberately cartoonish and are essentially live-action Looney Toons characters. But I think it's only a matter of time before it re-spreads from things like "Stranger things" (yes, I know that's a TV show, not cinema), where they cleverly let it take place in the 80s to have an excuse to do it like the 80s.

I watched this movie with my grandmother when I was 11, and neither of us was ever the same again. My mom has forever held it over my head. "Why did you two watch that ridiculous movie?!?!" 🤣
Legit, I have never once turned a lamp on or off without a stab of fear that a spider will drop onto my hand. And every time I hear someone say "It's bad luck to kill a spider," I'm like, "ohhhhhh, so you've never watched Arachnophobia." 🤣
Wow, I can't believe how much of it I vividly remembered after all this time!

23:13 - I read that until recently the most common black widow bites were people going to the outhouse for a pee. (runs screaming to the hills)
Awww... Julian Sands talking about climbing and never returning.
    What a shame.

Excellent reaction! I'm not a huge fan of spiders so Arachnophobia always ranks high on my "scary movies" list.
The actor you were wondering about at around 4:00 is Julian Sands. He did a ton of stuff and was always great, but if you want to see him in some more horror then check out Warlock (1989). It's a fun horror movie, but not exactly high art so don't go in expecting too much from it. It had a few in-name-only sequels as well, though Sands was only the first sequel Warlock: The Armageddon.

Haha... I do the same thing with spiders. If its not some huge hairy thing I say ok daddy long legs you want to stay in that top corner and catch things go for it, just don't come on my bed. lol I loved the jump scares, and there were many, and I loved how they played on our fears of putting spiders in every small place that we all fear (shoes, shower, hat, lamp shade, etc...). Well done movie.

“Grandma… what kind of movie is this?” I asked, eyes widened.
“Oh, it’s a spider movie hunny.” She replied.
      ….
This movie still gets me to this day.

I saw this movie on accident when I was little. My parents were visiting some family friends and it was on TV and I was with them. I never had a serious fear of spiders but the few scenes I remember watching of the spider bites from hidden spiders gave me arachnophobia from that point on. So I powered through this reaction so see if I could handle it. I was ready to stop at sooooo many times.

    10/10
    Spiders!
Arachnophobia deserves a much higher rating and a lot more attention and fame than it got. Jeff Daniels is fantastic in it and John Goodman steals the show as an exterminator who is in way over his head. Julian Sands is also great.
It's about super deadly killer spiders who kill a researcher in South America then hitch a ride in his casket back to the United States where they begin a killing spree.
This movie is very funny and also has a lot of great scares in it. If spiders make you feel icky and or shiver then this is the movie for you. The use of real non-CGI spiders and good practical effects make the spiders much more menacing.

  • @cjmacq-vg8um

its one of those "nature takes revenge" movies. two other cool "spider" themed movies are "tarantual" (1955), in which clint eastwood makes an early career appearence at the end, and "Kingdom of the Spiders" (1977) starring william shatner.
usually the female spider is larger and more aggressive than the male. when mating the male is often dwarfed by the size of his mate and is lucky to escape with his life. and if the female rejects the male and the male won't leave her alone, she'll just kill him out right. also, baby spiders eat their moms upon "birth." the mom will sacrifice herself for her babies first meal. now THAT'S family values!

Julian Sands I remember seeing him in the late 80s early 90s Warlock films and later in various tv series from the mid 2000s like Stargate SG1, 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, and appearing as Jor El in Smallville for a couple of episode with Terence Stamp be the voice of Jor El throughout the series.

I love this movie, but it was a little sad for me considering we lost Julian Sands, who I was a fan of.In terms of horror,he did Warlock, and Warlock 2,so there are two possible things for you to watch if you’d like. While watching this I thought of other horror movies that are set in small towns and I came up with two from the eighties:Something Wicked this Way Comes, based on Ray Bradbury’s work(this is a movie with very subtle horror,so much so that some people laugh at the idea that it’s even considered horror,so you judge for yourself if you’d like to see it),and Lady in White, also kind of subtle.Enjoy them if you choose to watch them.

I had to laugh when the mother spider was running while on fire. The Hybrid offspring are actually a harmless species from New Zealand, and possibly a smaller member of the Huntsman species. This is the first movie that isn't a straight horror movie about spiders, Tarantulas used to be the stereotypical spider in the 60s -80s. "Kingdom of the Spiders" starring William Shatner, is a more standard horror about spiders - check it out if you dare !
