I remember my first time on the Island and rounding turn 12 for the first time and looking down that straight. That was the most exhilarating feeling I'd ever had on two wheels. I too started braking at the 200m marker and was almost stopped by the time I got to Doohan corner. Toward the end of the day, I wasn't breaking at all and realised just how much speed can be carried through that corner. I understand your trepidation coming up on Lukey Heights but that was my favour corner. I found I could carry so much speed through there that I made most of my passes there. The most fun I've ever had on two wheels. Thanks for sharing
Same feelings mate, it was an incredible experience and I’m already looking so forward to the next time I’m there which is hopefully this year when it warms up a bit 👌
What a great video, mate. I enjoyed it. I've been racing bikes for some time. I remember the first time I cut a lap at Phillip Island and like you It was to just check it out. I ended up QF'ing on pole and broke 2 lap records (Period 6/125cc) over the weekend. One little bit of advice though. When you're on a race track forget the rear brake. I don't touch it. In fact I set the foot brake very low so my boot doesn't touch it in the riding position. In the wet, try to do all your braking in a straight line. Cheers.
Looks like you made amazing progress throughout the day. Only thing I’d say is forget the rear brake on track unless you are a really top rider (they use it for tightening up turns, not for supplementing the front brake’s stopping power).
I'd like to ask you about your exhaust system, did you buy as a complete kit, or did you source individual parts to make the dual exhaust. I have an 03 gsxr 600, and I just love the looks of a dual exhaust.
Hey mate, they are the Akrapovic slip-on mufflers and were an aftermarket option to the standard dual pipes on the 09-11 GSX-R 1000. I'm not sure if it's possible to have such a system on the 600.
I'll keep that in mind mate! I can't wait to get my R7 on track going to braodford first to do some classes and then hopefully this year get to go on phillip island.@@AusMoto
Had my first ever track day. Man I was nervous during the first session. But after a while I got the hang of it. Problem is I have trouble with knowing where to brake and what what gear I should be on
Well done mate great video alot more scarier than sand, mud and hills on the wr
Thanks heaps JB, certainly takes some courage to push the bike hard!
Aw man that looked like so much fun. This is making me want another sport bike..lol
It was so awesome and there's no reason why you can't take the 1290 on track haha!
@@AusMoto that is very true and like you did, I would ride up there. Heck I would bring my side bags with my gear just to make people laugh 😄.
Well done mate. Your last lap was miles ahead of your first few. Great job
Thanks heaps mate!

Looks like fun mate. How much does a trackday at PI set you back?
It sure is, about $300 mate
Is there a website that you browse periodically to know when is a trackday coming up?
There sure is. It's phillipislandridedays, they've got them every month.@@prathaps848
I rode to my first trackday at PI, nearly froze my knackers off on the way down and the ride home was torture😂
Hahaha 😂
I was lucky it wasn’t too cold but my outer layer was completely soaked as it was pissing down haha!

Thanks heaps mate and I realised that I should stay off the rear as the day went on haha!

great video mate! Is rev matching a thing on track becuase I didn't notice it much when your coming towards your turns
Thanks mate, it sure is, I did it a little bit but being an absolute beginner on track, wasn’t focusing too much on it

nice one, its such a great track.
Thanks heaps and It's bloody phenomenal!
I really want to do this soon. Would be great to get it on video. What camera did you use and where have you mounted it on to ?
I used GoPro 12 mounted on the tank and then one on the very rear of the bike
@@AusMoto thanks mate. Excited
@@PERERA675cc It's good fun!
I'm going back end of this year for California Superbike School, so keen!

👏🏻great show 👏🏻
Thanks!
Had my heart racing through the video, you captured that so well! Very keen to try a PI session soon - did you hire leathers or buy?
It's a tonne of fun!
I bought my own as I plan to do it a couple of times a year.
Still haven't done PI only broadford
Can’t comment on Broadford because I haven’t been but man, PI was bloody awesome!
@@AusMoto looks bloody awesome. Can't wait to give PI a go
❤ this. You already know someone who can help! I'm always happy to chat and ride. You coming this weekend?
Thank Mark, we’ll need to book in a track day next year, already super keen for the next one!
Nah, can’t make it out this weekend 😭
Phillip island man no greater place to be. Lol felt out of place in the pits, like pulling up to do the think with the wr and a esky full of coke cans
It was incredible man!
And yeah, felt so out of place initially but everyone was so welcoming and helpful! 🤙
