It’s an out of body experience when Yuja plays. It’s from another place in time. She takes the music and her listeners to somewhere that is beyond this world of life. Bravo!!
On a near-taboo topic: people criticize Yuja for being too sexy in her dress. A dress can't be sexy; it's the person, the intelligence, the movement, the facial expressions, the passion in the music that's sexy. Get into it.
On an interview she said that she has no boyfriend. But she does and she see`s her boyfriend every time she performs because her piano and Yuja becomes one. Her passion, her feelings and her emotions become one. Just see near the end of the movement of Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.3 in D minor,Op.30 when she feels the deep emotions of the composer as the music as written as she she plays from her heart !

Both were rapped in how Jazz fit all they do with music. It is a real treat to be where it is possible to see and listen to Juja play Sergei Rachmanoff.s music he has written.
We all linger with Yuja at the edge of what is humanly possible. From the instrument makers to the composers and on to the performers, we are awe struck at such miracles. I, for one, intend to just lean back and enjoy it all and not ask questions. -Curt Kuhns
She shows her “Difference” and her more advanced Understanding of her Music including the difference in the Orchestra- subtle differences she can hear it!

YUJA Wang is a passionate pianist before anything else, an artist in music when she feels like it which is usually always. She is daring in her presentation, you have to be courageous and confident for such matter knowing how conservative the audience in classic music can be. She has a gift few possess, to be natural and unpretentious while being on top of her profession if we can ever call being a solo pianist a profession, rather a vocation. She loves what she does, it is visible when she performs, yet, it is more than love, it is a need to be with a piano, without it life would be boring for her just like a painter without his/her brushes and colours would. Such is life, full of surprises, be in music, visual art, sculpture, poetry, engineering, writings. The only field where there is no surprises is in politics where mediocrity prevails and is constant, well enjoy life if you can.
Sorry about the thumb down, it was quite an accident. Yuja is great and lovely and your posting is spot on,especially the comment on the trashy subject of politics.
@@lewiswereb8994 Can I comment about politics - I would like it to be more boring, even "mediocre"! - I've had a bit too much excitement just recently!!! (although "Interesting" as in the famous Chinese curse... 🤔🤔🤔)
Well said. Truth spoken. I’m all for Yuja’s daring even when I don’t agree with her tempos or dynamics. It’s a bit of Who Cares? I’d far rather go for a wild ride with Yuja than with an overly predictable rendition of an overfamiliar war house. Most importantly, she is terribly bright and insightful. She won’t rest on her brilliant technique alone. She pushes her envelope relentlessly. This I admire most. Her restlessness. Her returning to the score looking for lost or hidden patterns and relationships. Yuja is a force to be admired.
New York CLASSICAL REVIEW by Eric Simpson Sun May 15.2016 Concerts are, to some extent, an expectations game in one way or another: we go to a major venue to hear a leading artist expecting a great performance, and often that bar is met or even exceeded. Or we witness a very fine performance that stands out all the more for being by someone we’ve scarcely heard of. The least pleasant of all worlds has to be the experience of disappointment from the performers from whom we expect the most. Over the past several years, it has been a thrill to watch the continued development of Yuja Wang, who has shed her reputation as a flashy technician and demonstrated herself to be a sensitive musician of real substance. It was surprising, then, to hear her on Saturday at Carnegie Hall, in her most mature recital program to date, sound so far out of her element. The first two of Brahms’s Op. 10 Ballades provided just the first example of what would become a recurring problem throughout Wang’s recital: chronic over-pedaling. While some judicious blurring can help give color to a piece, Wang’s heavy foot seemed here to be more of a tic, fussing with textures without finding much in the way of meaningful expression. Neither Ballade showed much specificity of intention, giving instead a broadly generic account of the music without a strong feel for its style or significance. There was a more virtuosic feel that one often hears in her rendering of Schumann’s Kreisleriana, yet Wang still relied too heavily on her pedaling, her playing often feeling rote. For all the fire with which she ended the third movement, there was no focus in it, so that it took on the shape of general bluster. There were moments throughout of superb playing-the last movement was marked by striking contrasts between passion and playful coyness, but even these felt like momentary effects rather than elements of a complete interpretation. Most perplexing of all was her take on Beethoven’s magisterial “Hammerklavier” Sonata. In the early going it was quite impressive, a truly majestic majestic opening followed by extraordinary freedom in her interpretation of the rest of the first movement. Wang’s fingerwork at times felt a little drowsy, a problem that carried over into her Scherzo, and kept it from ever approaching its requisite crispness. As so often before, Wang’s account of the pensive Adagio sostenuto showed moments of superb playing-her delicate touch floated shining tones out of the piano, and individual phrases were sublimely crafted. What she lacked, though was the ruminative Beethovenian spirit of the music-the romantic preciousness with which she shaped the movement would have been more suited to a Chopin nocturne. The finale showed plenty of determination in the “Allegro risoluto,” but more excessive pedaling and sluggish fingerwork muddied what ought to have been a crystal-clear fugue. A different pianist, it seemed, emerged for the curtain calls. Wang tossed off all of her usual encores, and they were brilliant: the Gretchen am Spinnrade transcription had the perfect combination of Schubertian sensitivity and Lisztian bombast. Arcadi Volodos’s cheeky riff on Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca elicited laughter at every witty turn and the Horowitz “Carmen” Variations were accomplished with supreme flair. Where was this self-assured, limpid playing on the rest of the program?
She is genius upon genius so that she takes on the spirit of the supernatural & divine. A gift of God to Planet Earth. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Yuja.
The orchestra is amazing too when playing along side her, the difference is they read the music in front of them where Yuja DOESNT she memorises ALL the music which makes her unforgettable!! Thankyou Yuja...❤🎹🎵🥀
You are so right. That's an incredible achievement! Most people, whether musicians or non-musicians, don't even know what that means. When I was in a concert of Yuja Wang in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf a few years ago, she played Beethoven's "Hammerklavier Sonata", Schumann's "Kreisleriana" cycle and some Brahms pieces from the head..!!! I talked about it with 2 women next to me. They said it wasn't anything special. Any good musician could do that. I thought I did not hear right. But that Ms. Wang can play almost all works by heart, whether by Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Chopin, Schubert, Shostakovich, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Bach, Bartók, etc., hardly anyone seems to notice, let alone because to appreciate. She is an absolutely exceptional pianist. In my opinion the best in the world.
@@catanlorca there's a video of her talking about herself you should watch, where she says she memorises all the pieces in her head it comes naturally. She also mentioned when she had a break in New York she got bored! from not playing. Playing piano is her life like breathing, she doesn't do anything else but play she has no other interests.
On appearance alone, you might expect her to exploit the art by "selling" the music through her looks, choice of fashion, and sexual appeal. But then, when you hear her actually PLAY --- hear her very gifted musical mind not merely comprehend, but negotiate colorful, dynamic contrasts and musicality within complex rhythmical dynamics and pianistic virtuosity --- you're forced to rethink the paradigms of HOW music is developed in the first place, and to perhaps realize that music-making can be, or is, as much a sexual experience as it is otherwise sensory. As a lifetime musician myself, I have today perhaps learned something new and invaluable from Ms. Wang.

I don't like these comments which use the expression "greatest" and #1". It is enough to say that she is very good or even that she is great without having to imply that other pianists are not "as good". To say that she is the greatest of all time implies that she is better than pianists of long ago whom you might not even have heard. Let me suggest that music is about beauty and not about an implicit competition. Indeed Beethoven also played the piano. Bach was also a great player. How we do we know that Yuja Wang is "greater than Beethoven" or greater than Bach? Please STOP making music into a competition. Enjoy it!

No artificial intelligence will ever be able to do what she does. The musical notes pour out of her fingers seemingly with so little muscle work. You can's sense any tension yet she creates in the music purely by thought. It's pure magic and quite spooky. She 'lives' the music and she is like an extension of the piano or is it the piano is an extension of her. I'm in shock!

Look at "Piano Duel - Yuja Wang vs. Khatia Buniatishvili" and see they are equally matched as 10's, each one!

Patrice - beautifully expressed! She brings out the artist, the poet in all of us, even those with lesser gifts. 🎵😊😊
New York CLASSICAL REVIEW by Eric Simpson Sun May 15.2016
Concerts are, to some extent, an expectations game in one way or
another: we go to a major venue to hear a leading artist expecting a
great performance, and often that bar is met or even exceeded. Or we
witness a very fine performance that stands out all the more for being
by someone we’ve scarcely heard of.
The least pleasant of all worlds has to be the experience of
disappointment from the performers from whom we expect the most. Over
the past several years, it has been a thrill to watch the continued
development of Yuja Wang, who has shed her reputation as a flashy
technician and demonstrated herself to be a sensitive musician of real
substance. It was surprising, then, to hear her on Saturday at Carnegie
Hall, in her most mature recital program to date, sound so far out of
her element.
The first two of Brahms’s Op. 10 Ballades provided just the
first example of what would become a recurring problem throughout Wang’s
recital: chronic over-pedaling. While some judicious blurring can help
give color to a piece, Wang’s heavy foot seemed here to be more of a
tic, fussing with textures without finding much in the way of meaningful
expression. Neither Ballade showed much specificity of
intention, giving instead a broadly generic account of the music without
a strong feel for its style or significance.
There was a more virtuosic feel that one often hears in her rendering of
Schumann’s Kreisleriana,
yet Wang still relied too heavily on her pedaling, her playing often
feeling rote. For all the fire with which she ended the third movement,
there was no focus in it, so that it took on the shape of general
bluster. There were moments throughout of superb playing-the last
movement was marked by striking contrasts between passion and playful
coyness, but even these felt like momentary effects rather than elements
of a complete interpretation.
Most perplexing of all was her take on Beethoven’s magisterial
“Hammerklavier” Sonata. In the early going it was quite impressive, a
truly majestic majestic opening followed by extraordinary freedom in her
interpretation of the rest of the first movement. Wang’s fingerwork at
times felt a little drowsy, a problem that carried over into her
Scherzo, and kept it from ever approaching its requisite crispness.
As so often before, Wang’s account of the pensive Adagio sostenuto
showed moments of superb playing-her delicate touch floated shining
tones out of the piano, and individual phrases were sublimely crafted.
What she lacked, though was the ruminative Beethovenian spirit of the
music-the romantic preciousness with which she shaped the movement would
have been more suited to a Chopin nocturne. The finale showed plenty of
determination in the “Allegro risoluto,” but more excessive pedaling
and sluggish fingerwork muddied what ought to have been a crystal-clear
fugue.
A different pianist, it seemed, emerged for the curtain calls. Wang
tossed off all of her usual encores, and they were brilliant: the
Gretchen am Spinnrade transcription
had the perfect combination of Schubertian sensitivity and Lisztian
bombast. Arcadi Volodos’s cheeky riff on Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca
elicited laughter at every witty turn and the Horowitz “Carmen”
Variations were accomplished with supreme flair. Where was this
self-assured, limpid playing on the rest of the program?
Fantastic!!! Such a joy and blessing to live at the same time, as Yuja Wang!

What she wears... how she plays . Reflect her very strong personality...d best yuja...
