Yuja Wang's technique is impeccable and her execution unbelievable. She is a true pianist. She has matured so much as an artist and grown. She is constantly expanding her repertoire to the appreciation of her many fans. This is outstanding.

I am delighted at having discovered this lady, pure genius to me, having discovered her one day on U tube. My delight is being of fairly good health & a good age too I may well have another 5 - 7 years of bliss listening to her and graciously thank Yuja for the joy she has already given me and indeed the outstanding composers who have written their dynamic music for us all to enjoy not forgetting so much orchestral talent who present it to all classical
music lovers. I hope I’ll also survive a few more BBC Proms. J Brian Morgan

It's hard to believe Liszt himself ever played it any better (same goes for her staggering performance of his B minor sonata). Absolutely superhuman genius. There is nothing she can't play, and play it with more originality and passion than anyone has ever heard before. She moves effortlessly from the tenderest pathos to stunning velocity and virtuosity that take the roof right off the concert hall. "Phenomenon" doesn't begin to do her justice. She's an incandescent miracle, and we're all very fortunate to have her among us. Bravissima, Yuja!

+Piano Man42 Most great concert viruosi have their standard repertoire memorized. But it's HOW Yuja memorizes it, and plays it and makes it entirely her own. That is beyond incredible, almost supernatural (as people once thought of Paganini's virtuosity).

I saw some comments about Yuja doing her own music. For sure she is one of the best, if not THE best interpreter I ever heard over the last decades, but doing music is another monster. I really think this musical gift comes at an early age, some playing, some composing, both together are very rare, and becoming a very successful composer when you go older after being a pianist like she is now, never heard about. Anyway, if she continues playing like this as an angel sent by God, I'll continue to admire her forever, but if she is going to write her own pieces, better to start now, Mozart, Liszt, Beethoven and many others were already exceptional many years younger than she does. Follow your heart Yuja !!!

Yuga Wang's playing of Grethchen Am Spinrade is right on the exact emotional target as if she is actually singing. I had vocal lessons years ago from a vocal teacher In Claremont California who lent me a recording of a beautiful female voice this wonderful song and Yuga makes the piano sing it perfectly as I heard this female voice singing this beautiful song. She does this keeping the melody in perfect alignment with its best quality regardless of the rhythms and turmoil of the accompanying harmony. Breathtakingly beautiful! Up until the present, Gary Graffman had always been my favorite pianist. His coloring of my favorite pieces played to my preferences. How delight to discover Yuja Wang studied under Graffman! She carries on the great tradition of pianists who play with passion and yet precision, joining greats such as Van Cliburn, Horowitz, Ashkenazy, and Rubenstein. She is the 21st Century's star of the piano and a welcome addition to the library of the trained ear.

From when are these performances? Yuja's rendition of "Gretchen" always rips my heart out, but that "Erlkonig" is a very close second. Can't you just hear her singing those poems? And how she delineates the character voices in "Erlkonig"....truly fine playing, and that's an understatement.

List who loved Schubert as a poet arranged more than 50 Leider, but it would also have the meaning of introducing Schubert's splendor in Austria and Paris. Yuja's playing Schubert's melody is beautiful, and Erlkonig that changed the original vivace to presto agitato, Yuja's transcendetnt virtuosity heightened the tension of the song.

This is definitely my favourite Schubert/Liszt collaboration and I always thought Kissin did it best - until I saw this video.
Wow. Yuja Wang effortlessly brings out the intense motion, emotion and drama that Schubert and Liszt brought to this piece. The push on the foot treadle, the turn of the spinning wheel, the moment Gretchen starts talking about Faust and all of sudden the moment when she stops her work to think about a kiss, then the resignation and longing for something she can't have.

Yo no soy ningún experto en música clásica, pero no se necesita serlo para darse cuenta que Yuja Wang es perfecta, todo lo que ella toca suena sublime, este video en particular es adictivo. Yo procuro escuchar algo de ella todos los días.

Sam and Sueli GOOD?? She's the best pianist of the last century, I like her playing even more than Rachmaninovs or Cziffra. If Yuja is a great pianist, Martha is the goddess of piano

Wow! It's simply amazing what you find on TH-cam.
I have heard quite a few of LIszt's Schubert arrangements and often I dislike them because it's too much about Liszt (and the pianist) and not enough about Schubert. These performances are simply astonishing. For one thing she has the songs themselves nailed. Schubert was proabably the greatest story teller through melody that ever lived and here Ms Wang lives and breathes the worlds Schubert and Liszt have created. It is obvious that she knows the songs, the narrative arcs and what the words mean. How marvelous that such things can be captured on video and shared. Thank you so much for sharing.

Superb - sensitivity, lyricism, power and passion are all here. Particularly admirable I think is Yuja's lucidity with 'Auf dem wasser' which can so easily sound dense and cluttered. I sense that she knows the original songs very well.

I wish Yuja Wang could read this post. When you have such natural virtuosic dexterity, you can focus on feelings and emotions. While her delicate hands float over the keys like butterflies, it’s easier for an artist like her to express with ease all the emotions of the composition with her whole body, mind and spirit. What a waste to see someone like her focus on playing compositions that are not hers! My deepest wish is that she would take time off from performing, go somewhere alone in a secluded place to spend time in communion with nature, reach deep inside of her inner soul to create her own music, her own sweet voice. We know about her talent and her unparallel beauty and sensuality, but we don’t know her soul. How happy I would be the day she reveals her soul to us. Write for us Yuja.

Excellent comment! True genius lies in writing music for the smaller men to play. Imagine if all those greats had not existed? She would be nothing (all concert pianists would be nothing) because there would be no music! Thank goodness someone else wrote this thought. Well done, Harry.
