Thanks for a great video. The parking sensors died on my X350 and someone suggested your video and I ended up buying and having one fitted (by McMillan Jaguar).
Hi jon, i have just brought an almost identical version of your blu, i love all your videos youve done for it, and want to duplicate many of the mods you have done on my own version. Shame you got rid of her, perhapes ill pickup the torch where you left off hehe, keep up the good work, loving the videos.
Just an UPDATE to my previous post. I've had this for a while now and super pleased with it. The PT Cruiser doesn't have the best rear view, less so the convertible!! Rear cam positioned in the same place you put yours on the XJ. Not the best at night as its more or less in line with others headlights!!! Can only read license plates when close behind. Other than that, the rear view is on 24/7. Best accessory I've bought so far.
Very clear picture - but had to remove it as it nearly caused me to collide with a car passing me. Mirror looked like it was passing on the inside, but it was correctly passing me on the offside!! Can't find a way to flip the image so that it appears as a mirror. Any ideas??
Weird one. There must be a setting that is flipped somewhere? No chance you have both the camera and the mirror inverted is there Alan? When i get five minutes i will look through the setting options
@@ToTheGarage Don't think so, monitor clipped over mirror, camera fitted rear of tailgate. Picture very sharp (not inverted) just not mirror image. Absolutely terrifying thinking you've got cars on the wrong side of you....
bought one of these at Xmas too, just got around to fixing it a couple of days ago and also very happy with it so far, Not happy with the Amazon value added though where you only get the free gift if you give a 5 star review and it is accepted. 'so all 5 star reviews on their site.'
Fair comment. They are in effect paying for a 5 star review. however if I didn't like the product I would not have bothered with the card so in my case 5 stars is what I would have haven them anyway. quite sharp practice though
Fantastic video John. I've just ordered one from Amazon and was a little apprehensive about cutting into the reversing light wire, BUT, as you did a dirty install, showing that I can just the tap the mirror to switch views without splicing in to my CANBUS system (yup. I drive Clarkson's most favourite car, a P T Cruiser convertible) I'm happy as Larry (who every he is??) In fact John, the only downside I could see from your Video was that you couldn't change the date from the American way to the English way. UPDATE: Mine arrived today 18/8/22 all on and YES you can adjust the date to UK ddmmyyyy. Result.
Bonsoir John thanks a lot with thaïs vidéo since One year ago . I buy thaïs dashcam with Amazon . Sorry for my langage . Brest regards Erick de Montpellier
Hi John. Great video. Just bought my first car: a 2003 xj6! Having a bit of difficulty finding the cable routing through to the boot. I have the Alpine subwoofers on the back shelf and also an electronic sun screen for the rear window. For love nor money, I cannot find the wire when I feed it through as you did. Please help if you can 🤔 Keep up the great work. Love your vids
The brightness is an option you can enable/disable the automatic brightness adjustment in "settings". So if you change the brightness manually the automatic adjustment will take over if it's not disabled first. I'm assuming it's an Android os correct? If so, uncheck the adaptive brightness checkbox in settings and you'll be able to set the brightness manually.
@@jackleonard2088 it could if the sensors are catching it, which I doubt it will, at least responsively. These captors cost money and usually only bother with the sun light. Lights from car might be to faint for these to trigger anything. Unless it's very bright and for a while maybe, but I doubt it. If you have one of these expensive phone (android) you can do the same, check the function that will give you an idea. But keep in mind that your phone is a 1000 bucks computer when the electronic here is less than a 100 so... Hope it helped
Thanks for this John, I was considering one of these for my Defender 110 SW which is difficult to reverse. I was wondering if you have found that the rear camera becomes obscured by road dirt in poor weather when next to the numberplate. This will help me to decide whether to mount above the rear door instead. Thanks George
.Hi geoweeks. yes it does get grubby in damp weather. I have just got into the habit of giving it a wipe at every fill up. I would mount your above the door👍
Hi, thank you for your videos it been so helpful to me since I've never owned a jaguar and its my first, I have a 2005 Jaguar XK8, its comes with 3rd brake light mounted in the rear glass, unfortunately the previous owner removed and I can see only the wires, I bought all the parts to install a new one, but I couldn't figure how to mount it on the glass, I searched everywhere for a manual no luck, I would appreciate if you can help, although mine is coupe not convertible.
Hi John, I too have a Trophy and fitted a rear view camera (above the back window) and a clip over the rear view mirror display. As you know, the rear view in the Trophy is bad enough, but with the bathroom doors closed, is zero. It worked fine, until the extra weight pulled the original mirror off the windscreen (its only glued on). I would not recommend your display for your Trophy. Regards.
Hi John, she is turning over but not starting new battery, odb shows p1111, p0506 and p1229. Issue started I was driving along no problem then she died!
Also always come out of side roads as if it's your right even when it's not. Surprisingly there are not that many dented cars in Italy as everyone seems to have a hyper awareness that someone else is going to cut you up if you give way just a tiny bit. Having a UK number plate and an old Volvo means they'll steer clear of you a bit more than that new hire car from the airport you dare not dink because of the 3,000 euros excess. Catania in Sicily is dreadful.. one way streets, kerbstones a foot high and little old ladies who step out in front of you, while the motorbikes weave in and out oblivious of everyone else.
Brilliant John. I too installed something very similar being the AutoVox V5. It looks near on identical. I installed the rear camera into the XK8 chrome finisher, boot lid release button. Ran the cables through the OEM boot lid flexi trunking into the boot area. Installed a hard wire kit to power up the main unit from the redundant car phone fuse in the passenger side fuse box. Should have the car back on the road ready for this years 25th celebration car meets. Hope to see you around some time. I think that product is really excellent quality for under a hundred pounds. Something I will look at in the future.. Thanks for sharing the product.
Just got mine today following your valued feedback. Its good value for money, appreciate the tip.

I've found with dashcams not to have too much sky in the picture, point it down a little bit. You will get a better picture in the sunshine.

@@alexanderthegreat6480 thanks for taking time to answer. What your saying makes perfect sense. Again thank you.
Does your XJ not have the electrochromic auto dimming mirrors? I used my mirror power feed to wire to my dash cam. 2008 Super V8 LWB in New Zealand.
That would have been a really good idea😔. Wish I had thought of it. Doh! Never mind, next time. Cheers and thanks for watching👍👍👍

Have you thought about using the power outlet in the glove box?
Why didn't you wire a camera into the sat nav unit?
Lack of talent😁
In the video you cannot really read any words or the number plate of the van ahead so I wonder about the cam quality.
just wondering whether the purpose of purchase - to improve reversing skills - has manifested with use and aid of gizmo?
Nope! Im still rubbish. But a t least I can see where im going now

The dash cam records the front view in loops regardless of whether you are live viewing the front or rear views

I am unsubscribing way too many adverts I have not got the patience for this crap
dude, adverts are youtube and/or you using freebie YT, not the video author.
YT are to blame for ads, it's the price we pay for free content. I skip them after 5 seconds & get on with watching some very informative videos.

I don’t choose them or place them.
