come back, cryobyte! i used to love watching your deep dive videos, and even when i knew 99% of the tips in these videos,i still watched them! i understand you may be working on videos,do what you do takes time. my favorite steam deck creator by a long shot, and you havent made a video in 5 months.... i hope you plan to come back
I will never stop telling people you can use your phone as a keyboard and mouse, transfer files back and forth with your deck and a bunch of other things with a program called kde connect. it is super simple and you should add it to the next tips video
I've used it and it's great software, but it's heavily limited on iPhone, which I use. I could use it with my PC too, but it also only allows you to copy/paste files while in KDE and not GameScope. Having the mouse and keyboard is great, though, so I might include that 🙂 Thank you for watching!
This app look awesome, it’s covered by a few videos already but the presence in another tips/trick video would be welcome, I’m pretty sure a lot of people don’t know this (like me)
Good tips, but I recommend against the Gulikit Hall Effect sticks. They have a square outer deadzone that completely changes the feel of the sticks compared to stock in certain games. Instead, I highly recommend the ElecGear Hall Effect sticks. They have a round outer deadzone and feel exactly like stock.
Literally the first thing I've done when I purchased my deck was to inatall Cryo utilities and since I loved my machine, so a HUGE thank you! I would be happy to see more advanced videos, settings, tutorials how to handle Linux architecture in the deck similar to your previous content. Also a lot of people want those anticheats so mby dual boot videos with your magic improvements which leads to the next suggestion of how to use the deck as a daily PC including software and peripheral hardware. Keep up the good work brother I know you can do great things!
Hi Kyle, I know others have mentioned... But hair triggers would be amazing for shooters and for racers where you need to feather the gas. Unfortunately a quarter to a third of the already short trigger-throw are deadzones. A guy created a "Steam Deck Trigger Calibration Overwriting Tool" for this issue, but didn't make a proper way to save the config, so the recalibration resets after the Deck wakes from sleep.
I plan to make more Deck Dives, but BG3 has been taking all my limited time for a few months now. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to doing them regularly after I finish BG3 😅
We all will be waiting for your recommended setting for BG3... It's all over the place and quite confusing to choose the most accurate/optimal setting on SD OLED... Cheers!
Hello, I would like to ask you a question, with all the optimization the steam deck as come to is CryoUtilities still usefull ? Especially for a steam deck oled user ? And you will say you will do a video for optimization on steam deck oled but you don't, why ? (No problem if you don't do it I don't want to be agressive at all here)
Great video! What i would really like to see in future is a deeper dive into overclocking/undervolting, especially overclocking without raising TDP (also BIOS downgrade because Smokeless doesnt work anymore)
That video has been in the works for months, but every time I near the end the whole process changes 😅 hopefully soon I can actually release it. Thanks for watching!
Love most of ur stuff but this felt too overtly brand focused and slightly niche, i feel this series has run its course outside of mentioning other helpful resources like proton db
I knew a lot more in this video then the previous one but it was still a good one! Keep up the great work to answer your question I don't mind either beginner or advanced tips. (to be honest I might get more out of beginner ones since a lot of the really advanced stuff is a bit too advanced for me haha)
Hello, I know this isn’t related to the video, but I just recently got a steam deck oled, and I just found out about Cryoutility 2.0, do you think i should install it for the steam deck oled?
I personally use it to the same effect as on my LCD, but if you'd prefer to wait for solid numbers I should have a video coming it in the not too distant future about how it holds up 😉 Thanks for watching!
For those Hall effect sticks, I’ve heard that the Gulikits have square gates, so they have corners unlike the default sticks… Is this the case? If so, there are the ElecGear sticks that apparently work better. What do you think?
I have had both and yeas the Gulikit s do have square gates. The Elecgear ones have a better gates they are still a little square but not as much as the Gulikit ones and can be reduced when you calibrate them. Also keep in mind both of them have stick jitter but the Elecgear again have it a little less than the Gulikit ones.
I actually haven't heard about the ElecGear sticks, but the Gulikits do have square gates. That said, I don't really mind them even during precision gameplay so I suppose that's objective 🙂 Thanks for watching, I'll have to check out the ElecGear sticks!
Hey amazing content my man, appreciate the hard work you put into not only these videos, these tip videos are really cool, but also the utility plug-ins, got back into my Deck recently and looking to optimize it for maximum battery life/efficiency, locked 30fps etc no matter the game, again great work🎉🎉.
A good video would be on docking and choosing video settings for desktop and game mode and all the places it can be set to use on 4K tvs, setting 1080p to tv, setting the max game resolution as then being able to adjust in game and pair with FSR (if not in the game). A lot of older games can do 1080p or be upscaled nicely when setting these parameters.
Great tips, as always! I like the mix of various entry levels for these tips, as even we veterans don’t know everything, and some tips spur ideas across other machines in similar situations. Thanks for the time, trouble, and education! Also, great to see the merch store up and running-will be by soon!
Great Video! My suggestion is if you keep doing deep dives on new releases or even previous troublesome releases so we can optimise our decks best to play those games. Your Cryobyte utility was a godsend to the community and I’ve been using it since day one. If that utility has hit its limit then the next would be to see how we can optimise games using other methods such as FSR3 Plugins, modding games etc. Keep up the great work anyway 😊👌
I was thinking of getting cryoutilities for my LCD 64gb deck, but people on reddit are saying it's not needed anymore. The main feature I was interested in was moving the cache files to the sd card where my games are. Does Cryoutilities still do that?
I have been crushing on the steam deck since last month. I was in the train going home, when a dude sitting beside me. Removed it from his bag and started playing forbidden west. I was astonished because i never seen or hear of a steam deck nor its completion. Since then i have been researching about it online and watching 1000 of videos about it I fell in love with the ting. I created a steam account and although i am not that financially stable to even get myself a console to begin with. I was happy when the steam customer service said i could use the wallet to buy myself one. Since then i have been adding anything i get to my steam wallet so that when it is enough to buy a steam deack. I will. Unfortunately 😢 i am at 85 euro now. But i wont loose hope on this
Cryo 2 questions, 1st one, do we still need cryo utilities? since the updates from the main channel addressed alot of stuff that cryo utilities do. 2nd one, if im on batocera booting of a micro sd card does using cryo utilities and changing the UMA buffer size get utilized there since it's another boot option.
An alternative to remote play together is using the steam link app. Just remember that the controller that launches the game is always player 1. So you can launch a game on deck and connect player 2 through steam link on a iPhone or android. It’s easier than you think. It’s especially useful if you have an android gaming device like a GCloud or Odin. I use my GCloud as player 2 all the time. Especially with emudeck games like sega or snes. But it’s perfect for games like nfl blitz or nba jam. Not many people think about this but all you need is an internet connection and a spare device with steam link.
Thx for another amazing video Cryo, its great to see u uploading more regularly again! I cant believe i didnt think of lowering the deadzones on the control sticks earlier, now everything feels wayy more responsive! Really looking forward to your overclocking video, i only wish Valve would add support for increasing TDP in the BIOS X3
Thank you Kyle, my deck is running really well and I didn't have any problem since I used the CryoUtils (wonderful tool and the video guide is really easy to follow). The only problem with that is I need to change back the VRAM every odd firmware update :P But what I'm not sure is if I need to rerun the utilities at every firmware update to set correctly the swappiness etc, as I'm not a linux user I don't check those things often ;)
Heya! I use the cross hotbars with both the WXHB and LT+RT trigger directionality, and I rebind the back buttons to tab targeting as you mention 🙂 In particular, I use the upper buttons for enemies/neutrals and the lower ones for allies. I rebind the left trackpad to a custom menu for some quick jumping into menus, and the right trackpad as a mouse. Thank you for watching, let me know if you'd like a video on my entire setup and bindings!
It would be cool to see a video of ways to make use games such as FFXIV and others work well with the back buttons. I feel they're very underutilized.@@cryobyte33
Ive got that jsaux dock with my own installed 2tb ssd, perfect for using it to record videos and stuff as well when paired together with an capture card, kinda cool (albeit usb limited) sollution.
You should do a video comparison or maybe a tech run down on the new ASUS Rog Ally, and how does steam deck compete against it Or maybe you could respond here to me with your opinion
960x600 + FSR for many 3d games. NIS for some cartoony / 2d games. PIXEL 2d games that need upscaling. Powertools' power save and conservative profiles work quite well in a pinch 50hz on my lcd model has always given me great response. 30hz on chill games. 24hz on point and click or games that just require thinking over acting. I avoid the right analogs and facebuttons when playing FPS or camera aim shooting games since the trackpad and back buttons provide everything you need in most tricky situations. Develop your own default and get used to mapping / fine tuning games to feel good . Be inventive with the controller and make menus and custom macros (you can set a button to make your character turn 180 and swap w and s keys while holding then turning back when releasing) The Deck is awesome and perfect for the techy types
On the Gilly kit hall effect joysticks how do you tell which one you have whether it's type a or type B? And please please please tell me that you're working on updating the cryobites utility to support newer bios's. Or would you suggest i downgrade to 116?
Xwayland doesn't appear to be in the available default repos for the deck. I see in your video that the source says Local Bundle. You may wanna cover how you added the repo you're getting it from.
Ah interesting, I had used it before but thought I'd purged it, and I tested this on a separate Deck and it worked even without using it prior... I wonder if Flathub removed it. Thank you for letting me know, I'll look into it!
Could you do a tip on how to get reshade working perhaps? i know there is a plugin, but i couldn't get it to work and it didnt seem to be good, it goes over the steam UI apparently. I would just like normal reshade to work in some games but i don't know if its possible.
I have a few suggestions for new comers. In the steam deck launch options type “-dx12 -high - preload” replace dx12 with these following options if this doesn’t work well -dxvk, -dx11, -vulkan . Some games might not boot with the preload option so you might have to remove it. This goes well with enabling fsr from the deck settings and using the scaler option above. For older games you can replace the dlss DLL file with the dlss 3.0 DLL and use dlss tweaks registration file to trick the games into thinking you are running a newer gpu to unlock DLAA. The launch option I listed in parentheses got me locked 60 fps on hogwarts legacy and apex legends. Just make sure to enable the fps cap through the steam deck and uncap fps in game to reduce frame pacing issues. The only games I came across that required more tinkering such as the last of us only worked well with fsr 3 mods.
limit frame rate with mangohud. it is preinstalled on the deck and needs to be enabled with gamescope commands. i.e. MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=30" mangohud gamescope --mangoapp %command% If you do not want the overlay, which is likely, you add no_display to the mangohud config like so: MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=30,no_display" mangohud Of course the fps limit is whatever you set, 30, 45, 60 whatever.
I want to swap my 64gb drive for a 512gb one (which I already bought), but I've been hesitant because I don't want to have to reconfigure everything I've already set up. Does anyone know if there is some relatively simple way to backup the old drive and restore the backup on the new one after I swap it in? Can't wait to see the BG3 video!
you might consider getting an M.2 SSD enlcosure so that you can connect the new drive via USB, then looking up a guide on cloning your existing drive to the new drive before replacing it.
scratchyoshi has the right idea, getting an m.2 enclosure and plugging it into another computer, then using like something like clonezilla to take a backup and restore it to the new drive. That said, I do think it's much easier to just start from scratch since most stuff carries over with Steam Cloud anyway 🙂 Thanks for watching!
Would you recommend to tune up the cooling off the oled deck , the same way like the lcd ? I replaced thermalpaste with the tpm9750 pad , and also switched the back shell with the jsaux v2 vented version,l and i absolutely love it and recommend it, its so much cooler -> longer silent.
Hi sir, thank you for your work. Being currently in a position of limited power supply, I have assembled a setup that can run on ecoflow. I would like to hear your expertise on the Helldivers 2 running as smoothly as possible on steam deck. If you have any advice, I’d more than grateful. Many thanks and stay safe!
Hi, i can't tell it on github, but can here. After 3.6.19 patch SD it's now using zram. And in konsole it shows 100 priority under swapfile(-2). It's not a promblem, but it's now using more ram in summ with swap. It is possible to disable swap or zram?(because zram doesn't shows when swap = 1gb). P.s. And sorry, if my question is incorrect, i don't good enough in linux.
Thank you for these great tip videos. I love my steam deck and want to use it also as a PC. I’m not good with code but I wanted to be able to print with it. I tried installing cups and nothing happened. Do you have a video or would you be able to let me know simplified way of doing that? Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.
Hi I have a question, will you make a video about Dragon’s Dogma 2? Just playing 15 frames is disgusting, as I realized the main problem is the CPU I was able to accelerate my steam deck lcd to 4400Mhz, although steam deck oled is only 4300Mhz. It made things a little better, but it’s still hard to play. It’s a shame that INTEL’s xeSS doesn’t work as I think it works much better than the FSR. I'm sorry for my English, my English level is a2)
I definitely got to give Syncthing even for games that are on Steam. My problem right now is that I'm playing Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag and I can't play a save between my PC and my Deck. This would be awesome to be able to play the same save on both.
please help me i used to have LCD steam deck before selling it i store some of my games on external HDD and 512 micro sd now after buying oled steam deck i want to transfere my games back to intrenal SSD but most of the games have these errors :- failed to transfere - file is locked failed to transfere - game is busy failed to transfere - file is already exsisted soultions i tried :- clear steam app cache on desktop mode run install files intigrity update the games they didnt work and i dont wanna format my device it took me time to set it up with decky loader and such ... i would be thankfull for any fix ?
Great tips as usual! Thanks. Can anyone recommend a good HDMI cable for docking? Ive been using a Nintendo switch cable and after watching the last video i guess I need to upgrade
I personally swapped to amzn.to/3vkLpbf and have had great results, it supports pretty much any resolution that the Deck can put out, and then some. Thank you for watching!
As soon as I get far enough in the game to give an accurate prediction of whole-game performance. Sorry it's taking so long, I'm a big fan of the series and don't want spoilers so I need to play to act 3 on my own and my time is very limited right now 😞
Will this make Fallout new vegas run poorly? I can't seem to get it up past 20fps after 10 minutes of play time. Starts out around 55 and then drops hard and stays there. Even indoors.
Hey man! Just wanted to let you know i added your intro to steam deck repo on animation changer if you sre interested in using it for you steamd deck's boot animation! Love your videos so i thought "why not let the most influential steam deck content creator use his own boot animation??"
Can u help me with my problem? Thanyou❤ i want to install decky loader and decky is asking for sudo password. But I haven’t set-up any password for my brandnew steamdeck oled. And i don’t know what pwd to enter. I went to sudo setting to set up passwd and it says . Incorrect. “Aunthentication failure” and I’m losing my mind. I don’t know this pwrd. Am i been hacked? Or my oled has been used before? . Please help me to fixed it. Thankyou❤
I've been trying to replicate it to make a video, but I've never been able to 😅 hopefully I'll be able to soon since I'd love to test fixes and make a video on it. Thanks for watching!
Can anyone help When entering my SUDO PASSWORD in Decky Loader it's telling me "deck is not in the sudoers file" Been having touble with this even after I reset my sudo password. Please help thanks
I've been getting around this with MultiMonitorTool, as described in this issue thread: github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine/discussions/849#discussioncomment-8659599 Basically, it forces the computer to set the resolution of your primary monitor to the client's resolution on connection, and then revert it on disconnect. It can be a bit buggy, but it's gotten around aspect ratio issues for me for a while now. Thanks for watching, I hope this helps!

I would just like normal reshade to work in some games but i don't know if its possible.
I'll look into it and hopefully make a video about it, thank you for the request!
The only games I came across that required more tinkering such as the last of us only worked well with fsr 3 mods.
limit frame rate with mangohud. it is preinstalled on the deck and needs to be enabled with gamescope commands. i.e. MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=30" mangohud gamescope --mangoapp %command%
If you do not want the overlay, which is likely, you add no_display to the mangohud config like so:
MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=30,no_display" mangohud
Of course the fps limit is whatever you set, 30, 45, 60 whatever.
Dumb question. Would a Rog Ally z1 Extreme running bazziteos, would your app cryoutilites work on it?
Best regards my friend!
Wheree have you gone kyle?
That said, I do think it's much easier to just start from scratch since most stuff carries over with Steam Cloud anyway 🙂
Thanks for watching!
thanks for the replies, appreciate it!
I was surprised that I didn’t know or haven’t used a few tips. Definitely got a bit better QOL now. Thanks.
Holding down the Steam button will also allow you to use the trackpad as a mouse without changing the config.
Thank you, Steam Deck Jesus
😂
Are you still planning on doing that review on that monoblock cooler? I been watching for it.
love this dude
What's your opinion with using mangohud to cap framerate using launch options
It results in the best balance of response time and frame pacing, I plan to cover that in a future installment 🙂
Thanks for watching!
I see, you rocking the jsaux vent backplate. I like it too. The alignment is a bit off, but nothing serious.
Great stuff as always! 🙌
I have Bluetooth trouble and all I use is an hdmi power cable combo. Introduces lag in controller. Is there a deck that would help?
Hi I have a question, will you make a video about Dragon’s Dogma 2? Just playing 15 frames is disgusting, as I realized the main problem is the CPU I was able to accelerate my steam deck lcd to 4400Mhz, although steam deck oled is only 4300Mhz. It made things a little better, but it’s still hard to play. It’s a shame that INTEL’s xeSS doesn’t work as I think it works much better than the FSR. I'm sorry for my English, my English level is a2)
I enjoy all your videos. Including the ones that go over my head. ;)
As always, love those bloopers. XD
Which internal storage brand/model are you (still) using?
I definitely got to give Syncthing even for games that are on Steam. My problem right now is that I'm playing Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag and I can't play a save between my PC and my Deck. This would be awesome to be able to play the same save on both.
please help me i used to have LCD steam deck before selling it i store some of my games on external HDD and 512 micro sd
now after buying oled steam deck i want to transfere my games back to intrenal SSD but most of the games have these errors :-
failed to transfere - file is locked
failed to transfere - game is busy
failed to transfere - file is already exsisted
soultions i tried :-
clear steam app cache on desktop mode
run install files intigrity
update the games
they didnt work and i dont wanna format my device it took me time to set it up with decky loader and such ...
i would be thankfull for any fix ?
Loved the tips, looking forward for more Deck Dive vids!
Bro your hair !!!! I’m growing mine out dat hair look gewwwd!
Loved this videos with tips for the deck. Thanks a lot cryo for this amazing work!
Hey man awesome video as always! I ve got a question: do your deck dive videos work for the Oled model? And the Vram swap to 4 gb?
Thanks for the upload pal. I really didn't know about moonlight......only got a steam deck but can try it from android 😅
Thank you for watching, I'm glad to have shown you moonlight! It's awesome and I use it almost every day 🙂
Great tips as usual!
Thank you for watching!
do you know when the BG3 video will come out?
As soon as I get far enough in the game to give an accurate prediction of whole-game performance. Sorry it's taking so long, I'm a big fan of the series and don't want spoilers so I need to play to act 3 on my own and my time is very limited right now 😞
Nice video series! For your question, I only need the advanced tips, but you never know ;)
Excited for your Baldurs Gate 3 vid! Is there a way we can access what you found on TOTK via Yuzu?
I am looking forward to see what expert level tips look like, although I could see it be more like 5 tips and be a bit more of a deep dive for those.
Will this make Fallout new vegas run poorly? I can't seem to get it up past 20fps after 10 minutes of play time. Starts out around 55 and then drops hard and stays there. Even indoors.
I never had any issues with it, often 60-90fps.
Ooooooo nice merch Cryo ❤
Does anybody else get the issue we’re occasionally the vram setting gets turned back to 1? And how to stop it.
Hey man! Just wanted to let you know i added your intro to steam deck repo on animation changer if you sre interested in using it for you steamd deck's boot animation! Love your videos so i thought "why not let the most influential steam deck content creator use his own boot animation??"
Just got my oled deck today. Thanks for making these videos.
I loved the video and started using a couple.
Thankyou❤
Can you do a Deck Dive on Apex Legends? You are by far the best steam deck channel on TH-cam by FAR!! Thank you!
Cool vidéo thank you ! Great to see a Deck dive on BG3 coming (now I just need to get used to controller mod instead of mouse).
Wait, did I just hear RuneScape music? hehe I love it.
Yo...
I had to do something with my sudo password when installing this... What did it change it too? I can't remember, I know I'm an idiot
Cant wait for you decky loader video
Love the Merch! I really like those Mugs, Does anyone know if they ship worldwide?
Can you please make a Lutris guide?
I use anydesk to perform maintenance tasks in desktop mode
Please make a video about the "black screen of death" problem!!!
I've been trying to replicate it to make a video, but I've never been able to 😅 hopefully I'll be able to soon since I'd love to test fixes and make a video on it.
Thanks for watching!
Hurray!!! Can't wait for the BG3 performance settings
Thank you again for watching!
Can anyone help
When entering my SUDO PASSWORD in Decky Loader it's telling me "deck is not in the sudoers file"
Been having touble with this even after I reset my sudo password. Please help thanks
It sounds like you reset the password but haven't created a new one just yet, so I'd make sure you have one set and try it again.
Thanks for watching!
@@cryobyte33 I did that in is konsel and still nothing.
Sunshine is great but having an ultrawide monitor ruins the fun. It just won't scale on the deck's display. :D
I've been getting around this with MultiMonitorTool, as described in this issue thread: github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine/discussions/849#discussioncomment-8659599
Basically, it forces the computer to set the resolution of your primary monitor to the client's resolution on connection, and then revert it on disconnect. It can be a bit buggy, but it's gotten around aspect ratio issues for me for a while now.
Thanks for watching, I hope this helps!
Yoooo, it's cryo nice 👏!
Based CryoByte on that FFXIV grind
Great video! Will use a couple of your suggestions!
More advanced ! Let’s do multiple controllers through emulators for couch console play or something !
