people saying that this is all an elaborate ruse by Matsson have no understanding of the show... that's just not how it works. Cons like that are introduced & revealed within single episodes, they're not stretched out over an entire season. Not to mention Matsson gains absolutely nothing by lying about inflated numbers. It's been made clear that he & Ebba have an f'd up relationship, so no surprise she spills the beans. Also, the first time he told Shiv about the blood bricks he was drunk & high on cocaine... he just slipped up; not trying to deceive her.
Agree with everything EXCEPT that he slipped up. Mattson's like everyone on this show, rich, damaged, emotionally immature, smart but not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. I think Mattson told Shiv about the blood because he genuinely wanted someone he could confide in. He also picked up, early on in Norway, that Shiv was being shut out by her brothers, so he confided in her to get him more on his side. It's a twisted form of endearment, rather like Roman sending dick pics to Gerri, or for that matter Mattson sending blood to Ebba.
I bet the people saying this is a ruse are the same type of people that think all billionaires are master strategists and cannot do dumb things therefore a show with dumb billionaires looks "unrealistic" to them.
None of it really mattered in the end. All those eccentricities of matsson didn’t mean shit. I thought these bogus numbers shit would do something to the deal but they didn’t. They aren’t even really mentioned later or even affect the money.
The actor may speak perfect English but he was born Swedish. Mattson's accent and weird speech patterns are almost certainly based on people in Alexander Skarsgård's own life
None of them talk in complete sentences. Which is why it doesn't feel like scripted dialogue and feels more real. This is how cornered, angry, sad and under stress ppl speak.
The writer of THE SOCIAL NETWORK?? I think his background is what influences his writing … so he may not have the same finesse when it comes to writing upper class characters …….You can see that anytime the twins in social network talk … quick , dumped down and short
The greatest tragedy is that if Kendall shined a proper spotlight in this it could have killed the deal. If he just presented this idea to the board, he could have won over a vote to win.
Yet another thread that went nowhere. Ebba's whole character exists to introduce blood bricks and India, but neither of those ended up being consequential. they contribute next to nothing to plot or character development. It's all great execution by the actors but what the hell is up with the pointless scenes. This whole India thread is more pointless than some of the deleted scenes from other series. feels like the writers are saying "gotcha fuck you for caring"
I think it was to convey one of the reasons, Matteson was so interested in acquiring Way Star, by becoming so big that the India thing would become much less relevant. This is me spitballing, I really don't know what the point was.
Not really, there is a point to all of this. You see, Mattson is basically a fraud and can't technically afford Waystar and ATN. His hope is to buy it to drown out the noise of his fraud and eventually sell the business for parts to recuperate his investment while legitimizing his wealth. Gojo was always going to tank when people found out it was fake, so Mattson needed a way to scam himself into actual wealth. At the end of the story, we think he's successful because he wins in the moment and achieves his plan. However, he actually cucks himself because he just ended up playing a $192 a share (33% premium above what he was originally going to pay) on an already overvalued company that he can't afford. Mattson is never recuperating his investment and he isn't the business mogul (like logan) that is capable of making Waystar + ATN appreciate in value. So he's basically fucked. The point of all these scenes is to inform the watcher that Mattson ends up losing too, because he too is not a serious person. He like Kendal, Roman and Shiv are too emotional. It fits in with the whole theme of the show. Everyone ends up losing. Succession as a story is a tragedy because nobody technically wins.
