Skarsgard was so great in this it actually just feels like this is his real self. it seems like there's no acting, that's how natural he felt in this role

Alexander Skarsgard is actually mimicking Elon's way of speaking.

Watching this after the finale you can see how Mattson was wincing at everything Shiv said, and realized she can’t be ceo.

Shiv’s unwillingness to “kiss the ring” of Menkin here in my opinion shut the door of the possibility of her becoming CEO. Watch Matson’s interactions with her in this scene. He tries to give her every chance to give her allegiance to Menkin. She stuck to her principles, and now all she’ll ever be is Tom’s meat puppet.

I don't think it mattered. She was a tool for Matsson, he was never going to pick her.

tom's meat puppet, lol. can't think of a more degrading way to describe her now that Tom's the boss, but it's both funny as hell and probably true

It was more than just that too. He mentioned her pregnancy and inexperience as a problem.
Not to mention to further show he’s similar to Logan he gets pissed about the magazine cover of Shiv puppeting him; just like Logan got mad at seeing Kendall on the cover as new CEO.

After watching the finale and watching this, it’s clear why Matsson was favored by Logan. Matsson went straight into threatening Mencken and talking to him like a child, like what Logan did to the previous president. Kendall just comes off as desperate, not threatening. He’s not a killer!

Am I just dense? Because I didn't pick up the threat being made by Matsson.

@@ghlibisk67At around 1:52 Matsson says that everyone has GoJo social media and then says, "There's a very small number of people who are thought leaders... so you might want to hear our take." In other words, if Mencken isn't cooperative, Matsson will turn social media against him.

The face Shiv makes after offering "anarcho-capitalist parmigiana," like she hopes that landed well but is very unsure. Or maybe she remembers that parmigiana doesn't necessarily come with pasta. One of the moments that most reminded of The Thick of It.

Mattson and Mecken to Shiv on this scene:
"Girl, you need to get a life and touch some grass. There's no way we're gonna choose a pregnant woman to be a CEO."

  • @joshuaizly5502
    @joshuaizly5502 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

Shiv started so smooth until they joined Mattson and then she just refused to play when either man throw the ball towards her.
    "Anarcho Capitalist Parmesan"
"My dad was about money and gossip"
    "I'm flexible"
"My feelings are irrelevant" it sounds the same way she's used to speak to Roman and Kendall.
Shiv has to charm both Mattson and Mencken but instead she chooses to compete with them just to be heard.

as much as I hate Shiv, at least she stuck to her principles here. Mencken called her father a nazi and Shiv denied it, then Mattson asked Shiv to say that she likes Mencken and she refused.

She stuck to her principles, but she did choose to support a facist canidate like Mencken the moment it helped her, dont think she was thinking about ethics here.

As a satire, this is one of my favorite scenes in the show for me. Mattson very clearly lays out the interests of big tech to collaborate with the far-right. He was smart to pitch to Mencken with “growing cultural influence.” He knows that “news for angry old people” was unsustainable, and he was even smarter to subtlely threaten him by flexing his power as a social media giant.
While the newer generations stare with bewilderment at the ideologically-driven lies and deception of a toxic company like FOX News, they’re oblivious to how the apps they use everyday shapes their views just as much as legacy media. I’m not proud to admit that I get most of my news from twitter, and I’ll also admit I have no idea how it works, and that’s scary.
Conservatives whine all the time about their “freedom of speech” is being revoked for saying things that are blatanly hateful on social media platforms but will still defend the free market and tech moguls like Mattson or Musk who run those same companies.
What happens when figures like Mencken have something that big tech wants? Algorithms can be altered unknowingly to the public and suddenly certain thought leaders are propped up while others are silenced. We’re already seeing this on Twitter under the leadership of Elon Musk, as community guidelines for hate speech are not being enforced like they used to.
The users don’t control the conversation on social media; it’s at the whim of private owners who can make decisions that serve their own interests and spread ideas that could be catastrophic for everybody else.

As someone who would be branded as far rightist by the left, we defend Musk exactly because he made the promise of respecting freedom of speech as much as possible, unlike Zuck or others Tech moguls.
As long as he is respecting that, he will be respected by what you call "far right".
X, Twitter, Far right medias, Far left medias, Facebook, etc... They are all deceptive. None of them are better than the other.
Key is to listen to everyone, even those who you brand as "hateful" or "deceptive" or "corrupted" etc...
You take the sums of all their ideas as objectively as possible, then compare it to you personal life, and you should be good.
I became anti-woke or anti-mass-migration not because of X or any "far rightist" newspaper, my personal life in college and walking the streets of my city in France at night was enough to make my opinions.
